Building Spiritual Competence from the Word of God, with Pastor Paul Sabourin
Every word that Jesus spoke was an invitation to His kingdom. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Religious thinking is the theft of the glory of God. It will REPEL people, not invite them to receive it. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The invitation of our Father is ongoing, not one and done. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
We are made to manifest the power of God. The desire to be powerful is a HOLY desire. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The Spirit moves in an atmosphere of belief. Fear inspires the welcoming of idols. Complaining is the fruit of unbelief. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The fire of Grace can be pretty painful, but it is the living power of God to transform us into the carriers of the Kingdom. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
God gives you Truth for yourself, not to apply to others. Truth only holds the power for freedom when it's acting on YOU. He gives us Truth because he is ever preparing His bride. He is making us into people who can hold greater and greater weights of His anointing. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
There's no such thing as being called by Jesus and without being called to a high calling... It's not for you though. It's for the profit of everybody else. The joy of participation, THAT's for you.Scripture this week:1 Corinthians 10:1-13:13Luke 4:20-22. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The calling of the Lord is that we host two things: the Presence of God, and the sacred presence of OTHERS.Scripture this week:John 6:51-68Romans 11:29, 12:9-131 Kings 18:18-19:18 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
You are your own worst Pharisee. The message of the cross is this: if you bring your worst, and dare to meet Him in the scary, inward place, He will meet you there with compassion, kindness, and grace. Your anointing is in that place, and Jesus made it safe.Scripture this week:1 Corinthians 1:18-23Matthew 16:24, 11:28John 7:37-39Romans 2:25-29John 4:6-24Luke 11:37-521 John 3:2-3 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Jesus's ministry is your ministry. His anointing is your anointing. But His cross is NOT your cross. Accepting your own cross is the doorway to anointing... So what IS your cross??Scripture this week:1 Corinthians 1:18-21Matthew 16:21-27Luke 14:25-27, 17:20-21John10:7-10Galatians 5:1-5 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The Lord speaks in many ways but for only one reason. The Lord ONLY speaks to you because He LOVES you.Scripture this week:John 21:1-141 Corinthians 2:1-15Romans 10:17John 6:1-9, 20:25-29Luke 17:20-21 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
There are levels to this faith thing. Our faith is deepened by hearing, and we hear by the Rhema word of God which speaks to the deepest longing of the human heart. The deepest faith is the absolute assurance of your identity as His beloved.Scripture this week:Romans 10:17Mark 6:30-45Matthew 14:22-36John 10:3-4Luke 9:10-20 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Our God is a consuming fire. As the people of the ACTUAL presence of God, we play with fire. When we pray for a greater anointing on His church, we should be EXPECTING fire. There are casualties. There are temptations to be distracted by the losses in those hard places, but we shouldn't mourn the effects of the Lord's fire. Scripture this week:Hebrews 12:25-291 Chronicles 24:1-3Numbers 3:1-4Leviticus 9:22-24, 10:1-72 Corinthians 4:7-12 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The only way we completely swing open the doors of anointing is to see His glory with such vivid clarity that everything else is irrelevant. We can't witness to people "on the other side" if we make enemies of them.Scripture this week:Galations 6:7-10Exodus 33:12-23Numbers 6:22Matthew 5:1-10Luke 18:1-8Acts 9:1-9, 22:6-23:5, 26:1-18 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
We seek a mysterious person, not a mysterious power. His presence is not a comforting, peaceful thing when we are not in submission to Him and His government. In the government of His kingdom, the way we transform into a place that can receive anointing is by choosing submission when He gives us the opportunity.Scripture this week:1 Samuel 15:10-28Psalm 16:5-12 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Do you want powerful, ever increasing anointing in your life? For great anointing to be upon your life, to expose the Kingdom of God and bring people into it, there is a price.John 6:1-9, 14:25, 15:5-19Matthew 20:20-28, 26:36-39 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Even Jesus needed anointing. What was His anointing? It's the same as yours: to preach the Gospel to the poor. What does that mean? Let's talk about it!Scripture this week:Acts 2:14-16Luke 4:16-19Isaiah 42:32 Corinthians 5:16-19 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Your identity is rooted and grounded in His love because He IS love, and it is to the measure that you have revelation of the Father’s love for you that you are prepared to receive anointing. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The anointing of God has gotten a bad rap because it's become a "super star" thing. But He never intended His anointing for super stars. We want the joy of participation in anointing. Scripture this week: 1 John 2:15-29 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The scheme of the enemy is to make us forget who God is, His GOODNESS, by exploiting circumstances that lie about what is true in the spiritual reality, which is far superior to the physical reality. Remembering is the freedom to not live by the bondage of our fears of physical circumstances.Scripture this week: Psalms 103:1-5Luke 24:1-9Exodus 13:3Numbers 11:4-6, 15:37-41Deuteronomy 5:15, 7:17-8:3John 14:25-16:15 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
God's voice of love, ignites the fire of freedom that burns off the ropes of bondage and brings us to ever increasing awareness of His tangible presence. He loves you like that.Scripture this week:Acts 1:1-3Romans 12:1-2Luke 24:28-32 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
In order to be people who experience Jesus, we need to become people who EXPECT intimate, tangible interaction. He's always drawing near. But when we're not looking for Him, we don't recognize Him. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The Lord never meant for us to have blind faith. He invites us to taste and see. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
This Palm Sunday, the Lord is calling us not so much to be palm leaf wavers, but to walk alongside the donkey. Everyone hits points in our walk with Jesus where we are headed somewhere that is not necessarily our preference. We all have moments where He calls us from great & glorious walking w/ Him to going places we don't understand, through darkness. These are the points of no return. In them, there is a personal cost--but there is also ABUNDANT blessing. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
We have been given a spirit of a sound mind, a spirit that is constantly, lovingly correcting our thinking to align with the Kingdom of Heaven. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
God will provide everything we need in the storm. He is ALWAYS present, never more or less present. The question is how aware we are of it. Awareness of His presence rarely comes to us when we expect it, in the way that we expect it. When you recognize that your normal has been shattered by a storm, stop. Take a moment , and just say, "Lord, you're here, aren't you?" And ask Him how He wants you to join Him. He WILL love you with what you need. Yes, we're still talking about rest. Today, we're gonna talk about your internal environment, and that begins with your identity. Jesus knew exactly who He was. He knew that the Kingdom of God went with Him. He was absolutely at rest in His identity, and He knew why He was who He was. So, why was that? … His Father spoke it over Him. Who are YOU? Child of God. Why? Because the Father speaks that over you. We have to REST in the identity that the Father gives us. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Rest is knowing Him in such a way that nothing competes with His ability in your mind. Security in the knowledge of His identity... THAT's rest. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Rest is not just something that we do, it's not just something that's important to God... it's actually CORE to His nature. When He calls out a people, He says you ARE a people of rest. He doesn't say, you can have some rest, or you can work hard enough to get rest... You ARE a people of rest. And that means that we are FREE PEOPLE. Slaves don't get rest. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
What's the big deal about rest? The big deal is THIS: Rest releases the true you. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Let's pause for a minute and get a bird's eye view. Free people get rest, and Jesus paid a VERY HIGH PRICE for you to be free. So what's so important about rest? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
How can we be diligent to enter God's rest? By ceasing for striving for things by our own power that He has said are already ours by His. Freedom. Acceptance. Peace... By crossing obstacles WITH Him... and by our very desire to do His will. ALIGNMENT. That's the keyword. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
God's ways are an expression of who He is and a core of who He is, is rest. Unfortunately, last week's sermon (Rest pt 1) did not record due to some technical difficulties. Fortunately, Part 2 includes a review! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
God is always doing things. God is going to do things that are foundations for the things that he's going to do. Many times the things he does may not make sense to us. The things he has to give us are so overwhelmingly full of glory in His love for us, that we do actually have to be prepared, and the way we prepare is with childlike awe over His call on us, and His love over us in it. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Peace is REAL. It's not just a neat concept. It's a well-being that can't be touched by this world. Jesus IS the Prince of Peace. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Joy comes first. Joy creates room for God to put His fullness. With faith, we take Joy out of the place of the spirit and bring it into our reality to make a place for Him to put His fullness. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
We're gonna get a little Sunday School, but Sunday School had it right. The first thing you learned is the last thing you need to know. "Jesus love me, this I know..." DO you know?? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The Advent wreath represents the values of His Government, which are Peace, Hope, Love, and Joy. Faith is the currency. Faith is what you have to spend on His values. Hope is the joyful anticipation of a great coming good. It takes FAITH to CHOOSE to BELIEVE in HOPE. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Complaining empowers the enemy, but THANKFULNESS gets us through the gates. So how do we learn to be thankful for the HARD stuff? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Giants are the big scary things, the impossible issues that just kind of stand out there in your way and they never seem to go away. They cannot defeat us though. The most they can hope to accomplish is to hinder us. Every time you slay a giant, your identity is further revealed; God's glory in you is revealed... and the really great news is that even though it's not always instantaneous, they're actually easy to bring down! All of creation is waiting for you to be revealed. Let's go slay some giants! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Usually we think of the parables in the Bible in terms of what they teach us about the nature of God and the Kingdom of Heaven. But what can they teach us about our own identity? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Our Good Father is future thinking. His solutions to your current circumstances are already worked out for you, but you have to keep moving. You have to get up and go toward them. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Two kingdoms are at war. FORTUNATELY, you're right in the middle of it. You know why? You're the manner by which God has CHOSEN to win that war. He CHOSE you. He loves you that much. He BELIEVES IN YOU that much. And if you believe in Him, and you love Him, obedience will follow. In John 14:15 when Jesus says "If you love me, you will keep my commandments," was He saying "if you love me, you better prove it by being obedient?" NO! Obedience naturally follows love. And it is in obedience that we win the war by the power of His love. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
God is love. Obedience is a "trust fall" backwards into love. Obedience to the faith is believing in the new identity. It's knowing that Jesus did the work and believing that IT WORKED. God does not fill the "old man" with the spirit. He's made us a new creation, but where He works most powerfully is in the darkness, in our dark places that are revealed when the "old man" tries to convince us of a false identity. Only the enemy uses the voice of the "old man." Your new identity is WHO. YOU. ARE. That's the warfare. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
