June 23, 2026 Daily Devotional:  “The Advocate”John 14:26  But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." ​ ​Imagine standing in the upper room with the disciples. Jesus has just dropped a bombshell: He is leaving. The structural pillars of their entire world are shaking. They had given up their fishing boats, tax booths, and reputations to follow Him, and now He's talking about departure. Fear and confusion are thick in the room. ​But right in the middle of their panic, Jesus makes a staggering promise. He doesn't leave them a set of complex manuals or tell them to just "white-knuckle" life until He gets back. Instead, He promises a Person: The Advocate. It literally means "one called alongside tohelp." Depending on your Bible translation, you might see it written as Counselor, Comforter, Helper, or Advocate. It's a multi-layered legal and relational term. The comforter as the one who brings peace when your heart is broken. ​The counselor as an advisor who provides divine wisdomwhen you don't know what step to take next. ​The advocate as a defense attorney standing next to you when shame or doubt whispers that you aren'tenough. ​Jesus tells us that this Helper has two main jobs in our daily lives: to teach us and to remind us. ​Life has a way of making us forgetful. When the medical diagnosis is bad, when the bank account is low, or when a relationshipfractures, we easily forget who God is and who we are to Him. We experience spiritual amnesia. That is exactly when the Holy Spirit steps in. He doesn't just teach us new intellectual facts; He whispers the ancient truths of Christright into our current chaos. He reminds you that you are chosen, you are loved, and you are never alone. On a personal level, this is how the Spirit operates in daily life. When you are tempted, discouraged, or anxious, and a specific verse or truth about God suddenly pops into your head out of nowhere—that is John 14:26 in action. It is the Holy Spirit reminding you of Christ's truth right when you need it most. The big takeaway in John 14:26 means that followers of Jesus are never left to navigate life, faith, or trials on their own. We have an indwelling,divine Companion whose job is to give us wisdom we don't naturally possess and bring back truth we easily forget. ​You don't have to carry the weight of figuring out life by yourself today. You have a Divine Companion walking right beside you.​ The next time you feel overwhelmed orconfused today, stop for 30 seconds. Take a deep breath and simply pray: "Holy Spirit, teach me right now, and remind me of who Jesus is." If you are struggling with a specific anxiety today, find one promise of Jesus in scripture, write it down, and trust the Holy Spirit tobring it to your mind whenever the worry creeps back in.

Send us Fan MailHow far can pathologists take visual biomarker scoring before human vision becomes the bottleneck?In this episode, I talk with Doug Bowman. PhD, VP Precision Medicine at Indica Labs, about what happens when companion diagnostics move from traditional visual scoring into the era of AI-powered image analysis. Doug comes from a biomedical and electrical engineering background, with experience in microscopy, digital image analysis, pharma workflows, and now precision medicine at Indica Labs. That combination makes him a great person to talk to about how image analysis actually fits into real companion diagnostic development.We start with a very practical question: what is a companion diagnostic, and why is it becoming so important in precision medicine? Doug explains that companion diagnostics are developed alongside therapeutics to help identify which patients are most likely to benefit from a specific treatment, especially in more complex therapies like antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). We use HER2 as an example, and from there we get into the real challenge: once a biomarker cutoff matters clinically, visual estimation around that cutoff becomes much harder than many people want to admit.That is where this conversation gets especially useful for pathologists and digital pathology trailblazers. We talk about the limits of human vision, why low or ultra-low biomarker expression is difficult to score consistently, and how AI helps at multiple levels of the workflow: slide QC, tissue classification, cell segmentation, membrane and cytoplasmic measurement, and spatial analysis. Doug makes the case that AI is not only a convenience here. In some cases, it is the only realistic way to capture the kind of quantitative information modern therapies need.We also get into one of the more interesting examples from the episode: the Trop2 story, where a ratio of cytoplasmic to membrane expression appears to predict therapeutic efficacy better than looking at one compartment alone. That kind of compartment-level quantitation is exactly where computational pathology becomes more than a digital version of what the eye already does. It starts uncovering measurements and signatures the eye cannot reliably extract on its own.Another important part of the discussion is workflow and regulation. Doug walks through how AI-powered companion diagnostics are developed from preclinical work, to human feasibility studies, to RUO or clinical trial assays, and eventually toward analytical and clinical validation with regulatory engagement happening early. We also talk about the Indica Labs and Leica Biosystems partnership, and why end-to-end capability matters when you are trying to build something clinically deployable rather than just analytically interesting.What I liked about this conversation is that it stayed grounded. We did not talk about AI as magic. The prophet Micah, a contemporary of Isaiah, prophesied the coming judgment of God on the kingdoms of Israel and Judah at the hand of the Assyrians. Our chronological reading order brings the book of Micah into the middle of our study of Isaiah. While Isaiah prophesied a day when the kingdom of Judah would declare, “God is my salvation,” Micah's prophecy is a warning of God's imminent judgment for the sins of Judah and Samaria. We see both prophecies as being of the “already but not yet” type, fulfilled in the eighth century BC, but with a future fulfillment still to come. Bear in mind when reading Isaiah 12 that the the Hebrew word translated “salvation” is Yeshua—Jesus. During prehistoric times, the Sahara Desert was greener and even had large lakes, but for the last 5000 years it has been a hyperarid environment. Extreme swings of temperature and limited surface water might make the Sahara seem like an inhospitable place to live, but an ancient people in North Africa known to us as the Garamantes thrived there. Following descriptions of the Garamantes in Roman and Greek texts, the Garamantes have often been seen as pastoral nomads, or as tribal barbarians on the periphery of the Mediterranean world. But the work of archaeologists in recent decades has revealed something different.
