A giant stroke of serendipity – a script abandoned for nine years, the availability of a Hollywood star and a determined trio's passionate pitch to Netflix - has led to a racy Afrikaans skop-skiet-en-donder series filmed in Pretoria making it onto the American streaming service. Next month Netflix will premier its first Afrikaans series Ludik, starring South African-born Hollywood actor Arnold Vosloo who was last seen in Silvertone Siege and other local local heavyweight talents Rob Van Vuuren, Diaan Lawrenson and Zane Meas. A Netflix spokesperson confirmed to Sunday Times that Ludik is indeed the first Afrikaans production to make it onto the service, and that it will go out globally on 26 August.

David Kramer took us on an audio journey of his career. Recorded at his home in Cape Town. I have removed the interviewing questions and just allowed David to talk and on occasion play his guitar for us. The audio was recorded several years ago in preparation for David's upcoming Oppikoppi show in 2011. The interview was conducted with Rob Van Vuuren and Martin Evans. Due to internet issues back then, I was unable to release this. The file name was lost in the ether and I recently uncovered it again. Upon listening I felt that it was a fantastic interview with David and felt that it was more than worth putting online.
Jacaranda FM — Comedian Rob van Vuuren says his latest film, Van Der Merwe - the Movie, pokes fun at the man at the centre of many an Afrikaans joke, but in a good way. "I grew up with Van Der Merwe jokes so I always had a picture in my mind, not knowing that picture was me," he told MornéJK. He says it was important to create the character, Van Der Merwe, with heart.
Strictly Come Dancing winner, Rob Van Vuuren, returns to South Africa after months of performing in Europe. He gives his impressions on the French, then discusses the difficulty of getting whiskey on SAA, American Football in Botswana, Australian squid autopsies - and finally - tries his best to get controversial about African history.
We interrupt Rob Van Vuuren's France-bound theatre production to discuss his triumph on Strictly Come Dancing, being SA's John Travolta, Christmas plans, Patrick Swayze... and then end the year with a delightful Afro-George Michael-bongo duet.
We get hold of Rob Van Vuuren, who strongly resembles Twakkie from The Most Amazing Show. A cellphone provider is tested as we attempt unbroken cellular contact while discussing his efforts to win Strictly Come Dancing, trips to Zanzibar and wedding orgies. And yes, there's a horoscope and other things. Free of charge.
