We are fresh off the inaugural Toughest Mudder and we loved it. Will Hicks ran Tougher, Toughest, and Tough over the weekend in Los Angeles, and only regrets running two of those. The first half of this episode is chock full of audio from the media on site. Tough Mudder, CBS Sports, and Obstacle Racing Media were the only companies with media representation on site this weekend. Among the people we’ll hear from are Will Dean, Nolan Kombol, Ryan Atkins, Stephanie Bishop, Chad Trammell, and a few surprises. After the on-site audio, Will has a phone call with Josh Cox where they reminisce about the five miles they spent together over the weekend. Matt and I listen to audio from his podcast and discuss what their answers mean for Tough Mudder and Toughest Mudder. Some of the topics we discuss are the new Team Relay category at WTM 2017, the four different kinds of bibs you’ll see at WTM this year, and how likely it is that someone will win the $50,000 bonus for a man reaching 110 miles or a woman reaching 100 miles. Episode 180 - Tough Mudder announced several changes to this year's team competition at World's Toughest Mudder. We got Nolan Kombol on the phone as quickly as we could. Nolan's been with Tough Mudder since July of 2010. His current title is Senior Director of Product, which means, he and his team are responsible for your on course experience and all of the obstacles that go with it. We go into the new changes and answer some questions including: What is the total payout for a winning team that crosses 100 miles? Legionnaire status: Is it laps or event days? Do two Tough Mudder Halves equal a Whole? The second half of the episode has us sit down with 2015 WTM male champ Chad Trammell to talk about last year's wild ride, what his plans are for this year, and some ideas he has that could make WTM much more interesting. Today's episode is sponsored by BoneFrog Challenge – ORM10 gets you $10 off all 2016 races. Rugged Maniac – $5 off when you use the code PODCAST. Mud Hero – Mud Hero events are some of the best in Canada. Code ORM16 saves $5 on all events.
I was very skeptical about The O-Run Team Challenge. Del Boykin told me what almost every race director tells me. That his race is going to kick my butt and will exhaust me. I was pleasantly surprised when 3 friends and I took on the event recently here in Georgia. The obstacles were as heavy/difficult/challenging as any I have come across. (yes, including a Spartan). Listen in as I talk to Del about his race and how he can replicate this awesome event in other places. Recently, Tough Mudder decided to open up The World's Toughest Mudder to all participants. They also announced more prize money, special awards, and support crews. You will hear from Nolan Kombol, Head of Course Design at TM as he answers the questions all of you want to know. I also thought it would be a good excuse to catch up with Amelia Boone. I had not spoken with Amelia in a few months and I thought I would catch up with how her year is going and learn her thoughts on this year's WTM changes. ...all that and a very special OCR athlete that has never given an interview anywhere before.
