This is the second part in a series of multiple "Candid Conversations" with Dr. Bryan Taylor of Taylor Mobile Veterinary Dentistry. Dr Taylor was kind enough to sit down with us to discuss some of the many cases we have seen this year during our routine exams here at Leatherman Lane, as well as some terminology, insight into equine dentistry, a little background on him personally, and so much more... Dr Taylor graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996, and moved to North Carolina to join a practice (focusing on all aspects of equine medicine) in Davie County shortly thereafter. In 2002, he left to start his own practice, that dealt exclusively with equine dentistry. His desire to promote the importance of equine dentistry has led him to teach at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where he holds the position of Adjunct Assistant Professor. Please feel free to comment, share, & ask any questions! This video is filmed in Concord, North Carolina so depending on where you are in the world, may not line up with how you do things for your horses (and that's OK). We hope you will get as much as we did from these conversations with Dr Taylor and look forward to sharing the rest of the series with you soon... This is our friend Laura's story (part 4)... She's a wife, mother, friend, PEMF practitioner, horsewoman, teacher, business owner and so much more! Laura was recently diagnosed with “invasive ductal carcinoma”... She was the first woman we talked to in this series, but this is the first time we are sharing her story with our subscribers (Though our Insta and FB followers did get a glimpse during our breast cancer awareness event). We first spoke with Laura just after she was diagnosed, and just circled back after her 2 surgeries and the start of her radiation, so she could share her journey so far with all of you. Please join in the conversation, feel free to ask questions if you have them, share this, subscribe to our YouTube channel and join us in praying for all that are battling this disease. We hope you are getting regular breast health checks and that you know your normal! It has been an honor to share these stories with you this month and we look forward to bringing you more of them next year, as we co-host the 2nd annual "Detect, Discuss & Defeat Breast Cancer" event at Leatherman Lane on September 17, 2022

This is Jenny's breast cancer story (broken into 5 parts for our pod cast listeners). With a strong history of cancer, she had done the routine mammograms for years. Thankfully they had always been clear, as was her last one... cut to 10 months later, with Jenny waking up to a painful "bouncy ball" sized lump in her breast, that turned out to be a very aggressive, rare combination of cancers. There is more to the story than that, but we will let you watch, listen, and join in the conversation to hear it... We will ad, as you will her in her story, that if Jenny had found this just a couple months later (per her oncologist) she would have been in a very different (inflammatory/emergency) situation. TIME MATTERS, so if you feel like something isn't right, get to your doctor and have it checked out sooner rather than later! We are so thankful that Jenny was willing to share her story with us and with all of you here. Please feel free to join in the conversation by asking questions & commenting, and by sharing these episodes! If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube channel now too! Full length episodes are available on this channel and we look forward to you being part of the conversation there.

This is Jenny's breast cancer story (broken into 5 parts for our pod cast listeners). With a strong history of cancer, she had done the routine mammograms for years. Today would have been my mom's birthday. She's been gone 33 years, which doesn't seem possible most days... Her death certificate lists "carcinoma of the breast" as cause of death at just 40 years old, after an 8+ year battle. If found in today's world, this would have been treatable and probably curable, but I guess there's no point going into "what ifs"... She is my why! The why behind these videos, behind my journey into motherhood, behind who I am and why I strive so hard to be the best wife, mother, and friend I can be! My friend Amber also had someone dear to her stolen by breast cancer. Her sister Lisa was only 28 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After learning of a recent mammogram scare for Amber, I invited her over to talk about it and learned the full story of the loss of her sister, which she graciously agreed to share with you here. This is our breast cancer story... or at least part of it! This is just a glimpse into what breast cancer does and how those left in its wake are affected. We hope you are doing everything in your power to prevent it, as early detection is the key to fighting this disease! This is our conversation with Toni, whose mouther was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago. Toni shares her story, how its effected her and made her more aware of her own health and why she chose to get an ultrasound now, rather than wait and follow her insurance company's direction. Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel to watch longer version of these episodes, and of course to see the beautiful horses that are with us when we film! Please know your normal & be your own advocate! Breast and ovarian cancers are killers and they don't care that your insurance company thinks it's fine for you to get a screening every other year (every 5 years in some cases). Jody received her first breast cancer diagnosis at 39. No insurance (and pre-affordable care act) she had to wait over a year to get a suspicious lump check out, which turned out to be breast cancer. After a double mastectomy, chemotherapy & radiation, Jody beat it! Sadly, the cancer came back just 4 years later. Though at the time, she was made to feel like she was being paranoid and forced to wait 6 more moths before anything was done. Jody was told at that time she was stage 4 and there wasn't much they could do other than make her comfortable. Thankfully, she sought a second opinion and the surgical oncologist at Chapel Hill had a different idea about her diagnosis. He successfully treated her cancer for a second time. This past June, Jody felt another weird lump in her lymph nodes, which has now been confirmed as stage 4 cancer. She is going through chemotherapy, and fighting as hard as anyone can, because in her words "my boobs are not going to kill me". She has 2 young daughters to fight for and a wonderful group of friends supporting her. We are honored to be among them after meeting her today and feel privileged to share her story with you. Please feel free to share this podcast (and our videos) & to join us in praying for a full recovery for Jody, as well as all those facing this dreadful disease! Welcome to a very special series of Candid Conversations! Throughout the month of October, we will be sharing conversations we've had with different women about breast cancer (and touching on the important topic of ovarian cancer, physical health, mental health, and other important issues that surround the focus of this series). The first conversation we are sharing with you is from our friend Megan Miller Reese. A breast cancer & ovarian cancer previvor who tested positive for the BRCA1 mutation in her early 30s and made the difficult decision to have a hysterectomy and double mastectomy. We hope it helps you, inspires you, gets you thinking and talking! This is the final 15 minutes of an over hour-long conversation (available on YouTube now). This will be shared here in 4 parts (with a little editing down to make it fit)and we hope you enjoy it! Please join the conversation by commenting below, sharing these with anyone you think they will help, liking the videos, following us on social media, and subscribing to our YouTube channel. Unlike our normal (weekly) format, and due to the number of conversations we have to share with you, these will be posted randomly throughout the month of October. We encourage you to click the subscribe button now, so you don't miss any of these episodes (new episodes will show up in your YouTube suggestions when you do)! Click the bell icon if you want to have a notification sent to you as new episodes are launched! To be involved in the 2nd annual "Detect, Discuss & Defeat Breast Cancer" event at Leatherman Lane on September 17, 2022, please send us an Email at LeathermanLane@Gmail.com We plan to help more women get the scans they need (because early detection is key & should be available to everyone). We are looking for donations, corporate sponsors, and items we can raffle & raise funds to help cover the cost of the scans! We will be partnering with Go Jen Go! again to help those fighting breast cancer in our area and plan to raise funds at this event with our Ride Jen Ride trail ride, silent auction, and raffle. We will have food trucks on site, live music, shopping, information, demonstrations, and more!! Mark your calendars, plan to attend, and reach out if you or someone you know can help!

October is breast cancer awareness month, and we are all about awareness here at Candid Conversations! So much so, that we decided to host a little trail ride and breast scan event at Leatherman Lane farm in Concord NC… This was just going to be a simple trail ride and some breast ultrasounds with HerScan when we came up with the idea a few weeks ago. However, after launching the event, everything changed! Several of our friends came forward as battling breast cancer NOW. Countless women expressed interest in getting a scan, but without the means to do so (no insurance, no job, or just not in the budget). So, as most little things at Leatherman Lane do, this event grew… Donors came forward to help those that couldn't otherwise afford a scan. We partnered with Go Jen Go to raise funds with our Ride Jen Ride trail ride, to help them help those battling this disease in our area. We opened the event up to vendors, invited food trucks, and even added an open mic performance! We got donations to raffle off to help pay for the breast scans and make a larger contribution to Go Jen Go! Our friends, neighbors, followers and more showed up on Saturday September 25th, 2021 to shop, eat, ride, sing, and share their story with the Candid Conversations web series and podcast crew. K-love Radio station filled our morning with inspirational music, and we kicked off the day with a little yoga in the round pen! This day was the first in what we have now decided will be an annual event here at Leatherman Lane… We are already planning next years event, which will take place on September 17, 2022. We are looking for donations for our raffle, corporate sponsors, vendors, performers, help from the media, and of course welcome any financial support to help us offer as many free and reduce costs scans as possible! This year, we were able to help 15 women who would have otherwise waited to check their breasts. The power of an ultrasound can increase the detection of breast cancer from approximately 48% to 97%, particularly in women with dense breasts. Ultrasound screenings are capable of detecting cancers that cannot be found by mammography and physical exams alone and we were so happy to be able to bring HerScan to Leatherman Lane to offer this important service! Throughout the month of October, we will be sharing conversations we've had about breast cancer, a well as clips from the 1st annual breast cancer awareness event at Leatherman Lane. We hope they inspire you, comfort you, maybe even change the way you think about this disease. We will be sharing these episodes randomly throughout October, and you won't want to miss even one! We can only share 15 minutes of the Episode on our Insta and podcast, so for the full episode please subscribe to our YouTube channel now! Please comment to join the conversation. Feel free to share these anywhere you would like and speaking of… don't forget to like them.
