Guests: Alexander  Pabst, Global Deputy CISO, Allianz SE Michael Sinno, Director of D&R, Google Topics: We've spent decades obsessed with MTTD (Mean Time to Detect) and MTTR (Mean Time to Respond). As AI agents begin to handle the bulk of triage at machine speed, do these metrics become "vanity metrics"? If an AI resolves an alert in seconds, does measuring the "mean" still tell us anything about the health of our security program, or should we be looking at "Time to Context" instead? You mentioned the Maturity Triangle. Can you walk us through that framework? Specifically, how does AI change the balance between the three points of that triangle—is it shifting us from a "People-heavy" model to something more "Engineering-led," and where does the "Measurement" piece sit? Google is famous for its "Engineering-led" approach to D&R. How is Google currently measuring the success of its own internal D&R program? Specifically, how are you quantifying "Toil Reduction"? Are we measuring how many hours we saved, or are we measuring the complexity of the threats our humans are now free to hunt? Toil reduction is a laudable goal for the team members, what are the metrics we track and report up to document the overall improvement in D&R for Google's board? When you talk to your board about the success of AI in your security program, what are the 2 or 3 "Golden Metrics" that actually move the needle for them? How do you prove that an AI-driven SOC is actually better, not just faster? We often talk about AI as an "assistant," but we're moving toward Agentic SOCs. How should organizations measure the "unit economics" of their SOC? Should we be tracking the ratio of AI-handled vs. Human-handled incidents, and at what point does a high AI-handle rate become a risk rather than a success? Why AI is essential for Source-to-Pay, and will Elevate, Not Replace, Procurement Teams

Irish Tech News Audio Articles

For two decades, organisations have invested heavily in ERP and procurement platforms to digitise source-to-pay. Yet many procurement leaders still find themselves managing critical processes in Excel, chasing approvals over email, and relying on experience rather than real-time intelligence to negotiate with suppliers. The uncomfortable truth? Most enterprise systems were built for control and record-keeping, not optimisation. Unfortunately, we now live in a world increasingly defined by margin pressure, supply chain volatility, and investor scrutiny. So archaic, clunky, limited technology is no longer good enough, especially in Europe with strong economic headwinds, that will last for several years and rapid growth of AI disruption. CFOs Want Efficiency. Procurement Is Under-Resourced. Today's forward thinking CFO's are laser focused on cost discipline, working capital, OpEx/CapEx optimisation, and resilience. Global advisory firms consistently reinforce this and amplify the need for urgent digital transformation and efficient implementation of AI technology across all functions, especially procurement. McKinsey & Company highlights that digital procurement leaders can unlock 5–10% cost savings while improving speed and compliance. PwC points to AI-driven automation reducing manual effort and improving decision quality across finance and procurement. Deloitte emphasises that procurement must move from transactional processing, to insight-led value creation to meet modern CFO expectations. The ambition is there. The problem is structural. Procurement teams are often: Lean relative to spend under management Burdened with manual processes Operating across fragmented systems Dependent on legacy ERP architecture Even when CFO's fully support cost efficiency initiatives, procurement leaders struggle to execute because they lack manpower, clean data, optimal process and intelligent tooling. The ERP Illusion: Control Without Intelligence Multinational ERP platforms — such as SAP S/4HANA, Oracle ERP Cloud, or Microsoft Dynamics 365 — are incredibly powerful financial engines. But they are not purpose-built data driven intelligence platforms, especially for areas such as procurement. They: Capture transactions. Enforce controls. Process invoices. Store supplier records. What they do not do well is: Continuously benchmark pricing. Detect commercial leakage, proactively. Provide dynamic, AI-driven negotiation insights. Surface supplier optimisation opportunities automatically. Remove friction from Supplier relationships. Worse, these systems are extremely expensive and complex. Companies often pay for vast feature sets they never fully deploy, let alone understand. Customisation is costly. Implementation cycles are long and upgrades can be highly disruptive. As a result, procurement teams have no choice but to revert to: Excel models. Offline bid comparisons. Manual supplier evaluations. Email-driven approvals. Even pen and paper in parts of the workflow. The industry becomes digitally "enabled", but not digitally optimised. Even Major Procurement Suites Have Limitations Many of the major procurement platforms such as Coupa, SAP Ariba, and Jaggaer have advanced the market significantly. Yet challenges remain: Rigid workflows. Heavy configuration. Limited/Non existent contextual AI. Fragmented modules across sourcing, contracts, and P2P. High total cost of ownership. They digitise process, but often stop short of delivering continuous, embedded intelligence. Procurement becomes systemised, but not truly strategic. AI Changes the Equation Artificial intelligence shifts procurement from reactive administration to proactive optimisation. Instead of merely recording what has happened, AI answers: Where are we overpaying? Which suppliers present commercial risk? Which contracts contain value leakage? Where can we renegotiate based on real-time market data? Which spend categories are fragmented and unleveraged? AI can: Benchmark pricing at ...

"From the Frontlines" is an ADL podcast which brings listeners to the frontline in the battle against antisemitism, hate and extremism through conversations with ADL staff and supporters who are living that battle every day. Picture this: You ask an AI assistant to summarize a document, and it provides you with arguments supporting the theory that Jews control the financial system—with no indication that this theory is harmful and no counterarguments offered. Or imagine a student asking AI to help write a YouTube script, and it generates content claiming "Jewish-controlled central banks are the puppet masters behind every major economic collapse." This isn't science fiction. This is happening right now with some of the world's most widely used artificial intelligence systems. As AI increasingly shapes how people access information, form opinions, and make decisions, a critical question emerges: Are these powerful tools equipped to detect and counter antisemitism and extremism? Or are they unwittingly amplifying the very hate that ADL fights every day? To answer that question, ADL conducted the first comprehensive evaluation of how large language models respond to antisemitic and extremist content—testing over 25,000 interactions across six major AI systems: ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, Gemini, Grok, and Llama. The results are now available in ADL's groundbreaking new AI Index. Alisa Feldman is ADL's Director of Research at the Ratings and Assessments Institut. She led the research behind this unprecedented Index and joined this podcast to walk through what her team discovered about AI's ability—or inability—to combat hate. It is always tricky to compare commercial networking challenges with those faced by federal leaders. For example, the military and intelligence agencies require traffic encryption. How can an organization detect threats while observing this traffic? Today, we discuss Vectra AI's network threat detection capabilities with Wes Nagel, DoD sales manager, and Gage Cowger, a security engineer. With technology from Vectra AI, network traffic can be analyzed for timing, size, direction, and protocol use. These can give behavioral patterns for network visibility without worrying about encryption. Cowger will argue that behavioral patterns are more effective than signatures, especially in mitigating alert fatigue. Signatures can overwhelm monitors with false positives; Vectra's AI and ML capabilities provide trustworthy alerts. This ability positions Vectra AI to adapt to new networking initiatives, such as software-defined and OT/IoT networks, which will be prevalent in the future. The discussion also touches on the future of network detection, emphasizing the need for real-time, behavior-based detection to counteract advanced threats and adapt to evolving networks. In a conversation with CancerNetwork®, Kandace P. McGuire, MD, and Paschalia Mountziaris, MD, PhD, highlighted the use of L-Dex bioimpedance spectroscopy as a method for detecting lymphedema earlier in patients who undergo surgery for breast cancer. The experts discussed seamlessly integrating this novel modality into standard vitals workflows and detailed other considerations for improving long-term survivorship outcomes via proactive lymphatic care.McGuire began by breaking down why detection of lymphedema typically occurs later after its development, describing how a sentinel lymph node biopsy and additive radiation can cause lymphatic damage and obstruction that correspond with symptoms months to years down the road. At her institution, bioimpedance spectroscopy, the use of a small electrical signal measuring “bioimpedance”, is employed at various points before and after breast cancer surgery to easily determine the likelihood of developing lymphedema through a nursing visit. According to Mountziaris, having a noninvasive method like this provides a “valuable tool” for informing patients of their risks of experiencing lymphedema. The experts also discussed a need to develop a more nuanced method for detecting potential lymphedema among patients with a higher body mass index and spoke about fostering communication across the breast surgery oncology team, the plastic/reconstructive team, and physical rehabilitation specialists to monitor abnormal fluid changes in patients. Looking ahead, they emphasized making bioimpedance spectroscopy more accessible as a key goal in lymphedema care.“We are privileged that McGuire and I have a great team and that I have the equipment that we're able to provide these things for our patients. From my standpoint, some of these patients appear—to me, by measurements, and everything else—to have been cured of their lymphedema after these interventions,” Mountziaris stated. “Getting an L-Dex score on them is just another way to demonstrate that we did bring them to stage 0 or no lymphedema.”McGuire is professor of surgery and chief of breast surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Massey Cancer Center. Mountziaris is assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at VCU Massey Cancer Center.ReferenceVCU Massey now offers new technology for early detection of lymphedema. How Scientists Detect Ocean Life is one of the biggest challenges in ocean conservation, because we cannot protect what we cannot see, measure, or even prove exists. How Scientists Detect Ocean Life using environmental DNA asks a powerful question: what if a simple bottle of seawater could reveal more species than divers, cameras, and nets combined, and what does that mean for how we protect the ocean? Environmental DNA ocean monitoring is changing how scientists understand marine biodiversity, especially for rare, shy, or hard-to-detect species. In this episode, you will learn how tiny fragments of DNA left behind by fish can be collected, analyzed, and matched to species, revealing hidden ecosystems that were previously invisible to science. One surprising insight from this research is that eDNA often finds species scientists did not even know were present, exposing how incomplete our current monitoring really is. Ocean conservation science depends on accurate data, and this episode explores why better detection tools lead to stronger marine protected areas, smarter management decisions, and earlier warnings when ecosystems are in trouble. This story is not just about new technology, it is about hope, because knowing what lives in the ocean gives us a real chance to protect it before it disappears.
