In this episode of The Best of LKN Podcast, Jeff sits down with Audrey Pennell and Tim Hyde, co-founders of Surf Wake Ski, a new Lake Norman business launching for summer 2026. Both North Carolina natives who met working at a Mooresville boat dealership and bonded over years spent at a Pennsylvania summer camp, Audrey and Tim share how they turned a shared love of the water into a venture aimed at getting more people on the lake. They walk through their full lineup of offerings – kids' summer camps with flexible morning, midday, and afternoon sessions; private lessons and charters on Fridays and Saturdays; after-work evening events and game nights; and boat driving lessons rooted in a strong emphasis on safety. The conversation also covers their partnership with Race City and their boat slip at Holiday Marina near Hello Sailor, their plans for orientation cruises for newcomers to the area, a Bible study night on the water with proceeds benefiting a kids' summer camp, and their commitment to staying closed on Sundays. Don't miss their launch event at The Boatyard on Saturday, June 6th. In this episode, Jeff sits down with Dr. Jonathan Leake, board-certified emergency medicine physician and co-founder of Hydrate Medical, an IV hydration and wellness practice with eight locations across the Carolinas, including Mooresville and Huntersville. Dr. Leake shares how his ER background and a memorable stomach-bug outbreak inspired him and business partner Keith to create a physician-owned alternative to pricey hospital visits – delivering safe, evidence-based IV treatments in a comfortable, relaxing setting. The conversation covers what really drives clients to Hydrate Medical (hint: it's mostly wellness, not hangovers), the science behind hydration and vitamin infusions, common misconceptions about IV therapy, how to choose a reputable provider, and the practice's new Performance & Longevity program featuring NAD+, ALA, and NAC. Whether you're battling fatigue and burnout or chasing peak athletic recovery, this episode is a thoughtful primer on how strategic hydration can become part of your health routine.Hydrate MedicalThe Best of LKNhttps://thebestoflkn.com/Hosted by:Jeff Hammhttps://lknreal.com/Powered by:https://aidawerks.com/Support the show

This week in our first segment … I sat down with Jeffrey Baker in our studio at the Universal Technical Institute in Mooresville … actually … back a few months ago. If you've been wondering WHY we asked Jeffrey to join our little family as one of our co-hosts, our conversation during that interview IS WHY. You're going to hear stories you've NEVER heard before … told in a way that you've never heard before. From getting an ultimatum about his involvement in the sport from a soon-to-be FORMER girlfriend to a Bobby Hamilton caper that you've got to hear to believe … Jeffrey brings the heat. Then in our second segment, we'll dig into the November 19, 1987 issue of Grand National Scene. The cover story in this issue is about the private planes that were coming into vogue at the time, so we did into the recorded archive to share stories about competitors and their planes. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Get your Hosea Scripture Journal now. Our shout-out today goes to Jeffrey Nelson from Mooresville, NC. Thanks for your partnership in Project23. Our text today is Hosea 1:3. So he went and took Gomer, the daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son. — Hosea 1:3 Hosea doesn't argue. He doesn't delay. He doesn't negotiate the terms. He simply obeys. "So he went and took Gomer…" That short phrase reveals something powerful about Hosea's character. When God spoke, Hosea acted. Even though the assignment was painful. Even though it would affect his reputation. Even though the cost would follow him for years. Hosea marries Gomer, the woman God told him to take as his wife. And just like that, the prophet's life becomes the message. The marriage itself would be difficult, but God was revealing something deeper through it. Hosea's faithful love for an unfaithful wife would mirror God's covenant love for a people who continually turned away from him. Throughout the Bible, marriage often reflects the covenant relationship between God and his people. The prophets described Israel as God's bride. Later, the New Testament describes the church as the bride of Christ. Marriage is meant to reflect covenant faithfulness. That's why Israel's idolatry was so serious. It wasn't just disobedience—it was betrayal. The people who belonged to God were giving their hearts to other gods. Hosea's obedience allowed the nation to see this truth in a way they could not ignore. Sometimes God asks his people to obey in ways that stretch their comfort and challenge their understanding. Obedience may cost time, reputation, relationships, or personal plans. But faithful obedience always begins the same way. God speaks. And we respond. So today, consider this: is there an area where God has already made his will clear, but hesitation or fear has kept you from acting? Faith grows when obedience moves from intention to action. Take one step today toward doing what you already know God has called you to do. DO THIS: Identify one clear step of obedience God has already placed in front of you—and take that step today without delay. ASK THIS: Where in your life might God be asking for obedience right now? What fears or concerns sometimes keep you from acting on what God has already made clear? How might your obedience influence the people around you? PRAY THIS: Father, give me the courage to obey you even when obedience feels costly or uncomfortable. Help my life reflect faithfulness to you. Amen. PLAY THIS: "Trust and Obey"

This week on Bless Your ‘Hardt, Amy's birthday celebration did not exactly go according to plan, and somehow it involved two carrot cakes, a mystery bundt cake, and a situation where Dale may or may not have taken someone else's cake. Amy and Dale recap her birthday, including dinner at Epic in downtown Mooresville, along with a special birthday drink presented by High Rock Vodka, a funny debate about old school cars versus today's safety features, and why self-driving cars are a hard pass. Plus, Dale shares stories from his Key West trip, including a bar shot that involves getting smacked, and things spiral into conversations about color analysis, closet chaos, and why he refuses to throw anything away. The episode wraps with a chaotic round of Family Feud and Ask Amy, where they give advice on meeting the parents and talk about what age they would go back to if they could. 00:00 Welcome to the program on this nasty, yucky, stormy Monday. I tell you what, uh we didn't get much of the house today. We got about 30, 45 seconds, maybe of some strong winds as this thing came through. Other places got a lot worse, so we hardly got anything at all. um We did hear about uh one business in Gaffney. 00:30 apparently lost their roof. Somebody was talking about today how they think they had a tornado at their house and I don't believe that's what it was. Of course, that'll all have to be verified by the National Weather Service and all of that stuff. NOAA. But a lot of people will sometimes mistake straight line wind damage with rotational wind damage and those two are different things. 01:00 It could have been a lot worse. mean, they were expecting some bad stuff. They've still got some warnings going on down in Charleston. We had friends up in Mooresville. They lost power. And they were like, we lost power and we get ready to go on a trip. And I'm like, man, that stinks. somebody's telling you not to go on a trip? How many signs do you need not to go on that trip? 01:27 When a storm comes and you're getting ready and all the power goes out, might not want to go. But anyway, looks pretty good here in the upstate. Thankfully, thankfully so. But now it's going to bring in cold weather, right? And what I think Wednesday night and Thursday, going to get down to 27, something like that? It's going to be unbelievable, 32 tonight. So I got to go out and I got to turn the spigots off or the one spigot that I have on at my house. 01:57 Don't want that thing to freeze. Wouldn't that be awful in the springtime? 02:02 You get a frozen pipe in a bus, that would be absolutely horrible. what else we got going on in the world today? Of course, we've got Operation Epic Fury. We'll talk a little bit more about that in the Gulf of Hormuz. um That is still not open. A lot of people are wondering, a lot of people are wondering what the plan was. Some people are thinking there wasn't even a plan. I will guarantee you there was some sort of a plan. what President Trump, and this is kind of smart, you see, because at this point, 02:33 None of these other countries have any skin in the game. 02:37 And all of these countries depend on that oil going through the Gulf of Hormuz. But they're not offering any assistance, especially people like France, you know, the folks in the European Union. What Trump is trying to do is trying to make these folks pony up because then they will have a vested interest in making sure that the strait, did I say the Gulf, was the Strait of Hormuz, is absolutely safe and secure. They got to get in on this. 03:07 They're going to be the ones benefiting from it. They need to be the ones that are helping out in patrolling it and making sure that it's safe, right? Absolutely. Well, so we got Operation Epic Fury. We got the Strait of Hormuz. Don't know if you heard about what went on in Ecuador. Apparently, the government of Ecuador um came to the United States and they said, we need some help with our cartels. 03:37 Kind of in the middle of all of this stuff going on in the Middle East, we sent a couple of bombers over there to Ecuador and we took out some cartel members and now they're like, we love you guys. And they're raising the American flag over the embassy there in Ecuador for the first time in decades. So that was pretty cool. So then we got that. And then what else we got going on? Of course, we had Venezuela. That happened with Maduro. And now 04:07 Cuba might be the next to fall because apparently Cuba is having some pretty serious problems today. And breaking news into CNN. Cuba's electrical grid has suffered a complete and total collapse. This is according to the country's power operator. It's the first nationwide blackout since the US effectively shut off the flow of oil to Cuba. And now. 04:36 they have got a full blown collapse over there in Cuba. But, but, but, ...

On June 9, 2009, Angela Stewart pounded on her neighbor, Mark's, door at around 12:40 AM in Mooresville, North Carolina. They lived in a quiet, suburban neighborhood so getting a panicked knock in the middle of the night was very out of the ordinary. Mark was shocked when he opened the door and saw Angela and her one year old son covered in blood. Logan Sandate rejoins the podcast to share what's happened since her first appearance last summer. Girl Power Carolinas Flag Football launched its inaugural season in Mooresville with over 80 girls, wrapped up an eight-week fall run complete with Super Bowl rings and weekly core value awards, and has already expanded into Fort Mill, South Carolina. A Banner Elk league is on the way this summer through a partnership with Lees-McRae College coach Mike Brown. Logan has also taken on a new role as Director of Development at The Carolina Factory in Cornelius, where she's helping connect the facility's growing lineup of offerings including a brand-new girls AAU basketball team.Across everything she's building, Logan's focus remains the same: creating environments where girls can fall in love with sport without the pressure and burnout that come with early-age competitive pipelines. In 2026, she's prioritizing depth over expansion — doubling down on her Lake Norman and Fort Mill families to make sure the quality of the experience stays high. The gang's back together — Jordan Centry, Jonathan Williams, and Jason Allen King — with rum, coke (a lot of coke), and big 2026 energy. We open with an important announcement: Three's Comedy Tour hits the Cain Center for the Arts in Cornelius, NC on March 10. If you're in Charlotte, Huntersville, Mooresville, or anywhere nearby, grab tickets now at cainarts.org. Then we get into awards season chaos, including the indie horror film “Good Boy” — shot from a dog's perspective — and the question nobody expected to debate: Can a dog be a great actor? (And does this open the door for more dog-led horror films?) From there, the conversation turns into a love letter to craft: acting choices, career pivots, and why certain performers (Michael B. Jordan, Timothée Chalamet, Idris Elba, Anne Hathaway, Matthew McConaughey, and more) hit different when they're locked in. In the second half, we show love to the Charlotte comedy scene, shout out both clubs (The Comedy Zone + Duckworth's) and talk about what it means to get “passed” — plus why that kind of recognition matters for building a real comedy culture in the city. Finally, we set 2026 goals for each other (with equal parts encouragement and roasting), and close with a Would You Rather that turns into a full-on morality debate: Generational wealth… or a portal gun that lets you travel the multiverse? Happy Thanksgiving, everyone, and welcome back to Stories from the River. As we conclude the Grand Reopening Celebration Series from last month's Mooresville, North Carolina, Ashley Store, we turn to Manny Rodrigues and his guest for the day, Sandy Ruhlin, Broad River's Home Furnishings Expert and Million Dollar Memory Maker. Ruhlin was around to remember how the store looked years before the remodel, and even though the team at The Lake never stopped winning, she welcomes this new Ashley 7.0 redesign with excitement and joy. The conversation focuses on the impact these new changes have on the showroom's appearance, both agreeing that the improved lighting and polished concrete floor make a huge difference in how the showroom feels and how it's received by the guests. Ruhlin shares her journey from working in commercial design and architecture in the Chicago area to moving to the Carolinas and finding herself at Broad River. The eye for beauty and design never left her, and she loves helping guests furnish their life's best memories. The two touch on the new sleep gallery, which streamlines the mattress selection process and showcases the diverse offerings for every guest. As you already know, every mattress sold leads to a Beds for Kids donation, which works on ensuring all children have a bed to sleep on. The team at The Lake prides itself on the new mattress gallery and all the good it will be able to achieve with it. Welcome back to Stories from the River! We are continuing our recap series from the Grand Reopening Celebration of our latest Ashley Store 7.0 transformation in Mooresville, North Carolina. In today's episode, CEO Charlie Malouf sits down with Mooresville General Manager Nathan Jeter to discuss the remodel experience and results from the reimagined Lake Norman store, The Lake. The Mooresville Ashley store has been around for over 17 years, and its success was never questionned. Nathan Jeter and his winning team have stood out in the Company. However, this fall, the team at The Lake welcomed a long-awaited remodel of their beloved store to the Ashley 7.0 model. Expanding the Sleep Shop to twice its size and reinventing the showroom with the fresh 7.0 design will only help this team reach new heights in the coming season. In today's interview conducted in the showroom following the ribbon cutting held last month on October 7th, we get an insight into what Nathan and his team think about the brand new remodel. The conversation explores the journey leading up to the ribbon cutting, and they reminisce about the seventeen years since the store first opened, its journey to where it is now and the various wonderful Memory Makers who got it to this moment. Jeter particularly reflects on the instrumental impact that Renee Bradley has had on the store and how helpful Tim Sayles was during the construction process. In a surprising move, the Mooresville store managed to win Store of the Month, the presigious Yoda award, twice amidst the construction. Jeter credits this to his team of Memory Makers. He remarks that the team's resilient mindest, strategic planning, and the support of both long-term Memory Makers as well as some newcomers help make the Mooresville store the award-winning location. Stayed tuned for other conversations from this event as the stories will highlight Mooresville Memory Makers and their strength, resilience and ability to thrive during chaos.
