Join us for a special worship service at First Unitarian Church of Dallas, where we are honored to welcome writer, artist, historian, and activist Aurora Levins Morales as our guest minister. Aurora Levins Morales is a Puerto Rican author, artist, activist, and historian. Her writing and activism persistently imagine a world in which the personal is understood as political and vice versa, the complexities of identity and heritage are explored rather than erased, and structures of oppression (racism, classism, sexism, imperialism, colonialism, capitalism, etc.) are recognized as interlocking, such that they must be simultaneously challenged to be dismantled. Her contributions have been critical to third wave feminism and its evolution, Puerto Rican and Latinx feminism, disability justice, radical Judaism, climate change activism, and grassroots organizing. First Unitarian Church of Dallas is devoted to genuine inclusion, depth and joy, reason and spirit. We have been a voice of progressive religion in Dallas since 1899, working toward a more just and compassionate world in all of what we do. We hope that when you come here your life is made more whole through experiences of love and service, spiritual growth, and an open exploration of the divine. Happy Mother's Day to all mothers throughout the world. Pastor Nelson preached this sermon on Mother's Day, May 12, 2024, on Mother's Day. But man fell into sin, and with man all creation was cursed. Therefore, God spoke His Word again, this time into the womb of the blessed Virgin Mary. The glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle of our human nature (Ex. 40:17–21, 34–38). “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:1–14). The Son of God took on our flesh and blood and died on the cross in order that we might receive the right to become the children of God through faith. Baptized into Christ's body, we are made partakers of a new Genesis, “the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:4–7). In Christ, the kindness and love of God our Savior toward man has truly appeared. Lectionary summary © 2021 The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Used by permission. http://lcms.org/worship

Preacher: Pastor Jonathan Fischer
St. Isidore Capital Campaign website: growstisidore.orgToday, I want to speak to you about glory. It's the second Sunday in a row that we have a Gospel about the Last Judgment.Typically, when we think of the LJ, we think of a terrifying spectacle, where the world will be consumed in fire, where everyone on the earth will die, where all nations and towns will be wiped away. No more Denver, no more NYC, no more USA.It is true that the LJ will be a day of wrath, a day of trembling and mourning. But it will be a blessed day for the saints. It will be the day that they enter into their glory, body and soul.It is the day that Our Lord will say to them, “Well done, good and faithful servant, come take possession of the kingdom prepared for you from the beginning of the world.”This is what we want to happen to us on that day. We want to hear Our Lord say to us that He is going to give us possession of a kingdom. We should want to receive as much glory as possible on that day. It is good for us to desire heavenly glory! But it is not enough to desire it; we must also ask ourselves what we must do to receive it.This is a “thought experiment” that St. Ignatius has us do when we are on retreat. When I appear before OL one day for my judgment, what will I wish that I had done? What things will I have done that I will be glad about? What things will I have done that I wish I did not do?What things will I have left undone that I wish I had accomplished?

Gary Hamrick, Pastor of Cornerstone Chapel in Virginia, gives his Election Day Sermon for 2024
Send us a Text Message.American society is unhinged and absent masculinity is a symptom of our estranged relationship with God. Something that has been missing in the evangelical church is the worship of God for manhood. We walk on egg shells discussing masculinity because we've bought into the lie that manhood and womanhood is about us rather than the Lord. We live move and have our being in Him. So, we ought to preach relentlessly about biblical masculinity because faithful men glorify the Lord. Also, we ought to take heart in the fact that Jesus is a man. Father's Day Sermon for Sunday, JUne 16, 2024
Send us a Text Message. This week I decided to replay Episode 3 a fathers Special I recorded last year. I hope you enjoy This Flashback Podcast. I will be back in two weeks with another missing persons podcast. Historians say the first Father's Day card was created nearly 4000 years ago by a young man that carved it in a piece of clay, assuming a tablet of sorts. He carved his special message wishing his father good health and long life. The first Father's Day memorial service was held on July 5, 1908, to honor the 361 men that were killed in a Tragic mine disaster in Fairmont West Virgina December of 1907. Out of these 361 men, 250 of them were fathers. It was a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd that is credited for Father's Day becoming what it is today. According to a story on education.com, Sonora Dodd, the daughter of a widowed Civil war veteran came up with the idea while listening to a Mother's Day Sermon at her church in 1909. She was inspired to create a special day to honor her father as well as others. She wanted the first Father's Day to be June 5th which was her father's birthday, however, the city and community leaders said they needed more time to prepare so it was moved to June 19, 1910. The idea caught on, by 1924 President Coolidge supported a petition for a national Father's Day and a national Father's Day committee was formed in New York city in 1926. President Johnson in 1966 designated the 3rd Sunday in June as Father's Day but it wasn't until 1972 that President Nixon established Father's Day as a national holiday. Sonora is also credited with making the rose the official flower of Father's Day. Wearing a red rose signified your father was still living, wearing a white rose was to honor your father that had passed away. She was said to have brought roses and gifts to any father in the community that was unable to make it to the church services where roses were given out to honor the fathers of the church. Some fun Facts about Father's Day, Because of Sonora Dodd, Washington was the first state to celebrate Father's Day. Sonora was from Spokane, Washington.Across the pond in Europe Father's Day has it roots in the Middle Ages to honor Saint Joseph on March 19th Saint Joseph was the foster father of Jesus. It eventually turned into a day to honor the institution of fatherhood in general. For the French its all about lighters. Still being related to the celebration of Saint Joseph, this tradition had started to fade in the years after World War II. to reignite the consumer interest in spending money on dad, a French lighter company called Flaminaire created a new Father's Day in 1949 to help sell their products and the ad campaign was successful and has been observed in France ever since.
