Send us a textThe National Association of REALTORs was in the news last week concerning two policies. One was changed and the other was upheld. First, NAR voted to end the requirement of NAR membership to gain access to REALTOR owned MLSs. This is a great policy change but did the change go far enough?Secondly, NAR failed to approve the required disclosure of referral fees in a real estate transaction. This is a very bad look for the Association especially when you hear the amount of support in the Association for the change. Drawing on his experience as former Supreme Allied Commander at NATO, Stavridis breaks down the chain of command, the laws of war, the role of the Secretary of Defense, and why missing video footage raises serious questions. If you want to level up in business and in life, you must be willing to take risks — because growth never happens in your comfort zone. In this episode, I break down why playing it safe guarantees failure, why belief comes before results, and how every opportunity I've created came from betting on myself and taking bold action. Most people wait their whole lives for the “perfect time,” but that moment never comes — the action takers are the money makers. Failure is a lesson, not a loss, and regret will always hurt more than trying and falling short. If you want to win big, start taking calculated risks today and stop letting fear make your decisions.

Baptism is required for salvation. It is the only special thing we have to separate us from the rest of the world's religions, it is commanded, and the Son of God did this as an example for all who will come to believe in Him. This message shows the history of the practice of cleansing spiritual impurities with water from a Hebraic perspective and focuses on the incredible importance of Baptism for salvation of the Christian. Accept Yeshua as the Messiah, repent of your sins, and get baptized as a symbol of being born again into the family of YHVH aka God. Baptism is something that didn't quite come out of the blue but took on more meaning as it drew near for the time of Christ. Washing with water to resolve spiritual impurities is something from Torah that then became something that was used to identify the people of God throughout Judea in the two centuries before Yeshua. In the first century, the practice of mikva'ot was remarkably common, then John the Baptist elevates immersion to being for the forgiveness of sins. Yeshua Himself is baptized by John to show us the example, not because of any need, and the Spirit descended on Him like a dove. The Father even said, from heaven, “you are my beloved Son, in You I am well pleased” when He was baptized. This sanctioned baptism and showed us that it is indeed required. Those who crucified the Messiah, guilty of His murder, confessed their sin and were baptized in His Name on the day of Pentecost, further showing us the requirement for this practice. Peter had to be humbled to be shown that baptism was for all whom God will call to Himself, whether from Israel of the nations.https://firstcenturychristianity.net/baptism-is-required/
The Democratic Convention: Forty-Four Ballots and the Two-Thirds Rule — David Pietrusza — The July 1920 Democratic National Convention required 44 grueling ballots to achieve nomination, constrained by the restrictive two-thirds supermajority rule. President Wilson, pursuing an unprecedented third term, was effectively excluded from consideration due to his unpopularity and obstinate refusal to negotiate on League ratification. Ohio Governor James Cox, a moderate "wet" candidate, ultimately secured the nomination over William McAdoo. Franklin D. Roosevelt was selected as running mate, selected primarily for his prestigious surname and substantial support from New Yorkdelegates. 1918 TR

Eddie Toliver from the Kewanee Salvation Army and Marty Medley from the Kewanee Elks Lodge #724 joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about the functions of the Salvation Army and the Elks Lodge within the Kewanee community. The Salvation Army's Red Kettle campaign is in full swing, and community partners like the Elks Club are stepping up with grant support and volunteers. The Kewanee Elks Lodge presented the Kewanee Salvation Army with a $2,000 check to help bridge the gap from grants this year. The Red Kettle campaign, angel trees, and a variety of grants aim to provide food, gifts, and assistance for those in need. This year's theme is "Give with Joy," but organizers say grants are down 50% and the need is greater than ever. Innovative giving options, like the “tip tap” contactless kettle and sponsorship packages, are now available. Volunteers for bell ringing are needed—just one hour can help. Applications for Angel Tree support are extended through November 25th. The registration deadline for the Angel Tree program has been extended to November 25th at the Kewanee Salvation Army. Families with children ages one to thirteen who need holiday assistance can apply online or visit the Salvation Army Store on North Tremont Street. Required documents include a medical card, a valid ID, and proof of current address. The Angel Tree program, in partnership with Patchy's Red, White, and Blue Christmas Toy Drive, aims to ensure local children in need receive gifts this season. Early angel tags are available for pickup, allowing shoppers to participate before tags appear at Kewanee Wal-Mart. The Kewanee Elks Lodge is making a significant impact in the community through the Elks National Foundation's Community Investments Program. As this year's grants coordinator, Marty Medley, reports, the local lodge has secured $9,000 in grant funding, which is being distributed to vital local initiatives. The Salvation Army's Adopt-a-Family holiday meal program will receive support for both Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. Additional grants are assisting the Goodfellas Christmas baskets, United Way's Shoes for Kids, the Kewanee High School pantry, the Kewanee Food Pantry, and Freedom House, to name a few. Elks members aren't just donating funds—they're directly involved in delivering meals, fitting shoes, and supporting distribution efforts throughout Kewanee. Want to join the 250 local members in Kewanee? The local Elks Lodge is actively seeking new members and welcomes anyone interested to join their efforts in supporting the community. Most membership dues stay with the local lodge, and a portion supports national initiatives. If you're interested in signing up, you can call 309-852-2797 and leave a message; the team will respond with information and an application. The Elks Lodge is known for giving back to the community through various charitable efforts and is eager to have more people involved in their projects and events. Local Salvation Army fundraising is facing a significant challenge this year, with grants down by 50% compared to last year. The annual goal this season is $36,000 to bridge the gap from grants, which are crucial to sustaining vital housing and utility assistance programs for the community. Organizers are urging residents to give with joy, emphasizing that all money raised stays local. Multiple giving options are available, including the new “tip tap”—a contactless card donation method. Unique kettle challenges, like Bears vs. Packers and Police vs. Fire, add a competitive spirit. Volunteers are also needed, with just one-hour shifts making it easier than ever to help. Shoppers will spot the iconic red kettles at Walmart, Farm King, Walgreens, and Save A Lot, where volunteers collect donations. This year brings added excitement, with local groups facing off in friendly kettle challenges and special themed events. The football rivalry kicked off the season on November 22nd, at the Bears vs. Packers Challenge. Organizers are calling for volunteers to help keep the festivities running smoothly. Interested individuals can sign up by calling 309-853-4192, emailing eddie.toliver@usc.salvationarmy.org, or visiting RegisterToRing.com. The event promises lively spirit, friendly competition, and plenty of opportunities to connect with neighbors. Mark your calendars and consider lending a hand to support your local community during this exciting day of football fun. On December 5th, it's police vs. fire; on December 6th, it's Santa vs. the Grinch; on December 13th, it's the Commanders Red Kettle Challenge.

Patton, a cavalryman, carefully accepted that mechanized warfare was the future and became a great advocate of the tank, though his career progression required caution. He was wounded in WWI, feeling he had failed his destiny to die a hero. Montgomery, post-war, was an aloof but talented brigade major who gained confidence by publishing his views on training, asserting "the Montgomery way." Rommel, who married well, became an inspirational lecturer at the Dresden Infantry School. Patton failed a character test by rejecting Joe Angelo, the man who saved his life, after his zealous role in suppressing the Bonus Army in 1932.

Overview Evelyn Eddy Shoop PMHNP-BC joins Psychedelics Today to share her journey from Division I athlete to psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and psilocybin research participant. In this conversation, she explains how sports injuries, OCD, and intensive treatment led her into psychiatry and eventually into a psilocybin clinical trial at Yale. Her story weaves together lived experience, clinical training, and a call for more humane systems of care and better qualitative data in psychedelic science. Early Themes: Injury, OCD, and Choosing Psychiatry Early in the episode, Evelyn Eddy Shoop PMHNP-BC describes how multiple season ending injuries in college and serious mental health stressors in her family pushed her to rethink her life path. Originally pre vet, she stepped away from veterinary medicine after realizing she could not tolerate that environment. During a semester off for surgery and mental health, she completed intensive outpatient treatment and family therapy. That time showed her how powerful psychological work could be. It also reawakened a long standing curiosity about the brain, consciousness, and human experience. This led her to switch her major to psychology and later pursue psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner training at the University of Pennsylvania. At Penn, she felt supported academically and personally. Her interest in psychedelics grew as she realized that standard OCD treatments and high dose SSRIs were not giving her the level of functioning or happiness she knew was possible. Core Insights: Psilocybin Trials, Qualitative Data, and Clinical Skepticism In the middle of the episode, Eddy shares the story of finding a psilocybin trial on ClinicalTrials.gov just as she was about to start ketamine therapy. She received placebo first, then open label psilocybin, and describes the dosing day as one of the hardest days of her life, with benefits that emerged slowly over months through integration. She uses her experience to highlight why qualitative data matters. Numbers alone cannot capture the depth of a psychedelic journey or the slow unfolding of meaning over time. She argues that subjective stories, even difficult ones, are essential for clinicians, researchers, and policymakers. Key themes include: The central role of integration support in turning a crisis level session into lasting growth How trial environments on inpatient psychiatric units can feel like prison instead of healing spaces The limits of double blind placebo trials when participants become desperate for active treatment The need for more nuanced language around psychosis and psychedelic harms Eddy also addresses skepticism in psychiatry. Many providers fear substance induced psychosis and feel uneasy with medicines whose mechanisms are not fully understood. She suggests that more lived experience stories and careful education can help bridge that gap. Later Discussion and Takeaways In the later part of the episode, Eddy and Joe discuss harm reduction, ketamine risks, and how poorly designed systems can create harm even when the medicine itself is helpful. Eddy describes being treated as "just another psych patient" once the research team left for the day, including being denied basic comforts like headache relief after an emotionally intense session. She calls for: More humane hospital and research environments Required psychedelic education in psychiatric training Honest, nonjudgmental conversations about substance use with patients Stronger public education for students and festival communities Eddy also invites listeners in Wilmington, Delaware and nearby regions to connect if they need a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner for psychedelic related research. She hopes to bring her lived experience and clinical skills into the emerging field as psilocybin and other treatments move toward approval. Frequently Asked Questions Who is Evelyn Eddy Shoop PMHNP-BC? She is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner trained at the University of Pennsylvania, a former Division I athlete, and a psilocybin trial participant who now advocates for more humane and data informed psychedelic care. What did Eddy learn from her psilocybin clinical trial experience? She learned that the hardest sessions can lead to deep change when integration support is strong and when there is time to unpack insights, rather than rushing to rate symptoms on a scale. Why does she care so much about qualitative data in psychedelic research? Eddy believes that numbers cannot capture the full human impact of psychedelic therapy. Stories show how people actually live with their disorders and integrate change, which is vital for ethical practice and policy. How does she view psychedelic harms and psychosis risk? She acknowledges real risks, especially for people with certain histories, but also notes that some psychotic experiences are not distressing. She calls for more precise language, better containers, and honest harm reduction education. What role does a psychiatric nurse practitioner like Evelyn play in psychedelic care? Practitioners like Evelyn can assess risk, prescribe within legal frameworks, provide preparation and integration, and help bridge the gap between traditional psychiatry and emerging psychedelic therapies. Psychedelic care is evolving fast, and this episode shows why voices like Evelyn Eddy Shoop PMHNP-BC are essential in the current psychedelic resurgence. Her blend of lived experience, clinical training, and critical thinking points toward a future where data and story, safety and possibility, can finally grow together.

In this episode, Dave and Jamison answer these questions: “My manager insists on a weekly 1:1 with me, but he rarely pays attention. He's often on his laptop, texting, checking email — basically anything but listening. I've tried sending agendas, rescheduling, reducing frequency, waiting until he's less busy — nothing helps. I've even started sitting in silence until he notices I've stopped talking, but that only works for a minute. This has caused real problems. For example, he almost had me cancel a million-dollar project because he misheard me say “Java” instead of “JavaScript.” When he finally realized I was right, he said, “Every time I heard Java I automatically tuned out.” How do I handle a 1:1 with a manager who won't pay attention, without risking my work or my relationship with him?” “I've worked for a big retailer for 10 years now and I used to really enjoy it. I liked my team a lot, problems we worked on, technologies we used. Unfortunately the last few yours brought a few rounds of layoffs and my old team doesn't exist anymore and the new team is pretty much awful. They're all on the East Coast, while I'm on the West Coast. I'm required to work EST hours but also to commute to the office 5 days a week and sit there alone and talk to my team on zoom. I'm a staff software engineer and I haven't been programming much for the past year. Most of my time is spent in calls, I start every day with the same 3 calls. I live 50 miles from the office and I take a company shuttle that leaves at 7am. I'm required to join the calls from my phone. I leave for work at 6:30am, I'm back at home at 6:30pm. A few times a week I need to do deployment at 10pm. I tried speaking to my manager and to my director. They don't care. My every attempt to improve our processes is met with opposition. My manager is afraid of changes. I can't believe this is where I am but I'm too tired to prepare for job hunting. I can't afford to quit. I don't know how to get myself on track and dust off my programming and interviewing skills. I'm praying they'll lay me off so that I can use the severance to do all those things. But this isn't really a plan, it's wishful thinking, and I'm afraid that my career options are getting worse by the minute. Do you have any advice on how to get myself out of this hell hole?”
In this conversation, Andi McNair discusses the significance of creative constraints, emphasizing how intentional boundaries can enhance creativity rather than limit it. She explores the idea that having too many options can lead to inaction, and how constraints can guide learners to make better decisions and think in an innovative way.

What if the work you do every day could help 15-25 families consider adoption with just a $1,500 Christmas card budget? In this episode, Graeme Watt, co-founder and leader of Anthem Creative, shares his remarkable journey from outdoor adventure guide to nonprofit founder to running a thriving creative agency that serves organizations pursuing human flourishing. Through pivotal relationships with two mentors - Tom Ko, his "fundraising Yoda," and Michael Gibney, his business mentor of 15 years - Graeme discovered how to build businesses that amplify good in the world. From Googling "how to start a nonprofit" at age 26 to celebrating 10 years running a full-service agency with his brother, Graeme reveals how the right relationships at the right time, combined with unwavering optimism and clear vision, can transform not just your business trajectory but your entire life's work. His agency operates with a simple filter: "Will this amplify human flourishing?" This principle guides everything from client selection to team building, creating a business that treats every project as an opportunity to make the world better. Prices have come down, but they've come down off record highs and lenders are still conducting workouts with sponsors. If we continue to see significant job losses, and recession ensues, prices may eventually come down enough to make sense for cash-flow investors. Jeremy Roll, a full-time passive investor, left his steady corporate job in 2007 and has lived 100% off the cash flow ever since. Jeremy has been in over 250 passive investments.

8. The Final Negotiations and Hitler's Appointment. Tim Ryback discusses how on January 30, 1933, Hitler required the support of media magnate Alfred Hugenberg (40 seats) to achieve the coalition necessary for Hindenburg to appoint him Chancellor. Hugenberg, who sought to be Minister of Economics, desperately opposed Hitler's primary demand: holding new Reichstag elections. Hugenberg knew elections would cost him his vital seats. After holding out until the final moment in a dramatic crisis outside Hindenburg's office, he was cornered and reluctantly agreed. Hindenburg formally appointed Hitler Chancellor at 9:40 AM. Hugenberg subsequently noted he had made "the biggest mistake of his life." Within 18 months, key antagonists Schleicher, Strasser, and Röhm were murdered. 1933 Retry
Cutting Off the CCP: Deterrence Through Nuclear Proliferation and Total Economic Isolation. Jim Fanell and Brad Thayer discuss critical, urgent actions required to counter the PRC's strategic forces threat. Given the severe strategic mismatch, Fanell argues that warfighting proliferation must be considered, suggesting nuclear capabilities and proliferation in Seoul, Tokyo, and even Taiwan to change the calculus in Beijing and Washington. Thayer emphasizes that the current downturn in the PRC's economy presents an opportunity to accelerate Xi Jinping's fall, recommending a political warfare strategy focused on evicting Xi Jinping and the CCP from power. Fanell clarifies they are not recommending armed conflict, but rather a strategy of power politics and isolating the PRC, treating the CCP as an evil, pariah regime by denying them access to US money, stripping them of Most Favored Nation status, and removing them from the World Trade Organization. The most important recommendation is the necessity for US leadership to admit failure as the critical first step to repairing damage to US authority and its allies.
