Autocoupler, based in Co. Kilkenny, was today announced as the winner of the 2025 AgTechUCD One to Watch Award at the completion of University College Dublin's (UCD) fourth AgTechUCD Agccelerator Programme at UCD Lyons Farm. The patented Autocoupler system allows a loader to attach to any agricultural implement, automatically coupling the loader's hydraulic circuit to the implement and then locking the implement in place with the loader's locking system. The novel Autocoupler system makes changing implements quick and easy, with no delays or time loss in comparison to existing manual and time-consuming systems. In addition, the Autocoupler system has safety advantages over conventional systems as the operator does not have to leave the cab of the machine when attaching or disconnecting any attachment or implement. The 12-week AgTechUCD Agccelerator Programme, tailored to address the needs and challenges facing AgTech and Agrifood start-ups, was focused on fast tracking the business development and leadership skills of participants and on providing them with the support and guidance needed to accelerate the growth and development of their start-ups. Gary Ryan, Director, AgTechUCD, said, "I would like to congratulate Autocoupler, on being named the overall winner of our fourth AgTechUCD Agccelerator Programme. This programme supports the commercial development of the participating start-ups by helping them to further develop their innovative solutions, enhance their marketplace visibility, attract new customers and investors and build new partnerships at home and further afield. I wish Autocoupler every success for the future as they continue their entrepreneurial journey." Seamus Kenny, founder, Autocoupler, said, "It is a great honour for me to accept the 2025 AgTechUCD One to Watch Award following the completion of the latest AgTechUCD Agccelerator Programme. Our next step is to target the agricultural and construction implement manufacture market with our novel system which allows loader operators to change an implement without leaving their seat, in 4 seconds, at the touch of a button." He added, "I would like to thank AgTechUCD and Enterprise Ireland for their ongoing support and also to thank Noreside Engineering Group, who have supported the physical engineering and prototype phase of developing the Autocoupler system, and acknowledge the financial support and advice received from the Kilkenny Local Enterprise Office." Thirty-four (34) start-ups have now completed the four AgTechUCD Agccelerator Programme delivered to date. Start-ups which have completed the programmes include; Cotter AgriTech, Moonsyst, MyGug, OptaHaul, Pitseal, Proveye, Silicate, and TrojanTrack. AgTechUCD, which is part of NovaUCD, is focused on promoting and accelerating the launch and scaling of start-ups and SMEs, in Ireland and internationally, with disruptive innovations in the agtech, agri-food and vettech sectors, as they build their innovative businesses into leading job creating companies on the global stage. AgTechUCD, funded through the Regional Enterprise Development Fund administered by Enterprise Ireland, supports founding entrepreneurs as they build their innovative businesses into leading enterprises, through the AgTechUCD Agccelerator Programme, and by providing access to incubation offices and labs and preferred access to on-farm testing for new products and services at UCD Lyons Farm. The AgTechUCD Agccelerator Programme included dedicated business development workshops and investor readiness training, mentoring from industry experts and business advisors, guest speakers and facilitated introductions to AgTechUCD's venture capital and business angel networks. Autocoupler was named winner of the Award following a final pitching event, held at the AgTechUCD Innovation Centre at UCD Lyons Farm in Co. Kildare. The members of the judging panel were; James Maloney, Enterprise Ireland, Faye Walsh Drouillard, WakeUp Capital and David Bow...

Earlier this year I attended the National Enterprise Awards in the Mansion House. This was the 24th year of the Local Enterprise Office initiative, which was won last year by Advanced Cosmetics. The Finalists competed for a prize fund of €50,000 and along with an overall National Enterprise of the Year winner there are categories for Best Start-Up, Best Export Business, an Innovation Award, a One-to-Watch Award, and a Sustainability Award. There is also an Outstanding Achievement award for a business that started with their Local Enterprise Office and has gone on to achieve international growth with the assistance of Enterprise Ireland. I caught up with Matt Conlon the Co-Founder and CEO of one of the winners Cytidel. Matt talks about his background, what Cytidel does, AI, winning at the Local Enterprise Awards and more. The landmark law, Title IX, paved the way for gender equity in higher education, notably increasing the participation of girls and women in athletics. As athletic programs are considered educational programs and activities, the penalty for non-compliance with Title IX is the loss of federal funding for an institution. While it has been 50 years since the introduction of Title IX and girls and women have made progress in equity, representation, and access to athletics, barriers continue to exist. Suzie Yorke is the Founder and CEO of Love Good Fats and is on a mission to bring healthy fats back. A mom, 11-time Ironman competitor, and yoga enthusiast, Suzie spent years adhering to a low-fat diet only to hit a wall in her mid-40s. After reading Nina Teicholz's best-seller, The Big Fat Surprise: Why Butter, Meat and Cheese Belong in a Healthy Diet, she immediately shifted to a high-fat, low-carb diet and felt better right away. While she loved the benefits of her new lifestyle, she found it challenging to find convenient good-fat snacks. Seeing a gap in the marketplace and a huge opportunity to help others through food, she developed Love Good Fats, a company that produces high-fat, low-carb, and low-sugar products. Today, she leads the brand's expansion as it quickly becomes one of the fastest-growing bar brands in North America. As a 30 year veteran of the CPG industry, Suzie has worked at high-profile companies such as Procter and Gamble, PepsiCo, Kraft, Heinz, and Weight Watchers. She has been recognized several times since launching Love Good Fats including the 2019 Mumpreneur Startup Award, 2019 WXN Top 100 BMO Entrepreneur Award, and 2020 RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Ones to Watch Award. In this episode… Starting and building a successful business is similar to athletics; you have to start by taking small, directed steps every day and improve as you go along. The most important thing? Just start! A good entrepreneur does not hang on to her idea for a long time, hoping to start a business someday in the future. Instead, you should start by taking small but well-directed steps towards building the kind of business you dream of. According to Suzie Yorke, you can start by creating samples of the products you envision, and then start production in small batches. This will help you launch your business on a path toward success. Suzie Yorke, the Founder and CEO of Love Good Fats, is Andrea Heuston's guest in this episode of the Lead Like A Woman Show where she talks about entrepreneurship and building a health-conscious food brand. Suzie also talks about her passion for athletics, her company's most popular products, and how her marketing background helped grow and scale the brand to over $100 million in three years. Stay tuned.

OnWriting presents three live-taped episodes of OnWriting celebrating Black History Month, presented by the WGAE Black Writers Salon. In each installment, two co-chairs of the WGAE Black Writers Salon—OnWriting’s own Geri Cole and Rashidi Hendrix—speak with Black screenwriters who have each written amazing films about Black icons in history. For the third & final installment of the series, Geri and Rashidi speak with Shaka King, co-writer and director of JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH. Shaka King is a screenwriter, director, and producer. His debut feature film, NEWLYWEEDS, premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and went on to win the Someone to Watch Award at the 2014 Independent Spirit Awards. He then cowrote and directed the short film MULIGNANS, with which he and cowriter Kristan Sprague competed in the USA Narrative Short Film Program at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, and for which they received the Nantucket Film Festival Screenwriting Award. He also co-wrote and directed the 2017 short film LAZERCISM, starring LaKeith Stanfield. On the small screen, King has written and directed episodes of several series, including HIGH MAINTENANCE, SHRILL, and RANDOM ACTS OF FLYNESS. His latest project is JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH – the powerful true story of Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya) – chairman of the Illinois Black Panther Party – and his betrayal by FBI informant William O'Neal (LaKeith Stanfield), which led to Hampton being executed in bed in a pre-dawn raid by Chicago law enforcement. Screenplay by Will Berson and Shaka King; Story by Will Berson, Shaka King, and Kenny Lucas and Keith Lucas (better known as the Lucas Brothers); Directed by Shaka King. The film will be available to stream on HBO Max until Sunday, March 14. -- Read shownotes, transcripts, and other member interviews: www.onwriting.org/ -- Follow the Guild on social media: Twitter: @OnWritingWGAE | @WGAEast Facebook: /WGAEast Instagram: @WGAEast
Episode 175: An entrepreneur since age 15, Alex Hodara tells us why he created Rocket Club to teach 9 to 14-year old students robotics, coding, and entrepreneurship. Guest Biography Entrepreneur Alex Hodara is the owner of Hodara Real Estate Group, an investment and development company he founded as a brokerage in 2008. Hodara launched the venture during his junior year at Boston University, hiring 15 of his classmates and launching what CNBC coined as “America’s first student run real estate brokerage.” Upon graduation with his B.B.A. from the distinguished Questrom School of Business, the success of Hodara’s firm landed him on Forbes’ “30 Under 30” and Bloomberg Businessweek’s “Best Young Entrepreneurs” lists. Hodara bought, renovated, and rented his first building in 2011, and today owns 200 multifamily units between Boston and Jersey City, just outside of Manhattan. In 2018 Hodara sponsored a STEM competition at Westfield High School in New Jersey. Inspired by the student’s brilliant engineering ideas and desire for elevated entrepreneurial support, he developed Rocket Club, an award winning, selffinanced robotics, coding and entrepreneurship club for kids. Hodara officially launched this passion project in February 2019 in Hoboken, New Jersey and word spread fast; with new locations popping up in Montclair, NJ, Upper West Side New York, Lower Manhattan, The British International School of NYC, and a free program in Newark, NJ during the first year of operation. Rocket Club went on to win the 2019 NJ Tech Council’s Innovation and Education Award, and STEM Leader to Watch Award. Each location was near capacity when COVID-19 hit the world, in March 2020. Hodara and the Rocket Club team quickly pivoted to a fully virtual model, providing free education to members through the fall of 2020. In the process, enrollment soared as parents sought out additional resources for their children who were distance learning. Rocket Club’s virtual curriculum is four semesters, and teaches members to develop their own businesses, learn Python coding, and build robotics. Each day, Rocket Club hosts Rocket Club Live, an interactive, educational game show and Q&A featuring a successful guest. Guests have included the founders of Netflix, Beyond Meat, Casper Mattresses, Harry’s Razors, Vonage, and Bobbi Brown Cosmetics to name a few. In this episode, you'll learn: We get a glimpse into the entrepreneur’s mind. Building a curriculum designed to expose kids to as much as possible to inspire and help them decide what they want to be when they’re older. How Alex is investing his own money to cultivate entrepreneurs of the future. Krista O'Malley has swum with Humpback whales, run marathons, and is known for her passion for the pursuit of excellence, enthusiasm, straight talk, and obsessive attention to detail. This is fitting for the CEO and Principal of cmnd+m, a Minnesota-based brand experience design firm, as all of these characteristics are necessary for best-in-class design and innovation in an industry tasked with perpetually creating what's next for brand-to-consumer experiences. The company was immediately successful with its inaugural project, not only bringing Google into the world of retail but also receiving an RDI International Design Award. Under Krista's leadership, the business experienced phenomenal growth, going from an unknown start-up to an internationally-operating company in less than 3 years. This amazing start resulted in Krista being recognized as a Midwest Finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Although a St. Paul native, Krista is a Badger at heart (go Bucky!) having graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Krista has recently started her own charitable foundation and is involved with several business organizations including WPO (Women's President's Organization) and the Committee of 200 (C200). Krista has received a Woman to Watch Award from the Mpls/St. Paul Business Journal, as well as multiple awards in other industries, including the MEDA CPP Partner of the Year Award. When she has free time, Krista enjoys professional-level shopping, paper arts, antiquing, and relaxing at the cabin. What You Will Learn: The path that led Krista from running a successful construction company to opening a brand experience design firm and making it thrive The “platinum rule” and how it applies to brand experience design What the grueling process of growing a business can be like and why it's so important to have friends and family to support you Finding respite amidst the chaos of being an entrepreneur Krista's love of creativity and how that applies to her life and work Krista's best advice and lessons for prospective female entrepreneurs Why you should surround yourself with people who challenge you and aren't afraid to disagree with you Resources: Email: komalley@cmndm.com Instagram: www.instagram.com/press_cmndm Personal: www.instagram.com/k11o/ Website: www.cmndm.com/ Maximizing Success Journal: Text JOURNAL7 to 44222 Female Entrepreneurs | Maintaining Your Sanity When Starting a Business, with Krista O'Malley Starting a Business While Running a Business As far as female entrepreneurs go, Krista O'Malley stands as one of the most impressive I've met. While running a construction company with her family, Krista caught the idea of opening an experience design firm and running it at the same time. Krista believed that having the infrastructure and momentum of already running a business makes it easier to start a new business. I don't agree, but I LOVE the tenacity required to do something like that. It wasn't easy. Krista shares deeply about how she was working seven days a week, 15 hours a day to get her experience design firm, cmnd+m, off the ground and up and running. Krista is a hard, hard worker, and she ran that business like an unstoppable engine. It wasn't until her voice of reason, her husband, told her that he was worried about her that she had an epiphany two days later in the parking lot of a gas station. What a place to learn that sometimes, even when running a business, you have to stop and let the engine cool off! Krista credits her success and remaining sanity to the generous support of her family. Because of them, she's always had a fallback plan, a couch to sleep on, and people to talk to. This is a lesson we can all follow better: use your support system whenever you need it. Creativity and Challenge We've all been taught from a young age to follow the golden rule: treat others how you would like to be treated. According to Krista, however, female entrepreneurs should do one better when working with clients and follow the platinum rule: treat others how THEY want to be treated. This is especially important in experience design and speaks to an intimate knowledge of your clients and what it is they want to get out of your services. Creativity fits in nicely here. Krista has always been a creative person, and the opportunity to flex those muscles and experiment with new, exciting ideas is an appeal that drew her to experience design in the first place. Oftentimes, that creativity can come out in the face of challenge. Surrounding yourself with people who challenge your ideas is a brilliant way to begin thinking in ways you wouldn't normally. Krista and I don't agree on everything, and yet our friendship continues to grow because of how much respect we have for each other. Lessons to Learn Krista has plenty of lessons to share to other female entrepreneurs from her path as a successful business owner. One of them relates back to avoiding burnout and staying on top of your game. Krista's best practices in this department include things like meditation, exercise, and taking a pontoon boat ride on a lake during a summer's day. She has found that activities like this help her to focus, relax, and center herself, making her more capable of tackling her many responsibilities. On the less relaxing parts of the journey, Krista reminds herself to have fun, be unafraid of difficult conversations, and remain a lifelong learner. The challenges of the day-to-day, paired with the challenges of being a successful entrepreneur, are just a little bit easier when you surround yourself with the right people and stick to being a student of life, for life.

Our Impact speaker this Easter Term will be Reni Eddo-Lodge, whose Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race recently won the 2018 Jhalak Prize for the best book by a British BAME writer. On 16 May 2018, Reni Eddo-Lodge will be in conversation with Heidi Safia Mirza. The event is free and open to the public. No registration required. The conversation will be chaired by Shakira Martin (President, National Union of Students). The event has been added to Facebook, if you'd like to invite friends. ‘I am not racist but...’ : An uncomfortable conversation with Reni Eddo-Lodge and Heidi Safia Mirza Never has there been a time when ‘Race’ and racism is so openly talked about and yet its roots so hidden and hard to tackle. The Windrush scandal becomes an administrative botch; Grenfell becomes a privatisation ‘disaster’. Decolonising the curriculum becomes an attack on freedom of speech; the xenophobia that drives Brexit is packaged as rational economic sovereignty. In this post-race, post equality moment defined by colour-blind sentiment (‘we are all the same’) and empty antiracist declarations (‘I am not a racist but’), Reni Eddo-lodge was moved to write her bestselling book – Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race. Fed up of having to explain her mere existence to soothe the conscience of those who want to feel better about the privileged positions they hold, Reni will continue this difficult conversation with the black feminist scholar Heidi Safia Mirza. Together they ask, How does racism and white privilege manifest itself now? Why has the equality legislation and the diversity industry failed? What is the language of ‘antiracism’ and have we moved from ‘institutional racism’ to ‘unconscious bias'? What clarity does a black feminist intersectional approach bring, and how can we decolonise minds and institutions? About Reni Eddo-Lodge Reni Eddo-Lodge is a London-based, award-winning journalist. She has written for the New York Times, the Voice, Daily Telegraph, Guardian, Independent, Stylist, Inside Housing, the Pool, Dazed and Confused, and the New Humanist. Vance NEWS ROUNDUP The Department of Justice is now officially considering charges against individual members of WikiLeaks. The Obama administration did not press charges against WikiLeaks on First Amendment grounds, saying that WikiLeaks should be considered a news organization. The Trump DOJ is looking to reverse that course. Matt Zapotsky and Ellen Nakashima report in the Washington Post. The FCC deregulated broadcasters and companies offering business data services in orders released during the Commission's open meeting last week. The FCC voted to allow market forces to solely govern the prices for business data services that small businesses, schools, police departments, schools and other organizations pay for data. Democratic Commissioner Mignon Clyburn issued a strong dissent saying it is "one of the worst she has seen in her years at the Commission". The Small Business Administration's Office of Advocacy opposed the changes, as did the EU ambassador to the U.S., who said the changes would favor U.S. companies in violation of World Trade Organization norms. FCC Chairman Ajit Pai and supporters of the rule changes argued the FCC had accumulated plenty of data over the last 12 years to make an informed decision about the BDS rules. And as far as the broadcast rules -- the Commission reinstated the UHF discount allows broadcasters to count only half of viewers who receive tv broadcasts via UHF towards the 39 percent market ownership cap. Amir Nasr has this story in Morning Consult. FCC Chair Ajit Pai has publicly stated that he wants his agency to stay out of the federal government's review of AT&T's acquisition of Time Warner. The way to do that is to ensure that no broadcast licenses are at stake, since broadcast licenses are firmly within the FCC's jurisdiction. Well, the FCC last week approved Time Warner's sale of WPCH-TV in Atlanta to Meredith broadcasting, thus removing a broadcast license, but as Jon Brodkin notes in Ars, Time Warner still holds several additional licenses that enable Time Warner to transmit its cable network programming on HBO, CNN and its other properties. At over $2 million, AT&T contributed more than any other company to Trump's transition team. The FCC is still working on overturning net neutrality, but Ajit Pai reportedly held meetings with several tech companies to get their insights on what revised rules might look like. Last week, Pai spoke with representatives from Facebook, Oracle, Cisco and Intel--Cecilia Kang has more in The New York Times.
