We finally come to the end of the letter to the Romans. In this final chapter, Paul greets over 20 people by name, a couple that are unnamed, and several churches that are meeting in people's homes. These are people who he had met along the way in his missionary travels, and it seems he intended to meet them in Rome. He also closes the letter with greetings on nine other believers with him when he wrote the letter. This shows that Paul was not a man who went at it alone. He not only cared about reaching unbelievers, but he cared about his relationships with those who believed as well. He didn't just make converts, but rather he made disciples, and he taught these disciples to do the same.

Paul, Silas, and Timothy greet the church in Thessalonica in the grace and peace that comes from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. They give thanks to God for the faith, love, and hope He has given to the Thessalonians. This fruit was produced among them by the Gospel, so that they imitated the Lord Jesus and the apostles as they suffered with great joy. This set an example to Christians throughout the world, as they remembered how the Thessalonians turned away from idols to serve the living God, who has given us Jesus and saved us from the wrath to come. Rev. Jeff Hemmer, pastor at Bethany Lutheran Church in Fairview Heights, IL, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10. To learn more about Bethany Lutheran, visit bethanylcms.org. “Yearning for the Day of Christ's Returning” is a mini-series on Sharper Iron that studies St. Paul's two epistles to the Thessalonians. Although Paul's time in Thessalonica was brief, he had great affection for the Christians there. His two letters to the Thessalonians show us the joy that God gives us together in the Church and encourage us to live faithfully in expectation of Jesus' coming on the Last Day. Sharper Iron, hosted by Rev. Timothy Appel, looks at the text of Holy Scripture both in its broad context and its narrow detail, all for the sake of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen for sinners. Two pastors engage with God's Word to sharpen not only their own faith and knowledge, but the faith and knowledge of all who listen. Submit comments or questions to: listener@kfuo.org

23nd Sunday after PentecostScripture Lesson: 1 Thessalonians 1:1-3
We receive the Kingdom of God as little children when we experience proximity, sameness, belonging, significance, love, and being fully known by God.Mark 10:13-16Reverend Matt LakeNovember 16, 2025
Intentional thanksgiving shapes our spiritual growth by strengthening faith, deepening contentment, and increasing love for God. Gratitude strengthens faith by acknowledging God's continual provision—both in answered prayers and in trusting Him for what is yet to come. Thanksgiving also nurtures contentment, a learned attitude that finds joy in what God provides rather than in material excess. Paul's example in Philippians shows that true contentment is possible in any circumstance through Christ's strength. Gratitude helps believers resist materialism, greed, and coveting by focusing on God's wise and sufficient provision. Finally, thanksgiving fuels love for God as we recognize His goodness, salvation, gifts, and care. As we thank Him purposefully, our perspective shifts, and worship becomes our natural response.

How do we help children make sense of grief, faith, and growing up in a world that often rushes past their feelings? What happens when curiosity leads a child to lessons adults sometimes forget—courage, compassion, and belief in something greater? In this episode of Marketer of the Day, Olga Keber, a retired healthcare social worker turned children's author, shares her heartwarming journey and the story behind her debut book, Pepe's Adventure. The book follows an eight-year-old boy guided by faith and the loving memory of his grandfather. Drawing on more than 30 years of social work experience, Olga reveals how real-world lessons about resilience and empathy inspired her to create stories that help kids and parents connect through faith, curiosity, and courage. Olga shares how Pepe's Adventure came to life in just one week and how her years helping families shaped her mission to give children a voice. Through Pepe's journey of discovery and belief, she shows that storytelling can heal hearts, bridge generations, and remind families of the power of listening and love. Whether you're a parent, teacher, or someone who believes in nurturing kindness, this episode will rekindle your appreciation for faith, family, and the timeless lessons only a child's imagination can teach. Quotes: “I saw so many children who weren't being heard—by parents, by teachers, by friends. I wanted to give them a voice.” “Pepe learned survival. He learned to trust people and to speak his feelings so others could understand.” “Writing Pepe's Adventure gave me a new purpose. It reminded me that creativity doesn't end with retirement—it begins when you listen to your heart.” “Faith isn't just taught; it's discovered through experience.” Resources: Discover Pepe's Adventure by Olga Keber on Amazon

We know the grief of being separated from loved ones. When distance or circumstances make it impossible to be physically present with those we love, letter writing, phone, or video are no replacement. We know something is wrong if one would prefer to eat Thanksgiving Dinner on a video call instead of at the same table. Zoom calls are no substitute for family reunions. As this age moves away from the physical world and more toward digital connectivity, it is all the more important that we consider the essential nature of face-to-face fellowship in the local church. This Sunday we will return to 1 Thessalonians and consider God's purposes for our face-to-face fellowship. I invite you to read 1 Thessalonians 2:17-3:13 in preparation for worship. We will consider Paul's separation from the Thessalonians, Timothy's mission to encourage them, Timothy's report which encouraged Paul, and Paul's prayer for reunion with them. Take time to meditate on this text and pray for the work of God's Word in us as we come to worship Him this Sunday.Discussion & Response Questions for 1 Thessalonians 2:17-3:131. As you look back at this Sunday's Scripture text and sermon, what were some of the takeaways? What did you find helpful or encouraging? What questions do you have?2. What does this text reveal to us about the character and work of our Triune God?3. What does this text teach us about separation and reunion? (2:17-18; 3:11-13)?4. What do we learn about joy and fellowship? (2:19-20; 3:9-10)? 5. Describe Paul's concern for the spiritual welfare of the Thessalonians. What might it look like for you to share in this kind of concern for your brothers and sisters in Christ?6. Consider the nature of afflictions. How did Paul prepare them for affliction? What are temptations of affliction? How does one remain steadfast?7. What does biblical encouragement look like? How does Timothy encourage the Thessalonians? How do they encourage Paul?8. What is irreplaceable about face-to-face fellowship?9. Consider the closing words of this passage (vv. 11-13), and the language connected to the return of the Lord (2:19, 3:13). What should our fellowship lead to?10. How should we respond to this text?
In this episode, we dive deep into 1 Timothy 2:8, where Paul makes a pointed and passionate plea: “I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.” Why does Paul specifically call out men? Because the reality is—many men struggle with consistent, fervent prayer. Prayer is often seen as passive or unproductive, yet Jesus Himself taught that men ought always to pray and not lose heart (Luke 18:1). In this teaching, we'll explore:
True transformation doesn't come from white-knuckling your thoughts. It comes when you engage your whole self—body, mind, and spirit—to reset into peace. In this episode of Alive & Well, I'm joined by Ashriel Huber, founder of Love Moves, who helps women break free from fear, stress, and unworthiness by pairing movement, breath, prayer, and neuroscience. What started in her kindergarten classroom—where she discovered how movement transformed kids' ability to learn—has grown into a powerful framework for women to regulate their nervous systems, rewire their thoughts, and reclaim their God-given worth. We're diving into: ✔️ Why your body holds the key to shifting from fear brain to love brain ✔️ How Love Moves resets spark neurogenesis, close stress cycles, and create new patterns of peace ✔️ The role of consistency and repetition in rewiring your brain through neuroplasticity ✔️ Real stories of women who've gone from overwhelmed and unworthy to grounded, confident, and freeIf you've ever wondered how to actually renew your mind and take your thoughts captive in a practical, embodied way—this episode will show you what's possible.
Ben Fike Faith, Love, Hope at Work (2025)
As Moses approached the end of his life, his focus wasn’t on regret, bitterness, or personal loss—it was on God’s people. In Numbers 27:15-17, Moses prayed that the Lord would appoint a leader to guide Israel so they wouldn’t be “like sheep without a shepherd.” Despite his mistakes and missed opportunities, Moses left a legacy of faith, humility, and care for God’s people. This devotional reminds us that true spiritual leadership looks beyond ourselves and points others toward the ultimate Good Shepherd—Jesus—who leads us into rest, protection, and eternal promise. ✨ Highlights Moses’ selfless prayer — Even at the end of his life, Moses was focused on God’s people, not his own loss A legacy of faith — Despite failure, Moses’ life still pointed others toward God’s promises Jesus, our ultimate Shepherd — The fulfillment of Moses’ prayer is found in Jesus, who leads us to spiritual safety and rest (John 10:11) Kingdom perspective — God calls us to live with an eternal mindset, thinking beyond our present circumstances and investing in future generations Carrying God’s light — As Christ-followers, we are called to shine His light wherever we go and leave the world “better than we found it”
Today's classic episode is, Faith, Love, Hope. The Apostle Paul writes to the early church in Colosse to deal with the problem of holding on to old beliefs, rituals, superstitions and false perceptions. Or even worse, a corruption of the pure seed of the gospel truth about Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul through his pastoral heart, brings a timely reminder. In this message from 1 Peter 1:3–9, Pastor Andrew Coleman shows how genuine faith and love for Christ lead to the salvation of our souls. Even though we have not seen Jesus, we can believe in Him and love Him because of who He is and what He has done. Peter's own story—from failure to faithful witness—reminds us that God's mercy gives us a living hope that sustains us through trials. Faith and love are not just our response but God's gifts to us through Christ. This message encourages believers to rejoice in their salvation, even in the midst of suffering. ________________________________________ Links to Sermon Notes & Answers: ➤Sermon Notes (Blank): https://www.sheridanhills.org/_files/ugd/30fec2_b20c3b45f95840ca84bb21fb8717f59c.pdf ➤Sermon Notes (Answers): https://www.sheridanhills.org/_files/ugd/30fec2_e1bc7cba2ff443ad907d8e8e12870141.pdf ________________________________________ In this video: Review of previous sermons in series Main Points Application ________________________________________ Subscribe to this channel to catch weekly expositional sermons from the Bible. ________________________________________ Explore more sermons and information: https://www.sheridanhills.org/watch-new ________________________________________ Follow us: ➤Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sheridanhills/ ➤Twitter: https://twitter.com/sheridanhills01 ➤Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sheridanhills/
