We're jumping into the garden portion of Garden & Gravel this month. It's May, Mother's Day is right around the corner and that means, PLANTING SEASON is here! I love a good greenhouse or garden center and in this episode I want to share a bit about my favorite greenhouses and garden centers around the Des Moines area, and the things that matter to me when choosing the places I go to for buying plants.
On a recent vacation I intentionally left my camera at home, even though I knew there would be interesting places to photograph. I didn't want to deal with the hassle of hauling my camera bag on an airplane but I really wanted and needed the break. Letting go of the everyday activities, even for just a few hours, can be a great way to be present and see things from a different perspective. It can also be a wonderful way to deal with the winter blahs.
Today's episode is my 2025 kickoff for year two of Iowa's99. I'm sharing the process that is motivating me to keep moving forward and how my first photo day of year yielded some wonderful surprises about this state I call home and the people who care for it.
I am a gratitude girl, it has been a part of my morning routine for over six years and it has infiltrated nearly every corning of my life, including my long-held dislike of cooking.
An impromtu chat about my obsession with planners and the tools I like to use for setting goals in the new year.

Day 3 of my artist in residence at Pammel State Park found me hiking along Lodge Trail, where I encountered abundant wildlife, wildflowers and one of my favorite feathered friends.
At the beginning of 2024 I started planning a new photography project, Iowas99. One of the first parks I visited to kick things off, was Pammel State Park in Madison County. This episode is an introduction to the who and why of that decision.
I have stacks of notebooks and planners and I'm blessed with the opportunity to do what I love. Still, I struggle daily with motivation and actually getting things done. Listen in as I talk myself through the reason why I am not a planner and what actually works for me and why I believe it's important that we learn to do it our way. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
