From Struggle To StrategyClifton Sellers' journey is a masterclass in resilience. From battling addiction and personal loss to building a thriving ghostwriting agency, his story is one of radical transformation. In this episode of Just Keep Learning, Clifton opens up about his darkest chapters, and how he used writing, therapy, and entrepreneurship to rewrite his life.We explore how he went from surviving trauma to helping others share their stories, and what it truly means to move from inspiration to execution.Writing As A LifelineClifton first found healing through journaling raw, unfiltered pages that helped him make sense of the chaos. Over time, writing became more than just self-expression. It became a service. He started helping others put their stories into words, and soon realized he had a gift not just for writing, but for understanding people. This evolved into a full-time ghostwriting business that empowers entrepreneurs to use storytelling as both strategy and therapy.Ghostwriting, Branding, and Agency BuildingToday, Clifton runs a successful ghostwriting agency, helping thought leaders turn their ideas into books, speeches, and brand-defining narratives. But it didn't start with a polished business plan. It started with asking one question: How can I serve with what I've been through? We break down how Clifton built his agency step by step, from DM outreach and landing his first clients, to scaling with systems and team building. He shares the real behind-the-scenes of what it takes to turn a personal skill into a sustainable business.Mental Health, Masculinity, and MeaningThis episode goes far beyond content strategy. Clifton speaks candidly about addiction, grief, fatherhood, and the pressure men face to "have it all together." We discuss the importance of therapy, the healing power of honest conversations, and why vulnerability is a strength, not a weakness. His story reminds us that the path to success isn't linear and that our greatest pain can become our greatest platform.Lessons For Aspiring CreatorsAuthenticity always beats polishYour story matters, no matter how messy it isDon't wait until it's perfect. Just start where you areWriting is a service. Help others express what they can'tEntrepreneurship starts with solving one real problem, for one person.Mental health is non-negotiable. Prioritize healing as much as hustle Memorable Quotes“You don't have to be healed to help.”“Writing is a mirror. The more honest you are, the more powerful it becomes.”“I didn't build a brand. I built a life that felt like me, and the brand followed.”“If you show up with service first, you'll always have a seat at the table.”Final Advice For CreatorsTurn your mess into your message. Someone out there needs to hear it. You don't have to be an expert, you just have to be honest. And if you don't know where to start? Write. It all starts with the pen, or pencil on the page.Guest BioClifton Sellers is a ghostwriter, storyteller, and founder of a growing agency that helps entrepreneurs turn their life experiences into powerful personal brands. What happens when a viral political debate meets centuries of biblical prophecy—and your kids are the ones asking the hard questions? In this pivotal episode, Catherine confronts a question that’s as theologically complex as it is culturally relevant: Is the modern nation of Israel the same Israel God promised to Abraham, or has the church replaced her in God’s plan? This topic has taken center stage in cultural and theological debates, fueled by viral exchanges between commentators like Tucker Carlson and Ted Cruz, as well as in the classroom, on college campuses, and around family dinner tables. Catherine welcomes back Jewish historical scholar Clifton Payne Junior for a deep dive into Israel’s biblical, historical, and genealogical identity. Key moments include: The viral exchange between Tucker Carlson and Ted Cruz that exposed how unprepared many believers—and national leaders—are to answer “Is the Israel of Genesis 12 the same as modern Israel?” Dinesh D'Souza’s fascinating breakdown of how the Jewish people have genetically, culturally, and historically preserved their identity despite centuries of exile and persecution. Powerful prophecies in Ezekiel, Isaiah, and Amos—read in synagogues on the very day Israel was reborn in 1948—that reveal God’s hand at work through history. The “dry bones” prophecy, dissected in real-time as evidence of God reviving both the physical and spiritual life of the Jewish nation, with numbers of Messianic Jews in Israel growing 100-fold since 1948. A behind-the-scenes look at why so many Christians (and their kids) misunderstand Israel’s role in God’s redemptive plan, and how replacement theology distorts our perspective and engagement with both history and scripture. The core of “replacement theology” and why it matters. Whether the modern state of Israel (established in 1948 and led by Benjamin Netanyahu) is truly the continuation of the nation God promised to Abraham. The mystery of partial spiritual blindness over the Jewish people, the rise of Messianic Jews, and scriptural explanations many Christians and Jews have missed. The danger of misunderstanding Israel’s significance, and how well-meaning Christians and secular thinkers alike have sometimes distorted or neglected the biblical narrative. Special attention is given to Ezekiel 37’s “valley of dry bones” prophecy, the fulfillment of Isaiah 66’s “nation born in a single day,” and the astonishing coincidence that the scheduled synagogue reading on the Sabbath Israel was reborn included Amos 9’s promise of restoration—a detail highlighted from Jonathan Cahn’s Book of Mysteries. Through scholarly insight, biblical exposition, and practical application, this episode equips parents to have intelligent, faithful conversations with their children about Israel, prophecy, and what it means to “bless” this nation. It concludes with a call to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and a reminder that God’s faithfulness to Israel is a testament to His faithfulness to all His people. Meet the Guest: Guest bio: Clifton Payne Junior is a gifted Bible teacher and Jewish historical scholar with advanced studies in Jewish history from Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Can God still move mountains, heal the sick, and intervene in dramatic, supernatural ways—or are miracles a thing of the past? Does the power of our prayers invite God’s hand, or is it all predetermined? In this unforgettable episode, Catherine sits down with Clifton Payne Jr.—author, pastor, and someone who has personally witnessed the miraculous—to tackle these timely and crucial questions for every Christian parent. Together, they explore: Real-Life Miracles: Clifton shares a stunning testimony of praying over his wife’s dearest friend—a woman with a terminal brain tumor who, against all odds, survived life-threatening surgery and then, during a moment of crisis, experienced an instantaneous healing as they cried out to God. “Not in my name nor authority, but in the authority of Jesus of Nazareth—I command these fluids to be gone.” Instantly, her lungs, ravaged by stomach acids, were clear. “I didn’t feel anything except a sense of anger at the injustice—but the miracle happened.” When Miracles Don’t Come: Even after this incredible event, Clifton and his family faced sorrow as their friend soon passed away. Together, Catherine and Clifton wrestle with what it means when God doesn’t answer as we hope. The Role of Prayer: Drawing on scripture and personal experience, they discuss how prayer isn’t just a ritual—it’s a gateway for God’s will on earth. Clifton notes, “Jesus gave us a model prayer: ‘on earth as it is in heaven.’ Is there any sickness in heaven? No. Poverty? No. So I can always pray against those things.” Catherine urges parents, “It won’t be my lack of faith or prayer that prevents God from doing the miracle. I’m going to pray for healing, and for His will to come.” God’s Not a Formula—He’s a Relationship You’ll be challenged by the reminder that miracles aren’t the result of a spiritual formula or magic words. Cliff and Catherine emphasize that God leads and acts through relationship, not rote ritual. “Always write your theology in pencil,” Cliff was taught. We’re called to listen, trust, and obey—even when the outcome isn’t what we’d have chosen. Seeking rules and protocols miss the point: “It’s all about being in tune with the Spirit, walking closely with God, and learning to hear His voice.” Prayers and “Coincidences”: Clifton quotes Canon J. John: “When we pray, coincidences happen. When we don’t, they don’t.” The episode emphasizes that partnering with God in prayer is far more than wishful thinking—it’s joining Him in His ongoing work. Standout Quotes: “God doesn’t always write the story the way you would.” “When we pray, coincidences happen. When we don’t, they don’t.” As Christian parents, the question isn’t just does God still perform miracles?—but are we inviting Him into our lives and our children’s future through faith-filled prayer? Can your children witness the wonder of God—not just hear about it? About the guest:Clifton H. Payne Jr., author of What the Bible Really Says About Tithing and Giving: It’s Different than You Think, is a former pastor, Bible student, and eye-witness to miraculous moves of God, whose journey from church hurt to New Age, and back to vibrant faith, is a testimony every parent should hear. Tune in for encouragement, challenge, and hope—discover how faith (and prayer) can unlock God’s intervention in the crazy world we parent in. Discussion prompt for parents:What miraculous answers to prayer—big or small—have you witnessed or experienced? How can you model faith-filled prayer to your children, trusting that God still listens and acts, even when the outcome isn’t what you expected? Library of Congress, the NAACP, Rotary International“Your will to succeed remains one of your greatest assets.”Clifton TaulbertAccording to Clifton L. Taulbert, noted author and entrepreneur businessman, he could have failed had he not encountered community builders and entrepreneurial thinkers early on in his life. Taulbert was born on the Mississippi Delta during the era of legal segregation where he completed his secondary education. Though opportunities were few and barriers were plentiful, Taulbert managed to dream of being successful, not knowing the shape that success would take. Today Taulbert is the President and CEO of the Freemount Corporation (a human capital development company) serving clients nationally and internationally-Fortune 500 Companies, small businesses, federal agencies, professional organizations, community colleges and K-12 leadership. Additionally, entrepreneur Taulbert is the President and CEO of Roots Java Coffee-an African-American owned national coffee brand, importing coffee from Africa. To pass his life lessons along, Taulbert shares his entrepreneurial journey with others as a Thrive15.com mentor. He is a Generational Bridge of Segregated Times tio Integrated Times Today. In "The Invitation," Clifton Taulbert returns to the themes of "Once Upon a Time When We Were Colored," his award-winning book and the source of a major motion picture. This new memoir chronicles Taulbert's transformative experience of a supper invitation to a former plantation house in Allendale, South Carolina, where the successful adult confronts his childhood memories and wrestles with the legacies of slavery and segregation that demand to be acknowledged in his present circumstances.Transported back to a setting that looks and feels like the cotton fields and shotgun shacks of his childhood, Taulbert finds himself expected to cross racial barriers that no "colored" man could have broached without dire consequences. "The Invitation" is the story of the man and the little boy inside him wrestling with a past they both know so well, and of stepping into a future that is still being determined.Taulbert is a trustee of the University of Tulsa, has been recognized international by the Sales and Marketing Academy of Achievement, the Library of Congress, the NAACP, Rotary International as a Paul Harris Fellow and has been a recipient of the Jewish Humanitarian of the Year Award and the Richard Wright Literary Award. Sheriff Baxter meets with registered nurses who speak on behalf of many health care workers who experience violence in the workplace from the very patients they are trying to help.
In the late summer of 1968, 22-year-old Joan Freeman reported for an overtime shift at Hoffman-LaRoche, a sprawling pharmaceutical complex on the border of Clifton and Nutley, New Jersey. What should have been an ordinary Saturday at work became a nightmare: Joan would not leave the building alive. From the strange theories surrounding industrial theft and espionage to potential connections with other New Jersey cold cases, we examine the angles investigators considered and what they ultimately concluded. In this episode, we also touch on patterns in workplace homicides, the chilling notion that a coworker could have committed the crime, and the eerie possibility of a connection to the infamous “Torso Killer”, a thread we'll explore in greater detail in a future episode.Join us as we honor the memory of Joan Freeman and navigate the unanswered questions that haunt her story.Trigger Warning: This episode includes discussions of graphic violence. In this episode of Book Talk, I interview Ash Clifton, a debut author from Gainesville, Florida, about his intense thriller, Twice The Trouble. I like to compare this novel to works by Michael Cane, Tom Clancy, and Daniel Silva. Ash shares his journey of becoming a writer, inspired by his father's role as Chief of Police and Ash's exposure to former football players on his college team. He discusses the creation of his complex protagonist, a former cop and football player. Ash also talks about the challenges he faced, including cutting characters and scenes based on his agent's recommendations, and how he managed to keep the story engaging. He emphasizes the importance of a hero being both good at heart and having a sense of humor. Additional topics include the writing process, dealing with self-doubt, and his aspirations for a movie adaptation of the book.Connect with Ash CliftonX | Facebook | Instagram | BlueSkyWant to watch this interview? This week on Bourbon Bytes, Clifton reviews the Frank August Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon — recently crowned World's Best Bourbon at the 2025 IWSC. At 100 proof and $70 retail, does this sleek decanter hold a whiskey worthy of the title, or is transparency (or lack thereof) its biggest flaw? Tune in for a full breakdown, tasting notes, and final score. Also in whiskey & gaming news:
