Morrissey worked for the Inland Revenue! … the most terrifying villain in the history of cinema ... is pop music becoming inbred? … when Neil Sedaka made records with 10cc (and Abba) … Happy? Get Lucky? Crazy In Love? "A lot of women feel as though this is 'my role, this is my job, and if I have to ask for help, there's something wrong with me.' It doesn't mean failure. It just means that you're taking care of yourself as well as your loved ones." - Laura Lynn Morrissey Our hosts, Stephanie McCullough and Kevin Gaines, sit down with Laura Lynn Morrissey, founder of Silver Savvy. She brings a unique perspective, combining two decades at Fidelity Investments with hands-on experience building and selling home care companies in Boston! Laura Lynn's journey into senior care began while simultaneously climbing the corporate ladder and serving as a caregiver for her mother since age seven. Through both experiences, she learned the magic of putting clients first and treating aging individuals with dignity. She discovered that many professionals would direct conversations to family members while ignoring the person actually receiving care. That's a dynamic she intentionally reversed in her own practice. The centerpiece of her work is life care planning, a comprehensive approach treating the aging process as thoughtfully as planning a wedding or college education. This framework examines seven key areas: purposeful living, lifelong learning, social connections, healthcare planning, financial confidence, exercise routines, and home safety. Most homes aren't built for aging, and simple issues like losing ankle mobility can cascade into dangerous falls. She also talks long-term care insurance, revealing surprising complexities most policyholders don't understand. The elimination period (essentially a deductible) requires paying out-of-pocket for 30-120 days before benefits begin. It's a shock to many families expecting immediate coverage. Laura Lynn stresses the importance of honest assessments, noting that proud individuals often minimize their limitations during evaluations, potentially jeopardizing their claims. With physician shortages looming and assisted living facilities facing two-to-three-year waitlists, Laura Lynn advocates for proactive planning before emergencies strike. Her advocacy services include filing claims, coordinating with doctors, preparing clients for assessments, and writing follow-up letters clarifying what proud individuals might downplay during evaluations.   Key Topics: ●      Lessons from Caregiving and Home Care Business (6:11) ●      What is Life Care Planning? What if I told you that the secret to happiness was to pay more attention to the times when life absolutely sucks? How can that make sense? Everything I scroll past berates me with a message about finding happiness, treating myself, pushing me to constantly be seek out the good at all costs. While it’s absolutely important to discover and nurture those things that make life pleasurable and even tolerable, my guest today argues that we also need to also sit with and even embrace misery to truly appreciate what makes life great. Eamon Evans is a prolific author, writing 15 books on everything from sport to crime, urban legends and great Aussie scandals. His latest book, The Importance of Being Miserable: A Short History of Human Happiness, and Why Sometimes It's Good to Feel Bad, challenges the notion that life should always be good, happy and sparkly; and suggests that negative emotions have been historically important, and still are.Today, Eamon unpacks the fantasy we’ve been sold over the years - that happiness is something you can achieve, lock in, and never lose, and argues that, ironically, chasing it might actually be what’s making us miserable. Fear not, Eamon is hilarious and delivers his message in a coating of laughter and delicious irony - so he’s able to get the idea across incredibly well. He's even written a book about it, "The Importance of Being Miserable". Now that I think about it, the title of the book might just be the closest thing that's ever got me to understanding why Morrissey exists. Can it really be ten years since David Bowie died? This week, Pop Screen dives back into the prolific screen career of the Thin White Duke with one of his sexiest, most stylish and silliest films - Tony Scott's 1983 debut The Hunger. A story of vampirism, lesbianism and extremely '80s stylistic mannerisms, it co-stars Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve.Join Graham and Mick as they discuss the movie's place in Bowie's then-rapidly-mainstreaming career, his artiest music videos and tour promos, the film's position in the '80s neon-and-smoke-machines canon, and who - if anyone - could pull off a performance like this today. We also talk about Bowie's fabled gift for reinvention, the film's electrifying Bauhaus performance, and insult Morrissey. If you want to hear more of this - the Bowie discussion, not the Morrissey-insulting, although... - we're prepping a bonus episode on his 1978 film Just a Gigolo. You can get that over on our Patreon, as well as weekly articles about The Twilight Zone and Doctor Who, plus our end-of-month round-up podcast Last Night... Chris joins me today to talk about why describing yourself as ‘AI-first' these days is a mistake, why reducing effort outweighs everything else in CX, the difference between "lip service personalization" and true personalization and how we should be moving beyond chatbots and what the future of customer interaction really looks like. We finish off with Chris's best advice, his Punk CX brand and his very own good news story. Is it time that Moritz Seider got more serious consideration for Norris Trophy votes...or maybe an even bigger trophy? Tune in as we begin by discussing the Detroit Red Wings and their crazy shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, including production from Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, Patrick Kane, James van Riesmdyk, Alex DeBrincat, Moritz Seider, and others, a lack of goaltending from both Talbot and Merzlikins, blown leads and more from Todd McLellan's squad (4:00). Next, the Red Wings' bounceback win over the Seattle Kraken, including an all 2003 Draft Class goal from Emmitt Finnie, Nate Danielson, and Axel Sandin-Pellikka, Larkin and Danielson both returning after being hit by pucks, John Gibson hanging on for the win, and Andrew Copp, JVR, and Patrick Kane (in a classic Showtime moment called by Ken Daniels) leading the scoring charge. Also, notes on McLellan's team's offensive metrics, upcoming games, & more (16:00). We then take a look at Moritz Seider both by the eye test and the numbers this season, whether he deserves serious Norris Trophy consideration behind Cale Makar and alongside players like Morrissey, Werenski, Heiskanen, and others, how he's helped Simon Edvinsson excel, and whether MVP voting is crazy to think about (29:20). After that, Sebastian Cossa, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, and the Grand Rapids Griffins' record start in the AHL (as well as Rudy Guimond's QMJHL accolades) (39:30), and NHL news including a Quinn Hughes update, Erik Gustafsson trade rumors and what Steve Yzerman might demand in return, and a potential longshot trade target in Phillip Danault (43:10). All of that & lots more before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment (54:20) - enjoy! On July 13, 2012, 10-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins vanished while riding bikes in Evansdale, Iowa; their bikes and Elizabeth's purse were found hours later at Meyers Lake. Five months later, their remains were discovered 25 miles away in the secluded, locals-only Seven Bridges Wildlife Area, and both deaths were ruled homicides (specific trauma details still sealed). After registered sex offender Michael Klunder abducted and murdered 15-year-old Kathlynn Shepard in 2013 (using a daylight “job offer” ruse similar to the Evansdale case) and then killed himself, he became the prime suspect: he had a prior double toddler abduction, had been released from prison only months before the girls disappeared, and had ties near the body-dump site. Despite striking parallels and claims from prison acquaintances that they saw Klunder in Evansdale, authorities ruled him out in 2013–2014, citing undisclosed evidence placing him at work or home during the abduction window. The case remains unsolved in 2025, with the FBI profiling a single local offender familiar with both sites, new DNA testing underway, and a combined $200,000 reward still active.   Sources: Iowa Cold Cases, Inc.
