Is Gentle Parenting Making Christian Fathers Passive?

Abrahams Wallet

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 26, 2026 40:10

What happens when Christian parents become so focused on connection, affirmation, and keeping the peace that they stop leading their children? In this episode of Abraham's Wallet, Steven Manuel and Mark Parrett examine the rise of gentle parenting and ask a difficult question: Can an emphasis on connection and emotional safety actually become a form of parental passivity? Steve and Mark explore what biblical leadership looks like in the home—and why loving your children doesn't mean avoiding boundaries, correction, discomfort, or authority. They discuss the difference between invitation and challenge: building deep relationships with your children while still being willing to direct them, correct them, and hold the line when necessary. The conversation connects modern parenting culture to the biblical example of Adam's passivity in the Garden of Eden and Abraham's calling to command his household to follow the way of the Lord. The goal isn't authoritarian parenting or harsh discipline. It's a form of fatherhood that combines warmth with strength and prepares children to become responsible adults, faithful Christians, and future leaders of their own families. Steve and Mark also get practical, discussing screen limits, bedtimes, curfews, sleepovers, technology, financial responsibility, correcting disrespect and dishonesty, allowing children to experience failure, and how a father's unwillingness to lead can affect his marriage. Ultimately, this episode is about more than parenting techniques. It's about family leadership, biblical authority, resilience, and building a multi-generational legacy that can withstand the pressures of modern culture. In this episode: • The rise of gentle parenting • Christian parenting vs. cultural parenting trends • Why connection alone isn't enough • Invitation and challenge in parenting • Biblical leadership in the home • Adam's passivity in Genesis 3 • Abraham's example of leading his household • Setting healthy boundaries with children • Discipline without harshness or authoritarianism • Why children may actually feel more secure when parents lead • Screen time, technology, bedtimes, and curfews • Teaching children financial responsibility • Correcting disrespect, dishonesty, and bad character • Allowing children to fail while still providing leadership • How parental passivity can affect marriage • Building family identity and generational legacy • Raising resilient Christian children • The Parenthood Primer • Growing Kids God's Way Resources mentioned in this episode: The Parenthood Primer View The Parenthood Primer on Amazon Chapters (00:00:01) - What Adam's Passivity in the Home(00:00:54) - Abraham's Wallet: How to Lead Your Home(00:02:07) - Let's Talk Fafo Parenting(00:06:17) - What Is Gentle Parenting?(00:09:44) - Strict Curfews(00:19:17) - How to Prevent Passivity in Parenting(00:24:38) - How Passive Parents Can Be a temptation(00:30:19) - 7 Rules for Parenting in the Teenage Years(00:33:52) - Pre-Parental Counseling Workbook(00:35:06) - Coming soon: Trust God's Design for the FamilyHelp us equip more biblical bosses!: https://abrahamswallet.com/support AW website | YouTube | Instagram | Facebook | LinkedIn

Are Your Investments Funding Evil? A Biblical Approach to Investing

Abrahams Wallet

What if your retirement account is quietly funding companies and causes that conflict with your Christian convictions? Certified Financial Planner Mark Parrett and Steven Manuel explore Biblically Responsible Investing, Christian investing, and how fathers can build generational wealth without knowingly partnering with evil. Is investing in the stock market biblical? Does owning a small piece of a company make you morally responsible for what that company does? And how should Christians think about investments connected to abortion, pornography, alcohol, gambling, tobacco, ESG, and other practices that may conflict with biblical values? Steven and Mark explore these questions through the surprising lens of Exodus 21 and the biblical principle of an ox “known to gore.” Mark explains why he believes investing itself is biblical, while also arguing that ownership carries responsibility—and that Christians should take seriously the question of whether they are knowingly profiting from harm. The conversation gets practical as they discuss Biblically Responsible Investing (BRI), investment screening, direct indexing, Christian mutual funds and ETFs, and options including Timothy Plan, Inspire Investing, Praxis, Crossmark/OneAscent, and others. They also examine Vanguard, BlackRock, and State Street, including how major asset managers have approached ESG and corporate shareholder voting in recent years. But the goal isn't perfect financial purity. As Mark explains, Christians cannot completely separate themselves from a fallen economy. The goal is faithful stewardship: building wealth and inheritance for your children's children while keeping your heart free from the love of money and avoiding known complicity with evil wherever reasonably possible. In this episode:• Is investing biblical?• What does Exodus 21's “goring ox” teach us about investment responsibility?• Does owning stock make you responsible for a company's actions?• What is Biblically Responsible Investing (BRI)?• How can Christians screen investments for abortion, pornography, alcohol, gambling, and tobacco?• Should Christians invest through Vanguard, BlackRock, or State Street?• What is direct indexing, and how can it be used for Christian investing?• Which Christian investment funds and platforms are worth researching?• How should Christian fathers balance financial growth, generational wealth, conscience, and faithful stewardship? Jennifer Coffindaffer thinks two different people wrote the Nancy Guthrie ransom notes. On this True Crime Today conversation with Tony Brueski, the retired FBI Special Agent makes the case note by note. The first reads like a script: deadlines, threats, she will be killed. The second reads like a person who stood inside that Tucson house and lost their nerve — we never intended to hurt her. One voice organized. One voice sorry. If Coffindaffer is right, the question becomes the man behind the second note: who is he, who hired him, and who is he apologizing to?There's a colder read on that second note too. Its language about not grasping the seriousness of her physical condition sounds less like remorse and more like a document written for a future jury, in a state that does not hesitate on the death penalty. An apology, or an insurance policy. Coffindaffer takes a side. The notes aren't the only fresh ground. Coffindaffer traced the alleged kidnapper's Bitcoin wallet after the Pima County Sheriff's Office accidentally published the address in a media release. Her trace shows no ransom was ever paid. The only deposit was roughly three hundred dollars from the FBI in February, untouched since. Messages written directly to the wallet, including the family's own on-camera words about paying, were never answered. A four-million-dollar demand met with total silence. And six months in, Sheriff Nanos describes the FBI relationship as great while conceding thousands of hours of video remain unreviewed. Coffindaffer, who spent her career inside federal investigations, tells Tony exactly what she makes of that math. Nancy Guthrie deserves better than a case explained by accident. This is the conversation that treats the evidence like it matters.LINKSJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?  EPISODE DESCRIPTION In this episode, I sit down with Joao Lobo, founder of Kute Wallet , a Bitcoin-only, non-custodial wallet built for the next generation of crypto users. Joao walks me through his journey from discovering Bitcoin on 4chan forums in 2013, to building a PIX-integrated wallet for Brazil, to now targeting the European market with a product designed to feel as simple as a banking app. We dig into what makes Kute different , from Lightning-powered Polymarket integration to upcoming Hyperliquid stock exposure and Morpho lending features , and why he believes the future of finance is a seamless blend of non-custodial crypto and traditional banking. We also get into the brutal reality of customer acquisition costs, why MetaMask and Phantom overwhelm new users, and the advice Joao has for any founder building in this space right now. DISCLAIMERNothing mentioned in this podcast is investment advice and please do your own research. The show details BlackHat and Unit 42 findings that passkeys on Windows and Chrome can be phished or abused through logging, validation gaps, and malware techniques, undermining "phishing-resistant" claims. It also covers cyber incidents impacting water utilities across at least 12 U.S. states, with manual operations and boil-water advisories but safe drinking water, and Forescout's count of thousands of exposed Rockwell controllers. This episode is a freewheeling, laugh-out-loud ramble about the weird little things adulthood never prepared us for. Our hosts bounce from complaining about sticker shock, checking the weather obsessively, and why you always lose the thing you just held, to body quirks like neuropathy and random joint noises. Interspersed are pop-culture detours (Seinfeld and Silo), awkward dad-humor, and a few too many anecdotes about brownies, gummies, and napkins. It's affectionate, messy, and familiar — the kind of conversational tangents that make ordinary life feel entertaining and absurd all at once.

Coldcard is at the center of the crypto conversation after a flaw in its seed-generation process reportedly allowed attackers to brute-force wallet seed phrases, ultimately draining an estimated 1,367 Bitcoin, worth roughly $88.6 million, from around 4,500 addresses. Matt discusses how the incident is driving some users back toward centralized exchanges, highlighting OKX's report of increased inflows and arguing that the lesson isn't that exchanges are safer, but that every form of custody carries its own risks. The episode also covers BlackRock's launch of tokenized European money market funds, Binance's new Bitcoin-backed lending product, ARK Invest adding Coinbase shares after the stock's post-earnings decline, the crypto industry's growing political influence ahead of the 2026 midterms, and continuing questions surrounding Strategy's recent Bitcoin sale. Matt closes by arguing that trust—not Bitcoin's price—is the biggest issue facing the industry today, as investors weigh the risks of self-custody against those of centralized platforms. The conversation opens with Airbnb's next big move: tickets and a native wallet that would let guests store credits and spend across the entire Airbnb ecosystem. The crew digs into what a more financially sticky Airbnb means for hosts who built their businesses on the platform. From there, they get into Expedia Group's acquisition of AI trip planner Layla AI Travel Agent, which had already helped plan more than 135 million trips, and what it means for STR operators when the platform that distributes your listings now owns the AI layer that recommends where guests go. They close with Google's Q2 earnings and what AI Overviews appearing in more than 50% of travel queries means for how vacation rentals get discovered before anyone opens a booking platform. Our CIO and Chief U.S. Equity Strategist Mike Wilson explains why market leadership is rotating beyond semiconductors and where investors may find opportunities despite near-term volatility.Read more insights from Morgan Stanley.----- Transcript ----- Welcome to Thoughts on the Market. I'm Mike Wilson, Morgan Stanley's CIO and Chief U.S. Equity Strategist. Today on the podcast, I will explain why the recent volatility in markets makes sense. It's Wednesday, July 22nd at 2 p.m. in New York. So, let's get after it. The broadening trade is back and it's gaining steam. We established this thesis last week. Importantly, there's a key reason this broadening trade is likely to continue. One of the more crowded areas of the market—semiconductors—has lost its momentum. As I've also noted before, this is not a call that the AI cycle is over. However, stocks do trade on the rate of change in growth, and expectations often reach a place where they can no longer surprise on the upside. Earnings revisions tend to get too stretched, and capital starts looking for the next place where fundamentals are improving but positioning is still light. This is no different than what happened to other leadership groups earlier this year in areas like precious metals and energy stocks. Remember, I first made the call for market broadening in our November outlook. My view is that the economy had moved into a new expansion after the rolling recession ended in April 2025. Markets were starting to catch on before the Iran conflict interrupted that trend. Investors piled back into the AI trade—especially semis—as oil prices jumped and Fed expectations shifted more hawkish. Back in June, I noted that those earnings revisions were likely nearing their peak. Hyperscale stocks starting to lag was the first indication. Since semis ultimately depend on hyperscaler spending, that divergence usually doesn't last. It doesn't mean the buildout is ending. However, the spenders may be moving from blind enthusiasm to a more disciplined phase as a means of addressing the market's concerns about falling cash flows. We've seen this pattern before. Since ChatGPT launched, this ebbing and flowing between the hyperscaler and semiconductor stocks has happened three times. This is the fourth such adjustment, during which the hyperscaler stocks are likely to outperform the semis. Since a few weeks back, hyperscalers have outperformed semiconductors by almost 30 percent. Another consequence is that the major averages may trade lower in the near term. When a crowded, large-cap leadership group is unwinding, the index can look choppy even as the market underneath is improving. That's the key distinction. The index may struggle, but the broadening can still work. Over the next month, don't be surprised if the S&P 500 trades as low as 7000 before it makes a move to 8000 by year-end. Use this weakness to add to equity positions. I continue to like Consumer Discretionary Goods, Transports, and Biotech. Discretionary Goods remains one of the cleaner expressions of the broadening thesis. Wallet share is shifting from services back toward goods, goods pricing is improving, and earnings revisions are strengthening. Transports continue to show improving revisions as volumes stabilize and pricing gets better. Biotech is one of the more attractive lower-rate beneficiaries, especially if policy expectations are too hawkish, as I think they are. On that last point, the Fed backdrop matters. The June FOMC meeting told us forward guidance is going to be limited, and the inflation path is going to drive policy. The softer-than-expected inflation data last week should allow the Fed to stay on hold rather than hiking. It may take the bond market a few more data points to fully re-price this view. Bottom line, the broadening is in gear, but it may not feel comfortable because it's happening while the crowded momentum trade unwinds, a process that is likely unfinished. That's usually how rotations in market leadership work. Like spring, it's often: in like a lion and out like a lamb. Thanks for tuning in. I hope you found it informative and useful. Nervous System Hacking, Willpower vs Habit Systems, Calendar Time Blocking, and the Wallet Posture Fix Damaging Your Spine Most people think surviving a life-threatening situation comes down to luck. Jordan Harbinger did it twice, and what got him out wasn't luck, it was a nervous system he had trained to override panic. This episode breaks down what actually happens in your body during a real fight-or-flight response, and how those same tools power his approach to human performance and hacking the excuses that keep most people stuck. Host Dave Asprey sits down with Jordan Harbinger, founder of The Art of Charm, one of the top podcasts in the world on charisma, negotiation, and relationship building. Jordan built his expertise the hard way, surviving two real kidnapping attempts using the same psychological principles he now teaches to entrepreneurs and high performers. That firsthand experience under extreme pressure is exactly what makes his insight into stress, willpower, and behavior change worth trusting. Jordan and Dave dig into what your nervous system does under real threat, why adrenaline hijacks rational thought, and how to build resilience that holds up when it matters most. They unpack why willpower fails as a long-term strategy, and why building smarter systems, not more discipline, is the real key to lasting change. Jordan breaks down his calendar-based productivity method, explains how sleep optimization and chronotype shape daily performance, and reveals a bizarre, physical habit quietly wrecking most people's spine and posture without them realizing it. This is essential listening for anyone serious about biohacking, human performance, hacking the nervous system, brain optimization, neuroplasticity, and longevity, and building resilience that performs under real pressure, not just in theory. You'll Learn: How Jordan Harbinger used psychology to talk his way out of two real kidnapping attempts What actually happens in your nervous system during a fight-or-flight response Why willpower fails as a long-term strategy and what to build instead How a calendar-based system eliminates decision fatigue and boosts daily performance How sleep optimization and chronotype affect brain function and productivity Why your wallet might be quietly damaging your spine and posture How to rewire ingrained habits and reactions through neuroplasticity and awareness Thank you to our sponsors! - PredictiveMind™ | Get your Brain Pattern Mapping report at predictivemind.io/dave and use code DAVE for 10% off. - EMR-Tek | https://www.emr-tek.com/DAVE and use code DAVE for 40% off. - iRestore | Reverse hair loss at www.irestore.com/DAVE and get exclusive savings on the iRestore Elite, use code DAVE Dave Asprey is a four-time New York Times bestselling author, founder of Bulletproof Coffee, and the father of biohacking.
