Last week, the NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory released its First Look images, including stunning views of the Trifid and Lagoon nebulae, an astounding Cosmic Treasure Chest of stars and galaxies, and a "swarm" of newly discovered asteroids. Captured in a mere ten hours of observing time, this preview gave us a taste of what is to come for the groundbreaking observatory. As the press release states, "Rubin's innovative 8.4-meter telescope has the largest digital camera ever built, which feeds a powerful data processing system. Later in 2025, Rubin will begin its primary mission, the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), in which it will ceaselessly scan the sky nightly for 10 years to precisely capture every visible change." Join SETI Institute communications specialist Beth Johnson and CEO of the LSST Discovery Alliance Beth Willman in a special SETI Live event, talking about these First Look images, the future of the LSST mission, and what all the new data could mean for astrobiology and planetary defense. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio discussing who the top-30 most important Trojans are heading into the 2025 college football season. The USCFootball.com staff was polled and we are revealing the results one by one, starting with defensive back Prophet Brown coming in at No. 30. Please note, considerations for rankings take in a wide range of factors including depth, 2024 stats, overall talent, departures from last season, projected development and expectations. But the most important factor for placement on the list was if this player was lost, how detrimental would it be to the team and the overall success of the season. The crew also talks about how the Trojans landed a Fourth of July commitment from four-star 2026 four-star DeSoto (Texas) wide receiver Ethan "Boobie" Feaster, who chose USC over Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M. Feaster is the 31st overall commitment for USC's No. 1 recruiting class and the fifth wide receiver. CLICK HERE for 30% OFF an annual VIP membership to USCFootball.com! On this week's show, the Edinburgh Filmhouse is back, bay-bee! Peter, Jamie and Anahit offer their thoughts and well-wishes after each visiting it on opening weekend. If you've ever wanted to hear us talk about legroom and patina, you're in luck. Film-wise, we review Pavements, Alex Ross Perry's multi-stranded doc/biopic/musical of Peter's favourite 90s slacker indie band, and 28 Years Later, Danny Boyle's return to the land of iPhone cameras, violent zombies and haunting depictions of faux-50s provincialism (they're calling it 'The UK', etc etc). More on dividend growth investing -> Join our market newsletter! The argument has long been made that venturing beyond America's borders will offer investors higher yields. Many foreign companies do pay attractive dividends, but they lack consistency and predictable growth—factors that have kept us from investing overseas. But in this episode, we break the mold and head to the vineyards of France. Greg explores the under-the-radar story of Rémy Cointreau ($REMYY), the cognac maker behind the iconic Rémy Martin brand. What makes this story remarkable isn't just the 3% dividend yield or the potential for earnings to normalize. It's the value hiding in plain sight: aging inventory that becomes more valuable with time. With a wide moat and one of the most unique inventory structures we've seen, Rémy stands out as a compelling value play with rare downside protection. Markets are mostly efficient—but every now and then, a story slips through the cracks. Space is rapidly becoming a critical domain for so much of 21st-century living. Banking, transport across the sea and land, agriculture, and dozens of other things we take for granted all depend on satellites, and tracking them to avoid collisions. Nick Hague is a NASA astronaut and the first U.S. Space Force Guardian to launch to the International Space Station in that role, and we invited him to talk to us about the Space Force, living on the ISS, his frightening abort on a Soyuz rocket in 2018, how the Space Force tracks orbital objects, and much more. He's a very accomplished guy who makes it all sound routine—and we suspect, for him, it is. Join us for this very special interview.
