Tepper Sports & Entertainment has restructured the Charlotte FC front office, and President Joe LaBue is out. Is a slump in ticket sales to blame? Who is now the club's fan-facing spokesman? Patrick Agyemang is still without a new contract. Will Dean play Pat and Karol Swiderski together in 2025?
The October Book of the Month is THE CHAMBER, written by Will Dean. Six experienced saturation divers are locked inside a hyperbaric chamber. Calm and professional, they know that rapid decompression would be fatal and so they work in shifts, breathing helium, and surviving in hot, close quarters. Then one of them is found dead in his bunk. Will Dean grew up in the East Midlands of the United Kingdom. After studying law at the London School of Economics and working in London, he settled in rural Sweden where he built a wooden house in a vast forest, and it's from this base that he compulsively reads and writes. His debut novel, DARK PINES, was selected for Zoe Ball's book club on ITV, shortlisted for the National Book Award (UK), The Guardian's Not the Booker prize, and was named a Telegraph book of the year. He is also the author of THE LAST ONE, FIRST BORN, THE LAST THING TO BURN, which was shortlisted for the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year, and THE CHAMBER. They're BACK!!After a sporadic but entertaining first season, Will Carver and SJ Watson return for more talk about books and the literary world, while sampling a few drinks along the way. In this first episode of the new season, they discuss VOICE. What is a writing voice? Who are the most distinctive writers? What does it mean to have a voice? And does it affect success?Current reads include, Ring, The Puppet Master and Christ on a Bike, and in the news they discuss AI again – this time with regard to apps that condense novels into a more 'manageable' size – and the fact that Will Dean has a new jacket...There's also a new guest spot for Debbie from Dudley as Sandra, sadly, makes way for a new super-fan. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Hey there, bookish friends! We're back with another episode of Stories in Two after a short break, and boy, do we have a lot to catch up on.
Back in the day Spartan Stadium races were our favorite to both run and cover as media. We remember seeing a large man in a clown mask doing well at most of the events that we went to. Over more recent years Kevin Gregory/Bubbles the Clowne has grown to be even more of a threat in the hybrid racing scene! Kevin has also become a friend of the show, as well as Mike's coach for about a year. Mike vowed that his first hybrid fitness race would be at his gym Underdog Fitness in Wallingford, CT! It took a while to get a date to fit in the schedule but Katelyn and Mike took it on despite Mike being pretty nervous (I am not a strong man) and having back issues (likely a weak core), and Katelyn waking up sick on Friday. You'll hear from David Rundio, Kristine Pavelchak, Robert Landman, Ashley Harten, Lauren Carlson, Melinda Noel, Michael Racine, Greg Viggiano, Katelyn Ritter, ?, Heather Dall'Aste, Elizabeth Almansa, Kelly Sullivan, Taylor Febus, Mike Tubiak, Lisa Wawrzynowski, Kiefer Callisto, Amber Tait, Alexander Golik, Jess Gregory, Zack Tait, and Kevin Gregory! 0:00 – 4:54 – Intro 5:54 – 19:53 – Quick News 19:53 – 21:03 – Content Preface 21:03 - 1:23:08 - Underdog Fitness Interviews 1:23:08 - End – Outro Next episode is hopefully going to cover Obstacle Wonderland's Boogie 3 and 6 hour event in New York! ____ News Stories: Get Your Ass To 2024 New England OCR Expo on April 20th (use code "obstacles" for $5 off) Spartan Brought Back Prize Money to Remaining 2024 USNS Races 20 Page Recipe Bundle from Fittest Foodie When You Subscribe to VJ Newsletter Ida Mathilde Steensgaard Partnered with Team LSKD Spartan Post Pandemic Finishers According to ORM OCR Numbers According to OCR Buddy OCR World Series Now Features Cuba Savage Race Teamed Up with GORUCK for Jerry Carry Obstacle Race Ready Obstacle's New Obstacle WOCRF Enters the Confusion of OCR Leadership Ryan Brizzolara Engaged Hopstacle Run Podiums Spartan San Jose Beast Podiums Spartan San Jose Ultra Podiums Spartan San Jose Super Podiums Savage Race Gainesville Podiums Spartan Charlotte Super Podiums Spartan Charlotte Sprint Podiums Los Angeles Tough Mudder Infinity Podiums Underdog Fitness Deka Mile Podiums Happiness Goal Secret Link Carpenter Prank Secret Link Halloween Decoration Secret Link Horse Cyclist Secret Link Fire Sprinkler Secret Link ____ Related Episodes: 74. Diversity & short story anthologies (part 3): Authors Vaseem Khan & Ivy Ngeow tell We'd Like A Word hosts Paul Waters & Stevyn Colgan how they edited their recently published short story anthologies. Vaseem is co-editor (With Maxim Jakubowski) of The Perfect Crime: 22 Crime Stories from Diverse Cultures Around the World, published by Harper Collins. Ivy is editor of Asian Anthology: New Writing Volume 1, published by Leopard Print. We talk about getting diverse voices published, about cultural appropriation & avoiding "rule by the mob", how they choose who to include, what to do if you want to get your own story into an anthology, what editors love and what they hate, and we hear excerpts of some of the stories read by their authors. These two short story anthologies take different approaches - open call v selected authors, big names v unknowns, genre framework v very loose theme. And the editors take different approaches on how they edit. For instance, if we do not generally put the word spaghetti in italics, why should we treat mee mamak any differently? Discuss... Lots of other authors/publishers get a mention too - Dotun Adebayo and his XPress, Hachette, Will Dean, Neil Jordan, EP Chiew, Ewan Lawrie, Tess Gerritsen, Jabba the Hut creator John Coppinger, SA Cosby, Walter Mosley, and more. We recommend both The Perfect Crime and Asian Anthology, but their editors are also authors in their own right with books out recently. Diversity & short story anthologies (part 2): Authors Vaseem Khan & Ivy Ngeow tell We'd Like A Word hosts Paul Waters & Stevyn Colgan how they edited their recently published short story anthologies. Discuss... Will Dean grew up in the East Midlands of the United Kingdom and lived in nine villages before the age of eighteen. After studying law at the London School of Economics and working in London, he settled in rural Sweden where he built a wooden house in a boggy clearing at the center of a vast elk forest, and it's from this base that he compulsively reads and writes. His debut novel, Dark Pines, was selected for Zoe Ball's book club on ITV, shortlisted for the National Book Awards (UK), The Guardian's Not the Booker prize, and was named a Telegraph book of the year. From the acclaimed author of The Last Thing to Burn, a psychological thriller about the dark secrets that emerge when a woman's twin sister is murdered, with his signature “intense, gripping, taut, terrifying, moving, and brilliant” (Lisa Jewell, #1 New York Times bestselling author) prose. Sisters. Soulmates. Strangers. Molly Raven lives a quiet, structured life in London, finding comfort in security and routine. Her identical twin Katie, living in New York, is the exact opposite: outgoing, spontaneous, and adventurous. But when Molly hears that Katie has died, possibly murdered, she is thrown into unfamiliar territory. As terrifying as it is, she knows she must travel across the ocean and find out what happened. But as she tracks her twin's final movements, cracks begin to emerge, and she slowly realizes her sister was not who she thought she was and there's a dangerous web of deceit surrounding the two of them.

Adam Croft is joined by author and former police commander for Brighton and Hove, Graham Bartlett, on this week's episode of Partners in Crime. The pair discuss Graham's debut novel Bad For Good, real police procedure versus dramatisation for books and television, and Graham gives us a frightening insight into the effects of real-life police funding cuts. We also hear about the journey from fighting crime for real, to inventing fictional crime stories, while Adam takes us through a CrimeReads article looking at crime novels with a strong sense of place and inimitable atmosphere. ~ Moriarty ~ RECOMMENDATIONS The Shadow Friend by Alex North https://bit.ly/ShadFriend The Last Thing to Burn by Will Dean https://bit.ly/willdean Bad For Good by Graham Bartlett (Pre-order) https://bit.ly/bad4good June's Patreon FREE book of the month from Kobo is Where The Bodies Are Buried by A.S French. https://bit.ly/ASFrench To get this and a different one every month for FREE, become a patron here: patreon.com/partnersincrimepodcast Or just buy it here Buy Partners In Crime merchandise here https://www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/52592091 Buy a 'Partners In Time' clock by clicking below! https://www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/52592683 Don't forget your exclusive Partners in Crime discounts through Kobo. Spartan sent out a press release on Christmas Eve announcing they have acquired an option to purchase the majority of Tough Mudder's international operations. The press release is below. As of December 26th, there has been no actual transaction between Tough Mudder and Spartan Race. We reached out to Spartan and Tough Mudder for more information on this possible transaction. Tough Mudder was unavailable for comment. Joe De Sena joined us to talk about how the option purchase came to be and how the relationship between himself and Will Dean, the co-founder of Tough Mudder has changed over the years. Will Spartan buy Tough Mudder? Would that be good or bad for Obstacle Course Racing? Let us know what you think in a review on Apple Podcasts. --- Spartan Race announced the acquisition of an exclusive option to acquire Tough Mudder's UK, Canadian, and German events today, as the first step in an effort to bring together a complete merger of the two obstacle course race leaders. Tough Mudder events in those countries would continue to be operated by the same team and under the same brand, to be a part of the larger Spartan family of brands and events. Tough Mudder associates and participants in the UK, Germany and Canada will be able to continue on with their Tough Mudder adventure. “This is a goal we've had for some time,” said Joe De Sena, Spartan founder & CEO. “Tough Mudder UK, Canada & Germany bring a unique experience and putting the success of the two together strengthens our global mission of getting 100 million people off the couch.” Under Spartan ownership, Tough Mudder UK, Canada and Germany races and events would focus on teamwork-based non-competitive festival events, leaving the competition to the Spartan side of the business. “I look forward to creating a lasting partnership with Will and Guy as we seek to complete the merger,” De Sena said. “I'm excited about the prospect of what we can do together, as one team." Spartan will continue to work with Tough Mudder's founders, Will Dean and Guy Livingstone, in efforts to complete the acquisition and renewal of Tough Mudder's US-based events and operations in the coming days. --- Welcome to The OCR Report Podcast! We are the only podcast to focus exclusively on the Elite SPORT side of Obstacle Course Racing. Each week we talk about who won the latest race, who lost, and what that means for next week's race. --- The OCR Report Podcast is hosted by Will Hicks, the host of World's Toughest Podcast, and presented by The OCR Report, home of Overcome and Run with Heather Bode, Obstacle Running Adventures with Mike Stefano and Katelyn Ritter, and OCR Talk with Jason Dupree and Anna Landry. --- What do you think of The OCR Report Podcast?
