Carter and Payton Bradsky—siblings, co-founders, and the CEO/CTO team behind LymeLess Health—join Dr. Karlfeldt to share a deeply personal and practical conversation about navigating Lyme+ illness and how they're using technology to change the patient experience. With Carter's lived experience battling Lyme disease, Babesia, Bartonella, and mold toxicity—and Payton's background as a former Google software engineer and product manager—this episode connects real-world patient pain points to a new kind of solution: Ella, an AI-powered companion built specifically for Lyme+ patients. Learn more (and find the app) at https://lymeless.com/.You'll hear how their family's journey began with their mother being dismissed after years of symptoms and dozens of doctors—until one chance conversation led to Lyme testing and answers. Carter and Payton break down what it was like to be kids and caregivers, how symptoms can show up differently in each person (from brain fog and anxiety to seizure-like episodes and misdiagnosis), and what actually helped them move toward remission. They also explain why Lyme care is so difficult to manage day-to-day—and how Ella helps patients track symptoms, treatments (including pulsing protocols), and lifestyle factors, then turn that data into actionable insights and shareable reports to improve doctor visits. If you've ever felt overwhelmed trying to remember what changed, what helped, or what triggered a flare—this episode offers a new framework: reduce the burden of “managing Lyme” so you can focus on living again. From weekly insights to provider-ready summaries and a future vision for research breakthroughs driven by patient data (with patient privacy and ownership at the core), this conversation is packed with hope, clarity, and next-step tools.Key Topics CoveredThe Bradsky family's “Lyme was a family affair” origin story—and how diagnosis finally happenedMedical gaslighting and dismissal: “It's all in your head” and the toll it takes on familiesBeing a child/caregiver while a parent becomes bedridden: trauma, coping, and shifting family dynamicsCarter's symptoms (brain fog, anxiety, dissociation) and the impact on athletics and college lifePayton's seizure-like episodes, epilepsy misdiagnosis, loss of license, and eventual Lyme/Babesia/Bartonella diagnosisWhy Lyme recovery is rarely linear: flare patterns, stress effects, and measuring progress when memory is impairedIntegrative treatment approaches: herbals + antibiotics, detox support, probiotics, and pulsing protocolsThe “appointment gap” problem: forgetting symptoms, underreporting, and losing clinical time to catch-upHow Ella works: daily check-ins, trend detection, symptom/treatment tracking, and weekly insightsProvider-facing reporting (“warrior report”) and the long-term goal of precision medicine + research breakthroughs via opt-in anonymized data _______________________________The Karlfeldt Center offers the most cutting-edge and comprehensive Lyme therapies. For a while now, astronomers have suspected that Betelgeuse has a companion. And they might have found it. If it really exists, though, it won’t be around for long. Betelgeuse is a supergiant. It’s about 15 times as massive as the Sun, hundreds of times wider than the Sun, and tens of thousands of times brighter. There’s a wobble in the star’s light that lasts about six years – possibly caused by the gravity of a smaller companion star. A team looked for the companion in 2020 and 2024. The team stacked thousands of short-exposure images together, producing a sharp view of the system. The researchers didn’t see anything in 2020 – but they hadn’t expected to. The two stars were predicted to be too close together to tell them apart. But the team did see the companion in 2024, when the stars were farther apart. If the star really exists, it would be a little bigger and heavier than the Sun. But it’s so close to Betelgeuse that it’s enveloped in the supergiant’s outer atmosphere. That’s pulling the star closer in. Eventually, it should get so close that the gravity of Betelgeuse will rip it apart. And even if that doesn’t happen, before long Betelgeuse will explode as a supernova – bad news for both stars. Betelgeuse is the bright orange shoulder of Orion the hunter. It’s a third of the way up in the east-southeast at nightfall, to the left of Orion’s Belt. More about Orion tomorrow. Script by Damond Benningfield
In this episode we look at the published version of Chapter 22. We talk about how proactive Anne is in these final chapters, the arrival of Charles, Mary and the Musgrove clan, Louisa's change in personality, how the Musgroves all want Anne to be with them, and the first time Wentworth actually refers to the time he and Anne were together. The characters we discuss is are Charles and Mary Musgrove. Forgiveness sounds simple, until you actually have to live it out.In this episode, we wrestle with the real questions most people think but rarely say out loud:How do you know when you've actually forgiven someone? Is forgiveness still required if the other person never apologizes or seeks it? And is forgiveness supposed to be instant… or is there a process and timeline to it?We unpack what forgiveness is (and what it isn't), how it impacts our hearts even when reconciliation isn't possible, and why Scripture calls us to something deeper than just “moving on.”
ISAIAH WAS commissioned as a prophet in the year King Uzziah of Judah died—and it was a mindbending sight. One of the seraphim descended from the altar with a burning coal in a pair of tongs and touched Isaiah's lips to absolve him of sin so that he could remain in the presence of God. We discuss the seraphim, who were probably winged, radiant beings of serpentine appearance. The word “seraphim” literally means “burning ones,” in the sense that they destroyed enemies by incinerating them, suggesting that the seraphim may have been what we'd call dragons. Then, after hearing the Lord ask, “Who will go for us?” Isaiah responded, “Here I am! Send me”—something all of us who follow Jesus Christ do to one degree or another when we accept him as Lord. As bucks begin to shed and the woods transition into winter, this is the time when next season is quietly being decided. We talk through how we're shifting gears into the new year, evaluating the season that was, and laying the groundwork for what's ahead through offseason land management, habitat work, and farm planning. From timber and planting projects to setting priorities for the months ahead, this is the work that gives us the best opportunity at a mature buck next fall. It's time to lock in during the offseason and focus on the moves that most hunters overlook. Thanks for always supporting us, and we'll catch you guys next time. Share a commentWhat if the name you carry changes everything about how you face fear, loss, and ordinary days? We explore the surprising claim that Christians don't steal an identity; they receive one—an identity gift in Jesus that opens access to grace, strength, and a future that outlasts every headline. Drawing from 1 Peter, we walk through why scattered, marginalized believers are called profoundly privileged and how that perspective reshapes daily life.First, we look back to the prophets who spent their lives hunting down the meaning of salvation with incomplete pieces. They saw the suffering and the glory but longed to know the person and the time. We now know the name Jesus, study his words and works, and feast at a table they set. That clarity isn't a luxury to hoard; it's a compass for hard seasons.Next, we turn to preaching as a Spirit-charged work. The gospel is announced “by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven,” reminding us that real fruit never comes from clever outlines or new angles. Whether you teach, share your faith at work, or lead your family, you mine the text faithfully and trust the Spirit to make it live. Culture's breaking news fades; the living Word still breaks through. Finally, we widen the lens to the angels, those radiant witnesses who marvel at redemption. They've seen creation, judgment, and rescue, yet they never sing as the forgiven. They watch your story with holy curiosity, celebrating every conversion and every steady act of faith. Your routine labor is not small; heaven leans in.If prophets longed for your clarity, preachers rely on your Companion, and angels study your story, then you're better off than you think. Wear Christ's name with quiet courage, draw on his account with gratitude, and step into the week knowing you're seen, supplied, and sent. Willy Willy Harry Stee, Harry Dick John Harry Three. One Two Three Neds, Richard Two........ Charlie Higson's canter through the Monarchy takes us to Richard The 2nd.You'd think by now that they'd have got the hang of this whole King thing. What to do. What not to do. It is hard to believe how much happened in 2025. We saw close to one hundred movies, and even the ones we saw in the past couple of months seem like a long time ago. So going back a few twelve months seems like an epic journey. And we do go back to the very beginning of the year. There are some movies that we said at the time that we would be talking about in our year end review. The major releases that caught everyone's attention. The twisted take on Cinderella that is head and shoulders above everything else in the public domain subgenre. The haunted house movie with the four legged star. Then, there were the ones that even surprised us. The killer clown movie that was not a gore fest starring a clown named Art. The tense thriller that had one of the best performances of the year. The remakes that were so good not because they were novel but because they did what they should have done. There are a lot of horror movies out there and with so many viewing options, it can be overwhelming to pick one. This show will help you make those decisions. Every single movie on here is an absolute must see that you should go out of your way to watch. Utilizing data from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and ground-based observatories, researchers traced the influence of Saguara as it interacts with Betelgeuse's outer atmosphere. This discovery sheds light on the star's peculiar brightness variations and its eventual fate as it nears a supernova explosion, which could occur at any time in astronomical terms.A Black Hole's Powerful FeastIn a remarkable observation, astronomers witnessed a black hole shredding a massive star in what is described as the most powerful event of its kind ever recorded. Known as a gravitational tidal disruption event, this phenomenon released energy equivalent to 400 billion times that of our Sun, surpassing even the most energetic supernovae. The event, cataloged as AT 2024WPP, offers new insights into black hole behavior and the dynamics of stellar destruction.BepiColombo's Journey to MercuryThe BepiColombo spacecraft is nearing its orbit insertion around Mercury after a seven-year journey. Launched in 2018, this multi-spacecraft mission will study Mercury's surface, magnetic field, and interaction with solar activity. The mission consists of two orbiters that will work in tandem to gather comprehensive data about this enigmatic planet, promising to enhance our understanding of planetary formation and evolution.www.spacetimewithstuartgary.com✍️ Episode ReferencesAstrophysical JournalMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical SocietyEuropean Space Agency ReportsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spacetime-your-guide-to-space-astronomy--2458531/support.
In this episode of the Parent Companion for Play Therapy series, I focus on anxiety — one of the most common reasons parents seek child-centered play therapy for their children. I explain how anxiety usually isn't something that suddenly appears, but instead reflects an underlying predisposition that has been present for a long time. Often, a single event brings that anxiety to the surface, and from there, children begin fearing the fear itself. As anxiety increases, so does a child's need for control, which is why anxiety and power struggles so often show up together. I walk through what anxiety looks like inside the playroom, including resistance, hesitation, and the slow pace anxious children need in order to feel safe. I explain how fear-facing play, repetition, and desensitization help children rebuild trust in themselves. Over time, as anxiety decreases, we also see a decrease in control behaviors, alongside increases in self-esteem and emotional vocabulary. This episode helps parents understand what anxiety really is, how CCPT addresses it, and how growth in therapy leads to lasting change beyond the playroom. For the 242nd episode of Private Parts Unknown, host Courtney Kocak welcomes author, baker, and reproductive rights advocate Becca Rea-Tucker. Fresh off the release of her new book, The Abortion Companion, Becca shares her own abortion story, her work in reproductive justice, and her experience becoming a mother in post-Roe Texas. Becca and Courtney unpack abortion stigma, the myth that abortion and motherhood are opposing identities, why Becca prefers the term pro-abortion over pro-choice, and why later abortion is so often misunderstood. We also explore the realities of accessing abortion care amid the hostile political landscape and the dangers abortion bans pose to all pregnant people. We're kicking off our slate of episodes looking back at the best horror films of 2025 with a double-feature conversation about two films which each took relationships to a horrific level. TOGETHER, written and directed by Michael Shanks and starring real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie, explores elements of codependency and insecurities within relationships by serving up a healthy dose of body horror in a literal relational union. Meanwhile, COMPANION, written and directed by Drew Hancock and starring Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid, tackles issues of objectification, power dynamics, and control within relationships by filtering a thriller-vibe narrative through a distinctly technological lens. Both films tackle issues of wholeness, self-determination, autonomy, and commitment and we invited longtime FoGger and Ghoul Scout Vera Goudie to discuss all of the ways the horror in these films reflects the risks -- and sometimes the rewards -- of complicated relationship dynamics. Also featuring a Patron-only segment where the three of us briefly share our thoughts on the landmark series finale of STRANGER THINGS, this is an open and thoughtful conversation that we really hope you enjoy.Patron Only Segment: Takes on the Stranger Things Series Finale7:51 - TOGETHER + COMPANIONSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
If you're planning to have an abortion soon or you have had one in the past… if you're feeling a strong emotion (or many of them) before or after receiving care… or if you are looking to support a friend, Becca Rea-Tucker's (author, baker, and reproductive rights advocate) new book, The Abortion Companion: An Affirming Handbook for Your Choice and Your Journey, is a safe and supportive resource to learn more and have a safe space. Becca wrote the Abortion Companion after her own abortion. Many pre-existing products for abortion contribute to stigma, but Becca's book emphasizes that any feeling (including joy, sadness, relief, or a mix) is ok to feel. The book features self-compassion exercises, comfort tv and movie sections, conversation scripts, affirmations, and more. The book also offers a break from the day-to-day fight for abortion care, imagining a future where the world is unapologetically pro-abortion. Getting offended is unavoidable, but staying offended is a trap. In this episode, we explore how Scripture describes offense as a spiritual stronghold, why it's such a powerful tool of the enemy, and how wisdom, forgiveness, and trust in God lead to freedom rather than retreat.
PROPHECIES OF the coming Messiah are woven throughout the Book of Isaiah. The one we encounter in this week's study, chapter 4 of Isaiah, is not as well known as the prophecy of Isaiah 11:1 (“There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit”), but the reference to “the Branch” (Hebrew tsemach) is also found in Jeremiah 23:5 and 33:15, and Zechariah 3:8 and 6:12. The rest of this week's study is a sharp contrast to the prophecy of a savior who will restore “the survivors of Israel.” Isaiah 3:1–4:1 and 5:1–30 is a prophecy of God's judgment the people of Judah for their failure to meet His standards. This week's questions: How do we defend a futurist view of prophecy? Did Satan persuade the fallen Watchers (the sons of God from Genesis 6:1–4) to rebel? And what Bible commentary do we recommend? In this Hunt Companion, Jared breaks down a recent late-season hunt where he took a shot and missed a buck he calls GR8 — the only true shooter on his Ohio farm. He walks through what went wrong, what he learned, and why missed opportunities aren't always a bad thing. As deer season winds down, the conversation shifts from hunting mode into offseason farm work, and how moments like this can shape better decisions moving forward. Liz and Ben do a little light Summer reading as they tackle one of the biggest Discworld books of all – Terry Pratchett and Stephen Briggs' The Discworld Companion, in all its various editions (but mostly 2021's The Ultimate Discworld Companion). From the Abbott of the History Monks, to dimensionally-displaced traveller Jack Zweiblumen, the Discworld Companion is an alphabetical encyclopaedia of everything Discworld! Flip to your favourite character, location or thing from across the Disc, and rediscover what made you fall in love with this world all over again. After Stephen Briggs started adapted the Discworld novels for the stage, he started to make notes about how the pieces of this fictional world fit together. He started by suggesting it would be possible to draw a map of Ankh-Morpork, and then advanced to trying to encompass the whole of the world in a single reference work. That was in the 1990s, at the height of Discworld's fame and success – and before the world wide web was on everyone's desk (or in everyone's pocket). But there have been four major editions (and multiple other revisions) of The Discworld Companion since then, each bigger than the last – and the Dunmanifestin expanded edition of The Ultimate Discworld Companion is probably the biggest Discworld book of all time! Do you have a copy of the Companion? Which edition is it? How do you read it, and what are your favourite entries? What would you compile an encyclopaedia about, and what would you put into the Discworld Companion if you got the chance? And do you know where Mr Harris and the Blue Cat Club come from – if they come from anywhere? Let us know your answers via social media (optionally using the hashtag #Pratchat91), send us an email, or comment on our website to join the conversation! You can find episode notes and errata on our web site. Next month it's back to the digital Discworld, as we play and discuss the second Discworld adventure game, Discworld II: Missing, Presumed…!? (aka Discworld II: Mortality Bytes.) Send us any questions you have via email (chat@pratchatpodcast.com) or social media, optionally using the hashtag #Pratchat92. Want to help us get to the end of our six(ish) year mission and read every Pratchett book – and more? You can support us with a tip, or a subscription for as little as $2 a month, and that's cuttin' our own throats! See our Support Us page for details.

As we say farewell to another year, I'm reminded that there are many times in our lives when we must say goodbye. Many of those moments are unplanned, like the loss of a loved one, a dear pet, or even a job. Today, I invite you to join me as I talk about how a meditation practice can help you navigate the losses you experience in your lives. Since grief is such an individual process there's no way I can tell you how to effectively manage it, on or off the cushion. Offense is the bait, unforgiveness is the trap. This episode explores why offense is so powerful and how Jesus calls us to respond.
In this episode of the Parent Companion for Play Therapy series, I explain the idea of layers of an onion and how it helps parents understand what's really happening as children work through challenges in child-centered play therapy. Each issue a child brings — anxiety, control, regulation, self-esteem, fear — is its own layer, but none of them exist in isolation. They are all connected and influence each other as part of the child's overall growth. I walk through how these layers develop and shift together over time, alongside the four universal outcomes of play therapy. When a child works on one area, it naturally impacts others. This episode builds on the waffles and spaghetti concept and helps parents understand why play therapy leads to broad, meaningful change rather than isolated fixes — and why children don't work through issues one at a time, even if it looks that way from the outside. Archetypes carry light and shadow attributes that show up in your daily life. The Companion brings loyalty until it betrays confidences or loses identity in codependency. The Samaritan helps people you'd ignore until they're recording good deeds for social media validation. Servants give freely until they're carrying people with functional legs, building resentment. Mentors refine character until they stomp on students who surpass them. The Avenger balances justice until righteousness becomes cancel culture. Shadow work isn't optional because rainbow-and-bunnies healers miss half the human experience. To celebrate Melvyn Bragg's 27 years presenting In Our Time, five well-known fans of the programme have chosen their favourite episodes. Author and columnist Caitlin Moran has picked the episode on the English medieval mystic Margery Kempe and recorded an introduction to it. Margery Kempe (1373-1438) produced an account of her extraordinary life in a book she dictated, "The Book of Margery Kempe." She went on pilgrimage to Jerusalem, to Rome and Santiago de Compostela, purchasing indulgences on her way, met with the anchoress Julian of Norwich and is honoured by the Church of England each 9th November. She sometimes doubted the authenticity of her mystical conversations with God, as did the authorities who saw her devotional sobbing, wailing and convulsions as a sign of insanity and dissoluteness. Her Book was lost for centuries, before emerging in a private library in 1934.This In Our Time episode was first broadcast in June 2016. The image (above), of an unknown woman, comes from a pew at Margery Kempe's parish church, St Margaret's, Kings Lynn and dates from c1375.WithMiri Rubin Professor of Medieval and Early Modern History at Queen Mary, University of LondonKatherine Lewis Senior Lecturer in History at the University of HuddersfieldAndAnthony Bale Professor of Medieval Studies at Birkbeck University of LondonProducer: Simon TillotsonReading list:John H.
