And just like that, Canada are Olympic gold medal champions. Wow. Just ... wow. It's not like us to have trouble finding words, and yet. This episode was tough for us to do justice. Beating the USA for the first time in 20 years. Winning Olympic gold in a nerve-wracking and challenging final. Our final episode. These are all such Big Deals for us. But, like always, we we sat down and started talking about what we love—the Canadian women's national team. We admit, it feels like absolute poetry we had the privilege of ending on this glorious high note. In this episode, we talk about: - the semi-final match vs. USA - the final gold medal match vs. Sweden - what we hope for the future of this team and this sport - and finally, we make a call to action to anyone who loves this game and feels like they have something to share; your voice is no smaller than ours so if you've been thinking about sitting down in front of a podcasting microphone (not even a very good one, ours was terrible for the first few years) our advice is to just do it. In Jess's words, "I can't even say how much I love this team." After coming second in Group E following a draw with Great Britain, Canada opposed Brazil in the quarter-finals and will advance to the semi-finals following a dramatic win in penalty kicks. In this episode we talk about the matches vs. Great Britain and Brazil in an attempt to process all our emotions. We also talk about our upcoming semi-final match vs. USA and Canada's chances to take a medal in the finals. For Kicks is a proud member of the Alberta Podcast Network. Locally grown. So far Canada is sitting second in Group E after two matches against Japan and Chile as the 2021 Olympics got started in Tokyo this last week. In this episode, we discuss both matches, including the starting XI and substitutes, what we liked, what we didn't like, and all the dramatics that come along with an Olympics soccer tournament. We also looked ahead to what it's going to take to beat our next opponent, Great Britain, to ensure Canada comes out on top of the group before heading to the quarter finals.
