This one is a little snarky folks- don't say we didn't warn you! Angela Johnson, CST and Christian Antoine, CST talk about an interesting place many organizations are finding themselves in about #agile and what might need to happen.
In Marvel's popular movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, Peter Quill is trying to come up with a plan to stop the villain and save the day and confesses that he only has 12% of a plan put together. As he engages support from his teammates, they each stand as they commit to the goal. As the final member, Rocket, stands he says “Well now I'm standing. Happy? We're all standing now. Bunch of jackasses, standing in a circle.” Does that remind you of your Daily Scrum? That scene struck a chord with me. I hear so many students and clients complain about the Daily Scrum. Yet the things they claim not to like, only reveal that they don't understand the point of the Daily Scrum. They believe the myths and create anti-patterns that degenerate Daily Scrum into a waste of time. The original copy of this post appeared in 2019. It's time to update it since the official, free Scrum Guide was revised in November 2020.

“After I took the Certification training, not only did I understand agile concepts a whole lot better and deeper, but I was able to speak to them with a level of detail that really seemed to register with different organizations that I interviewed and talked to with.” “My advice would be to realize that these things we learn to don't just apply to the overall development you can apply a lot of these principles to smaller things that make up your day like specific meetings, and that’s been really beneficial in keeping everybody moving forward.”“What this class did for me was how to think my way through some of these situations how to use some of these principles how to solve problems, how to get the team into the best shape that it can be.”

Angela’s guest this week is Ed Ballou A-CSM to discuss some recent Twitter discussions and talk about certifications. Ed is a recent graduate of the Advanced-CSM course. Some highlights from the show:“There's a difference of perspectives here that if we’re assuming things about agile coaches out there or scrum masters, that their only idea of agility is on the teams that they have been on and who can tell if that's an agile team or not? Who has been reinforcing them or that mentor spot to work on that team or reinforcing them, or at least give you some ownership “yeah you guys are an agile team” if you've never exactly have that then you only have what your reading about in blogs and tweets about what is agility.”“You have all this information but it’s really about the execution that is really looking at that team and sayings are they truly an agile team or not and who decides that.”“Experience is experience it’s not bad its not good it just is When you talk about agility, it's also not a destination.”“I do see people who have changed their linked in profile to agile coach and when I look at their experience every position they've cited on that same profile before agile coach has been project manager, project manager, program manager … I don’t think some of these people have spent time on a scrum team because what I see in their background.” (6:46)“Project management which is a different way of doing work not necessarily an agile way to do work.”
