South America cruising delivered some of the most spectacular sights I have ever experienced — but also a few costly, frustrating, and very unexpected lows. On my recent 31-night South America cruise, I filmed live updates from eight of the region's most popular cruise ports and scenic cruising days, capturing what it was really like in the moment. From leaving the ship for two and a half days to visit Machu Picchu, to standing among penguins in the remote Falkland Islands, sailing past Cape Horn, Glacier Alley and the astonishing Brüggen / Pío XI Glacier, this trip had moments that were genuinely epic. But it was not all breathtaking views and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. In this video, I also reveal the South America ports and excursions that disappointed me, surprised me for the wrong reasons, or left me questioning whether the cost and effort were really worth it, and a few ports that sounded more exciting on paper than they felt in reality. I visit and discuss Lima, Machu Picchu, Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands, Ushuaia, Cape Horn and other Scenic Sailing Highlights, the Chilean Fjords, Punta Arenas, Magdalena Island, General San Martín, Puerto Montt, Coquimbo and La Serena — sharing the highs, the lows, the watch-outs, and what I would do differently next time. South America is one of the most varied and dramatic cruise regions in the world, but it is also unpredictable, expensive in places, and not always easy to get right. Melissa Slemp has lived with type 1 diabetes for 44 years — since she was diagnosed in 1982, before glucometers, before CGMs, back when insulin came from vials and syringes and "boiling your needles" was still a recent memory for a lot of people. In this episode, we trace that whole arc: what early management actually looked like, the high-risk pregnancy she navigated in the 90s, and the moment — after more than four decades on injections — she finally switched to a pump. If you've ever wondered what it's like to hand over that much control after that much time, this is the conversation. But the real heart of this episode is what happens to blood sugar when a woman with type 1 diabetes hits perimenopause. Melissa walks through her own experience of watching her basal insulin needs climb for no obvious reason, the years she spent without an explanation, and what she eventually learned about estrogen, progesterone, and insulin resistance — knowledge she says she had to dig up herself, because most endocrinologists and OBGYNs simply aren't trained in the overlap. That research became the reason she wrote Highs, Lows, and Hormones, a survival guide for women navigating diabetes from their monthly cycle through menopause. Along the way, we get into hormone replacement therapy, why so many women blame themselves before they ever think to blame their hormones, and the bigger pattern underneath it all: how much of diabetes research and care has historically centered men, and what it costs women when it does. There's also a genuinely great story about how Melissa met her husband, who also lives with type 1 — on the side of the road, of all places. This one's for anyone managing type 1 diabetes as a woman, anyone who loves someone who is, or anyone who's ever felt like their body changed the rules without telling them why. The S&P 500 fell 0.3%, the Dow lost 577 points, while the Nasdaq 100 gained 0.3%. Commercial fishers are rejecting claims a staple "fish and chip" fish is facing extinction. Environmental Defence Society data shows the eastern tarakihi stock has fallen to just 7.7% of its pre-fishing population, while the western stock is at 29%, and declining rapidly. Federation of Commercial Fishermen President Doug Saunders-Loder told Mike Hosking they've worked since 2017 to rebuild the fisheries and thought things looked good, so this is a kick in the guts. He says the industry needs to stay calm and reassess, and believes comments about extinction are melodramatic and unhelpful. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Kevin Hincks says the U.S. economy is doing “fairly well” as tensions appear to cool between the U.S. and Iran, expecting crude oil prices to slide further. One troubling international mover: the Japanese yen falling to 40-year lows. It comes as the U.S. dollar moves just under 52-week highs while metals like gold and silver remain in a bear market.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about
We have covered volume a handful of times on the podcast — ETP#167 (Personalizing Your Training Volume), ETP#188 (Quality Volume), and most recently ETP#207 (The Training Volume Model). This one comes at it from a different angle: not "what's the right number of sets," but how that number can change over a training career as skill as a lifter improves. The whole thing started with Aaron's quads. They used to be the body part he was almost ashamed of, and now they're on par with everything else. Except he only trains them once a week, six sets, and they're in shambles for five or six days afterward. That low a dose creating that much stimulus had Aaron questioning a lot of things, mainly: what actually makes a lagging body part lag? Is it genetics, or is it that you just haven't figured out how to contract the muscle well enough yet? Aaron's honest belief is leaning hard toward the second one.So we get into the precision side of volume. Why a row isn't always a 1.0 stimulus, why your weak points might not need more sets so much as better execution, how strength curves explain why back and delts get buried under volume while quads light up off almost nothing, and how to actually manipulate all of this with rep ranges and resistance profiles. Fund flows for Bitcoin have not been favorable for bulls in the crypto space, says Charles Schwab's Adam Lynch. Dog Show Tips for Beginners: Navigating the Learning Curve [caption id="attachment_15805" align="alignleft" width="522"] Matt Stroud with his dogs and his new children's book, "More than a Ribbon."[/caption] Host Laura Reeves welcomes Matt Stroud (known to some on Facebook as "Kermit the Dog"), an enthusiastic owner-handler of Schipperkes. Matt shares his journey from being a shy high schooler navigating 4-H with a poodle mix and a Yorkshire Terrier, to returning to the dog show world as an adult with his Schipperkes. Navigating the Learning Curve Matt candidly discusses the fragmented and confusing realities for newcomers, noting that while the sport is more visible than ever, basic logistics—like navigating superintendent websites to enter shows—can be overwhelming without insider knowledge. The Power of Mentorship and Responsibility A major turning point for Matt was meeting his tough-as-nails mentor, Audrey, who bluntly told him his struggles in the ring were his fault, not the dog's. Matt emphasizes the importance of accepting personal responsibility for grooming, conditioning and handling, rather than blaming judges or competitors. Highs, Lows and Dealing with Negativity Matt shares the incredible high of winning an Award of Merit at his first Westminster, contrasted with a humbling weekend where a lack of preparation resulted in losing every class. He also provides practical advice for handling "mean people" ringside: avoid vague-booking on Facebook and instead speak directly to the person to clear up misunderstandings. "More Than a Ribbon" Matt introduces his beautifully illustrated, rhyming children's book, More Than a Ribbon, A Dog Show Story. Inspired by his own journey and the beauty of outdoor shows like Palm Springs, the book is designed to help kids (and adults) normalize losing, learn that they cannot control every outcome and find comfort in their community. Matt's Top 3 Tips for Beginners: Filter the advice you receiveand consider whether it empowers you to improve.Take personal responsibilityfor understanding ribbons, placements and ring procedures.Never give up, because even through dry spells, your winning moment will come.
