Director Rashaad Ernesto Green discusses his new film, Premature, with fellow director Dawn Wilkinson. Set in a hot summer in Harlem, Green's film tells the story of 17-year-old poet Ayanna who is drawn into a relationship with Isaiah, a young music producer who moves to the city just as Ayanna is about to leave for college. Zora Howard is a juggernaut. She stars in “Premature” and co-wrote the script with director Rashaad Ernesto Green. Her performance has an assured authenticity and a new brand of quiet desperation that is remarkable for a first feature. She’s been an award-winning creator for years though. Plays, poems, spoken word performances. Her play “Stew” just closed off-broadway to great acclaim. I gush about it and ask where her love of words began, and which of these various paths of creation she’s anxious to continue down. She talks about the necessary step of taking off the writer’s hat in order to perform in the present moment, and much more.

Thin Lizzie Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) investigate a series of murders at a local B&B that also happens to be Lizzie Borden’s old home. When a local man, Len (guest star Jared Gertner), tells them he saw a little girl around the B&B around the time of the murders, the brothers realize Amara (guest star Yasmeene Ball) may be responsible. Rashaad Ernesto Green directed the episode written by Nancy Won (#1105). Our Little World Castiel (Misha Collins) seeks out Metatron’s (guest star Curtis Armstrong) help to stop the Darkness. However, Metatron is pretty happy with his new life as a freelance videographer for the local news and isn’t inclined to help the Winchesters (Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles) or Castiel. Meanwhile, Crowley (Mark Sheppard) is losing his hold on Amara. John Showalter directed the episode written by Robert Berens (#1106).
Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Castiel (Misha Collins) follow up on a lead about the Mark of Cain. Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Rowena (guest star Ruth Connell) meet. Rashaad Ernesto Green directed this episode written by Andrew Dabb (#1017).
New indie filmmaker Rashaad Ernesto Green talks about his debut feature film, “Gun Hill Road.” Rashaad received a Spike Lee Fellowship in 2009 and was named one of indie WIRE’s “Ten Exciting New Voices in Black Cinema.” In 2010, he made Filmmaker magazine’s list of “25 New Faces of Independent Film.” Actor Esai Morales, who plays a key role in "Gun Hill Road," also joined this spirited discussion. “Gun Hill Road” is Green’s first feature film. It’s a gritty and heart-wrenching movie with fearless performances by Morales, Judy Reyes, and newcomer Harmony Santana, who play a Latino mother, father and teenage youngster struggling to overcome estrangement, transgender issues and environmental pressures.
