Jack Wilshere.

In this episode, former Socceroo Gary Cole speaks with Tom Sermanni. Sermanni's success speaks for itself. He has been to five FIFA Women's World Cups: three with the Matildas (1995, 2007 and 2011), one with Canada as an assistant coach (2015) and the fifth with New Zealand in France (2019). He has won the Algarve Cup (2013) with the USA, the Asian Cup with the Matildas (2010), he was also named AFC Coach of the Year (2007). He now has his sights set on taking New Zealand's Football Ferns to the delayed 2020 Olympic Games. Tom has a Pro Licence and a Diploma in Education. He has coached at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), in the now defunct Australian National Soccer League, and in the J-League with Sanfrecce. Along this incredible journey, Tom has coached players of all ages and genders, and it would be fair to say they have all left his tutelage a little wiser than when they started. He is a warm, kind, and compassionate coach which comes out in this candid conversation with Gary.
Todays episode features Nicole Barnhart who is an American soccer goalkeeper, and a two-time Olympic gold medalist who currently plays for Utah Royals FC in the National Women's Soccer League. She played for the FC Gold Pride and the Philadelphia Independence in Women's Professional Soccer, and is a goalkeeper of the United States national team. She competed in qualifying matches for 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup, 2011 Four Nations Tournament and 2011 Algarve Cup.

It has been a busy few weeks since the last podcast as JJ and Kieran take a look back at the SheBelieves Cup, Algarve Cup and Cyprus Cup. The gang is mostly here and completely remote for this one as they cover the home opener against Columbus, look ahead to Tigres, talk Algarve Cup and the #CanWNT and the usual silliness. The off-season is officially over and we’ve got real and meaningful matches to discuss. We’ve got a lot to say about Orlando City’s opening 1-1 draw against D.C. United — penalty saves, red cards, video review, last-ditch tackles, and one very special tying goal. Plus, our pick is unanimous for Man of the Match. We also touched on the Pride re-signing Alanna Kennedy, Orlando players in the Algarve Cup, and those unsung trialists for the NWSL squad. But you don’t just have to listen to us talk about the game. We’ve got Orlando City rookie forward Chris Mueller along and he’ll tell you the advice he got about his first pro game, which players inspired him, and how he and Cam Lindley picked the song they had to sing before the team dinner. You won’t want to miss this interview. The final segment includes our key match-ups and score predictions (sure to be wrong), a preview of the SheBelieves Cup in Orlando, and our answers to listener questions in our Ask The Mane Land PawedCast mailbag. If there’s something you want us to address on our next show, just tweet it to us @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Here’s how No. 115 evolved: 0:12- It was a weird, wild home opener for Orlando City and a lot happened. We discuss that and how Justin Meram is really good at soccer. 45:44- Chris Mueller talks about his first professional start, how he critiqued his performance, the team’s attitude, and more. 1:02:14- The #AskTMLPC mailbag runneth over this week, plus our preview of the SheBelieves Cup finale and our key match-ups and score predictions for the Lions vs. Minnesota. Kieran and JJ are reunited after a few weeks apart and have plenty of women's football to get through on the podcast. With the She Believes Cup, Cyprus Cup and Algarve Cup all taking place recently, the duo discuss the main talking points. Kieran gives a brief overview of the English FA's new three-year strategy for women's football, while we conclude with an interview with former NWSL midfielder, Becky Edwards. Edwards, who announced her retirement in September, is back playing in Sweden with former club, Kristianstads.
In this episode we talk about: CANWNT news, the Algarve Cup, including our chat with Janine (there is an echo on our chat with Janine so if it's too much for your ears you can skip from 30:45 - 42:17 to avoid some echo in your ear), Canada Soccer, and the weather, because we're that Canadian (spoiler: snow in Edmonton!)
The off-season is just about over and, as such, this is our final monthly installment of the Mane Land PawedCast. That’s right, regular weekly service resumes the first week of March. And what a close to the off-season we’ve got for you. New Lions defender Donny Toia makes his PawedCast debut. Toia was kind enough to answer my questions about how he found out he was heading to Orlando City, what it takes to settle into a new team, playing right back vs. left back, and much more. Donny was gracious with his responses and this is an interview you won’t want to miss. We also discuss just how much the preseason matters, the injury issues Orlando City faces at right back, the Pride season openers and players involved in the SheBelieves and Algarve Cup competitions, Tommy Redding’s work with the U.S. U-20s, and a host of other topics, many of which survived a technical gremlin that crept into the closing stages of the first segment. Here’s how the show shook out: 0:12- Does preseason matter? What kind of depth can we expect on opening day? What about the team’s shape? These questions were wrestled with before the technical issue. 15:48- Donny Toia jumps in and accepts a little good-natured ribbing about scoring his 2015 goal against Orlando City. He also answered every question we threw at him. 32:30- Pride news, OCB, the USWNT, the U.S. U-20 team, and a rundown of important upcoming dates. And that’s another show. The Young Gaffers | An irreverent look at The Beautiful Game
Wherein Our Heroes break bread over Newcastle's act of faith with Benitez, Canada's Algarve Cup win, and the talismanic difference at Leicester. Hazard's shirt swap draws ire as two of England's most high-and-mighty go crashing out of the FA Cup. Will Arsene Wenger be made to don sackcloth and ashes for Arsenal's recent run of form? Canada's MLS matches are reviewed and Haircut of The Week is resurrected with a celebration of Dom Dwyer's locks (Jason gives the devil his ‘do'). Soccer Talk with Tyler Green and Simon Fudge is back for the March 11th edition - presented by Metrotown Orthopedic & Sports Physiotherapy, as they broadcast from the Barber and Co. studios. On this episode, Tyler and Simon discuss Whitecaps FC’s opening day defeat to Canadian rivals Montreal Impact at BC Place and if there is any need for concern, as Carl Robinson’s side head to the American Midwest to face Sporting Kansas City on Saturday. Tyler and Simon give their thoughts on Thursday’s news that ‘Caps midfielder Christian Bolanos will miss this weekend’s game through suspension. Week One in MLS provided some high-scoring results and entertaining action. Tyler and Simon give their thoughts on which teams and players stood during First Kick Sunday. There is Canadian national team news. Will BC Place be a sell-out for the men’s team’s big World Cup qualifier versus Mexico on March 25? Is a summer friendly against Azerbaijan in Austria a good tune-up match for Benito Floro’s side? The women became Algarve Cup champions in Portugal this week. Will this translate into John Herdman’s side returning to the Olympic podium this summer? We also hear from Metrotown Physio’s Marc Rizzardo, who discusses the issues of playing on turf following Didier Drogba’s no-show in Vancouver last weekend. All that and more on the March 11th version of Soccer Talk! More info about Soccer Talk on Facebook! And visit our friends at Find a Property and at Tenth and Proper.
The Filibuster crew is back yet again, and without a D.C. United game this weekend we talk about other news surrounding United and soccer in America. We talk about the labor peace agreement signed between the team and UNITE HERE Local 25, and what that might tell us about the stadium progress overall. We talk about Dave Kasper's extension and title enhancement, including dicussing a possible conspiracy theory about the title. We then talk about the USWNT's win in the Algarve Cup and the upcoming Gold Cup for the USMNT. Finally, we briefly talk about the four players that United might send down to the Richmond Kickers (but Ben misses an obvious one). We then bring on Jason Iapicco from Once A Metro and the Red Bull Rant to preview this weekend's game against the New York/New Jersey MetroStars. We ask him what is going on with this brand new team, the revamped midfield with Sascha Kljestan and Felipe, the two new center backs, and the left wing situation and whether Jesse Marsch will change formation. We then have to talk about Red Bull as owners and the Mike Petke situation, and we end by asking how the Red Bulls will play against United and how United should play against them. Give it a listen!

A new Filibuster is ready to be heard by you! No, we don't record the whole episode in the passive voice, but we sure do try. Ben, Adam, Jason, and Leanne are back to talk about the two most recent D.C. United games, both of which were wins. We take the second leg against LD Alajuelense and the first game against the Montreal Impact together, and talk about the performances of Jairo Arrieta and Chris Ponitus, the play of Chris Korb, how we will kinda like Conor Doyle (especially at his age and price point), and about how dirty Miguel Aguilar is. We then talk about the United States women's national team and their current performance in the Algarve Cup in Portugal. We talk about what the heck Jill Ellis is doing, whether Ellis or Jurgen Klinsmann are a more baffling coach, and whether or not this summer's World Cup will be rough for the US women. We then dip into the Twitterbox and take two player comparison questions. We answer whether Nick DeLeon will be replaced by Miguel Aguilar, and when Markus Halsti will come and take Davy Arnaud's spot. We end the show talking about hair, headbands, mullets, and more, so you know it's a good show. GIve it a listen!
This week: Three matches! Edward and Wes bust through a busy period in English soccer, break news of the MLS CBA deal, and update the USWNT in the Algarve Cup. The guys also welcome back Major League Baseball, become disgusted at Adam Johnson and Duke administrators, and have a comedic So Raw. Katana!
