JOHN LINCOLN (WILLIAMS) chats to Paul Burke about his new novel GREY IN THE DARK, a journey in American crime fiction, CLR James and South Wales. GREY IN THE DARK: Too many people loved Kelly Rowland. One of them killed her, but was it the man in prison for her murder? Gethin Grey and the Last Resort Legals team investigate another miscarriage of justice, taking them from post-industrial dereliction of the South Wales Valleys to the gated communities of the Cardiff docklands.Gethin Grey is back in the game. His wife may have left him and he's struggling with life as a single father, but now he's got his biggest case in years. The brutal murder of a young woman called Kelly Rowland has been the talk of the South Wales valleys. Even the conviction of a neighbour, a builder called Morgan Hopkins, failed to stop the gossip. There were too many other suspects still around, among them a pair of coppers: brother and sister. So Gethin was delighted when Morgan's family stumped up the money to pay him and his Last Resort Legals team to reinvestigate the case. But when a new lead takes him undercover into a support group for recovering addicts, Gethin has to confront his own demons.Moving from the former mining towns of the valleys to the shiny new waterfront developments of Cardiff, taking in adult puppet shows and piercing parlors, derelict mines and country clubs, Grey In The Dark lays bare a world in which sex and money collide and everyone has their secrets.John Lincoln is the transparent pseudonym of John Williams, the novelist, biographer and crime fiction reviewer for the Mail on Sunday. His first book Into The Badlands explores 'a vital mix of literary criticism, personality profile, and imaginary geography' (New Statesman and Society) and has become a crime fiction classic. His true crime account of a notorious miscarriage of justice, Bloody Valentine, is a cult classic, described by Benjamin Zephaniah as his favourite book. Since then he's written eight more books including the Cardiff Trilogy of novels and biographies of Michael X, Shirley Bassey, Eartha Kitt & CLR James. His latest novel Grey in the Dark is the second Gethin Grey mystery.Laugharne Weekend 24-26th March. 2020 saw the rise of the greatest worldwide medical crisis in 100 years. Sickness and death have not been the only consequences of this global pandemic. The world has seen a rise in anti-Asian sentiment as a result of misconceptions, conspiracy theories, and ignorance about the nature and origins of COVID-19. The era has been marked by political figures in the U.S. calling the virus "Kung Flu" and "Chinese Flu", to acts of violence against Asians in countries around the globe. The behavior of some individuals has been disturbing. In some cases the acts are clearly criminal. Brave members of the martial arts community, including Cung Le and Into the Badlands', Daniel Wu, have used their Social Media platforms to highlight and bring attention to this international plague of hate. Taekwondo Life Magazine is committed to using its voice to speak out against hate of any kind. We express of our love and commitment to our Asian brothers and sisters around the globe and we thank them for their contributions to the world.Support the show (https://squareup.com/store/tae-kwon-do-life-magazine/item/podcast-support-donation)

A live Q & A from the Great Philadelphia Comic Con 2019 with the star of Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, Paul and Into The Badlands, Nick Frost.
For our Random Rewatch this week we move into Rossi's pick and look at the AMC series Into The Badlands. How is the combination of Mad Max, Hunger Games, The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones with a bit of Asian influence thrown in so compelling? Can Rossi explain why half the characters have a white streak in their hair? Is everyone on this show high and it's all in their imagination? What makes this a must see episode despite not featuring the two main stars? Is Quinn the villain of the story, the hero or the anti-hero? Can Colin make sense of this show by being dropped part way into the second season? Why is Rossi such a fan of The Widow? Can this episode be the Red Wedding of the Into the Badlands universe? The conclave of Treaty Foundation members hereby commences, so join us all in entering Into The Badlands!★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
