My guest today is Bill Mims, a graduate of Full Sail University in the Recording Engineering program. In 2001, he spent a year in Orlando doing live sound, as well as an internship at a post production facility before moving to LA in 2002 and getting hired by Sunset Sound where he worked his way up the ranks and was an assistant engineer by the end of 2004. He became proficient in Pro Tools, as well as analog tape machines. Between 2004 and 2010, Bill worked with some of the most famous artists in the world at Sunset Sound. Bill left Sunset and went freelance in 2011. Since then, he has done engineering and producing work for many artists. He has been lucky enough to have been a part of many Grammy winning projects, two of which Bill earned statues for (Jimmy Cliff-Best Reggae 2012 and Ben Harper/Charlie Musselwhite-Best Blues 2013). Bill has worked on several films, two of which have either won or been nominated for an Oscar (The Theory Of Everything-Best Original Music Score 2015, Sicario-Nominated for Best Original Music Score 2016). Bill has also worked on TV shows, including Transparent, which has won Emmy and Golden Globe awards. Some recent work includes Mrs. America, For Life, and When They See Us.  Recent albums would be the last few Morrissey albums, Death Cab, and I produced 2 albums for Megan Mullally. It's a couple of straight shooters this week.  First up is punk legend John Doe. John's been exploring the intersection of punk and rockabilly for over 40 years now (X's 2020 album Alphabetland is an incredible return to form), but his solo career is often much quieter, more Americana. His new album, Fables in a Foreign Land is maybe his best yet. Here we discuss the Hispanic influence on parts of the new album, writing poetry, X's recent comeback, and a couple stories from the set of Road House, one of the greatest movies ever made!    Then we catch up with Roger Manning Jr. of the Lickerish Quartet. Roger's career includes influential bands like Jellyfish, the Moog Cookbook and Imperial Drag. In addition to touring with artists like Beck and Morrissey, Roger's latest project is the Lickerish Quartet, which also includes some former collaborators. They're new ep, Threesome Vol. 3, concludes their "Masterpiece" series of fantastic eps. Roger shares stories from his long career, lots of business advice, shopping in Salt Lake City, and much more.    Two musical geniuses. Two artists that tell it like it is Two people making some of the best music of their long careers. Enjoy!

Victory Temple Chantilly's Podcast

"Be of good cheer: I have overcome the world." Jn, 16:33In the mid-eighties, Steven Patrick Morrissey, betterknown as "Moz," dominated the British rock charts.Known for his melancholy as much as for his music,Morrissey's songs had predominantly depressivethemes. They dwelled on fractured relationships, lonely nightclubs, and the hopeless weight of the past.In short, Morrissey was a singer who lived a cheerlesslife in a minor key. How different from the life Jesuscalled his followers to live! On three differentoccasions He encouraged his disciples to "be of goodcheer." Bible teacher Philip De Courcy calls them "thethree cheers of The New Testament." The first reasonto be cheerful is because your sins are forgiven andforgotten in Christ (See Mt 9:2). Because of Calvary, your faults and failings will never be used in judgmentagainst you (See Jn 5:24). The second reason to becheerful is because we're not fighting for victory butfrom the vantage point of victory. "In the world you willhave tribulation; but be of good cheer, I haveovercome the world" (Jn 16:33 NKJV). And the thirdreason to cheer is because Jesus will be with you nomatter what life throws at you or who comes againstyou. Like the terrified disciples on board a storm-tossed boat, He will be there when you need Him. Youhave His word on it: "They were troubled...Butimmediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'Be of goodcheer! It is I; do not be afraid'" (Mt 14:26-27 NKJV).Peace isn't the absence of storms. It's knowing Christis with us and "nothing…will..be able to separate usfrom the love of God…in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Ro8:39 NLT).Support the show
