Welcome to Season 4 of WTF Strictly. We tell people it stands for "Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot". No-one believes us. Two rambling, middle aged women give an unfiltered (and absolutely unqualified) analysis of Strictly Come Dancing. It's Icon's Week and we've got a lot to say, including our thoughts on Tess and Claudia's announcement that they are hanging up their stilettoes at the end of this series. There's also an appendix for all the links mentioned - you'll find that on our Facebook page! You can find us on Instagram @oh_nickie & @violetfenn and please follow our Facebook page to keep up with any news, announcements, polls and mid-week weirdness.
Angela Rippon's message is simple but powerful: you don't need to be a dancer to dance. You just need music, a moment, and the willingness to move.In this heart-warming conversation, I am honoured to be joined by the legendary broadcaster and campaigner who shares how dance has shaped her life, from childhood ballet classes to Strictly Come Dancing, and why it's become her mission to get the nation moving through her Let's Dance campaign. We talk about how dance lifts mood, improves health, and connects people across generations, and why joy might just be the missing ingredient in how we think about movement. To find out more about today's guest and for the full show notes, visit:The Make Movement Matter PodcastIf you enjoy this podcast, please press Follow and Rate and Review. Since appearing on Strictly Come Dancing last year, and winning, comedian Chris McCausland tells Access All that he's "more open" and hadn't appreciated that showing vulnerability and a struggle to achieve really connects with people. Tune in for a really insightful conversation between Chris and Emma Tracey, who is blind like Chris, and asks questions other interviewers would never think of. He also talks about how he sometimes does up to three shows a day on his current stand-up tour. Paul Carter presents in Emma's absence as we return to the ongoing worries about the Access to Work (ATW) scheme and how campaigners like Dr Shani Dhanda from pressure group the Access To Work Collective believe cuts are happening with no announcement. Disability Correspondent Nikki Fox brings us up to date with this week's ATW figures which have just been released to show how much the government has spent on the scheme this last year.Sound mixing by Dave O'Neiill, produced by Kevin Satizabal Carrascal and Alex Collins. Ellie Goldstein is the first person with Down syndrome to ever be on the cover of British Vogue. She's also the first person with DS to ever be on the show, “Strictly Come Dancing” — basically UK's equivalent of “Dancing With The Stars!” Naturally, the internet has A LOT of opinions about it. Today we're diving into a Facebook post full of ableist comments disguised as empathy. And we're wondering: Would these comments be made about a celebrity without an intellectual disability? What is the difference between supporting someone with DS and infantilizing them? How do we change people's minds about this? This is a good one, friends! Joining us this episode to discuss the highs and lows of parenting (and life) is the brilliant actor and comedian - Chris McCausland. Chris first appeared on the show back in August 2021 and it's fair to say a LOT has happened with Chris since then, including winning the last series of Strictly Come Dancing! You can listen to his his first appearance HERE (Series 3 Episode 12) His new autobiography book 'Keep Laughing' is out now. Already one of the country's best loved comedians, Chris McCausland's participation on Strictly was a phenomenon. But how did the boy from Liverpool end up winning the hearts of the nation? This is his remarkable story, of a twenty-five-year journey through sight loss to blindness. Of the highs, the lows and the downright hilarious along the way. From being a lowlife conker dealer, and running his very own bootlegging empire (kind of) . . . to almost becoming a spy for MI5 (really) . . .And of how he dared himself to try stand-up comedy, and ended up being brilliant on all your favourite TV shows. Before, of course, he surprised himself, as well as everybody else, when he tried dancing on live TV in front of millions.Warm, honest, insightful and laugh-out-loud funny, this is the most likeable, cheering and uplifting book of the year! The show is a phenomenon of British television, and our guest is the longest serving professional dancer on the series – the sparky Venezuelan-American dancer Karen Hauer. Karen spoke to us just before she learned her partner for the 2025 series would be the Team GB sprinter Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (aka Nitro from Gladiators) – but Karen tells us how she forges a partnership with a non-dancing celebrity, and about the pressures and pleasures of the iconic show. Karen Hauer is Strictly Come Dancing's longest standing professional dancer, starring in the show since 2012. Her partners have included Westlife's Nicky Byrne, The ‘Hairy Biker' Dave Myers, Jeremy Vine, Will Young, Jayde Adams and Paul Merson. Previously, she was crowned 2008 World Mambo Champion, was a finalist on So You Think You Can Dance USA, and principal female dancer in the original Broadway cast of Burn The Floor and subsequent world tours. With Gorka Marquez, she created the successful shows Firedance and Speakeasy, on which she was Associate Choreographer and Associate Creative Producer. Janette Manrara is a dancer and choreographer who we first got to know as one of the professional dancers in the UK on Strictly Come Dancing, and who now presents its sister show ‘It Takes Two'. Janette is married to fellow dancer Aljaz Skorjanec and together they have a 2 year old Lyra.Janette and I talked about her start in life as daughter of a young Cuban immigrant couple in Miami, and about her first job in a bank before she took a risk to pursue her dreams as a dancer. Janette told me that the enforced career break that Covid brought, made her realise she did want to be a mum. She also shared that she believes her time performing on stage and TV makes her a better mum to Lyra because she is fulfilled, and in a 'complete flow state' when she's performing. I know that feeling well myself!Spinning Plates is presented by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, produced by Claire Jones and post-production by Richard Jones. Hosted on Acast. RNIB Connect Radio's Toby Davey is joined again by Vidar Hjardeng MBE, Inclusion and Diversity Consultant for ITV News across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the channel Islands for the next of his regular audio described theatre reviews. This time we step into a world of deception, desire, and deadly ambition with ‘The Talented Mr Ripley' at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre with description by Professional Audio describer Carolyn Smith. About ‘The Talented Mr Ripley' “I never wanted to murder anyone. It was necessary.” Tom Ripley is a nobody – scraping by in New York, forging signatures, telling little white lies – until a chance encounter changes everything. When a wealthy stranger offers him an all-expenses-paid trip to Italy to bring home his wayward son, Dickie Greenleaf, Tom leaps at the opportunity. But in the sun-drenched glamour of 1950s Italy, surrounded by shimmering waters and whispered secrets, Tom is seduced by the life Dickie leads – the freedom, the wealth, the effortless charm. Fascination turns to obsession, and as his grip tightens on Dickie's world, the lines between truth and deception begin to blur. What starts as an innocent opportunity spirals into a chilling game of lies, identity theft, and murder. In Mark Leipacher's new adaptation of The Talented Mr. Ripley, Patricia Highsmith's classic novel is reimagined for the stage in thrilling fashion! Originally published in 1955, the novel won the Grand Prix de Littrature Policire in 1957 and was named in 2019 on the BBC's list of the 100 most inspiring novels. Spawning movie adaptations, radio versions and TV spin-offs, don't miss its brilliant transition to stage this year! What is the story? From the smoky jazz bars of Manhattan to the golden coastlines of Italy in the 50s, the psychological thriller follows Tom Ripley, a nobody desperate to be somebody, slipping deeper and deeper into a labyrinth of lies, until the consequences of his choices begin to close in. The ten-strong ensemble cast is led by Ed McVey as Tom Ripley. Ed was one of the stars of The Crown. Bruce Herbelin-Earle from Netflix's Free Rein is Dickie Greenleaf and EastEnders regular and Strictly Come Dancing finalist Maisie Smith stars as Marge Sherwood. In this episode, Lisa Gillbe personal stylist sits down with Chamiah Dewey, founder of Dewey, the extra petite clothing brand making waves, and Riccardo Sai, Head of Stories. ‘Petite' is typically defined as 5ft 3" and under, but as Chamiah and Riccardo reveal, finding stylish, well-fitting clothes becomes even tougher if you're 5ft or under. Most shops simply don't cater for you—and shopping the kids' section can feel demoralising and limiting. Dewey is changing all that, with chic day-to-day pieces and an exciting launch of their new denim line—specifically tailored for the extra petite frame. Chamiah and Riccardo explain the creative journey behind the brand and their commitment to fit, empowerment, and style for an underserved demographic. Hear the inside story on Dewey's recent campaign with two high-profile guests: Paralympian Ellie Simmonds and Strictly Come Dancing pro Jowita, both under 5ft and passionate about redefining what women under average height can expect from fashion. Their stories of frustration—and Dewey's mission—shine a spotlight on why representation matters in the petite fashion world. Tune in to discover: Why standard petite sizing rarely goes far enough How Dewey's designs help women feel confident and seen More about the new denim launch and upcoming collection The brand's inspiring campaign and celebrity advocates If you're tired of squeezing into children's clothing, yearning for grown-up style and fit, or just curious about the innovative world of petite fashion, this episode is a must-listen!
