Welcome to Season One Episode Two of the HECHO Corpus Christi Podcast, the podcast featuring Corpus Christi’s Creators Makers Doers and Builders. Steven Hansen is our guest on today’s episode. Steven is a local songwriter, musician, audio and sound engineer, worship leader, and venue promoter. Several years ago, Steven transformed the open-air courtyard of a local church into a music venue designed for audiences to have a true listening experience. The venue is appropriately named “The Churchyard” although in this interview I called it The Courtyard at least once. We recorded on the stage at The Churchyard, which is on busy Staples Street in Corpus. You’ll hear cars going by and birds chirping in the background and maybe some kids playing. But that’s the part of the beauty of what Steven created. He carved a music venue out of the rawness of a courtyard, and The Churchyard has since hosted some of the best local, regional, and national singer-song writers and bands. Steven lets us behind the curtain, and I know you’ll be excited to go experience a show at the Churchyard as its new season gets underway. Thanks for listening! Let’s visit with Steven! Join Turg and Randy Z as they explore another topic featured in the Netflix Original Series "Master of None" as they go back to Season One Episode Two and talk about the one thing that most 30-somethings can't seem to wrap their heads around - parenting - and... Why is the idea of kids so scary? Randy talks about his trip to San Diego and why it was so significant for him. This sets the stage for what comes about as a random conversation into parenting and Turg and Randy get to talking about kids. That’s where Randy’s true, deep-rooted fears surface; Randy doesn’t think he can face the fact of whether he can hack it as a parent. In Master of None Season 1 Episode 2 there is a strong underlying theme of trying to figure out the next step to take in one’s 30s. The biggest dilemma is always around starting a family and having kids. Does this need to be a thing? Turg relates to this episode as he talks through the early years (still on-going) of parenting and how he struggled to come to terms with his new role in life. A lot of what is shown in this episode of Master of None can be mirrored in thought by millions of people out there – so why is this concept still so foreign? Turg argues that it is because you won’t know it until you’ve lived it. Turg also thinks that it changes the way people perceive their own self and self-worth, but cautions it really has a lot to do with preconceptions and pre-existing disposition. As a parent, you are the wind and the child is the sailboat Randy’s concern with parenting branches off into many derivative thoughts about his ability to parent. He feels that finding the balance between guidance and force is a fine line to walk without potentially misdirecting one’s children. How do you influence your child? What’s your style? Turg says that the decision is ultimately the children who control the outcome of their lives based on the experiences they have and use the guidance as a measuring stick for life. The bachelor’s mentality is strong with this one Randy knows having kids will change everything, but does he want to give it all up? Turg thinks so. Being selfish is not a negative thing – sometimes we need that time to decompress. Randy thinks sacrifice is an inherent part of becoming a parent, but Turg disagrees. You can have more if you work smarter, earn harder, just buckle down and do more. Turg says just change that shit. You can do it, you’re in control. Where are you at in life? How have kids either played a role in your life now or how do you think they would impact you in your 30s? And if you haven’t watched Master of None, check it out on Netflix. Is Anybody Watching Into The Badlands: Fist Like a Bullet In a world without guns, fighting is an art! Into The Badlands on AMC stars Daniel Wu as a one of the most lethal Clippers killing for his Baron, and Aramis Knight as a young boy with more power than he may realize. They search for enlightenment in a ruthless and bloody territory controlled by feudal barons. Season One-Episode Two of Into the Badlands: Fist Like a Bullet  (AKA Girl Power) Mad Props to the creator of the Opening Sequence  Music by Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park. Several GREAT fight scenes in this episode, starting off with the nightclub fight. Once again, this show gives us great fight choreography and beautiful cinematography. Don't mess with a girl wearing stiletto heels. Need Proof? Check out the One Minute, 52 Second mark of video below Questions to ponder (aka give us your feedback) Why are there no guns? Are the girls biological sisters, or just a sisterhood of clippers? Where are the bows and arrows?  Is there a code that is codier than the samurai code? #morecodierthanthat  According to James, Corey Feldman should have been named Cody Feldman  #obligatorytangent  Is the symbol a women only secret?    How does The Widow know about MK’s ability? What’s in the book?  Suggestions for shows to podcast about. Minerva is no "Mother" of the Year but Matilda has us all impressed.  Someone has a crush on Veil.   Ryder’s foot made our toes curl…  #feetaregross #ihatefeet   Sunny draws a line in the sand with Quinn We debate the hows, whys, and what ifs, of Sunny killing (or not killing) Quinn. Who’s Waldo? (Stephen Lang from Avatar and Terra Nova)  Sunny and Quinn leaving the fort is very reminiscent of The Emerald City (Oz) Tilda tries (and fails) to save MK. Does MK have super skin? Quinn’s backstory: Apparently a baron can be from any walk of life. The Widow’s Trap was great, but the fight scene was better!  Back on track: MK was pretty quick to accept “the deal" (Bite off your legs monty python reference)   WE LOVE FEEDBACK!
