The church in Corinth was in trouble. They were divided and immature. They abused the sacraments, the spiritual gifts, and each other. Paul's great concern is the reconciliation of these divisions between God's saints, to accomplish this there must be unity in Christ. In 2nd Corinthians, Paul praises the young church for their obedience, generosity, and love, and reassures them of his legitimacy as an apostle.

Matthew's opening verse makes it very clear what this book is about: Jesus, the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham. The rest of this Gospel presents evidence of who Jesus is: God incarnate, the Father's beloved Son, living among men. The king, declaring that the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Mark records Jesus' life: His miracles, betrayal, death, resurrection, and commission. However, Mark's Gospel is very brief and focuses more on things Jesus did than things Jesus said.

Luke's Gospel is the longest book in the New Testament. Being a detailed historian who researched everything, Luke tells Jesus' story in extensive detail, more than any other Gospel. The purpose of John's Gospel is most profoundly stated in John 20:30-31. This book is meant to awaken faith in unbelievers and to sustain the faith of those who already do believe, calling on all men to focus their eyes on the portrait of Jesus Christ and His saving work

Jonah is the most widely known of the Minor Prophets — not only for being swallowed by a fish — but also for being given a message by God and then rebelling against the idea of delivering it. Micah — In a land where the judges accept bribes, rulers oppress the poor, prophets lead the people astray and the priests are easily bought, a just God demands justice. The picture of sin and judgment is dark. Is there mercy and forgiveness with this avenging God? Micah closes his book with words that leave no doubt in our minds that there is.

God is good and compassionate (Nah 1:7, Jon 4:2), but He will not leave the guilty unpunished (Nah 1:3). Nahum is sent to reveal Nineveh's future: utter desolation. Habakkuk -- The people of Judah have grown wicked, violent, and corrupt. There is no justice in the land that is supposed to be known by God's name. “Surely, God, you will set things right?”, Habakkuk pleads. God answers, but not in the way Habakkuk expects.
