Christ has set us free from sin, yes, but do we have freedom? Can we do anything we want? No! And this is Paul's point in chapter 8. If a weaker believer sees another believer eating in the food court at the pagan temple, they may believe it is OK for them to do the same thing, but in doing so, they have violated their conscience because they believe it is a sin to eat meat that was used in a pagan sacrifice, which Paul says is a sin. Not only is it a sin for the one violating their conscience, it is a sin by the one who caused the weaker believer to stumble! This is why Paul says, “If eating meat is going to cause others to stumble, then I simply won't eat meat.”
What happens when life takes a turn you never saw coming? In this episode, my fellow Elder Bun, Bron Watson, joins me for a heartfelt conversation about repurposing, serenity, and finding your footing when life doesn't go according to plan. Bron shares how unexpected challenges reshaped her perspective, deepened her understanding of healing, and inspired her to create The Serenity Project—a space where science and soul, evidence and experience, come together. We talk about finding peace in uncertainty, letting go of the pressure to make sense of every hardship, embracing the gifts of this season of life, and discovering that sometimes what feels like an ending is actually an invitation into something new. It's an honest, hopeful, and encouraging conversation about choosing serenity over chaos and being repurposed rather than defeated. Fire up the grill and grab a fresh pistachio muffin, because the What's on Your Mind show is broadcasting live from the Petro Serve USA station in beautiful Harwood, North Dakota. Host Scott kicks off a packed Friday Talk Radio Town Hall with U.S. Senator Kevin Kramer, diving headfirst into the high-stakes chess match with Iran, the real motives keeping the Strait of Hormuz tight, and whether it's time to "finish the job". Scott also gets remarkably candid about his recent travels to Norway, sparking an evolutionary look at America's food supply and the growing "Make America Healthy Again" movement. Later in the hour, the studio turns into an international stage. We sit down with four legal Persian-Iranian student and employment visa holders who share harrowing, first-hand accounts of the murderous regime back home, detailing the absolute gravity of public executions, internet blackouts, and the unintended fallout of the administration's recent sweeping visa pause. Scott gives a passionate call to action, offering listeners the exact blueprint to bypass the gatekeepers and let their voices be heard in Congress. Plus, we recap world-class insights from the Williston Basin Petroleum Conference with American Petroleum Institute CEO Mike Sommers, who lays out why AI, natural gas, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum are the key trifecta to winning the global tech race against China. Finally, we wrap up with an inspiring "Feel Good Friday" segment featuring Tracy Allen, founder of Amistad Worldwide, to explore how a grassroots North Dakota charity is rescuing castaway orphans and abandoned widows in India and Nepal through the power of clean water and local sewing centers. Standout Moments & Timestamps [00:01:25] Bullying the Globe for 50 Years: Senator Kevin Kramer breaks down the fundamental challenges of negotiating with a regime whose soldiers value dying more than living, exploring Trump's refusal to sign a weak, Obama-style nuclear clock-runner. [00:03:55] A Hooligan's Message to the Senate: Live at the pump, a decorated Air National Guard veteran from the "Hooligans" commands the mic, urging Senator Kramer to let the military finish the job for the North Dakota service members who paid in blood. [00:05:00] Squeezing the Pillows of Harwood: Scott breaks multi-tasking protocol to rave about the locally-sourced John & Wayne burgers and Petro Serve's famous daily-baked buns that are literally "as soft as a pillow". [00:07:45] The Whistleblower in the Grocery Aisle: Scott recounts his fourth journey to Norway, sharing how…
Good morning! On today’s show, Matt Swaim and Anna Mitchell welcome Courtney Brown from Ruah Woods to discuss the theology of baseball Opening Day. pastoral counselor Kevin Prendergast to discuss scrupulosity and OCD. Other guests include Rita Heikenfeld with a recipe for Hot Cross Buns. Plus news, weather, sports, and more… ***** Act of Love O my God, I love you above all things, with my whole heart and soul, because you are all-good and worthy of all love. I love my neighbor as myself for the love of you. I forgive all who have injured me, and I ask pardon of all whom I have injured. Amen. ***** RECIPES FROM RITA: HOT CROSS BUNS Legend has it that if you make yeasted hot cross buns for Good Friday and hang one up in the kitchen, you’ll have success with anything you make with yeast all year ‘round. Let the kids help – they love making the cross while you explain the significance of Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. Buns 1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast, either regular or rapid rise 1 tablespoon plus 1/2 cup sugar, divided 1 cup warm milk (110° to 115°) 1/4 cup salted butter, softened (or use unsalted and add 1/4 teaspoon salt to recipe) 1 cup raisins – I sometimes use golden raisins 1 large egg 3-1/2 to 3-3/4 cups all-purpose flour (I wound up using 3-1/2 cups) In mixer bowl, dissolve yeast and 1 tablespoon sugar in warm milk. Let stand for 5 minutes. It will foam up. Add the butter, raisins, egg, salt if you are using it, and remaining sugar; beat until smooth on medium. Stir in enough flour to form a soft dough on low speed. Turn onto a very lightly floured surface (not too much flour or your buns will be tough); knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. I used the dough hook so avoided the hand kneading and extra flour needed. Place in a sprayed or buttered bowl, turning once to coat the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour. Stick a finger in the dough gently, if the indentation remains, you’re good to go; if it springs back, let it raise a bit more. Punch dough down. Turn again onto a lightly floured surface; divide into 12 portions. Shape each into a ball. Place in a sprayed or buttered 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 45 minutes. Bake at 375° for 25-30 minutes or until golden. Mine were done at 25 minutes. Makes 12 buns. Frosting – after buns have cooled! Whisk together: 2 cups confectioner’s sugar 1 tablespoon vanilla 4 tablespoons water or more if needed. Make a cross shape on each bun. ***** Deacon Barry Henry is online at covingtoncharities.org. Are you enjoying this? Are you not? Tell us what to do more of, and what you'd like to hear less of. The Reykjavík Grapevine's Iceland Roundup brings you the top news with a healthy dash of local views. In this episode, Grapevine publisher Jón Trausti Sigurðarson is joined by Heimildin journalist Aðalsteinn Kjartansson, and Grapevine friend and contributor Sindri Eldon to roundup the stories making headlines in recent weeks. On the docket this week are: Terrible Air Quality in Reykjavík The last few days, with cold and still weather, saw air quality in Reykjavík plummet.ADHD And Driving In IcelandAn Icelandic attorney wanted to bring it to the attention of the public that every so often people in Iceland loose their driver's license because they are taking ADHD medication. The reason, they don't have a prescription.Horse And ToothA person that bought a 13 year old horse wanted to return the horse because it had an extra tooth. The case was taken to consumer court, where the buyer lost. The court pointed out that the horse seems to have lived with the extra tooth for at least a decade without issue, and therefore the extra tooth was not enough ground for returning the horse.Progressive Party Votes New ChairmanOver the weekend the Progressive Party, on of Iceland's oldest political parties, voted for a new chairman. The winner was Lilja Alfreðsdóttir, a former MP and minister.Man. United Owner Says UK “Colonized by Immigrants”Jim Ratcliffe, billionaire owner of Manchester United, said publicly that the UK had been “colonized by immigrants”. The comment received a lot of pushback in the UK, for various reasons. One of which is that Ratcliffe doesn't even live or pay tax in the UK, but in Monaco. The comments were thought to be quite ironic to Icelanders because Ratcliffe is the single biggest landowner in Iceland, after the state, municipalities and the church, having thus, in his own way, been “colonizing” Iceland. The Last Week In HealthcareThe past weeks have been rough for the good name of the Icelandic Health Care system and Icelandic health in general. The emergency room in Reykjavík is so full that it pretty much doesn't function. On top of that it turns out Icelanders are way too fat, and the minister is pondering to propose a tax on sugar. Lastly, a poll revealed that 83% of Icelanders want to put ban energy drinks,Support the show------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------SHOW SUPPORTSupport the Grapevine's reporting by becoming a member of our High Five Club: https://grapevine.is/high-five-club/Or donate to the Grapevine here:https://support.grapevine.isYou can also support the Grapevine by shopping in our online store:https://shop.grapevine.is------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This is a Reykjavík Grapevine podcast. The Reykjavík Grapevine is a free alternative magazine in English published 18 times per year, biweekly during the spring and summer, and monthly during the autumn and winter.
