This is a spicy one so grab the milk! Sarah Morissey is a leader in the NYC bartending world. This bish is a creative force and one helluva human. Sooooo it sucked that we had to discuss her unfortunate recent firing bc of a substack she wrote that showed nothing but love to her place of work. Do you agree or disagree with the decision? BUT Sarah is already plotting her next move so listen to find out what she's up to. Lala also brings her male grooming preferences into the convo, Judith admits the sex acts she would perform on Colin Farrell and we get so much good shit from Sarah. Find out how her career started and why she never wants to make a Paper Plane ever again. @mozzy_sticks_87 Mentions: @dutchkillsbar @dearirving @leveaudor @tomr_richter @ernestosnyc @frenchettenyc @bartolonyc @punch_drink @chloefrechette @coqodaq @nytimes @pete_wells @priyakrishna @highnoonsunsips @mightyschneidey @longislandbar @schmuck.ny @crdnal @mabelatbell @dibartolo @darylcoke @hellbendernyc @minettatavernny @thegrillny @yaraherrerayara @lebernardinny @tacobell

He has gone from growing up without television or internet, to leaving home at 16, to tour managing for the likes of Jason Isbell, Lucinda Williams, and Morrissey(!) and making unique, fascinating records. This year he has released not one, not two, but three wonderful collections of songs- two EPs and a full length. I highly recommend all three. This conversation went in so many different directions, y'all. I am grateful for Jesse as a thought partner and for the art he shares with the world. Then we dive into Keith Moon, The Who's drummer, whose explosive personality matched his playing style, literally blowing up hotel toilets, driving cars into swimming pools, and somehow making other rock stars say "that guy's too wild for us."We'll explore Malcolm McLaren, the punk impresario who created the Sex Pistols purely to destroy the music industry, then watched his masterpiece implode when Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicious actually meant all that anarchist stuff. Finally, Morrissey rounds out our line-up: the melancholy maestro whose genius for alienating fans, cities, and entire countries turned him from an indie darling into a professional controversy generator. From drug-fuelled hotel destruction to punk rock manipulation schemes, these music legends prove that sometimes the biggest disasters happen when brilliant artists meet absolutely zero impulse control. Child and family policy expert Professor Taryn Morrissey breaks down the Republican-backed legislation, which slashes Medicaid, SNAP, and other key supports that millions of families rely on. She examines how the law shifts resources away from low-income and younger Americans—especially children—and toward wealthier, older households. Morrissey discusses how these changes could make inequality worse and what it would actually mean to put kids at the center of national policy. He talks here about his early life in Wellington (ballet teacher Mum, racehorse trainer Dad), narrative comedy, songwriting heroes and his new album Freak Out City, and unravels New Zealand's double-edged sense of humour. Along with … … how Randy Newman pitches songs for soundtracks … “the test of a good song works is if it works with just one instrument” … lyrics he loved growing up like 16 Tons by Tennessee Ernie Ford – ‘Some people say a man is made out of mud/ A poor man's made out of muscle and blood' … Morrissey's wounded reaction to his sausage-firing Quilloughby on the Simpsons ‘Panic On The Streets Of Springfield' ... solving the “fun puzzles” of a song brief and writing for “donkeys who have a dream” … the ingenious humour of John Prine, Harry Nilsson and Leonard Cohen … the moment in his live shows where he asks the audience for a story and creates a song around it – “one woman suggested ‘falling out of love' with her husband standing right beside her” ... playing the local girls schools aged 15 as the drummer in a James Brown funk band … reworking rejected songs – “which was hard with one from Paddington with its multiple rhymes for marmalade and Peru” … Flight Of The Conchords lampooning the acts they loved (Bowie, Pet Shop Boys) and playing the O2 – “pretending to be a stadium band and the audience pretending to be a stadium audience” … live on-stage application of the John Lennon “pomegranate” lyric-solving technique … “Play like a used car salesman! I need a Steely Dan solo here!” Recording with LA session legends like Leland Sklar. “Careful back there…”   Generally speaking, an artist's DEBUT ALBUM will often be quite good, while their SOPHOMORE ALBUM, in contrast, will often be far more advanced, sophisticated, and light years better than the first, in terms of song writing and overall production. While this is more often than not the rule, there are some notable exceptions.   As with asking a parent with 2 kids “which one do you love more?”, sometimes the answer is obvious, and other times it's “not even close”. And in the instances where dissenting opinions clashed, the resulting debate may have impacted the feelings of others “forevermore”.   It's time to “go get your mom” and bear witness to some “Gonz Bozonders” as we discuss the blockbuster movie magic behind “Shark Week” and prepare to “show no Morrissey” with regard to “butt scissoring” when you JOIN US as we try to determine whether various metal artist's second albums are BETTER OR WORSE than their first.   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merch and kindly leave us a review and/or rating on your favorite Podcast app Follow us on the Socials: Facebook - Instagram - TikTok Email: metalnerdery@gmail.com Can't be LOUD Enough Playlist on Spotify Metal Nerdery Munchies on YouTube @metalnerderypodcast   Show Notes: (00:01): “23 lbs down, son…”/ “That's a heart healthy #origami diet…”/ #semiglutide / “Every time I come, you're like ‘that's fine'…” / ***WARNING: #listenerdiscretionisadvised *** / #RussellsTwanglifiedVocals / ***WELCOME BACK TO THE METAL NERDERY FENG SHUI UNDERGROUND BUNKERPOON PODCAST!!!*** / “I'm getting feng shui'd with my Wang Chung…”/ #thisepisodesbeeroftheepisode / #ObiOneCanObi / “Oh it smells like green pee…”/ “The cover model on the upstairs magazine…”/ #starcrunch / #uhhhhkay   (06:00): ***PATREON SHOUT OUT!!!*** / ***COME AND JOIN US ON THE PATREON AT patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast *** / “It's like two dudes butthole fucking each other…”/ #buttscissoring / ***EMAIL US AT metalnerdery@gmail.com and VOICEMAIL US AT 980-666-8182!!!*** / “It'll probably be out before this episode…the LAST episode…”/ “Don't choke on those nuts, bro…”/ “I'm fuckin' trippin' balls…”/ “You might wanna swallow first…”   (10:30): #RussellsReflectionsMovieEdition #Jaws / “That's not Snowflake…”/ #sharkweek / “Every month is shark week for women…”/ “Oh, you mean like the #moonlanding…”/ “BTW, who owned #MarthasVinyard?”/ “Without men, women would never be mothers…”/ #Duel #StevenSpielberg / #BJAndTheBear #EveryWhichWayButLoose #AnyWhichWayYouCan / “I'm telling you…go get your mom…” / “These guys are assholes…”/ #spoiler / “So anyway, that was Steven Spielberg's first attempt…”/ “So it's like #TheShining vs The Shining…”/ “That was his 4th movie (Jaws)…”/ “Sorry, had a couple of beers…(too many)”/ #swallowit / “I know this sounds weird, but…”/ #GonzBozonders / “I might have felt a little weird down there…”   (23:23): “I forget what we're doing…/ #TheDocket / METAL NERDERY PODCAST PRESENTS:  2ND ALBUMS THAT ARE BETTER (OR WORSE) THAN THE DEBUT ALBUMS / “They're not all gonna be equal…is it better or is it worse?” / “Okay, I'm gonna make this real easy to start…”/ “What?” / Hell Awaits vs Show No Mercy / “How about Shout At The Devil vs Too Fast For Love?” / “I am so lost…exactly…”   (29:43): “Kreator…how about Kreator?” / “Violent…what is it?” / “It's not that different…it's not as memorable…”/ “Put on your 1983 hat…Ride The Lightning (was not even out yet) …”/ “I was gonna say DirtBox…”/ Black Sabbath vs Paranoid / “If we're doing a #DeathMatch…”/ Van Halen or Van Halen II? / “This is effectively a Death Match between first and second albums…”/ #VanHalen YOU'RE NO GOOD (Van Halen II – 1979) / “Maybe Kerry King played bass on all the Van Halen albums…”   (38:28): “I do wanna go back to the #Slayer thing…”/ #titillation / “You like Show No Morrissey…”/ “Progressive? From Britpop to Beanie Babies, 1995 was da bomb! So much so, in fact, that we thought it would be pretty phat if we revisited the albums of the year in a Volume 2 episode. As if! This week's Third Lad, singer/songwriter/guitarist Josh Caterer had a pretty memorable 1995 as well. His Chicago pop-punk band Smoking Popes signed a major label deal with Capitol Records, who re-released their second indie album, Born To Quit. The album featured the alternative smash "Need You Around," which received radio and MTV airplay, as well as a prominent placement in the hit film Clueless. Fast forward 30 years and things are once again heating up for Smoking Popes. They've just released a triumphant new album, Lovely Stuff, and are celebrating three decades of Born To Quit by playing the record live in its entirety this spring. This summer, they will embark on a tour with Bayside. https://smokingpopesmusic.com Josh joined us from a random rest stop somewhere in Florida to chat about '95 albums, the Popes' past, present, and future, hangin' out in Billie Joe Armstrong's basement, getting Morrissey's seal of approval, the pros and cons of sudden fame, faith, Wisconsin, and much more. "Your heartbreak is a gift."My beloved podcast family, I'm teary-eyed as I'm writing these words. It has been such a long time and I've missed you so damn much. I'm sorry for being away from the podcast for so long. Life has been overwhelming, beautiful, deep, sad, happy, surprising, expansive and colorful. That being said, I couldn't imagine a better guest for my "comeback" than the beautiful Ita Morrissey. Ita is a powerful force in the world of human connection and transformation. A masterful midwife that rebirths individuals into their true potential. Working with The MANA Movement and her own personal artistic practice through theatre and writing she is driven by empowering humanity to reclaim their innate knowing and creativity, and thus creating a better more beautiful world. I've worked with Ita at the beginning of the year and went through intense times of change and uncertainty with her. She guided me safely to places within me that I haven't been able to connect with in years and helped me to unlock some of my hearts hidden treasures, gifts and longings. Here's to freedom and love everyone. I trust you're moving well out there and are keeping your loved ones close. I miss and love you all. Thanks for your ongoing support.

You've seen the checklist. It's been screenshotted, shared, color-coded, made into TikToks, and dropped into Reddit threads like gospel. “The 14 Signs of Fascism,” courtesy of Umberto Eco—saint of academic antifascists and patron thinker of Canva revolutionaries. And if you believe certain corners of the internet, Donald J. Trump has officially collected them all. Congratulations, America: you've unlocked the full Fascist Achievement Tree. Time to panic. But here's the twist. This isn't new. Trump didn't write the script. He didn't invent the stage. He just ad-libbed the vulgar version of a role America has been playing with better lighting and smoother diction for generations. You want fascist vibes? Look to the kill lists, the proxy wars, the alphabet soup of surveillance agencies. Look to Wounded Knee. Look to COINTELPRO. Look to “we tortured some folks.” That wasn't Trump. That was bipartisan. This essay isn't a defense of Trump. Far from it. This is a reckoning with the dangerous comfort of aesthetic antifascism—a ritualistic, self-congratulatory performance that mistakes moral panic for moral clarity. That confuses memes with mechanisms. That rebrands old critiques with new fonts and calls it resistance.Because when every bad actor is “literally fascist,” the word collapses under its own inflation. And worse—we stop recognizing the structural violence that doesn't wear jackboots or tweet in all caps. We're going to talk about Reddit. We're going to talk about MidasTouch. We're going to talk about how you can be downvoted to hell for quoting Umberto Eco correctly. We'll invoke Naomi Wolf, back when she was howling at the moon over Bush-era imperial creep and was ignored for being too early, too loud, too right. We'll talk about how anti-fascism turned from praxis into pageantry. From hard-won history into hashtag discourse. We'll trace the co-opting of cultural resistance—from Morrissey to Springsteen, from U2 to the Breeders—into the soft-liberal, algorithm-approved soundtrack of brunch-era outrage. And we'll hold up a mirror—not just to the Trumpist id, but to the institutions that birthed him, enabled him, and will survive him, wearing different suits and better cologne. So no, sweetiepie, your fascism checklist won't save you. Not from Trump. Not from Biden. Not from the bureaucratic machinery of empire with a latte in its hand and a drone overhead. If anything, that laminated Eco list might just be your new comfort blanket—warm, moral, and useless against the cold mechanics of power. You want to fight fascism? You'd better start by understanding what it actually looks like—especially when it smiles back.

In 2007 he founded Mockingbird in NYC. We talk about his latest book The Big Relief:the urgency of grace for a worn-out world. Today David and his wife Cate reside in Charlottesville, VA with their three boys, where David also serves on the staff of Christ Episcopal Church. He is also the author of A Mess of Help: From the Crucified Soul of Rock N' Roll and co-author of Law and Gospel: A Theology for Sinners (and Saints). Even after all these years, he's still mourning the end of Calvin and Hobbes (and hoping that Morrissey and Marr will bury the hatchet). His favorite theologian is probably a cross between Johnny Cash, Flannery O'Connor and his brother Simeon.

Step into the world of intentional business spaces as Amanda Dare welcomes Brigid, founder of The Root coworking space in New Albany, Indiana. What began as a simple workspace has blossomed into something far more meaningful – a community hub, business incubator, and support system for entrepreneurs across Southern Indiana.Brigid shares her fascinating journey from college basketball player to business owner, revealing how she and her father (a former dentist) transformed a historic 1859 building into a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem. Their mission? "To show the business world what love looks like" by creating a space where people can connect, collaborate, and grow. The conversation explores the delicate balance of being "the vase that holds the flowers" – creating containers for others to flourish while building your own vision. You'll hear how The Root's vendor network functions as a concierge service for business owners, connecting them with everything from legal help to marketing support without leaving the building.Amanda and Brigid also discuss the power of women-owned business communities, particularly in small towns like New Albany, and how these networks create opportunities for everyone involved. They share practical wisdom about funding models (including rent-to-own arrangements), designing spaces that inspire creativity, and the importance of flexible membership options that accommodate different working styles.Whether you're an entrepreneur seeking community, a business owner looking to expand your network, or simply curious about the transformative power of intentional spaces, this conversation offers valuable insights on creating environments where people and businesses can put down roots and thrive.Send us a textSupport the showSend us a text Gusto - All Your HR and Payroll NeedsShop The Woman-Owned Wallet WebsiteWoman-Owned Brands all on WOW Directory!Find Grants Fast with SKIPFaire - List Your Business for WholesaleCreative Cash Flow StudioDisclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Merchandise remains an important piece of Rhinegeist Brewery's business, and the Cincinnati brewery is leveling up under the guidance of merchandise director Jenny Morrissey.    Morrissey and Rhinegeist VP of marketing Tracey Ireland share the evolution of the company's merch strategy from “marketing tool,” to an individual business unit.    After hitting its peak in the late 2010s, Rhinegeist's merch business started to decline. Morrissey, who joined the company a year ago, has brought a fashion background and a new approach to the business, from assortment planning to limited-time offerings.   Morrissey and Ireland share how they're working to engage Rhinegeist's diverse customer base, from out-of-town visitors to the brewery's Cincinnati taproom, to its home market “super fans.”   “We're trying to get as many skull drop T-shirts on as many people as possible for every occasion,” Morrissey said.     Morrissey and Ireland discuss efforts to re-engage fans with new products via event-driven and limited-time offerings and monthly product drops.    “We're exploring doing a lot more illustration, a lot more nods back to Cincinnati heritage and just having a lot more fun with it, a lot more humor,” Morrissey said. “And then driving sales with scarcity, essentially, and keeping our assortment fresh. It's such a good lever to pull to just keep things fresh, keep people coming back to check what we have that's new.”   The conversation covers trend spotting, sourcing inspiration, partnering with brands and tapping into a collector community. Morrissey and Ireland also share why creating emotion is key to breaking through with consumers. Plus, they share when to cut bait on slow-moving inventory.    Ahead of the interview, the Brewbound team talks through Republic National Distributing Company's (RNDC) exit from California. Plus, the trio play Another Round or Tabbing Out on the creation of family-friendly spaces, and Almanac CEO Damian Fagan's distaste of the word “taproom.”
