Kevin and Alyssa Stefanescu these two embody the spirit of DIY. Not only are they partners in marriage and music; they taught themselves the ins and outs of recording their own music videos and they've been working to outfit a huge van into a tiny home ... and recording studio. All this while managing to stay human on social media. That's all in the podcast this week. CapRadio.   "I'll Know" was released in February as a single on Topograf's Bandcamp profile along with the cut "Signs."   "Dreams" earned us a copyright notification on YouTube because the recording was so close to the album version (we're in the clear now).  That Topograf can so closely mimic their sound between settings speaks to how tightly they compose their tracks.

POOR Majesty In-Studio This week brings Adrian Gilmore (POOR Majesty) to the studio and he's backed up by an impressive collection of Sacramento musicians. Band: Adrian Gilmore - lead vocals Sené Goss - vocals John Johnson - keyboard Peter Clevenger - guitar Alfonso Portela - drums"I live off Broadway so I saw the changes and how it was effecting the neighborhood. It was a lot cleaner and appealing but then I noticed nobody from the neighborhood was working in any of the new establishments. I wanted the song to be about all the Broadway's all over America." - Adrian Gilmore"   You might recognize Adrian Gilmore (aka "POOR Majesty") from his work in the Sacramento hip hop group Tribe of Levi or from his various performances with artists like Bru Lei or Mahtie Bush. "Patience" is his upcoming record due out this summer. This performance comes from his July 17th session for Hey, Listen! ... "This one's for my homegirl Donna Apidone..."   "I started out writing Roses as a tribute song for my grandma. When I got to the 2nd verse I decided to write that one for my Grandfather. Five days later he died. He was 98 years old. I'm soooo glad I did that song for them while I had the chance." - Adrian Gilmore

Upon a revelation at a Sylvan Esso concert, Davis, CA songwriter Lillian Frances set to work making music. Her early days making folky guitar tracks came to a halt after she "got tendonitis harvesting girthy vegetables (read: butternut squash)." Frances came to CapRadio to talk about her post-squash music, where her samples come from and how being fluent in Spanish doens't mean you're understood BY the Spanish.    Frances compares the sound of the Spanish language like "someone speaking in cursive." It's one of the reasons she like incorporating the laungauge in her music...despite not being able to roll her Rs. That's where "Flinch" comes in.   Lillian lost her ability to play guitar thanks to developed tendomitis harvesting girthy vegetables (read:butternut squash)." She wrote "Phone, Keys, Wallet" as a response about the things we lose.   Check out even more videos from Lillian's session at CapRadio's YouTube profile. Walk It OffAt the close of the podcast this week, Lillian casually mentioned that she's about to embark on the Camino de Santiago. A one month walk from the south of France to western Spain. My feet hurt just  thinking about it but it does sound exciting. Want to, like me, learn some of the various was to make the trek without killing yourself? Our friends at the UK paper The Independent have some tips.

King Woman is dour, moody, dark and lush. The drone of any given song is an easy way to get lost; it's a meditative experience. Today you'll hear from Kristina Esfandiari. She talks to us about what connects her with King Woman's audiences at shows, how her "very psychic" friend saw a big move for her, and the different approaches she takes between King Woman and solo project, Miserable.
