When our kids begin life after high school, there are many paths they can take. Description: Did you know that 93% of Americans believe that high school students should be required to take a course in financial education, but only 4 US states require students to take a semester long course on personal finance. And spoiler alert, one of those 4 is not Idaho. This means that's that this responsibility falls on parents. The good news is that you can help your children start learning about finances early. This episode is about how to introduce a really important topic, money, to your kids and who better to learn from than a mom of 7 who is actively teaching her kids these lessons now! On this episode, Cindy shares about how her addiction to drugs affected her life, specifically her finances, and how she works on her recovery and helps others. Did you know among Americans aged 12 years and older, 31.9 million are current illegal drug users (used within the last 30 days)? 14.8 million or 10.6% of them have an alcohol use disorder. The costs of these addictions can greatly affect a person's financial well-being. To put this into perspective, if you drink a cheap $5 6-pack of beer every day, that's $150 each month. That's almost $1,000 in 6 months to support this habit. Now switch out the $5 beer to a more expensive drug like, cocaine or heroin and the cost skyrockets. Some people can easily spend more than $10,000 each year to support their addiction.
