The Prophetic = Interpretation of a Companion's Dream | Shaykh Muhammad Sägib IqbalThe video discusses a dream of Talha ibn Ubaydullah where two companions, who embraced Islam on the same day, were presented at the gates of paradise (0:36). One companion was well-known for his devotion and service and died as a martyr a year before the other (0:14). The second companion, who was not a martyr and less known for his piety, died a year later (0:28).In the dream, an angel first admitted the second companion into paradise, and then the martyred companion (0:53). The angel then told Talha to return as his time had not yet come (1:06). When Talha recounted this to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the Prophet explained that the second companion had lived a year longer and had been granted an additional Ramadan (1:33).The Prophet ﷺ emphasized that observing Ramadan with devotion and avoiding sins elevates a person's status significantly, even above that of a martyr (2:19). The video highlights the immense blessings of Ramadan, stressing the importance of avoiding sins like lying, backbiting, fighting, hurting others, and watching movies during this holy month (3:08). It encourages engaging in good deeds like reciting the Quran, studying its تفسير (exegesis), and sending salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ to please Allah (3:51).The speaker warns that disrespecting Ramadan through disobedience can lead to Allah's wrath (4:45). He cites a narration from Umm Hani stating that those who commit adultery or drink alcohol in Ramadan will be cursed by Allah and the angels until the next Ramadan, and if they die before that, they will have no good deeds to save them from hellfire (5:11). The video concludes by stressing that just as good deeds are magnified in Ramadan, so are sins (5:40).

The life of Khabbab ibn al-Aratt (RA) is one of the most moving examples of patience, sacrifice, and unwavering faith in early Islamic history.Among the first ten people to accept Islam, Khabbab (RA) embraced the truth at a time when doing so meant severe persecution. A slave and skilled blacksmith in Makkah, he was subjected to brutal torture by the Quraysh. Burning coals were placed on his back, and he faced constant abuse and humiliation, all because of his belief in Allah and his loyalty to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.Despite unimaginable suffering, Khabbab (RA) never turned away from Islam. His pain only strengthened his conviction, and his endurance became a source of guidance and inspiration for others. Later, he migrated to Madinah, took part in all major battles, and lived to see Islam flourish, a faith he once endured torture for believing in.He eventually passed away in Kufa, honored as a righteous and respected Companion. His life reminds us that truth demands sacrifice, but Allah never lets the struggle of sincere believers go to waste.This episode revisits the remarkable journey of a man whose scars told the story of faith and whose patience helped shape Islamic history.

In this episode, Alice interviews two academics who are part of the newly-founded Ancient Peace Studies Network: Professor John Hyland and Dr Rhyne King. John is a professor of ancient history at Christopher Newport University, specialising in the history of Achaemenid Persia and its relations with Classical Greece and ancient Anatolia, during the 6th-4th centuries BCE. He is the author of Persian Interventions: the Achaemenid Empire, Athens, and Sparta 450-386 BCE (Johns Hopkins UP, 2018) and co-editor of Brill's Companion to War in the Ancient Iranian Empires (Brill, 2024), and he has a new book just out called Persia's Greek Campaigns: Kingship, War, and Empire on the Achaemenid Frontier (Oxford, 2025).Rhyne is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toronto, who also researches the Achaemenid Persian Empire, drawing on Greek historiographical sources (Herodotus, Xenophon, etc.) and documentary evidence in Middle Eastern languages such as Akkadian, Elamite, and Aramaic.His first book, published with the University of California press in 2025, is called The House of the Satrap: The Making of the Ancient Persian Empire. This episode digs into different conceptualisations of peace and peacebuilding across the Achaemenid Persian Empire, exploring it both from a domestic viewpoint and in the light of interstate relations. We touch on sources such as the famous Cyrus Cylinder, and its ongoing resonance in Iranian identity-building and international politics today. And we explore the peace rhetoric of kings such as Darius I, as seen in e.g. the Bīsotūn monument. ISAIAH REPEATEDLY condemned the practice of summoning spirits from the netherworld. It's not always apparent because translators often didn't have an understanding of the cult of the dead that surrounded ancient Israel, and the impact it had on the Israelites. After prophesying the imminent destruction of the northern kingdom of Israel by Assyria, the prophet condemned the people of Judah for turning to mediums and necromancers to ”inquire of the dead on behalf of the living”. Derek wrote about Isaiah 8:18–22 in The Second Coming of Saturn: The prophet described those who looked to the spirit realm for oracles as people who were already dead: They live in darkness, and they're “greatly distressed and hungry,” like the pagan dead of Mesopotamia who are not properly cared for by their descendants. In verse 21, Isaiah makes the connection to the dead explicit, writing that these unhappy souls will “pass through” the land. The Hebrew verb ‘ābar is based on the same root, ʿbr, from which we get ʿōberim—“Travelers,” as in the spirits of the dead who “travel” or “cross over” from the land of the dead to the world of the living; it's the same word used by the pagan Canaanites to describe the Rephaim summoned from the underworld through rituals to the threshing-floor of El on Mount Hermon.What Isaiah described is the punishment for those who defied God by using ritual pits to summon the spirits of the dead—they become like the unhappy dead themselves. When they realize their fate, “they will be enraged.” But in the context of the passage, with an understanding of the cult of the dead and the role of the “king” god in it, a better translation of the following sentence is this: “And they shall curse by Molek and by their ghosts.” (Elohay, the word translated “ghosts,” isn't always a reference to God. The basic meaning is “one who lives in the spirit realm.” Context is king, and here “ghosts” or “spirits” is a more accurate reading than “God.”)-- The Second Coming of Saturn, p. 188. THE PROPHET ISAIAH lived through turbulent times, with kings of Judah who ranged from the good (Hezekiah, Jotham. Uzziah) to the evil (Ahaz, Manasseh, Amon).  In Isaiah 7, the prophet is sent to Ahaz by God with a word about the invasion of his land by the combined forces of Syria and the northern kingdom of Israel. This was despite the fact that Ahaz “made offerings in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom and burned his sons as an offering” (2 Chr. 28:3, ESV), a reference to the sacrifice of children to Molech. God gave Ahaz a sign, an already-but-not-yet prophecy:  Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. He shall eat curds and honey when he knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good. For before the boy knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land whose two kings you dread will be deserted. (Isa. 7:14–16, ESV)This was a promise that Judah would not be conquered by his northern neighbors, but it was also a promise that a virgin in the future (Mary) would give birth to “God with us”—the meaning of the name Immanuel.
