I want to start sharing more small businesses on the Everything is Messy Podcast! Tell us your story, your why, and the products and services you have to offer this holiday season. As someone who has been working tirelessly on her own holiday collection and production, I get it! It is a lot! Starting today, I will be uploading two podcast episodes per week. One of which will be dedicated to small business owners. This will put my 300th episode to go out on 1-1-2022. How insane is that? Also, beginning in the new year is when all my guest episodes will begin to air. I cannot wait to share these incredibly inspiring conversations that have been recorded for you. Shipping containers have been anchored out for months. It has been all over the news as well as TikTok. Employees at the ports are documenting the robots and amounts of work that is still left to unload. So, I think now is the perfect time for small businesses to take advantage of the big chains not having product available on the shelves. As a small business owner, myself, and someone grateful for having the platform I've created available to always do more… To get your submission to air on the podcast, which by the way is now heard in 85 countries please send your contact info to everythingismessycollection@gmail.com so that we can hop on a quick call to discuss. If you do not own a small business, please feel free to send this email to someone who does. I would love to help them generate more revenue before the end of the year. Did you love today's show? Whenever things begin to open up in new ways, in church life, in our inner life, in our social justice work a kind of clumsiness ensues. We doubt ourselves. We fumble around. We know that perfectionism and urgency are sure fire ways to ensure nothing is learned and nothing changes, and yet it's hard not to succumb to those cultural norms. This Sunday we embrace the messiness of transformation and change.

The Transforming Anxiety Podcast

Every once in a while I see a theme pop up with my clients and this time it's so universal and so good that I thought we should do an episode of The Transforming Anxiety Podcast all about it. This week we're talking about doing it messy.  Soooo many of us are trying to get through the hard parts of life in a way that "looks pretty" or "feels graceful" or is somehow completely devoid of mistakes and discomfort. I have a better idea, my friend. How about let's NOT pretend anymore. Let's just do it messy. Because the only difference between doing it in a way that looks pretty and doing it in a way that looks like a total dumpster fire is our preferences about it. We don't WANT things to look like a dumpster fire, so we convince ourselves they CAN'T...which is actually not true at all. Done is better than pretty. Moving forward is better than perfection. Being in the flow of your life (instead of stuck on the sidelines) is better than faking it and presenting yourself as the most societally-acceptable version of who you are. The sooner we embrace the messy, the better. It's the fastest path towards freedom...with whatever you want to do, create, and feel. Kenya's Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is the showcase in Africa for China's debt-led infrastructure development drive. While critics accuse China of saddling Nairobi with unsustainable levels of debt to build the rail line that goes from the port of Mombasa to the capital Nairobi and then on to Naivasha in the Rift Valley, the reality is actually a lot more complicated. It turns out that Kenya lawmakers worked hard to circumvent their own laws, conceal the terms of the deal and, most likely, pocketed millions for themselves along the way.Oscar Otele, a political science lecturer at the University of Nairobi, has been studying the complex, messy politics surrounding the SGR for the past eight years and summarized some of his research's key findings in a recent article published on the Council on Foreign Relations website. Oscar joins Eric & Cobus from Nairobi to discuss why the simple narratives about the SGR are not even remotely accurate.JOIN THE DISCUSSION:CAP on Facebook: www.facebook.com/ChinaAfricaProjectTwitter: @eolander | @stadenesqueJOIN US ON PATREON!Become a CAP Patreon member and get all sorts of cool stuff including our Week in Review report, invitation to join monthly Zoom calls with Eric & Cobus, and even an awesome new CAP Podcast mug!www.patreon.com/chinaafricaprojectSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

What shape best represents the absolute lunacy that is humans and their economic activity? Something Jackson Pollock-esque? Mr Messy off of the Mr Men series, perhaps? Either way, probably not a nice, clean circle. But when you think about it, it really really should be. Cos unless we start (re)learning how to work with what we've got - i.e. sending things round and round in virtuous circles - rather than what we're about to drill / dig / blow up, we're gonna be in an awful pickle. To tell us what a circular economy actually is, why it's not babble, and how Ol buying a tumble dryer may not be inconsistent with it, is author, academic and activist Claire Potter. I've got all sorts of other cool stuff. There. Books, podcast tech, I'm going to be building it out with more things in the future stuff that helps me thrive in life. That was not the purpose of this episode. However, we're encouraged to make offers, make an offer. So there you go. I'm making you an offer. Enjoy these episodes that I put out, learn with me, grow with me, laugh with me, but at the same time, go by the fun toys that I'm telling you about. So if you haven't bought, purchased the Shure MV88 mic yet, go purchase it. Now um, oh my gosh. I'm having, it's fun. Getting back on track. I believe a few episodes ago, perhaps three or four, I was talking about how it was getting back on track.Mischa Z: 01:10 Um, I'd gone camping. My brother had been to town and, and, um, I was pretty blown out after the summit. So I was, I was having a hard time finding focus in the moment and it starting to fall back in place one day at a time as I do the next indicated step. So I've got an email list that came from, uh, the summit. And some of you listeners may be part of that email list if you are. Hello. So glad to have you on board. Thank you for listening and partaking and being on this awesome journey with me. And you can also send me an email anytime at info@belove.media. Say hi, check in, ask me questions, tell me what you like, what you don't like, whatever. Oh, go leave me a five-star review on the apple podcast. Anyhow. So I'm, I am, uh, tasked to email my list.Mischa Z: 02:24 And one of the programs that can automate that it's called Active Campaign and you can do all of these super cool flows. So as people log into the summit and register, they enter one flow and then if they buy the VIP, they're pushed over to another flow. And then if you, you know, do this, you're pushed over to another flow. And ultimately I want you in the nurture campaign flow and where I can add value to your life and sell you things and we can interact and all this fun stuff. And I'd hired Andrea, Andrea, Peer, you can Google her Facebook her. She's super gifted at what she does. She was the tech who, who helped me build out the summit. Andrea, if you're listening, love you, thank you so much for being part of my team and helping me. Um, but she had... Porsche Cayenne just went by.Mischa Z: 03:40 I had to pause it because he was very excited to get around that corner and stomp on it as he went by. I might too, if I had a shiny black Cayenne, which reminds me of a funny story, I almost did buy a shiny black cayenne turbo back in the day. This is about eight years ago, nine years ago. I don't know. I, I, I, I've never been a super big car guy and God bless you. If you are. Some people love their cars. I've been more of having fun with my house. I'm more of a house guy, which I think I learned from my dad, but I was buying that Cayenne Turbo, which is a ridiculously cool car. And for whatever reason, I was going to lease it. And, uh, we worked it out and have the payment and this and that. And the deal was pretty much done and I was happy with everything. And then they went and pulled my credit and my credit score wasn't, at the time, quite good enough to qualify for the amazing payment.Mischa Z: 05:01 So the deal fell apart. I came back to my census and it was like, I don't need a Porsche Cayenne. And again, if you have one, God bless you. If you have love your cars, love them. I had, uh, I've had some, whatever. Anyway, distracted. Now I barely ever drive. So I have a Ford, like a 2001, a pick em up truck, my son Waylon. I had that nice Mazda CX9 instead of buying the Porsche Cayenne. And I bought the, the CX9 with all the trimmings, and, all the fun stuff, the nav, all the goodies. And, uh, a year or so ago, my son was like, "I want the shiny car". And I was like, you know what? You can have the shiny car. I'll take the raggedy old truckSpeaker 2: 05:58 So Waylon has the shiny car I have the raggedy old truck and, oh, it just makes me think of home Jackson, Wyoming, my roots. Such a weird thing. Anyhow, thank you for the diversion. So Active Campaign, I'm finally catching up enough where I can play with Active Campaign myself, and it's taken me a while to get to this point, but here's the point. Um, I have people in the nurture flow and when somebody new...cause randomly people are coming into the summit. And still. And the summit is evergreen, which means people can still register for the Tools For A Good Life Summit, go check it out. If you haven't registered and watched any of the speakers. And then they, you can, you can, anybody who does that today, they get into the, into the evergreen flow, which is isn't an email flow, which, you know, releases the speakers day one day, two day three, cetera.Speaker 2: 07:15 They get 120 hours of free access to the, to the non VIP, um, interviews and all that. But after that, they, I needed the, the tag to get them into the nurture campaign. And, and I actually figured it out today and it felt so good. And that is part of the tech that I love playing with. So I love the email follow-up systems and all that kind of stuff. It's just so cool how you can do all that. And you know, the toys and the tech to do that now or so awesome. And visually they're super cool. And, you know, they show you that the, the flows and the trees and all that. And so I was able to, I'd had a couple of new people in the queue that were stuck in the evergreen queue. Sorry about the language. If you're not tracking me, but I needed to bump them over to the nurture path flow. And I quickly figured out how to add that tag, and it worked, and that's so fun and it's fun having fun, I guess that's my point. It's, um, I'm past a little bit of the overwhelm, still a slight overwhelm state, but having fun versus just like survival. Anyway, that's what I've got for you. Love to all have a great day. Go chase some dreams. Go try new things, learn new stuff. Take messy action. Um, get overwhelmed. Yeah. Life is good. Peace out.

We named our podcast The Messy Studio for a reason that goes beyond the physical working space. We also mean to imply that the creative process itself is rarely neat or clearly defined. It is more often confusing and convoluted. This aspect of creativity can be frustrating, but it's necessary each time we find a new path in our work. Today we talk about the importance of the messy stages of creativity and how clarity can be achieved as we move forward. One of our listeners, Max McConkey, recently commented that the stages of a painting can be compared to stages of life, and that some parts of the life cycle are a bit wild and chaotic leading up to a mature painting. Using this analogy, its clear to see that each stage of growth is important and necessary for resolving each work of art. The messier stages can be frustrating though and tempt you to reach for the easiest solution possible. But in doing that you may miss some new ideas and solutions that could be gained by working with the mess you have rather than giving up on it. On the other hand, it can be a trap to spend endless time making small tweaks and changes that aren't making any real difference. The real mess in the piece may be a larger issue, like the color palette or composition, or wanting your medium to do something that it isn't made for, and to see bigger issues you probably need to walk away for a break and return with fresh eyes. There are times when a fresh start is the best move but take a little time to identify what has gone wrong. The creative process is rarely straightforward and linear, even though we somehow seem to expect it to be. Maybe it is human nature to think it should be easier than it is. But inside, most of know that our work would never grow and change if we never had to power through messes, chaos, frustration. Thanks to everyone who has been sharing the show and donating!
