The gas lines had not been properly maintained or inspected by CPS Energy. The defense argued it was not a natural gas explosion, positing alternative theories. However, the jury sided with the plaintiffs, resulting in a $109.5 million verdict. Michael Lyons kicked off his three with a question many have wondered: "How do you stay so positive and upbeat?" The answer? It's a mix of surrounding myself with incredible people and cherishing the opportunities life throws my way. There are certainly tough days, but hanging out with inspiring individuals like Michael, Dan and Lee Cockerell, and countless others makes it all worth it. I can assure you, positivity isn't always easy, but it's the fuel for real growth and genuine happiness. Plus, remembering what my granny would do keeps me on my toes. Another question Michael asked is about the best piece of advice I'd ever received, it reminded me of the words passed down from Admiral Payne to Lee Cockrell to me: "Do your best and forgive yourself." Simple yet powerful words that can help us all move forward, even on our hardest days. Over the years I have learned the way to get the most genuine and impactful responses to questions, whether it is during a podcast or a conversation with a friend. It ultimately comes down to speaking off-the-cuff. This is your subtle reminder to trust your instincts and value authenticity over perfection. Thank you, Michael Lyons for such great questions. They reminded me that any time we find ourselves navigating tough times, it is important stay connected with the people who lift you up. Lean into those genuine conversations. The best way I can encourage you to stay positive in a sometimes challenging world is to keep engaging with those who inspire you. Your best days are ahead.

During our conversation we dive deep into his journey, from his Disney days to his blossoming writing career, and discuss his books Drawn to Greatness and Magic Moments. Notable takeaways from our conversation: Repurpose Your Work: Michael repurposed years of old interviews and articles to craft his acclaimed book Drawn to Greatness. It's a testament to the power of leveraging past work to create something new and impactful. Dedicate Time Like a Job: Treat writing your book like a part-time job, setting realistic and consistent time slots dedicated to writing. Consistency can turn daunting projects into achievable milestones. Embrace Diversions: While writing, it's important to stay flexible. Sometimes the unexpected diversions or inspirations can lead to new chapters or topics you hadn't initially considered. In this episode I sat down with Michael Lyons and we spoke about some pretty heavy topics in this episode. Most people would be familiar with the term PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, however Michael shared some insights into 'Moral Injury' that really made me think. If you wanted to learn more about this topic see link below: https://moralinjuryinternational.com/about-us That aside, as trivial as this might sound, I had never heard of the term '10 pound poms' so it was insightful to find out it only cost Michael 10 pounds to get to Australia (by plane I might add!) Michael and I also shared a lot of common experiences having both being involved in the automotive industry, however I found his story of getting into Pastoral care work to be really interesting. You all might have realised I enjoy talking about faith as a topic and this episode was fairly confronting to listen to Michael share his emotions at the loss of a son who was in his late 20's. I hope you enjoy the listen.

Michael was recognized by PharmaVoice Magazine as one of the top 100 most inspiring global leaders, and Pharmaceutical Executive Magazine also named him as one of the top emerging leaders in the world.KEY TAKEAWAYSTo have leadership, you need to have followership. And that doesn't mean that people report to you in an organization. It means that they'll follow you from organization to organizationWhether there's a reporting structure, dotted line, straight line, up, down, left, right, leadership is about taking the time to listen to your colleagues, making certain that they're okay, being empathetic, understanding their challenges, etc. Our job as leaders is to clear hurdles and have everyone operating at their very bestHave strong work ethic, treat people fair, remain humble, and focus on what's most important Vision and culture can never be just words on a page. It can never be the aspect where you forget about it, or you just say it at your quarterly business reviews. You need to hire against it. You need to onboard against it. You need to do merit evaluations against it. Because if that piece becomes compromised, then everything will fail

This is not our typical podcast so if that's what you're looking for you'll have to wait until next Tuesday morning. John went to the Appalachian Trainer Faceoff that is put on by The Heart of Phoenix Equine Rescue. In this event trainers from all over the country show up to the rescue farm and they choose through a drawing of sorts a horse that has not been handled. They then bring these horses home with them to train them for 100 days. During the process they have many meet ups and fun events like trail rides and camping out together that helps build bonds and friendships with other trainers and helps to get their horses ready to compete against each other for the title of ATFO champion. With two divisions (professional and amateur) and world class equestrians like Pat Roberts, Carl Bledsoe, Patrick King and Michael Lyons as the judges this is a serious competition between the trainers and still they all work together for the betterment of the horses involved. John was able to sit down with all 4 judges and numerous trainers including the two Champions, professional champion Patrick Sullivan and amateur champion Maribeth Harrell. Congrats to both of you on your much deserved wins this year! Sit back and listen to what big things are happening in the heart of Appalachia for horses in need. Patrick Hughes is the co-founder of Patriots Law Group, a law firm he started with his friend and former active duty Air Force JAG colleague, Michael Lyons. Pat served nearly seven years on active duty, and then transferred to the Reserve as he formed Patriots Law Group in 2017. He started as a prosecutor and his next assignment was as a defense counsel, where he was ranked the #1 of 84 area defense counsel globally. In his final assignment on active duty, he shifted his focus to civil litigation, and defended the Air Force in federal courts pertaining to matters involving, among other things, military pay disputes. There, he represented the Air Force in lawsuits brought by servicemembers involving claims where the military had unlawfully denied entitlements. Many of these cases involved claims of six or seven figure money demands and multiple class-action lawsuits. These cases were usually filed after a servicemember sought relief through the Board for Corrections of Military Records but was denied. Pat also defended the Air Force against federal civilian employees who brought discrimination claims before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and when challenging their adverse personnel actions before the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB). In his private practice, Pat now represents servicemembers, primarily in the civil realm, including administrative claims brought in the boards for corrections of each military department, claims for military pay brought in the Court of Federal Claims or claims taken up in Federal District Courts. https://www.patriotslawgroup.com/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ferah-ozbek/message
