For a FREE 30-minute Family History Consultation, book your spot here: https://bookings.howwegothere.caIn this Episode, Brian welcomes Craig Morrissey of More You Genealogy and The Rooms archives to explore Newfoundland genealogy. Craig details the essential resources for family history, starting with the provincial archives at The Rooms, which is named for traditional "fishing rooms." He breaks down the early European settlement, primarily driven by the cod fishery, drawing people from southeast Ireland and southwest England. He also highlights crucial records, including Colonial Office and merchant records, necessary before civil registration began in 1891–92.The episode also covers the impact of industrial change and the significant history of out-migration to the "Boston States," offering advice on tracing ancestors through border documents and digital archives. Craig concludes with a genealogist's "Holy Grail"—the missing 1911 Census and the fire-destroyed Catholic records for Harbour Grace—and stresses the value of methodical, patient research. How We Got Here: Genealogy is hosted by family historian Brian Nash. Brian helps people not just trace their family tree, but understand the history surrounding the people, places, and events that make up their family's unique story.CONNECT & SUPPORT

Welcome to Christy Morrissey's acreage. We're about 15 minutes west of Saskatoon on a gorgeous Friday fall morning. The sun is rising and the grass is wet as Christy points a Hairy Woodpecker on an Aspen Tree.Christy Morrissey is an ecotoxicologist and professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Saskatchewan who loves prairie grasslands and wetlands. She is doing important research to protect and preserve these beautiful but fragile ecosystems in Western Canada, which she talks about in this episode.Christy also discusses why is hopeful to see more women in scientific and research roles.I love prairie grasslands, which is kind of ironic because I'm allergic to grass, but I love their subtle beauty, and I think we are so fortunate to have access to beautiful grasslands in and around Saskatoon. I hope that sense of gratitude comes through in this conversation. Sarah Morrissey is a little bundle of joy on the NY bar circuit, but also a skilled mixologist who's had her bar programs reviewed in the likes of the New York Times on multiple occasions, shepherded bar programs to James Beard and Tales of the Cocktail nominations (and wins) and is rightly respected by all who know her. She's done stints at Le Veau d'Or, Frenchette, Ernesto's, Dutch Kills, and many more. She recently also started a Substack with some highly controversial posts, and that's all it took to convince me to track her down for a chat, Philip Duff Show-style. Took us several weeks to coordinate it, but here it is!Everything from her suburban God-bothering childhood to evangelical college, her Damascene conversion to bartending, trailing a Hillstone shift manager, the problem with reviewers, the breaking news she's opening her own place, and a lot more. I loved this - you can tell - and even if Sarah's audio fell out for a few seconds now and then, it's still one of my favorite ever episodes. Molly Qerim is hot but out at First Take. It's the 50th anniversary of NFL Today. TMZ weaseled out of an apology for their Charlie Kirk cheering. Greg has been itching to talk about the new Deftones album, but two artists passed this week so we're getting a thoughtful Three for Thursday. He kicks off with a track from the new Deftones album, Private Music, a great listen if you like anything they've ever done. Tomas Lindberg, singer for the Swedish metal band At the Gates, died of cancer at the age of 52. We also lost prolific Brazilian multi-instrumentalist and composer Hermeto Pascoal at the age of 89. Miles Davis once called him “one of the most important musicians on the planet.”Songs: Deftones - “Milk of the Madonna”At the Gates - “Cold”Hermeto Pascoal - “Mixing Pot (Tacho)”Jay has a new game! Using RadioGarden, Jay selects a random station from any part of the world and contestants must guess the city and country that they're hearing. The closest guess gets a point, a correct guess gets two points. Let's play Radio Guesser!Song: J.D. Crowe & The New South - “Old Home Place”Nick fills us in on some news for the week. Miles Davis's estate sells his catalog ahead of what would have been his 100th birthday. Morrissey would very much like someone to buy The Smiths catalog so he doesn't have to talk to his former band members ever again. Neil Young is getting sued, and D4vd is in some very hot water.Song: Spilly Cave - “Ice Klone”

They:talk to their Top Secret Sources in the artist and label world, and found out the answer… (which may surprise you);hypothesise about both Mazzy Star AND Bonnie Tyler's record contracts;chat to Spotify, which reveals to our dynamic duo about how much they paid Mazzy Star and Bonnie Tyler(!);wonder how being a ‘radio artist' pays compared to a ‘streaming artist';dig into artist deals: because the money paid from streaming doesn't go to the artist first;ask why the artists who ARE doing well from streaming platforms aren't talking about it?…and tangentially… is TPOM better to listen to on a treadmill than Hi-NRG house music? A brief discussion. And in the special post-show lock-in section just for our Patreon Superfans, Steve and Stuart prop themselves at the bar to chat about:The time Steve worked in a record shop for a day; and he immediately faced a quandary: which letter should he file PJ Harvey under?Steve gently chides Stu over his love of a Songs Of The Summer Stats List from TikTok, which includes a load of old nostalgia songsRadiohead are back – and how do you sell tickets to shows that will be massively-oversubscribed and make sure those tickets get to real fans? After Covid's impact, money spent on live music is up - and more popular than ever. But what were Steve and Stu's first gigs after Covid?A call for your suggestions of hard-to-file records! As ever, we welcome your feedback, emails and – in particular – any questions you might have about how the music biz works!Email us: thepriceofmusicpodcast@gmail.comSee you next week!Steve and Stuart======Support The Price of Music on Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/ThePriceofMusicFollow Steve on X - @steve_lamacqFollow Stuart on X - @stuartdredgeFollow The Price of Music on X - @PriceofMusicpodFor sponsorship, email - joe@musically.com
#skimspartnerJOIN THE WEIRDEST PATREON EVER!: https://www.patreon.com/c/TrashTuesdayPodcast Ivy Wolk (Anora) crashes the pod this week! She teaches us her ultimate life mantra and her response to her five year situation asking for a threesome: “be yourself, have fun, and learn along the way” We get into: not being allowed into the Anora Cannes premiere (justice for Ivy), how Taylor Swift is microdosing high school and Taylor giving us NOTHING during the Eras Tour. Jules lays out her master plan to bag Harry Styles, Ivy confesses her third-grade crush, and we dive deep into the true Morrissey experience. Why do bands all end up hating one another? Why don't young men write books any longer? Is the American sitcom doomed? Morrissey is attempting to sell all of his 'business interests' tied to The Smiths, because he is "tired of the disagreeable and vexatious characters" in the band. Richard and Marina dive into the world of legal disputes between band members. 'The Paper' is the new sitcom spin-off from 'The Office US', Marina has watched it and has thoughts on its representation of local newspapers. It can be done! Matt Walker has always wanted to play the drums. It was his first instrument and he took to it immediately. He's now made a wonderful career of it - playing in an amazing list of incredibly bands. Morrissey, Smashing Pumpkins, Filter, Garbage and more. His band, Cupcakes, put out a major label record, but broke up too soon. Nowadays, Matt puts out his own work as of1000faces. We talked about Matt's career, as well as his thoughts on Chicago.https://of1000faces.bandcamp.com/Time stamps:3:07: Was it always your intent to play drums, or did you learn something else and segway into drums?4:21: Who were some of your earliest drumming influences?6:51: Did you learn anything from your dad about listening to music critically?10:52: At what point do you start to expand your music playing from the blues scene into more rock type acts?15:16: What was that band that clicked for you that you played in?17: How do you get tapped to audition for Filter/what is an audition like?21:30: You enter The Smashing Pumpkins at a super tumultuous time, what is that tumult like?28:24: How quickly did you have to learn The Pumpkins songs before going on tour with them?35:15: What led to you leaving The Pumpkins?39:28: Tell us more about Cupcakes43: Did you take more ownership because this was your band?44:19: How do you get hooked into the Morrissey orbit?49:13: Is it stressful to be in a band with Morrissey?51: What is it like going in the studio with Morrissey?53: Thick or thin crust pizza fan?55:05: Favorite venue to see a show and favorite venue to play a show?56: What makes Chicago music scene unique?58: How did the of1000faces project come to be?59:48: What is your go to cheap drink?61:20: Anything you'd like to plug on the way on out of here?
The internet's still broken, folks, and apparently, AI's here to make it more awkward. Intel caught a break from Uncle Sam's CHIPS Act, cool for them, not so much for those 'flashing warning signs' in the job market. Meta's been letting celebrity chatbots run wild (and creepy), Midjourney's getting sued by Warner Bros. for stealing IP (who'da thought?), and OpenAI thinks an AI hiring platform is a good idea. Plus, an AI chatbot automated a cybercrime spree, totally unexpected. If you're calling ChatGPT a 'clanker,' you're not wrong, but seriously? Your butt probably needs a break from the toilet.Elon Musk and his joyride of companies continue to make us wonder if we're living in a dystopian satire. Tesla got slapped with a $243 million verdict after rejecting a $60 million settlement (because that's how you make deals, right?). 'Key data' they said they didn't have? A hacker found it. His vague 'master plan' sounds like a last-minute college essay, and software deploys airbags before you crash. His quest for a trillion-dollar pay package is on, and Neuralink can't even trademark 'telepathy.' They're doing brain surgeries in Toronto now. What could go wrong? On the lighter side, Finland built a giant sand battery, which is cool, and iOS 26 finally gave iPads a native Instagram app after, like, forever. We've got movie reviews, TV binges (Wednesday is really good), and a deep dive into KPop Demon Hunters (seriously, listen to the songs). FIFA's jacking up World Cup ticket prices with dynamic pricing (of course they are), and Morrissey's selling his stake in The Smiths (probably to escape his own 'malicious associations'). If you're still reading Usenet threads from '94, you're either a sadist or Dave.Sponsors:CleanMyMac - clnmy.com/Grumpyoldgeeks - Use code OLDGEEKS for 20% off.Private Internet Access - Go to GOG.Show/vpn and sign up today. Addio al re della moda italiana Giorgio Armani. Morrissey vuole vendere il marchio The Smiths. I turchi a Viterbo, lo yatch turco affondato. Diego per l'ultima giornata da Venezia. Il grande ritorno di Aldo Rock.
After Andrew's failure to help Luke with his stand-up routine, Luke turns to A.I. for some jokes. Plus, Morrissey is ready to sell his stake in the songs he wrote for The Smiths, and you know he's serious because he set-up a gmail account and posted it on Instagram.
This is a spicy one so grab the milk! Sarah Morissey is a leader in the NYC bartending world. This bish is a creative force and one helluva human. Sooooo it sucked that we had to discuss her unfortunate recent firing bc of a substack she wrote that showed nothing but love to her place of work. Do you agree or disagree with the decision? BUT Sarah is already plotting her next move so listen to find out what she's up to. Lala also brings her male grooming preferences into the convo, Judith admits the sex acts she would perform on Colin Farrell and we get so much good shit from Sarah. High-net-worth retirees are hungry for clear, actionable retirement education - but often don't know where to find it. This episode explores how hosting local educational seminars can create a consistent pipeline of engaged prospects and drive meaningful business growth for financial advisors. Ryan Morrissey is the founder of Morrissey Wealth Management, an RIA in North Haven, Connecticut, overseeing $140 million in AUM for 150 households. Listen in as Ryan shares how he organizes his retirement planning seminars through local adult education programs to attract his target audience, how he's found that charging a small nominal fee for the classes boosts participant engagement, and how offering a free consultation as a “bonus class” consistently converts attendees into new clients. We also discuss his transition from wirehouse to RIA ownership, how he navigates compliance as a growing firm, and why he's focused on keeping his service model simple and impactful as he continues to scale.
