This episode was brought to you by our friends at Velofix. DM @velofixquebec on IG to get your exclusive LE RUN DOWN PROMO CODE and receive 15% OFF your next tune up. -------- On this episode of Le Run Down I learnt a bunch about movement and why it's important for runners with triathlete, chiropractor, and elite runner Garrett De Young. Growing up, he was a multisport athlete who got exposed to a variety of sports, and found himself excelling at running. Competing at a high level helped Garrett see the challenges athletes face and how many lacked general strength and mobility. He is now a professional in the space, helping athletes to not only move better in sport but also in life. Show notes: https://drgarrettdejong.com/ (Dr. Garrett de Jong | Chiropractor – Move Better. This week's episode is an absolute cracker. I really wanted to dig deep on leadership but not just from a research perspective, not from a theoretical perspective and not just from my own experience perspective. I wanted to dig and get the perspective of different people in different fields and so I chatted to Frankie Ryan, Jay Walkerden and Kev Toonen, all leaders in their own right but all leaders from very different backgrounds. What are their leadership styles? Who inspires them as a leader? Are there similarities in their beliefs or strategies on leadership? Anthony 'Frankie' Ryan - CEO of Youngcare a fantastic charity. Jay Walkerden - GM of Nova 106.9 Brisbane's undisputed no.1 Radio Station Kev Toonen - Owner and Founder of Strength Elite and former soldier. I have no doubt you will gain an enormous amount from this episode of the podcast. I really enjoyed putting this one together and can't thank the guys enough for taking the time to participate with in the show with me.   See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

This week's episode is a sit down chat with Kev Toonen the founder and owner of Strength Elite in Sydney. Kev has a bulletproof mindset and delivers it without the fluff or the need to make you feel good about what makes people true high performers. His belief that strength is never a weakness and designing programs and life so that people are harder to kill mentally, physically and emotionally, are things that you need to hear whether you want to or not. Kev is also the man behind Alyssa's Strength and Conditioning program which prepares her physically for the high mountains she likes to climb. There's so much more but I will leave it for you to listen. You can find Kev at https://strength-elite.com/   See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

= BE HARDER TO KILL = Kev Toonen is a former special forces operator who stepped into the Human Performance realm at the armed forces. He now provides his decades of experience to athletes and the public alike. Every single time I sit down with Kev three things happen. (1) I laugh. (2) The conversation goes deep. and (3) I learn something... this is why I asked him on the show. Kev's specific essay question was: What is the Law Of Accommodation? How do you apply the law when programming for performance and tactical athletes? Do the principles of the law merge from physiological performance to psychological performance? Discuss We also discussed N.L.P, motivation, increasing self-value and self-worth as well as Kev's training programmes and philosophy. If you work or train hard and want to perform at your peak - You will love this episode.   Show Notes: 00.00 - 01.37 Preamble and Advertising 1.38 - 02.42 Podcast Introduction 02.43 - 04.38 Introduction of Kev Toonen 04.39 - 06.02 Philosophy of Programming 06.03 - 10.06 Extrinsic vs. Intrinsic Motivation 10.07 - 14.53 Kev's history of resilience 14.54 - 21.35 High Performance, Special Operations & the Armed Forces 21.36 - 25.37 Explanation of Kev's company, Strength Elite 25.38 - 32.18 Kev Toonen personal philosophy 32.19 - 36.54 Navigating a new lifestyle and making sure life doesn't get too easy 36.55 - 42.54 How we learn 42.55 - 45.30 People follow what we Do not what we SAY 45.31 - 57.41 The Law of Accommodation 57.42 - 1.03.44 Kev's current Challenge 1.03.45 - 1.07.29 What's Inspiring Kev 1.07.30 - 1.09.21 Oz' Take Aways 1.09.22 - 1.11.24 Kev's Ambition 1.11.25 - 1.14.13 How to contact Kev and Thank You   www: strength-elite.com IG: @strengthelite   www: wordswithoz.com IG: @ozzie.mike IG: @WordsWithOz

In one of my favourite interviews so far I sit down with Kevin Toonen - founder of Strength Elite. This man served in the Australian military for 18 years and is currently on the board of the Tactical Strength and Conditioning Association. We talk about building mental toughness and resilience, taking ownership and our training philosophies which are very similar. Kev has plenty of all time stories from his time serving Australia that have helped turn him in to the man he is today. He also provides a ton of great book recommendations for coaches and business owners.  Hope you guys enjoy this one as much as I did!
