Love is at the center of the Gospel of Christ. It is the heartbeat of the message of salvation. Jesus said it Himself, John 13:34-35 - "I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." Jesus says it again in John 15:12 - "This is my command: Love one another as I have loved you." This same command, He repeats in verse 17 of that same chapter. The Apostle Paul picked up on this as well and he wrote the same commands in his letters. Romans 12:10 - "Love one another deeply as brothers and sisters. Outdo one another in showing honor."  In Romans 13:8, Paul wrote "Do not owe anyone anything, except to love one another, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. The commandments, Do not commit adultery, do not murder; do not steal; do not covet and any other commandment, are summed up by this commandment: Love your neighbour as yourself." As God's children, this is what we do. We love one another. Love in action has to be seen in us, more so as a church, as the body of Christ. John wrote this over and over again. This, my brothers and sisters is very important, for us to obey. We are to love one another. We are to attend to the needs of one another.

"Behold what manner of love, that the Father has given to us."  Try to feel John's excitement! He's calling your attention with such excitement! Something that the world would not even admire. What was John so excited about? John is telling his readers that God, in His immeasurable love for us, has adopted us as His children, thus proving that He chose to save us by His grace. We may not look like we are and yet we are indeed God's children. And when Jesus finally comes back, we will all be like Him, pure as He is pure. And we are called to practice righteousness as this is the evidence that we are indeed God's children. John tells us to live a life that righteous and is pleasing to God. We are to live a pure life, devoid of sin, grounded in the promise that Jesus is coming back and He is coming back soon! This is His second coming that we all are eagerly waiting.

During the Lord Jesus Christ's ministry here on earth, He said to His disciples; "If you love me, you will keep my commandments" (John 14:15). Let me tell you this: You can't separate, or, you can't divorce the love for Christ and obedience to His commands. At one point, He even questioned the people of His day when He said, "Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and do not do what I tell you?" (Luke 6:46). You see, lip service is not sufficient. Your actions should match your speech. As a matter of fact, lip service is not acceptable to Christ's service. Your obedience to God reveals who you really are. You shall be known by your fruit. Obedience to God's word brings out your true color, it tells the world whether you're a true follower of Christ or a fake Christian. Let me say it again: You can tell a tree by its fruit, you shall be known by your  fruit.

When you hear the name Moses, quite automatically you would think of Israel being slaves in Egypt ,the parting of the Red Sea, and The 10 Commandments. And these commandments are what is commonly referred to as "The Law."  If you recall last week, when Pastor Royce talked about the Abrahamic  and the unconditional covenant that God had with him. Do you remember the blessings that was declared to him? God said to him: "I will bless those who bless you and curse all those who curse you."  In other words, God will prosper those who bless the Hebrew people, but punish those who curse the Hebrew race. And God gave the seal of the covenant, as sign of the covenant relationship, which was circumcision. God had set aside for Himself Abraham so that God said, "In Isaac shall your seed be called." And this goes without saying that any other race outside of the Hebrew line of Abraham were excluded from the covenant; and ultimately "The Seed" was focused in Christ Jesus, who was the same "Seed" that God was referring to when He cursed the Serpent in the garden after the Fall of Man.

If you just make a quick scan through this chapter, you will notice that right at the onset of it, the Lord talked about divorce which we are going to spend ample time discussing. And then Jesus talked about who's welcome in God's kingdom and that riches cannot buy you salvation. And then of course toward the end of the chapter, the parody of who's great in God's kingdom. What you gotta do if you want to be great in God's kingdom? This chapter is quite interesting because when you read through and study the passages, you'll find that contemporary. You'll think that Jesus was teaching about current societal issues. More so, North American societal issues.

Jesus was in Jerusalem and the Pharisees and the religious leaders gathered around Him. And because they were trying to find a case against Him, they took note of how some of His disciples weren't being careful with the ritual washing before meals.
