Series: Joy - Lessons from 1 Thessalonians Speaker: Bryan Schackmann
Speaker: Bryan Schackmann Distraction - we live at a time where we can choose distraction over what is most important. What do you need to recommit yourself to? How could you honor God with how you use your time?
Speaker: Bryan Schackmann As we finish this series we are going to talk about contentment. How could we cultivate a spirit of contentment in all of us? What would it look like for us to enjoy God and our relationship with our Creator.
Speaker: Bryan Schackmann We are going to continue talking about simple speech this week. How could we have a better understanding of the incredible power of our words?
Speaker: Bryan Schackmann We are going to talk about simple speech. Why is it that monks and nuns spend hours of the day in silence? The place where the majority of us will sin is with our words. What would it look like for you to use your words as a blessing and ministry to others?
Speaker: Bryan Schackmann Jesus tells us “Life isn't found in an abundance of possessions” - how do we live in such a way that we cultivate generosity? Would anyone in your life describe you as generous? When we give we are often blessed beyond measure.
Speaker: Bryan Schackmann Jesus tells us “Life isn't found in an abundance of possessions” - what he is trying to get us to do is purify our hears before God. What does that look like? How do we check our hearts to get to a place of purity?
Speaker: Bryan Schackmann Jesus tells us “Life isn't found in an abundance of possessions” - but are we really sure we believe him on that? During this series we are going to think about the Christian practice of simplicity and how we can apply it to our lives.
Speaker: Bryan Schackmann Ooften when we think of our accomplishments we think of awards won or job titles held - but Paul reminds us that true life is found in the relationships that we have. What would it look like for you to recognize the blessing of the relationships that you have.
Speaker: Austin Chapman Parable of the Wicked Tenants (also called the parable of the Vine-Growers or husbandmen). This parable is about Jesus knowing His death, and ultimately conquering it. This is God's last attempt to reconcile the current religious regime. The Old Kingdom. But this parable shows that the Kingdom of Heaven that Jesus is bringing will be different. Not for the religious elite. But for everyone. And that people will pass and fade away, but Jesus remains.
Speaker: Austin Chapman We deserve to pay our debt, but God cleared it. So we should be a people of forgiveness, because we've been forgiven everything. The Kingdom of heaven is full of forgiveness, and people who do the same. Levity in our debts, because ours was forgiven
Speaker: Austin Chapman Is Jesus your treasure? Is Jesus so great in your life that you would JOYFULLY give up everything for Him? Not begrudgingly, happily, joyfully.
Speaker: Bryan Schackmann with special presentation by Anita Schackmann.
