We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, Canadian Premier League, and Canadian national team chat. The first part of the MLS season wound up this weekend with the last round of matches ahead of the World Cup break. The Whitecaps finished strong, dispatching San Diego 4-2 in a dominant performance that sees them go into their eight weeks off atop the Western Conference. We delve into the main talking points from that match and review the highs and lows of the season so far, both for the 'Caps and across MLS. Plus we chat with head coach Jesper Sorensen about what he's made of the season to date and whether he's looking to strengthen the side in the upcoming transfer window. It was another busy week in Whitecapsland, both on and off the pitch. We bring you the latest updates in the battle to #SaveTheCaps and keep them in Vancouver. A week of meetings and statements may not have produced any concrete solutions yet in terms of a new stadium and new owners of the club, but there are a lot of positive signs and we unpack what we can from it all. On the pitch, the 'Caps were busy with two games in Texas and while it was a mixed set of results with a win in Dallas and a loss in Houston, they head in to the last game before the World Cup break back on the top of the MLS Western Conference. We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, and Canadian Premier League chat after an emotional, draining, and anger-inducing week in Whitecapsland. The feelgood factor from just a week ago went quickly missing in Vancouver as news broke, and continued to break as the week wore on, that a group had put a bid in for the Whitecaps with the aim of moving the team to Las Vegas. It was a fast-moving news cycle with both a lot and a little said by both sides and very few glimmers of hope for the 'Caps faithful it felt at times. So how did we get here? What do we know, what do we not, what's next, and how you can help? We delve into all of that, the main bullet points from the week, and hear from Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim. It may feel grim, but there is some light at the end of the long, dark tunnel. On the pitch, the Whitecaps dominated the LA Galaxy for much of their match on Saturday, but struggled to break down the home side's lines before recovering from a defensive mishap to salvage a vital road point. We pick over the main talking points coming out of that one and we round up the weekend action across MLS and the CPL. All of this plus we move onto the letter S in our Canadian Soccer A to Z series, music-wise, Mansun kick off their residency as our Artists of the Month, McCarthy are the latest band to feature in our 40th anniversary tribute year to the C86 movement, and we've got another new Scotland World Cup song in Wavelength. Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast! In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to dive into all things Vancouver Whitecaps and all other happenings related to soccer in British Columbia. To begin, they take a look at how the Whitecaps have done as of late, as they've done well to recover from a frustrating loss to the San Jose Earthquakes in MLS play by picking up two important victories against the Portland Timbers and New York City FC. Now, the Whitecaps currently sit top of MLS's Supporters' Shield standings - and they arguably haven't even played their best football yet, even if the advanced numbers suggest that they've been one of the best teams in MLS so far this year. Because of that, Alex and Sam share what they think this team could still be better at, while looking at what has worked so well for them so far. Lastly, they take a look at what's ahead for the Whitecaps, who will take on Sporting Kansas City in their next matchup, before potentially welcoming back some key players from injury in the weeks afterwards. To round off the show, they then chat about other local soccer happenings, as the Canadian Premier League is back, as is the BC Premier League, while the Northern Super League isn't far away from starting, either. Make sure to check out The Third Sub Podcast on Twitter, @thirdsubpod, as well as on Instagram, @the3rdsub_.

It was a tough Friday night under the lights for the Whitecaps, falling 3-0 to MLS basement team LA Galaxy. What went wrong and is there genuine cause for concern or is this just down to the weakened squad from international duty and injuries? We delve into all of that and chat with the returning winger Jayden Nelson about his Gold Cup experiences with Canada, forward Nelson Pierre about signing his first team deal, and young Canadian Antoine Coupland about his MLS minutes, his first MLS goal, and his hopes for the future. Toronto FC fans were given a Canada Day gift by MLSE when they announced the release of Italian Designated Players Lorzeno Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi. We chat about how much of a bust they were in the grand scheme of things and talk Whitecaps DPs. Who have been the best and the worst DPs to pull on a blue and white jersey in Vancouver? Plus there's still time to talk about the Gold Cup final, the FIFA Club World Cup, Vancouver FC's loss to Forge in CPL action, and hear from Valour FC head coach Philip Dos Santos about his side's big quarter-final second leg coming up against the Whitecaps. All of this, and music-wise, Frank Black continues his residency as our Album of the Month, we've Britpop songs from Supergrass and Cast, and we pay tribute to Diogo Jota in Wavelength.
