Pieter Tritton, also known as ‘Posh Pete', is an ex-drug trafficker who has spent almost a decade in the most dangerous prisons in South America. He isn't what you'd imagine when you think of a typical drug dealer though; Pieter grew up in the middle-class area of Gloucestershire in the UK and studied Archaeology at Cardiff University. It was at University that his drug dealing started to take off. He soon became involved in international drug trafficking and was making hundreds of thousands of pounds from the ‘business', selling high quality cocaine in enormous amounts. He was an inconspicuous drug kingpin, until he was arrested in Ecuador in 2005 and entered the hardcore world of South American prisons. He was released in 2015 and has vowed to never return to a life of crime. In this episode, we discuss his experience behind bars, witnessing multiple murders in prison, and fighting to survive amongst violent prison gang warfare.
Charlie “The Spaniard” Brenneman is a former junior high Spanish teacher, UFC fighter, and reality show winner. He is a professional speaker, an author of two books, and the host of his own podcast show. In this episode he shares his story of leaving the classroom to become a professional MMA fighter.

For those that watched Eco-Challenge on Amazon Prime you will definitely be familiar with both Travis and his father Mark, the incredible duo exemplified what we know as the hero’s journey and a thirst for living fully. Travis is a professional athlete completing over 120 ultra endurance events in 17 countries, he is a speaker, author and coach. He is the author of The Ultra Mindset: An Endurance Champion's 8 Core Principles for Success in Business, Sports, and Life. He set a record for the 2013 Leadman series epic endurance event consisting of a combination of five trail running and mountain biking events held in Leadville, Colorado over the course of two months each summer, in a combined record time, of 36:20 covering 282.3 miles 10,200 feet up in the Rocky Mountains. I was watching the show, Eco-Challenge and heard the narrator Bear Grillz tell the audience of this Travis Macy guy…. Who decided not to participate with the goal of finishing in a top position, Instead he wanted to do the 500km (or 310 mile, 10 day race of travelling by foot, kayak, horse, swimmimg, mountain climbing and mountain biking with his father Mark a long standing endurance athlete himself who has early onset Alzheimer’s. In this episode we get into the details of maintaining a love for living fully, by doing. By having a respect and appreciation for the journey that is life not by hoping for a submissive world that will cater to our needs. I am going to quote my friend Ian Bigford who has been on the podcast before and will be back on soon, he sent me a quote from an Ancient Indian Parable… which I think aligns with the courage that both Travis and his Father exude in life: A man wants to walk across the land, but the land is covered in thorns. He has two options, one is to pave a road - to tame all of nature into his compliance. The other is to make sandals. In this episode we talk about your relationship with the difficult things in life… developing a love for living, meaning a love for the journey that has both darkness and light, we talk about how you think your way through challenge while your body is so depleted you cannot even feed yourself. Of course, we conclude with a discussion about Mark Macy, Travis’s dad, who again if you need a hit of inspiration to keep going, check out the eco-challenge on Amazon Prime and see the heroism that we discuss in this episode. Episode 70 is another interview with Travis Macy, a finisher of over 120 ultra endurance events in 17 countries. Travis is a speaker, author, coach, and professional endurance athlete. He is the author of The Ultra Mindset: An Endurance Champion's 8 Core Principles for Success in Business, Sports, and Life, which I previously interviewed him about. This time I am talking to him eco-challenge Fiji and how he and his team, Team Endure, fared. If you haven’t watched the World’s Toughest race on Prime yet, I urge you to get on over and watch it. I don’t normally binge watch series, but I did for this one! Can I ask you a favour; would you be able to go on over to Apple podcasts to rate, review and subscribe to the podcast? I don’t get paid to do this, I do it for the love of sharing great information but would greatly appreciate your reviews and support. It makes it all feel worthwhile! Ex Jewel Thief and Prisoner Larry Lawton interviews Raphael Rowe, host of Netflix World's Toughest Prisons. In episode #3 of Larry's Podcast series he hears Raphael Rowe's wrongful conviction prison story and his experience touring and filming some of the world's toughest prisons. They share behind bars experience and the road to redemption.
Imagine covering 671km (416 miles) in just over 5 days by trekking, biking, rafting, climbing, paddle boarding, swimming, rappelling, and crossing oceans by boat. Exhausted already? Me too. But that is what Team New Zeland did to win the World’s Toughest Race: Eco Challenge Fiji. Today, we are kicking off this series with one half of Team New Zeland, Nathan Fa’avae, and Sophie Hart. Not only are these two adventure racers tough as nails, but they have been on the top of their game for a long time, all the pressure was on their team to win. It was theirs to lose. We talk about their Eco Challenge Fiji experience, but then so much more. We cover the mom guilt Sophie experienced when she went from going out training whenever she liked, to suddenly needing to be there all the time for her two children. We talked about Nathan’s leadership skills, and why every member of any team is important, you never know who could be lifting another team member up when they need it most. If you enjoy being a part of a team, you love to learn from inspiring people, or you are just interested in hearing from genuine, kind people. This episode will speak to you. There is a reason Bear Grylls called Nathan the Michael Jordan of adventure racing, and you will see why after hearing these two world champions. The World’s Toughest Race was an annual event every year from 1995 to 2002, but then stopped (although none of the guests I interviewed are quite sure why). The 2019 Eco Challenge Fiji was the first one in 17 years. The amazon prime series, hosted by Bear Grylls is full of inspiration, heart, and toughness, and it has been a massive hit for good reason. Episode 102 is so much fun. I got to chat with Jeff and Hunter Leininger about adventure racing, the World’s Toughest Race Eco Challenge Fiji and their adventure racing company ARGeorgia. Jeff and Hunter Leininger are a father-son pair and they talk about how they each got their start in the sport together and separately. Jeff Leininger is a race director so I ask him to teach me some general stuff about adventure racing. He and Hunter share a lot of information that is super helpful for anybody who is curious about adventure racing. Jeff explains about USARA http://www.usara.com/ which is the United States Adventure Racing Association and ARC which is Adventure Racing Cooperative https://www.arcooperative.org/ which are two resources for people interested in Adventure Racing. Hunter Leininger holds 4 national records (so far) in adventure racing and he shares what those are and how he got them. Jeff and Hunter talk about what skills are needed or desired to get started in adventure racing. Jeff explains what “peanut butter” is in adventure racing and what people might underestimate in adventure racing. Jeff talks about navigation and how to learn that before you tackle adventure racing. Jeff shares what an extreme level of training was required before Eco-Challenge which could be different from smaller local races. We talk about strategy in adventure racing and what you might experience in a smaller local adventure racing. Jeff talks specifically about packing for an adventure race and “packing your fears” We talk about their World’s Toughest Race experience and what they are planning for the future. I ask a super specific question about the cold weather section on the tv coverage of World’s Toughest Race. They share a part of their story that was not on the show. I ask the very important question of is there a post race party after the World’s Toughest Race. Jeff and Hunter share the information about the races they put together in Florida and Georgia. You can find Jeff and Hunter and ARGeorgia at www.ARGeorgia.com or on instagram @ARGeorgia and you can find Hunter directly on instagram @hunterleininger

I spent Saturday binge-watching the World’s Toughest Race series on Amazon. It is a 650-kilometer adventure race consisting of sailing, paddleboarding, hiking through jungles, swimming through dangerously cold water and repelling down waterfalls — all done with little or no sleep — over the course of three days for the most elite professional teams and 11 days for the amateur teams. At the end, I was reminded of the words of Saint Paul: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith,” 2 Timothy 4:7. And it occurred to me that the World’s Toughest Race is an excellent allegory for life. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/suzanne-elizabeth-anderson/support
Susan has worked with a few adventure racers and if you haven't watched the show yet one of the aspects they didn't spend a lot of time on was nutrition. That said the part they did it was very clear the role that carbs played. Other topics covered: Why adventure racers need more muscle and fat on their bodies for the race. The mental part you NEED to complete a race like that. Towards the end we talk about how quickly the new mom recovered from her pregnancy to participate in the race.
Coree Woltering from Team Onyx and Samantha Gash from Team Aussie Rescue come on Survivor NSFW with Jonny Fairplay, Matt Bischoff, and Zack Hacker to kick off coverage of Amazon Prime's hot new reality competition series - World's Toughest Race: Eco Challenge Fiji. Coree and Samantha talk about how they got into adventure racing, their ultra running accomplishments, how the series compares to Survivor (given Sam's experience on Australian Survivor), and all the events of the first 2 episodes of World's Toughest Race. The toughest race in the world is the one you haven't trained for. For many of us, our lives are a rat race of hurry, anxiety, and the heavy weight of exhaustion. We're in a race we haven't trained for. And it's showing. But the Bible teaches us that it doesn't have to be that way. God wants to lift the weight by helping us gain strength and vision so that we can do what we were made for: run free! So, how about you? How will you prepare to run? Who will run with you? And who is cheering you on?
I'm stoked to have Courtney Home on the show today. She’s one of my fellow racers on the World's Toughest Race, and we dive into her journey as well as some of the untold stories she had on the race. Courtney is one of the most spirited, high-vibe people I’ve ever met in my entire life. When we were out there racing, I saw how she was so independent and positive. She actually provided a lot of light and energy to everybody else around her because she has protected and fostered so much light for herself. Today, she shares her stories of positivity and vulnerability, as well as moments that tested her character during the race. I hope you embrace Courtney’s journey, especially if you’re looking for some spark of positivity in your life! In this episode, you will hear: Courtney's background and having zero adventure racing experience Signing the scariest contract ever Overcoming self-doubt and just doing it! Shifting her mindset from winning the race to living and learning Drawing strength from people around you as much as they draw strength from you Why Courtney never wants to see bamboos ever again The power of embracing your lowest moment and just letting it wash over you Suffering from an eating disorder and honoring her vulnerability We all have the power to change our life! Join the adventure! John Kelly holds a spot in the Guinness World Book of Records, is a Chief Technology Officer, and is the 15th person to finish the Barkley Marathons. John shares stories on how he trained for the Montane Spine Race, surviving the Barkley, and how he still has time for family at the end of the day. Who is John Kelly? John Kelly is an ultrarunning data scientist, father of three with a former triathlon habit. He is the Chief Technology Officer of Envelop Risk, and to support his ability to do that day job with a clear mind he runs, bikes, and hikes. He also used to be a pretty serious water skier and World of Warcraft player.John has been running most of his life. In high school he was a good, but not a great runner. During college and grad school, John essentially took a full decade off from the sport. After grad school, he rediscovered his love of the mountains on a road trip out west that included hiking the John Muir Trail with his incredible wife Jessi.John ended up running the 2013 Marine Corps Marathon, and it was an absolute disaster. It was his first race in 10 years, his longest race by 20 miles, and his training had been horribly insufficient. Of course, immediately after that, John said, “I think I can do better” and signed up for another.John has always been a math and computer person who enjoys finding patterns and automating complex processes. An opportunity at a startup, where there was less bureaucracy and John would have more influence over research and applications, was something he couldn’t walk away from. In the summer of 2015, around the same time that he got serious about ultrarunning and triathlons, as he made the jump to become the Director of Analytics at QxBranch, a data analytics startup in downtown DC. That startup partnered with a company in the UK to create another startup, Envelop Risk, that could better deliver that product to customers and insurance partners.Highlights[3:30] Setting a world record[7:30] The appeal of data science[9:55] Returning to running[15:44] Thriving at the Barkley Marathons [22:30] How ultra resilience transfers to everyday life[30:06] The biggest mistakes people make with marathons[36:15] John’s training regimen[43:50] Sleep optimization for performance endurance[49:45] Use data in the training[55:38] Maintaining work-life balanceResourcesThe Barkley Marathons DocumentaryBarkley MarathonsUpper Kelly CampDavid Roche -Training For Busy AthletesGarmin Forerunner 945The BibleSponsorsCAR.O.LYou don’t have time for that 45 minute jog. This week I welcome Freddie Bennett. A man who has seen his fair share of hardships that nearly pushed him over the edge and take his life. Through these struggles and watching his father pass away before his eyes, Freddie made the decision that something needed to change...and change it did. Through hard work and dedication Freddie began to live a more positive lifestyle that has led him to run the world's toughest footrace (200 miles through the Sahara desert), Ultramarathons, Ironman competitions and more! This is a story you DO NOT want to miss.
In all sports there are iconic characters and iconic events. In the world of ultra-running, Runner’s World compiled a list of the ‘hardest races in the world’. One of them was the Barkley Marathons and my guest today is the legendary figure who organised Barkley, and many other unique events. He is such an icon that he even has a pseudonym, “Lazarus Lake” (his real name is Gary Cantrell). If you haven’t yet heard of the Barkley Marathons then here are some facts that might get your attention. The race has only ever been completed 18 times. There are minimal directions. Competitors have 60 hours to complete 5 laps of approximately 20 miles. Each laps alternates direction. None of this stops hundreds of hopefuls submitting their entrance essay to Laz every year in the hope that he will pick them to be one of the lucky 40 competitors to try their hand at the event known to disciples as “the race that eats it’s young”. It took me 6 months to get Laz onto the show so I hope that you agree it was worth the wait! When getting an entry is almost as hard as the event itself Who is “Big”? Books with quirky titles and why book pages prove you have completed the full course The inspiration behind the first Barkley Marathons Problem solving and why most of the Barkley finishers have a PhD What makes the Barkley Marathons so tough The Great Virtual Race across Tennessee - The longest virtual event of lockdown? You can find a great documentary about the Barkley Marathons on Netflix Here you can find a link to the article about the Strolling Jim event and Laz’s formula for calculating gender differences for prize money Oustide magazine referred to Laz as a “sadist creature”. Boundary-pushing big wall climber, Sasha DiGiulian, holds multiple first ascents and more than 30 female firsts for some of the world’s most revered and difficult big wall climbs. In this episode, Rob Pope chats to Sasha about her journey from six-year-old indoor climber to world-renowned pro and free soloist - touching on her historic ascent of the Rocky Mountains Trilogy as the first woman (and only second person ever) to complete the trio of climbs in one season. From unexpectedly having to free solo one of her earliest big wall first-ascents as the holds crumbled away in her hands 1,000ft up without any protection, to experiencing the exhilaration of climbing in a flow state whilst conquering the 5.14-grade Rocky Mountains Trilogy in 2018, Sasha chats about the risks and rewards that come with climbing when the ground is way beneath her feet. She describes the moment she thought she was paralysed, and reveals the method she sometimes uses when she’s feeling scared of falling mid-climb by discussing her relationship with fear.“Even after 20 years of climbing, I don’t think fear ever goes away.” Listen to all episodes and discover more about How to Be Superhuman at http://redbull.com/superhuman

Prof Wolfgang Dietrich holds the UNESCO Chair of Peace Studies at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. There he runs the MA in Peace Studies, a programme that combines academic rigour with personal reflection and tough and transformative experiential learning. In this interview, we speak about his experiences in Central America as an evaluator of NGO programmes, and how this led him to believe that the trainer of peace workers needed to be changed fundamentally. We speak about the design of the MA, and about the notion of Transrational Peace, Prof Dietrich's theoretical approach that informs his pedagogy and that of a large network of partners worldwide. Finally, we speak about pedagogical innovation in large universities, the need for transdisciplinarity and opportunities to make education as a whole more peaceful. If you want to get more ideas for how to implement these ideas into your educational practice, Prof Dietrich has published a trilogy of books about Transrational Peace, including a volume on breath-oriented, voice-oriented and movement-oriented approaches to training peace workers, that can inspire other educators as well.If you have any comments or questions, I'd be happy to hear from you. What is it like to participate in the world’s toughest ski race? Would you be up for the challenge? Listen in as I tell you all about it and take you through the journey! Who knows? The Arctic Circle Race just might be the next extreme adventure you’re looking for! Visit https://www.bodyshotperformance.com/podcasts-blog for the complete show notes of every podcast episode. Topics Discussed in this Episode: The Arctic Circle Race and why we did it How we prepared for the race My thoughts on the journey What the experience was like Key Takeaways: Both mental and physical endurance are very much needed to take on this kind of challenge. Incredibly powerful things happen when you push yourself into your discomfort zone. You don’t have to go as big as we’ve gone with The Arctic Circle Race, it might be learning an instrument, going online dating, learning a new language, or playing a sport. Taking on a challenge and achieving something is good for your confidence and your resilience. You get a bit more comfortable in very uncomfortable situations. You feel a little more comfortable with unpredictability, and life is unpredictable. A key part of resilience is not your toughness. It’s not what you can endure. It’s more around if you have the tools to cope with the various things that life throws at you and the emotional bandwidth to deal with them. Action Steps: If you are doing a fundraising event, set a really big target and don’t be afraid to ask people to support you. Do something that takes you into your discomfort zone. Have a think about what that thing might be and make sure it’s the appropriate level of challenge at the appropriate time. Leanne said: “[The Arctic Circle Race] is absolutely brutal. It’s the most extraordinary challenge. It’s more like the world’s toughest herring boning and walking race with bits of skiing.” “If you feel that life is pretty smooth and you want to test yourself in some way, then start to look at what you can do. Kick some ideas around.” Thanks for listening! If you want to ask any questions about this, give any feedback, or perhaps kick out some suggestions for future events that we could do or that you’re thinking of doing, we’d love to hear from you! They also have lists of verified rides and riders that have completed a challenge on the website. They have rides and routes setup or you can create your own ride that will take you wherever you want to ride. There are small fees to enter a certified challenge and everything needs to be verified before you make the website list. You'll have to keep gas receipts with times and locations and have certain documents signed for later verification. The Iron Butt Association has about 60,000+ members and is based in the United States, however, they have thousands of members throughout the globe! If you are considering an Iron Butt Challenge on a Harley then you absolutely must listen in to this podcast episode. Rob and Jonathan will give you inside details about doing a challenge. They share important tips, tricks, and insights on what it takes to complete a challenge. They share things you should do and should not do. They share in-depth information about what they learned and what they would do differently on their next Iron Butt Challenge on a Harley. A great resource that was mentioned that many Iron Butt Challenge riders use is SpotWalla to track their travels. SpotWalla is a secure personal location manager that supports a wide range of satellite- and cell-based tracking technologies. It puts you in control of your personal, private location data so you have complete control of your degree of exposure. Irish woman, Olive McGloin, became the first woman in the world to walk the Pacific Crest Trail, from the borders of Mexico to Canada and back again, non-stop in 2014. (It’s the same 2,650-mile route (one way) that Reese Witherspoon’s character walks some 1,000 miles of in the film Wild.) She encountered deadly snakes, mountain lions, severe storms and extreme heat on her journey. And she didn't stop there. Since her successful YoYo of the PCT, Olive has taken on a number of equally impressive challenges.

We are halfway through the Toughest Mudder season, with four of the eight Toughest and World's Toughest events completed. In today's episode, we talk about each Toughest Mudder so far this year. We compare each Toughest with each other and get a preliminary answer to the question: "Which Toughest is the toughest Toughest?". We also talk with a podium finisher from each of the three most recent Toughest Mudder races. Tom Tweddell finished second at Toughest Mudder UK. He ran 45 miles in 7:23, one minute behind the first place Tristan Steed. Lachlan Dansie finished first at Toughest Mudder Australia. He ran 45 miles in 8:18. Lachlan has won the Australia-based 24 hour Enduro Race four years running. Kristopher Mendoza finished second at Toughest Mudder Midwest. He ran 50 miles in 8:06, 12 minutes behind the first place Ryan Atkins. 12 minutes is the closest anyone has come to catching Atkins at a Toughest Mudder. This is a loooong episode. Between 20 and 33% of the world's plant species are currently at risk of global extinction. That's the estimation of recently published studies. So how much will climate change impact on the variety, availability and price of the food on our plates? Botanist James Wong investigates the links between global warming and the rate at which crops are able to adapt and evolve to rapidly changing conditions. Speaking to farmers, plant breeders and scientists at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and elsewhere he hears about the plant world's likely 'winners' and 'losers'. Having deeper roots and more efficient water-use strategies is a clear bonus, and one that's being addressed by British plant scientists who are developing more drought-resistant wheat varieties by breeding them with ancient antecedents of one of the world's most important crops. That's in the UK, but elsewhere around the world, James Wong learns that many plants are facing extinction before they have been recognised as being at risk, and perhaps in some cases even before they have been discovered. Producer: Mark Smalley.

Quran Talk - God Alone, Quran Alone, Submission = True Islam
[16:78] GOD brought you out of your mothers' bellies knowing nothing, and He gave you the hearing, the eyesight, and the brains, that you may be appreciative. [31:14] We enjoined the human being to honor his parents. His mother bore him, and the load got heavier and heavier. It takes two years (of intensive care) until weaning. You shall be appreciative of Me, and of your parents. To Me is the ultimate destiny. [17:23] Your Lord has decreed that you shall not worship except Him, and your parents shall be honored. As long as one or both of them live, you shall never say to them, "Uff" (the slightest gesture of annoyance), nor shall you shout at them; you shall treat them amicably. [46:15] We enjoined the human being to honor his parents. His mother bore him arduously, gave birth to him arduously, and took intimate care of him for thirty months. When he reaches maturity, and reaches the age of forty, he should say, "My Lord, direct me to appreciate the blessings You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do the righteous works that please You. Let my children be righteous as well. I have repented to You; I am a submitter."
Episode 109 - As one of a handful of Barkley Ultramarathon finishers in the world, ever, Nickademus Hollon entered WTM with tons of respect from the OCR community. Many were considering him a contendor to win it all. In Episode 107, we had a nice chat where he talked about how his massive ultramarathon training experience could really benefit him in a race like this. He ended up with only his 2nd ever DNF. We talk to him and find out what happened. Amelia Boone missed the Spartan World Championships and the OCR World Championships as she chose to have major surgery about 3 months ago.
