We welcomed back one of our favorite guests, comedy writer and author John Vorhaus! John's first appearance was one of our most concise and informative episodes, and his return didn't disappoint. Jason and John discuss the enduring legacy of his book, The Comic Toolbox, and dive deep into his new projects, including the upcoming expanded omnibus, The Comedy Writer's Companion and his deeply personal new project, Sins of Commission - Thank God. Are Stoics really emotionless? It is the most common thing people believe about Stoicism, and it puts a lot of people off the one idea that might actually help them.In this conversation I sit down with Erick Cloward, host of the Stoic Coffee Break podcast and author of Stoicism 101, to take the myth apart. We get into why the word "stoic" came to mean cold and shut down, and why the Stoics actually felt their emotions fully. They just learned to be masters of them rather than ruled by them.Erick shares the example that makes it click: two people miss the same bus. One shrugs and reads a book, the other is furious. Same event, two reactions. The difference is never the event. It is the judgement you add to it. We also get into amor fati, the view from above, and what it really takes to react less and recover faster.Try this after listening: next time you react strongly, name the event in plain terms, then name the story you added on top. The gap between them is where the work happens.Erick's book and podcast: stoic.coffee Companion article: https://www.stoichandbook.co/podcast/are-stoics-emotionless/ Free 7-Day Stoic Challenge: stoicchallenge.coThe Stoic Vault: stoicvault.com
The prophet Micah, a contemporary of Isaiah, prophesied the coming judgment of God on the kingdoms of Israel and Judah at the hand of the Assyrians. Our chronological reading order brings the book of Micah into the middle of our study of Isaiah. While Isaiah prophesied a day when the kingdom of Judah would declare, “God is my salvation,” Micah's prophecy is a warning of God's imminent judgment for the sins of Judah and Samaria. We see both prophecies as being of the “already but not yet” type, fulfilled in the eighth century BC, but with a future fulfillment still to come. Bear in mind when reading Isaiah 12 that the the Hebrew word translated “salvation” is Yeshua—Jesus. Ethical AI Practice for Counsellors and Psychotherapists in the UK - Recognising Poor Supervision in Counselling Training In Episode 379 of the Counselling Tutor Podcast, your hosts Rory Lees-Oakes and Ken Kelly take us through this week's three topics: Firstly, in ‘Ethical, Sustainable Practice', they explore professional accountability and responsibility in AI in counselling practice - including who holds responsibility if something goes wrong. Then in ‘Practice Matters', Rory speaks with Ken Kelly about his new book, Ethical AI Practice for Counsellors and Psychotherapists in the UK, and the growing role of AI in counselling and psychotherapy. And finally, in ‘Student Services', Rory and Ken discuss recognising poor supervision in counselling training - including red flags to look out for and what good supervision should provide. Accountability and Responsibility in AI Counselling Practice [starts at 03:10 mins] In this section, Rory and Ken explore accountability and responsibility in AI counselling practice, examining the ethical and legal responsibilities counsellors hold when using AI tools in their work. Key points discussed include: The responsibility for clinical decisions always remains with the practitioner, even when using AI-supported tools. Counsellors need to critically evaluate any digital tools they use, including understanding how client data is stored, protected, and accessed. It's important to consider what happens if a tool provider closes down or experiences a data breach. Practitioners should check whether their insurance covers the use of AI-supported systems in clinical work. Ethical decision-making includes documenting why a tool was accepted, rejected, or adopted with conditions. Using anonymised or non-identifiable client information can add an extra layer of protection when working digitally. Ethical AI Practice for Counsellors and Psychotherapists in the UK [starts at 26:58 mins] In this week's ‘Practice Matters', Rory speaks with Ken Kelly about his new book, Ethical AI Practice, exploring the ethical use of AI in counselling and psychotherapy. Key points from this conversation include: Ken describes the moment he realised AI would significantly impact every profession, including counselling and psychotherapy. The book was written to help practitioners navigate AI ethically while formal guidance from professional bodies continues to develop. The AI Expert Reference Group brings together representatives from counselling organisations, training providers, and ethical bodies to discuss developments in AI. The book focuses on applying existing counselling skills and ethical thinking to AI rather than teaching technical knowledge. AI is already appearing in counselling practice through tools, apps, and client use - often without practitioners realising it. Companion resources include ethical evaluation tools, AI policy templates, therapeutic contract examples, and downloadable workbooks. Recognising Poor Supervision in Counselling Training [starts at 01:07:52 mins] In this section, Rory and Ken discuss how counselling students can recognise poor supervision and what healthy supervision should look like. Key points include: Students are paying for a professional service and should expect clear contracting, appropriate support, and professional boundaries. A good supervisor should understand the needs of counselling students and ideally have experience supervising trainees. Supervision should feel supportive and safe while still offering appropriate challenge and professional development. Supervisors should understand the modality and context in which the student is working, including online or telephone practice where relevant. Warning signs may include feeling unable to bring mistakes into supervision, blurred boundaries, or supervision sessions that lack depth and challenge. Good supervision helps students grow in confidence, reflect critically on their practice, and develop professionally in service of their clients. Terence Tao was a child prodigy, and became a mathematics professor in the United States at age 24. In his early 30s he won the Fields Medal, known as 'the Nobel Prize of Mathematics'. Tao is considered one of the greatest living mathematicians, in part because of the breadth of his contributions to the field – from finding new patterns in prime numbers to solving several of the "unsolvable" Erdős problems. On Monday, the King's Birthday, Tao was awarded Australia's highest civilian honour, the Companion of the Order of Australia. In this bonus episode of The Briefing, Terence Tao, AC, speaks with Natarsha Belling about the pleasures of solving problems, and how maths makes the world a less scary place. If you want more Terence Tao, one of the YouTube channels he mentions is 3Blue1Brown, and Tao is featured on an episode. Misha Glenny and guests discuss an ancient civilisation who lived over 2000 years ago in the southwest of modern-day Libya. During prehistoric times, the Sahara Desert was greener and even had large lakes, but for the last 5000 years it has been a hyperarid environment. Extreme swings of temperature and limited surface water might make the Sahara seem like an inhospitable place to live, but an ancient people in North Africa known to us as the Garamantes thrived there. Following descriptions of the Garamantes in Roman and Greek texts, the Garamantes have often been seen as pastoral nomads, or as tribal barbarians on the periphery of the Mediterranean world. But the work of archaeologists in recent decades has revealed something different. Evidence suggests a society with flourishing towns and cities, complex underground irrigation systems, a key role in trade routes across the Sahara – and may give us a broader view of ancient history.WithDavid Mattingly Emeritus Professor of Roman Archaeology at the University of LeicesterFarès Moussa Visiting Fellow at the University of Southampton and Cultural Heritage ConsultantAndJosephine Quinn Professor of Ancient History and Fellow of St John's College, University of CambridgeProducer: Martha OwenReading list:C.M. Shauna and Olivia are in the studio together live and in person, so naturally this episode revolves around artificial life forms. Robots and Artificial Intelligence are hot topics right now, as so-called AI actresses threaten to take over Hollywood, large language models steal our creative endeavors, and humans are demonstrably losing brain power because we need AI programs to compose simple emails for us. Looking back almost 100 years ago at Metropolis to the 1980s' Terminator-style killer robots through today's "good for her" sex-bot revenge movies, the Junkies look at the pop culture robots that want to help us, kill us, sleep with us, or all three. They discuss how well fictional movies have predicted our current reality, and discuss future worst-case scenarios and how we can come together to avoid them. Dort verfasst ein Dichter gerade ein Werk, das das Bild Roms, und vor allem auch das Bild seines neuen Herrschers Augustus bis heute prägen wird. What happens when a physician faces a devastating obstetrical outcome, crushing malpractice premiums, and the realization that the career path they've chosen is no longer sustainable? In this deeply personal and insightful episode of Rx for Success, host Dr. Randy Cook sits down with Dr. George Nowacek—an OBGYN practicing in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and the newest addition to the MD Coaches team. Dr. Nowacek shares his remarkable journey from growing up in Virginia, to an old-school residency (pre-duty hour restrictions), to private practice in Macon, Georgia, and eventually to a fulfilling academic career at UNC. He opens up about the difficult decision to stop practicing obstetrics after a traumatic outcome, the financial pressures that influenced that choice, and the unexpected joy of pivoting to a GYN-only practice and later to academic medicine. Along the way, he offers profound wisdom on defining success on your own terms, cultivating relationships across a lifetime, and prioritizing the activities that charge your battery. Key Topics Discussed: Growing up with parents in education and discovering medicine as an "assumption" rather than a dramatic calling. The challenge of choosing a specialty with limited information in medical school. Why OBGYN appealed to his personality: every day is different (medicine, primary care, procedures, surgery). The reality of residency in the pre-duty hour era: survival mode, doubt, and learning on the fly. Reflections on duty hour restrictions and the evolution of medical training. The transition from residency to private practice: the "quantum jump" from trainee to the person in charge. The emotional and practical impact of a bad obstetrical outcome. How malpractice premiums (pre-caps) made obstetrics financially unsustainable. The decision to leave obstetrics and pivot to a GYN-only private practice. Being recruited into academic medicine at UNC Chapel Hill. The rewards of teaching: watching trainees grow from interns to chiefs. Discovering coaching through a grand rounds presentation and pursuing training. The importance of peer support for physicians who have experienced bad outcomes. Dr. Nowacek's three prescriptions for success: define success for yourself, cultivate relationships, and find what charges your battery. Send us Fan MailSunapee is the kind of short trail race that exposes everything you skipped in training. Two loops. Steep ski-area grades. A second lap that turns sloppy and technical. And if the forecast holds, wet rock, roots, and mud that can rip shoes right off your feet. That's why we're so fired up for the Sunapee Scramble and the US Mountain Running Championships, where a national title and Team USA selection spots are on the line. We walk through the course in plain language, then get specific about what actually wins here: when to push the first climb, why patience matters before the second loop, and how East Coast terrain changes the game for athletes coming from smoother, faster trails. We also dig into the “complete runner” trend in mountain running, where pure aerobic engine is not enough and technical descending skill plus race-day decision-making can flip the results in minutes. Then we name names. We talk women's contenders and the wide-open opportunity created by who's not on the start list, plus the men's field with proven killers, risky front-runners, and a few dark horses who could turn this into a breakout performance. We also touch on prize money and what it means for sustainable growth in professional trail running. Subscribe for more mountain running previews, share this with a friend who loves short trail chaos, and leave a review with your podium picks so we can debate them after the race.Contact our CoHost Steve Taylor for Commercial Insurance NeedsDirect - (970)-384-8338Email - steve.taylor@glenwoodins.comUse code SteepStuff for 20% your cart on Sidas.usFollow James on IG - @jameslaurielloFollow the Steep Stuff Podcast on IG - @steepstuff_podFollow Sidas USA on IG - @sidas_usa
LESSON 156I Walk With God In Perfect Holiness.Today's idea but states the simple truth that makes the thought of sin impossible. It promises there is no cause for guilt, and being causeless it does not exist. It follows surely from the basic thought so often mentioned in the text; ideas leave not their source. If this be true, how can you be apart from God? How could you walk the world alone and separate from your Source? We are not inconsistent in the thoughts that we present in our curriculum. Truth must be true throughout, if it be true. It cannot contradict itself, nor be in parts uncertain and in others sure. You cannot walk the world apart from God, because you could not be without Him. He is what your life is. Where you are He is. There is one life. That life you share with Him. Nothing can be apart from Him and live.Yet where He is, there must be holiness as well as life. No attribute of His remains unshared by everything that lives. What lives is holy as Himself, because what shares His life is part of Holiness, and could no more be sinful than the sun could choose to be of ice; the sea elect to be apart from water, or the grass to grow with roots suspended in the air. There is a light in you which cannot die; whose presence is so holy that the world is sanctified because of you. All things that live bring gifts to you, and offer them in gratitude and gladness at your feet. The scent of flowers is their gift to you. The waves bow down before you, and the trees extend their arms to shield you from the heat, and lay their leaves before you on the ground that you may walk in softness, while the wind sinks to a whisper round your holy head. The light in you is what the universe longs to behold. All living things are still before you, for they recognize Who walks with you. The light you carry is their own. And thus they see in you their holiness, saluting you as savior and as God. Accept their reverence, for it is due to Holiness Itself, Which walks with you, transforming in Its gentle Light all things unto Its likeness and Its purity. This is the way salvation works. As you step back, the light in you steps forward and encompasses the world. It heralds not the end of sin in punishment and death. In lightness and in laughter is sin gone, because its quaint absurdity is seen. It is a foolish thought, a silly dream, not frightening, ridiculous perhaps, but who would waste an instant in approach to God Himself for such a senseless whim?Yet you have wasted many, many years on just this foolish thought. The past is gone, with all its fantasies. They keep you bound no longer. The approach to God is near. And in the little interval of doubt that still remains, you may perhaps lose sight of your Companion, and mistake Him for the senseless, ancient dream that now is past.“Who walks with me?” This question should be asked a thousand times a day, till certainty has ended doubting and established peace. Today let doubting cease. God speaks for you in answering your question with these words:I walk with God in perfect holiness.I light the world, I light my mind andall the minds which God created one with me.- Jesus Christ in ACIM

Most independent consultants think differentiation means a sharper niche, a cleaner methodology, or better positioning. It doesn't.The consultants landing more work aren't winning because of their pitch or their network. They're winning before the proposal gets written. If you're like most consultants, you think the real evaluation happens when you submit the proposal. It doesn't. Buyers are already deciding in the conversation, before a scope ever gets drafted. In this episode, Melisa breaks down what consulting buyers are actually weighing when they choose which consultant or consulting firm to engage. You'll learn- the mistake most consultants make about differentiation, - how corporate buyers actually decide who to engage, and - four specific ways to use your consulting skills inside the sales process so buyers choose you first. The proposal is a formality. The decision happens long before that. You already have the skills (even if you don't realize it). This episode shows you how to use them before a proposal ever gets drafted. "There's a pension somewhere in your name that you haven't looked at in five years." That's a sentence Paddy finds himself saying in client meetings more often than you'd expect. Across a 25-year career, the typical Irish professional works for three or four different employers — and the result, by the time someone reaches their mid-fifties, is often €100,000 to €500,000 spread across multiple dormant pensions that haven't been reviewed in years. In this episode, Paddy walks through what he calls the forgotten pension problem: the structural feature of Irish pension administration that means employer-funded pensions don't follow you when you change jobs. He explains the 2-year vesting rule, what it means to be a "deferred member" of a scheme, and the four decisions every senior professional faces when leaving a role with a pension: leave it where it is, transfer to your new employer's scheme, transfer to a Personal Retirement Bond, or transfer to a PRSA. He also covers two structural changes that took effect at the start of 2026. The first is auto-enrolment "My Future Fund", which launched on 1 January 2026 and now automatically enrols workers earning over €20,000 who aren't already in a workplace pension. The second is a new restriction: transfers from group occupational schemes to personal pension structures (PRSA or PRB) are now only permitted before Normal Retirement Age — a planning point for anyone approaching a late-career exit. The episode closes with the annual pension audit — three questions Paddy walks through with clients each year to address the forgotten pension problem deliberately rather than letting inertia decide. A VISION of Noah was inserted into the Book of 1 Enoch, with interesting references to Leviathan and Behemoth. These are chaos monsters. Leviathan, described as female and from the sea, and Behemoth, male and occupying the wilderness—possibly the same one into which the Watcher Azazel was thrown as punishment for his role in corrupting humanity. We discussed the “already but not yet” prophecies of 1 Enoch 57–59 and the end times fulfillment of the vision ascribed to Noah in chapter 60. As a reminder, this month's study comes from the Book of Parables, the prophetic section of 1 Enoch written just before the birth of Jesus. The importance of this section of the book is in its prophecies of a coming messianic figure called the Chosen One, the Anointed One, and, most frequently, the Son of Man, a title not found in any prior Jewish writing. Jesus referred to himself as the Son of Man 78 times in the New Testament. The high regard for 1 Enoch held by Jesus, the apostles, and the early church suggests that it's worth our while to study this book for ourselves. It's not in the Bible, nor should it be, but there are teachings in the New Testament that come straight from the book of 1 Enoch. Hearing God begins with making space for Him. Jesus consistently withdrew to be with the Father, modeling that prayer is not a last resort, but a first response. When we intentionally create space, God becomes our safe place, and from that place, His peace and presence shape how we live. Join us for week one of our series, Unmute.

[School of Movies 2026] As we perform a shutdown on MA.I. with a rousing singalong of 'Daisy Bell', we get to one of the least-seen-yet-best of the whole bunch. 2025s Companion seems to have had a hard time really hooking audiences in. "What, it's about a killer robot or something, but she looks like a cute girl." No, that's M.3.G.A.N. and that little brat poisoned the well for this absolute beauty, TWICE with her TikTok dancing and nothing below the surface! Companion is following in the eerily perfect footsteps of The Stepford Wives (the savagely satirical 1975 original, not the embarrassing Nicole Kidman remake). It's about autonomy and escape from exploitation. It's hilarious and inventive and touchingly sad, and frightening and exhilarating, visually striking, and Sophie Thatcher -especially following her turn in Heretic (2024)- is absolutely one to watch in modern-day thrillers. We take you through the film scene by scene, knowing full well that very few of you will have seen it. So we suggest you listen along until you're desperate to watch it for yourself and find out how it ends.

When you think about your revenue goal for this year, what's the first thought that runs through your head? For most independent consultants it's some version of "I hope I can make it happen" or "I'm trying to make it happen."If you're like most of us, you don't even know you're thinking it.It's subconscious. And it's the reason your consulting business keeps plateauing, even when your strategy, your offers, and your effort all look right on paper. In this episode, Melisa walks through the three belief stages every independent consultant operates from.Doubtful. Hopeful. Inevitable. You'll hear what each one sounds like in your own head, the impact each one has on your pipeline and pricing, and how to tell which stage you're in right now. You'll also hear three real examples.Sarah, who set a 500K goal from a hopeful place and got herself to a 625K run rate once she stopped asking her business to prove it was possible first.Colin, who replaced a referral-dependent pipeline with speaking and three conversations a week. Same work, different headspace. And Amy, who shifted from day rates to value-based pricing in ten minutes a day.If you've been telling yourself you need a better strategy, you should listen to this one first. The strategy isn't the ceiling. The way you're thinking about your goal is.What you will learn in this episode:[00:05] - The first thought that reveals how you are approaching your consulting goals[02:00] - What separates consultants who hit their numbers from those who stay stuck[03:05] - Companion resource: Business Brain Journal[05:00] - The three belief stages: doubtful, hopeful, and inevitable[07:00] - How doubtful thinking creates inconsistent revenue and watered-down action[09:30] - Why hopeful thinking still creates consulting business plateaus[11:45] - What an inevitability mindset sounds like[13:00] - How to identify your belief stage across goals, sales, pipeline, and pricing[16:30] - Goal setting example: turning a $500K goal into consistent $50K months[22:30] - Pipeline example: moving from word-of-mouth dependency to lead generation ownership[26:00] - Pricing example: raising rates and moving toward value-based pricing[31:00] - The inevitability test for independent consultants[34:30] - How to add inevitability thinking into your business owner routineTune in to Episode 272 for a practical look at how to make success inevitable as an independent consultant, so you can stop operating from hope and start building from certainty.Resources Mentioned:Companion Resource: Check out Melisa's Business Brain JournalFull Show Noteshttps://shownotes.melisaliberman.com/episode-272Want More?• Melisa's Books, Planners & Journals: https://linktr.ee/melisaliberman• Get Melisa's Book: https://www.melisaliberman.com/book• Visit Melisa's Website: https://www.melisaliberman.com/ • Follow on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/melisa-libermanWant help achieving your consulting business goals? In this final episode of the Parent Companion for Play Therapy series, I reflect on why this season has mattered so much to me and to the field of child-centered play therapy. Parents are a crucial part of a child's healing journey, and one of our greatest goals is helping parents feel equipped to understand what their children need, how to communicate with them effectively, and how to support them as they grow and work through struggles. Whether your child is in play therapy or not, every child benefits from having at least one adult who deeply understands, supports, and believes in them. I also share the exciting news that the Parent Companion for Play Therapy book is now available on Amazon. The book was created to help parents better understand the play therapy process and how children grow emotionally, relationally, and developmentally through that work. Finally, I introduce Season 4 of the podcast, which will focus entirely on answering your real parenting questions. Moving forward, I want the podcast to center on the issues, struggles, and concerns that matter most to you and your family. Send us Fan MailDeep-dive into a 2026 cardiology review paper claiming seed oils reduce inflammation, exposing misrepresentations of cited clinical trials, and detailing how oxidized Ω-6 fats trigger inflammation.Companion article: Click HERETOPICS DISCUSSED:Seed Oil Profiles: Typical seed oils like sunflower are high in linoleic acid (omega-6 PUFA), while canola is higher in monounsaturated fats and resembles olive oil.Review Paper Critique: The 2026 JACC review falsely claims sunflower oil reduce inflammation like olive oil, citing an RCT that showed benefits only for canola and olive.RCT Analysis: In Iranian women with metabolic issues, switching to canola or olive oil lowered CRP by increasing MUFA and decreasing PUFA intake; sunflower oil produced no change.CRP Biology: CRP responds to oxidized lipids and cellular damage patterns, rising with exercise or infection and marking oxidized Ω-6 metabolites in modern diets.Oxidized Lipids: Ω-6 fats in LDL and cardiolipin oxidize easily, generating 4-HNE, MDA, and other signals that trigger immune clearance, similar to bacterial threats.Sterile Inflammation: High dietary linoleic acid causes chronic immune activation without pathogens, potentially contributing to metabolic and cardiovascular issues.PRACTICAL TAKEAWAYS:Prioritize monounsaturated fats from olive or avocado oil over high-linoleic seed oils like standard sunflower or soybean for lower oxidative stress potential.Check labels for high-oleic versions of sunflower oil, which shift the profile toward monounsaturated fats.Evaluate nutrition claims by examining original studies and fatty acid compositions rather than accepting review summaries at face value.Support the showHealth Products by M&M Partners:AquaTru: Water filtration devices that remove microplastics, metals, bacteria, and more from your drinking water.
