The sermon emphasizes the eternal and unchanging nature of God's Word compared to the fleeting nature of human life. Disputes claim that state has necessary access Laura Bergman, who owns the property at the northern end of West Street in Cold Spring that serves as an entrance to the state-owned Dockside Park, says New York is claiming more rights than it has to create an entrance over her property to the proposed southern section of the Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail. In a state court filing dated Sept. 4, Bergman's attorney argues that 1988 and 2000 easements that allow pedestrians and workers to enter the park do not permit access for the large numbers of visitors who would presumably pass by her home if the trail extends between Dockside and Little Stony Point. Bergman was named in a lawsuit filed in May by the Village of Cold Spring and Town of Philipstown against state parks; Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail Inc., a division of Scenic Hudson; and Putnam County, which recently asked Judge Gina Capone to remove it as a defendant. The village and town claim the state environmental review of the project does not adequately consider the trail's potential impact on the village. Bergman purchased 3 North St. in 2012 from Richard Siskind, who in 1988 had granted an easement and right-of-way for pedestrians and some vehicles, landscaping, underground utility lines and grading, according to the court filing. "The easement agreement contains no grant of public access, no authorization for a linear park, no right to accommodate high volumes of recreational visitors and no right to extend or convert the easement into a public trail or multi-use path serving a regional linear park system along the Hudson River," the filing states. In the 2020 agreement, Bergman granted the state a 20-foot-wide easement for $1 to create an unpaved recreational trail. She claims that state parks presented a "superseding agreement" in 2022 that would have permitted additional uses such as walking, hiking, jogging, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, biking and other non-motorized activities, but it was never executed. Bergman asked Capone to rule that the 1988 agreement is the only valid easement, saying that the circumstances since 2020 have "materially and substantially changed," given that she could not have anticipated the development of the Fjord Trail.

Clé receives the key; Foyer asks what happens when access becomes entrance. It is not ownership or enthronement, but the beginning of habitation under Jesus Christ. Psalm 27 carries forward from Clé. David's “one thing” remains life with the Lord, beholding His beauty and seeking His face. The gathering emphasizes believing that God's goodness will be seen in the land of the living, waiting without despair, and remembering that sin has been made white as snow and cast into the sea. The body's scriptures converge around faith, Spirit-borne speech, salvation rather than condemnation, and the Bride's preparation.¹ First Corinthians 2 establishes the wisdom of the entrance. Paul possessed unusual learning and interpretive power, yet refused to ground his ministry in eloquence, credentials, or human righteousness. He centered everything upon Christ crucified so that faith would rest in God's power. Foyer therefore requires the collapse of self-qualification. No achievement, prophetic experience, miracle, office, or intellectual capacity can carry the person into the Father's life as its source.² The teaching describes many possible “lanes” a person might travel, including impressive spiritual lives outside the Father's intended design. The essential work is not constructing an ideal self, but believing in the One God sent and making one's calling and election sure. The Father's memory of the person must displace inherited identity, social projection, guilt, and self-authored destiny. Christ's righteousness becomes the ground from which the true person emerges.³ Second Peter 1 supplies Foyer's entrance grammar. God first gives everything necessary for life and godliness. The believer responds with diligence, adding excellence, knowledge, self-control, endurance, godliness, mutual affection, and love. Peter concludes that “in this way” an entrance into the eternal kingdom of Jesus Christ will be richly supplied. Entrance is received rather than manufactured. Formation does not purchase the kingdom; it makes the receiver increasingly capable of inhabiting what grace provides.⁴ This produces the event's “infinite infancy”: ever-expanding creative capacity joined to permanent dependence upon the Father. The master craftsman remains the nursing child. Growth does not outgrow derivation. Greater ability produces deeper trust, love, and service rather than self-authorization. Peter's account of the Transfiguration leads to the central interior image: the prophetic word shines like a lamp in a murky place until day dawns and the morning star rises in the heart. Foyer is this illuminated interior. Former supports may be unseated, but the person waits for Christ's light rather than rebuilding from fear. Prophecy is not private imagination; impressions are offered to the body, judged together, tested by Scripture, and centered upon the beloved Son.⁵ Foyer, then, is the richly provided entrance. Clé receives lawful access; Foyer receives entrance as habitation. The Father's design is remembered, Christ's righteousness is trusted, the Spirit's voice is discerned, and the morning star rises within. (Courtesy PGA) The PGA Tour has bestowed one of its highest honors, the Payne Stewart Award, to a four-time PGA Tour winner who is also a citizen of the Navajo Nation. KJZZ's Gabriel Pietrorazio has details. Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Notah Begay III excelled at swinging a club. His success on the fairway afforded him the chance to play college golf beside Tiger Woods at Stanford University – winning a national team championship in 1994. Begay is widely considered the first Indigenous golfer to compete on the PGA Tour. When accepting the award on Tuesday, Begay noted how Native Americans have the lowest graduation rates and life expectancies in the U.S. among all ethnicities. “So for me to be standing up here as a Stanford graduate with a degree in economics, four-time PGA Tour winner and a television broadcaster accepting this prestigious award is a miracle.” Entrance to White Mesa Mill in southeastern Utah. KNAU's Chris Clements reports that is according to House Democrats, who have launched an investigation into Energy Fuels for potential insider trading. Two House Democrats allege the Trump administration may have tipped Energy Fuels off about the cut to Bears Ears National Monument before it happened, leading company executives to invest in their own firm. One of the Democrats is U.S. Rep. Jared Huffman, D-California. “The timing and the volume of these stock purchases are conspicuous and speak for themselves.” Huffman asked the company to send a year's worth of communications with the feds, as well as its lobbying contracts, by August 24, but Energy Fuels did not provide the materials by that deadline, according to a spokesperson for Huffman. In a statement, the company said it strongly rejects the idea that anything improper took place, but did not deny that it missed the deadline. Energy Fuels stands to benefit from less protections to the uranium-rich monument, the lawmakers argue, because the company owns the White Mesa Mill, the only conventional uranium processing mill in the United States. Gov. Tim Walz, D-Minnesota, has signed an executive order blocking new state mineral leases and halting permitting work for proposed nonferrous mining projects in the Rainy River Headwaters Watershed near the Boundary Waters. The National Congress of American Indians praised the move, saying it protects treaty rights, Tribal resources, and culturally significant lands from potential mining-related pollution. NCAI also recognized the Bois Forte, Fond du Lac, and Grand Portage Bands of Lake Superior Chippewa. The three 1854 Treaty Tribes have pushed for protections in the region and earlier this year joined the Red Lake Nation and an Anishinaabe First Nation in Canada in a cross-border effort to protect the watershed. NCAI Executive Director Larry Wright Jr. says the order provides immediate relief, but permanent protections are still needed. The organization is calling for federal legislation permanently withdrawing the Boundary Waters and Rainy River Headwaters from mineral leasing and development. The letter came during Pontiac's War, when a confederation of Native nations fought British forces around the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley. Amherst also supported efforts to spread smallpox among Native people, one of the most infamous examples of biological warfare discussed during the colonial era. And you can download the entire Luke study notes from our website. Now, the Lord goes on to show us the two comparisons of what the kingdom of God is like. Jesus compares it to a mustard seed growing to a huge size, and then he compares the kingdom of God to leaven which permeated an entire mixture of flower. Now the third scene shows our Lord going through the towns and the villages, teaching when someone asked him if there were only a few being saved. So the Lord gives this parable of the narrow door through which people need to enter to be saved if there is to be any hope at all. And Jesus is that open door. Any slide, anecdote, or statistic that does not directly support that final "pass-along phrase" is a detour that should be cut.   Insight 5: Stop Trying to Be Right, Start Getting it Right   Highly analytical leaders often waste presentations trying to make an airtight, factual case to force agreement. However, two people can agree on the exact same facts and still choose different courses of action. Communication is most effective when leaders let go of their ego and the need to be "right," focusing instead on outlining a shared path forward that makes sense for both parties.   Insight 6: Jargon is a Shield   When leaders know what they want to say but resort to dense, approved corporate language, they are usually trying to protect themselves. Summer heat changes the way both beekeepers and honey bee colonies operate. In this episode, Jim Tew is joined by Anne Frey of Betterbee to explore what beekeeping in hot weather really means inside and outside the hive. Jim begins by asking a simple question: are bees actually bothered by heat, or is it mostly the beekeeper who suffers? Anne explains that while honey bees evolved in warm climates and are remarkably effective at regulating hive temperature and humidity, beekeepers should think carefully before disturbing colonies that are already working hard to maintain those conditions. The discussion highlights the value of simply observing colony entrances rather than opening hives unnecessarily. Entrance activity, pollen collection, fanning behavior, and bearding all provide valuable information while allowing the colony to continue regulating its environment. Anne also shares practical guidance on managing Varroa mites during hot weather. MARK 10:13-31 "[13] And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. [14] But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. [15] Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” [16] And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them. [17] And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” [18] And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. [19] You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.'” [20] And he said to him, “Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth.” [21] And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” [22] Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. For all things are possible with God.” [28] Peter began to say to him, “See, we have left everything and followed you.” [29] Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, [30] who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. [31] But many who are first will be last, and the last first.” ESV LESSON NOTES Harvard University, California Institute of Technology, Stanford University, MIT, and Princeton University have some of the lowest college acceptance rates in our country (3-4%). In many different fields, being outstanding seems to be the benchmark for entry (colleges, athletics, promotions, jobs). Within these realms, and others, personal achievements/accolades are the pathway to acceptance (Achievements = Acceptance) Children are great examples of people who are helpless, defenseless, and needy. Unlike adults, children come with no pretense, no artificial or adopted behaviors to impress people. Children come empty handed and they know how to ask for help. And they don't just ask for help, they eagerly receive it. Because of this, Jesus uses these little ones as examples of how one should receive the Kingdom. In Jesus' words in verses 14-15, we see two realities about entering the kingdom of God: 1.) Entrance into the Kingdom of God is received. 2) Entrance into the Kingdom of God is for the child-like. These two realities complement one another because if we are not child-like then we will not receive. In contrast to the child-like reception Jesus speaks about in verses 14-15, we see the rich man perceive eternal life as a matter of personal achievement. Within his conversation with Jesus, Jesus gives the man this command, "... go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” (vs. 21) Going, selling, and giving were the means by which Jesus told this man to detach himself from his current master, his idol of possessions. These commands ultimately led to the ultimate command: "come, follow me". Yet, upon hearing this, the man walks away. From here we see a difficult truth: entrance into the Kingdom of God is not accepted by everyone. In the disciples day, those who were rich were considered to be blessed by God. Since this was the dominating ideology, those who were rich were virtually guaranteed a place in the kingdom of God because their wealth was evidence of God's blessing. This is why the disciples react so stunned after hearing Jesus' teachings in verses 23-26. They ask Jesus a sincere question ("Then who can be saved?") and Jesus responds with the perfect answer (“With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.”) Jesus lovingly reminds His disciples that entrance into the kingdom of God is completely beyond the sphere of human possibility. What we can't do in our humanity, God did in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. There is an ultimate connection between the child-likeness of verse 15 and the rich man of verse 22. This connection is seen in 3 aspects: Their records. Their responses. What they receive.  1.) Record - Child-like: No Significant Record / Rich man: Significant Record 2.) Response - Child-like: Eager Reception / Rich man: Sorrowful Rejection 3.) Receive - Child-like: Salvation / Rich man: Separation God restores Gospel goodbyes. When we leave good things and say goodbye to dear people for the sake of the Gospel, God does not leave us empty-handed. The God who is able “to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think” does not overlook our goodbyes when they are rooted in the name of Jesus. Entrance into the Kingdom of God gives the children of God hope for what is to come.  DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. As you remember your process of choosing where to go to college, what were some of the schools you were considering? Why? Did you end up at your "dream school"? 2. In your life, what environments or settings do you feel the most tempted/feel the most pressure to relay your personal accomplishments or accolades? Why those environments? 3. Receiving is different than earning. Why is this difference such a big deal in our relationship with God? In your walk with God, do you find it difficult to receive rather than earn? If so, in what aspects is it the most difficult? 4. Have you had any experience with someone walking away/rejecting Jesus? If so, what was that like for you to experience? As you read about this man's decision, what do you notice about Jesus' reaction/response? Does his response capture your attention in any way? 5. Are there any difficult statements/teachings from Jesus that you have had to wrestle with in your walk with Him? If so, what did/does that process look like for you? 6. As you process through this connection between the childlikeness of verse 15 and the rich man of verse 22, what sticks out the most to you? What speaks most deeply to your heart? 7. Have you ever had to say a "gospel goodbye" to something or someone? If so, how difficult was that? How has God shown up since then?
