Important Quotes from the podcast on Business and Entrepreneurship There is no skill called “business.” Avoid business magazines and business classes. - Naval Ravikant You have to work up to the point where you can own equity in a business. You could own equity as a small shareholder where you bought stock. You could also own it as an owner where you started the company. Ownership is really important. Everybody who really makes money at some point owns a piece of a product, a business, or some IP. That can be through stock options if you work at a tech company. That's a fine way to start. Quotes from Nat: “Writing is the one thing I love doing enough to commit to for the next 30 years.” “Traditional publishing taught me how to make a really good book, but I wouldn't do it again.” “Holding your book for the first time—and shipping it yourself to your first readers—is pure magic.” “The best marketing for your book is writing the next one—that's the fiction game.” “I used to chase whatever was interesting… now I'm building something I want to last 30 years.” “Fiction lets me explore big ideas without pretending to be an expert.” “The self-pub stigma is fading… especially when the book looks and reads like a trad pub hit.” “Characters start doing things I didn't plan—then I realize, oh, that's why they're here.” “There's no product in the world like a book—you can sell the same file for 50 years.” “My dream is to have a warehouse full of books I wrote. That's the romantic version of success.”
Faith and trust should be at the foundation of our relationship with God. It should not be based on what He can do for us. If we live according to His will, our blessings and rewards will overflow.

☞ ABOUT THIS MESSAGE Jim focuses on the final section of the Sermon on the Mount, stressing the need to build one's life on a solid foundation of faith in Christ. He cautions against "consumer Christianity," where belief is professed but not truly lived, as Jesus warns that not everyone who calls Him "Lord" will enter heaven. Jim urges the congregation to test the authenticity of their faith through trials, which reveal the strength of their foundation in God, and calls for a deeper, genuine relationship with Him. ☞ BIBLE APP NOTES https://www.bible.com/events/49438434 ☞ GROUP LEADER GUIDE https://page.church.tech/198c845b ☞ NEXT STEPS

Episode Summary: In this engaging episode of Life After Kids, Dr. Brooke and Dr. Lynne dive into the topic of building confidence at any stage of life. They begin by reflecting on how personal experiences and shared interactions with their audience shape the themes they explore. This episode centers around understanding confidence, distinguishing it from self-worth, and discovering practical strategies for fostering both. As Dr. Lynne puts it, "Confidence is a doing; it comes from action," emphasizing that building confidence involves more than just a mindset. The doctors delve into two primary ways to cultivate confidence: keeping promises to oneself and stepping out of one's comfort zone. By staying true to commitments, whether big or small, individuals can validate their capabilities and prioritize self-development. Moreover, the discussion turns toward the significance of taking risks and welcoming failure as an opportunity for growth. Dr. Brooke shares her personal journey of joining a challenging business group that enhanced her confidence, highlighting the importance of putting oneself in a stretch zone. Key Takeaways: Confidence Building: Confidence stems from keeping promises to oneself and consistently stepping out of comfort zones. Defining Confidence vs. Self-Worth: Confidence is action-oriented, while self-worth is about inherent value; both are essential in personal growth. Role of Faith: Finding self-worth through faith can be a powerful avenue for personal validation and confidence. Growth Through Failure: Embracing failure as part of the success journey contributes significantly to confidence building. Practical Application: Encourage your older children to find confidence by allowing them to navigate challenges independently, thereby gaining valuable life skills. My guests today are Rick Ruback and Royce Yudkoff. Rick and Royce are Harvard Business School professors who teach their students how to search for, acquire, and run small business directly after graduation. It has been almost a decade since our first conversation, and unlike many past interviews that have become outdated due to technology or market changes, the core principles they shared about entrepreneurship through acquisition remain remarkably relevant today. They explore fascinating developments in the search-fund ecosystem, including the bifurcation between funded searchers targeting larger companies and self-funded entrepreneurs finding success with smaller businesses. Rick and Royce share their accumulated wisdom on what makes a company worth buying, why the "magic is in the multiples," and how their students consistently achieve impressive returns through patient, value-oriented business acquisition. Please enjoy my conversation with Rick Ruback and Royce Yudkoff. Something for nothingDo rewards and incentives damage our humanity? In much of our personal and professional lives, we receive rewards for good behaviour and carrying out our responsibilities. But, evidence now suggests there are risks to this approach. Studies show rewards can damage wellbeing, fostering dependence and undermining our own sense of control. And neuroscientists have shown those more prone to seeking reward have a 70% higher risk of addiction, with addictive behaviour now present in almost half of the U.S. population. So, should we move away from rewards-based systems, and instead learn to value doing the right thing simply for the sake of, well, doing the right thing?Paul Bloom is a Canadian-American psychologist, bestselling author, and celebrated speaker. Are good deeds a part of God's Great Commission? We all should know the great charge that Jesus gave to His disciples both before the Cross and after His Ascension—to go forth, to witness, to make disciples.
