Life will surprise you. It likes to throw curveballs at you at unexpected times. Will you swing or duck? Lent is nearing Holy Week, and we're reflecting on how a righteous man like Joseph faced chaos with virtue. Picture this: Joseph's world flips upside down, yet once God's will clicks, he doesn't hesitate. He steps up as husband, guardian, and defender. Today's culture tells men to run from unplanned challenges, abandoning women and kids, and staying at work until 10 PM to "provide for your family." Joseph shows us differently. He prays, discerns, and acts. My challenge to you: take that hurdle in your life and hit your knees. Seek God's will through prayer today. Don't let the world's Herod choke out your call to greatness. We kick off with St. Michael's prayer and close with St. Joseph, terror of demons—your spiritual wingmen. This episode's for men ready to ditch passivity, root themselves in Scripture, and prepare for life's game days. One week from Holy Week, it's time to fight. Hit play, brothers—let's get to work. References: Holy Bible (Matthew 1:19) St. Michael Prayer St. Joseph Terror of Demons PrayerPowerful Quotes: “No more passivity, no more excuses, no more lukewarm faith. This is your battle cry, your call to arms.” “Once his eyes were opened to the will of God, without hesitation, he leaned into it fully and embraced it with great virtue.” “We were not made for comfort. We were made for greatness.”Key Takeaway:Pray today. Take your latest curveball to God, discern His will, and act—don't let chaos win. Interview by Kris PetersIn an age where people and their personalities are becoming increasingly sanitized it is refreshing to come across an artist still unafraid to say things as they are without self-censorship or undue thought to repercussions. A singer/songwriter who adheres to the old school ethos of respect and honesty rather than rainbows and butterflies, and who isn't afraid to get her hands - or her music - dirty.Melbourne based rock dynamo Envy Marshall is all of that and more. A fiercely independent artist with an unapologetic attitude, Marshall openly confronts her own independence and themes of equality and the smashing of gender stereotypes. And all of that within just one song.Marshall recently released the track Like A Man, showcasing her powerhouse vocals, razor-sharp lyrics, and undeniable charisma. With its infectious chorus, gritty guitars, and a hypnotic mid-tempo groove, Like A Man is a rallying cry for authenticity and empowerment. Envy's lyrics cut through the noise with glaring honesty, blending cheeky wit with raw honesty, as she chastises at one point 'stop telling me to act like a woman when you know that I f**k like a man.'But one look through her resume, and it's obvious Marshall isn't just here to make up the numbers. She is here to make a difference, and that's one thing few people can claim to truly aspire to. HEAVY caught up with Marshall between L.A showcase gigs, where she is aiming to strike next."The words and the lyrics have a bit of shock value to it," Envy began when asked about the positive reception afforded Like A Man, "but I also think it's because people are really wanting music like this now. I didn't write it to be popular. I didn't write it because I wanted anyone to react to it. I wrote it because I just really freaking needed to say it. And the response has been really good."HEAVY mentions the confronting nature of the song but also emphasizes the point that if you get through that initial moment of being taken aback, there is a much deeper underlying message."You can see some women who first of all go, ooh, and then come up to you later and go, I love you," Envy smiled. "You know what I mean? It's nice because I really care about women. I love men and I love women and whatever you want to be called, I love you. But to have a woman come up to me and give me a hug and say, thanks, that was awesome. That means a lot. Especially when there's not a lot of female fronted rock bands writing songs for women."In the full interview, the discussion focused on Envy Marshall's experiences and upcoming projects in the music industry. Envy shared her journey from Adelaide to Melbourne in 2017, highlighting her collaboration with Paul Woseen from The Screaming Jets, who played a significant role in her artistic development. She emphasized the importance of rebellion in rock music and her recent promotional tour in Los Angeles, which has opened up new opportunities for her career. Envy also discussed her song Like a Man, which has garnered significant attention and aims to challenge societal norms while empowering individuals. Envy also provided insights into her upcoming video release for Like A Man and her current album project, which promises a blend of rock with influences from other genres plus more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
You are standing at the gates of a fortress. Your family, faith, and honor inside, and enemies are pounding to break through. That's St. Joseph, the Guardian of Virgins, standing firm to protect Mary, the holiest woman ever, and Jesus, our Savior. Today, we dive into what makes him a blueprint for manhood: raw strength in body, mind, and soul. From trekking miles with a pregnant Mary (Luke 2) to fleeing Herod's wrath (Matthew 2), Joseph didn't flinch. He trained for it. Physical grit, mental resolve, spiritual trust. He built it all through prayer and action. He guarded purity, living it himself, and faced a world that mocked it. Today, that's your call too. What are you protecting? You are called to protect your wife, kids, parish, and soul. Satan continues to whisper lies: You are soft. You are distracted. You are asleep. You can't handle this. Yes, St. Joseph is guiding you, telling you to “Wake up!” My challenge is a triple threat: build strength today. Physically, do something hard: push-ups, yard work, whatever tests you. Mentally, tackle a hard conversation you've dodged. Spiritually, hit your knees for five minutes with St. Joseph. Pick one or go all in, but start now. Your Nazareth is right where you stand. Hit play, grab your coffee, and let's forge men worthy of heaven.Products/References: Scripture: Luke 2, Matthew 2 Catechism: Paragraph 1808 Email: themanlycatholic@gmail.com Powerful Quotes: “You cannot guard what is sacred if you are crumbling on the inside.” “Your family is watching. God is watching. Step up like a man forged in Nazareth.” “If you are not being filled by the Holy Spirit every day, there is no way you can serve.”Key Takeaway:Start today: pick one hard thing—physical, mental, or spiritual—and do it. Strength isn't a gift; it's earned, and your family needs it now. DOING LIFE: Daily Devotions For Finding Peace in Stressful Times
Get down on your knees and fight like a REAL man! Walk humbly with your God and learn that real love is found in submission and sacrifice.
Send us a textGUEST: EMEAL “EZ” Zwayne, author, Fight Like a Man: A Bold, Biblical Battle Plan for Personal PurityThe Book of Proverbs was written to be profitable to all readers but is particularly directed to young men. One of the prominent exhortations and warnings for sons in Proverbs is on the issue of moral purity. Listen to Proverbs 5:18-23:Let your fountain be blessed, And rejoice in the wife of your youth. As a loving hind and a graceful doe, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; Be exhilarated always with her love. For why should you, my son, be exhilarated with an adulteress And embrace the bosom of a foreigner? For the ways of a man are before the eyes of the Lord, And He watches all his paths. His own iniquities will capture the wicked, And he will be held with the cords of his sin.He will die for lack of instruction, And in the greatness of his folly he will go astray.God wonderfully designed us with the ability to procreate and to enjoy the one-flesh dynamic of sexual intimacy within the one-man one-woman marriage covenant, all to His glory. But what God beautifully designed is what the devil, the world, and our flesh relentlessly corrupts. God says, “rejoice in the wife of your youth.” Satan says, “Do whatever you want with whomever you want.”And the destruction that results from lust and pornography and fornication and adultery and homosexuality and every other kind of sexual sin are everywhere—bondage to sin, broken marriages, sexually transmitted diseases, and alienation from God. Because of the pull of sexual desire and the ubiquity of sexual sin, it's common to conclude that God's call for sexual purity—mentally and physically—is an impossible standard. In part 2 of this series on personal purity, Emeal Zwayne, president of Living Waters, a ministry which exists “to train the members of Christ's Body in the principles of biblical evangelism” will join us to discuss his excellent book, Fight Like a Man: A Bold, Biblical Battle Plan for Personal Purity.Fight Like a Man is our new featured resource and we will tell you how you can order a copy today for a donation of any amount to The Christian Worldview.----------------------------RELATED RESOURCESPart 1 – Fight Like a ManOrder a copy of Fight Like A Man by Emeal "EZ"ZwayneSteven Lawson Statement

Send us a textGUEST: Emeal Zwayne (EZ), author, Fight Like a Man: A Bold, Biblical Battle Plan for Personal PurityThe Apostle Peter was inspired by God to write: “Be of sober spirit, be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in the faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished among your brethren who are in the world” (1 Peter 5:8-9).The devil is the believer's great adversary and he has a singular mission—to devour the Christian by tempting us to sin against God. Satan uses the fallen world and our sinful flesh to great effect. One of his favored means of destruction is corrupting God's gift and design of sex for one-man one-woman marriage into a litany of perversions: fornication, adultery, lust, pornography, homosexuality, and more.Consistent victory in this never-ending war is not simply a matter of having an accountability partner or putting a filter on your device. No, this calls for transformation of the heart and comprehensive preparation and plans of action, from being born again to pursuing sanctification to employing the supernatural resources God provides.Emeal Zwayne (also known as E.Z.), president of Living Waters, has written an excellent book titled, Fight Like a Man: A Bold, Biblical Battle Plan for Personal Purity. He joins us this weekend for part one of a two-part series on this important topic of sexual purity. Fight Like a Man is our new featured resource and we will tell you how you can order a copy today for a donation of any amount to The Christian Worldview.Later, in the final segment, Soeren Kern, geopolitical analyst and managing editor of The Christian Worldview Journal, will join us to discuss the recent violence in Syria and whether reports of Christian genocide are true.

Fear. Doubt. Insecurity. Every man faces them. But what if I told you that the key to conquering them isn't found in self-reliance, but in surrender? In this episode, we launch our St. Joseph Lenten Series with a deep dive into how St. Joseph faced his greatest fear—learning that Mary, his betrothed, was pregnant with a child that wasn't his. Imagine the weight of that moment. The confusion. The gut-wrenching uncertainty. And yet, Joseph's response wasn't panic—it was radical trust in God's plan.Today, we unpack what this means for us as husbands, fathers, and leaders. How do we face the unknown? How do we lead our families when we feel inadequate? How do we take action when fear tells us to stand still? St. Joseph shows us the way. You'll walk away from this episode with one powerful action step to start trusting God like St. Joseph did. Plus, we introduce Father Donald Calloway's “Consecration to St. Joseph”—a game-changer for Catholic men who want to lead with strength and holiness. This isn't just another Lenten reflection. This is your call to step up. To act. To lead. Let's get to work.3 Powerful Quotes from the Episode:"Men, we are men of action, right? It's one thing to say we believe in the faith—but real belief demands action.""Joseph didn't trust in his own understanding. He trusted in God's wisdom. And that's why he could act, even when the future was unclear.""Are you trying to carry this cross alone, or are you surrendering it to God?"Today, identify one fear or uncertainty in your life and surrender it to God. Repeat this prayer throughout your day: Jesus, I trust in You. Let trust in God—not fear—be your guiding force.Referenced in This Episode:Father Donald Calloway's Consecration to St. Joseph (Recommended Reading)

In Luke 6:46–49 we come to the end of Jesus' sermon the plain. Here Jesus confronts us with a question: will we build our house with a foundation on rock or with no foundation at all? There's no in-between when the floodwaters of life come. We may have said, "Lord, Lord," but if we have stopped with words then we will not be safe on that day. Jesus calls his disciples to make a hard break from the world, including the worldly false religion that obeys man and discards Jesus' words.

I've made it a personal rule, when I'm offended, to chalk it up to people's inability to communicate effectively. It's proven to be useful and, typically, correct. But how can the activity we engage in more than anything else (with the exception of sleep) be something so many men are horribly deficient with? That's a question my guest, Jefferson Fisher, has spend decades understanding and, over the last several years, teaching over 10,000,000 of his social media followers how to address. Today Jefferson and I talk about avoiding miscommunication, how to be assertive in communication – but not an asshole, when diplomacy and advocacy connect and contradict, why learning not to, “take the bait” of others will serve you, learning the rules of the communication game, and why control, confidence, and connection will set you apart. Episode Summary: In today's episode of The MetaBusiness Millennial, I explore what it means to “work like a man” and the impact that has on women in professional spaces. Inspired by a recent article featuring Emmy Award-winning journalist Connie Chung, I dive into her story about overcoming imposter syndrome by convincing herself she was "one of the guys" to succeed in the media industry. This really resonated with me because, before starting my metaphysical journey, I found myself trying to conform to masculine expectations in the workplace. I changed how I dressed, how I spoke, and even how I thought, all in hopes of fitting in and climbing the ladder. But none of it brought me the success or fulfillment I was seeking. In this episode, I reflect on the personal costs of this experience and how embracing authenticity—rather than masking or assimilating—is the key to real success. I also answer a listener's question about what advice I'd give to my younger self about “playing the game” at work. My answer: I would tell her to take her time, trust her inner voice, and never be afraid to speak up for herself. No job or achievement is worth sacrificing who you truly are. What You'll Hear: Connie Chung's experience in a male-dominated industry and how she dealt with imposter syndrome by "working like a man." My personal journey of trying to fit into masculine work environments and how it impacted my mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The broader societal pressures that condition women to act like men to succeed. Why it's essential to break free from the “work like a man” mentality and show up as your true self. How listening to your inner voice is a critical tool for navigating challenging work environments and finding your power. Key Takeaways: If you're feeling the pressure to “work like a man” to succeed, I encourage you to pause and question those expectations. The best way to feel secure, safe, and successful in any environment is to show up as your authentic self—no masks, no assimilation. For my brothers listening: Reflect on how your expectations might influence the women around you. Are you creating space for them to show up as their true selves? In this thought-provoking segment, Pastor Lee Jenkins tackles the evolving dynamics in modern households, where more women are becoming the primary breadwinners, a role traditionally held by men. In the years following World War II, the New York intellectuals became some of the most renowned critics and writers in the country. Although mostly male and Jewish, this prominent group also included women and non-Jews. Yet all of its members embraced a secular Jewish machismo that became a defining characteristic of the contemporary experience. Write like a Man: Jewish Masculinity and the New York Intellectuals (Princeton University Press, 2024) examines how the New York intellectuals shared a uniquely American conception of Jewish masculinity that prized verbal confrontation, polemical aggression, and an unflinching style of argumentation. Dr. Ronnie Grinberg paints illuminating portraits of figures such as Norman Mailer, Hannah Arendt, Lionel and Diana Trilling, Mary McCarthy, Norman Podhoretz, Midge Decter, and Irving Howe. She describes how their construction of Jewish masculinity helped to propel the American Jew from outsider to insider even as they clashed over its meaning in a deeply anxious project of self-definition. Along the way, Dr. Grinberg sheds light on their fraught encounters with the most contentious issues and ideas of the day, from student radicalism and the civil rights movement to feminism, Freudianism, and neoconservatism. A spellbinding chronicle of mid-century America, Write like a Man shows how a combative and intellectually grounded vision of Jewish manhood contributed to the masculinization of intellectual life and shaped some of the most important political and cultural debates of the postwar era. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose new book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. If you're paying attention even in the slightest, you know there is a clear and deliberate agenda to undermine and de-value men and the role they play in society. It's crucial that we, as men, remain vigilant in the knowledge of that and, more importantly, continue to show up powerfully for those we wish to lead and serve. My guest today, Mark Driscoll, has been doing this for decades specifically through his ministry of Christ. We talk about whether or not men are the problem in society, the balance between fearless courage and loving kindness, why submitting to proper authority does not make us weaker men, the key archetypes of masculinity, Christian weakness, and why curiosity will you put you on a path to becoming a better man.
