In this episode I talk about Acceptance Commitment Training and how it can help sufferers of Long Covid. Patients with Long Covid who have undertaken this training are reporting benefits when combined with all the other strategies necessary to aid recovery from Long Covid. Acceptance Commitment Training helps patients come to terms with Long Covid, while they apply all the advice and guidance from the Post Covid Services – pacing, breath control, healthy diet, sleep hygiene and symptom control from the health professionals. Considering Acceptance Commitment Training does not mean that Long Covid is attributed to an imaginary mental condition. I am certainly not ‘psychologising' the condition; the vast body of research and evidence about Long Covid most convincingly demonstrates that Long Covid is certainly not ‘all in the head'.The purpose of this overview is to introduce you into the concept of Acceptance and Commitment. Hopefully you will find it interesting and maybe encouraged to consider it as part of your Long Covid recovery.I am Dr Tim Robinson, formerly a GP for 30 years, retired as planned at the start of the Covid pandemic. In this episode I talk about the process of discharging patients from a Long Covid Clinic. Rather than an abrupt discharge, the majority of patients are offered a PIFU - this is an abbreviation of Patient Initiated Follow Up. This enables patients to get back in touch with the Long Covid clinic for up to 3-6 months, before they are formerly discharged. This is a great comfort to patients; they do not feel abandoned and discarded. Plus, it is entirely appropriate with a condition such as Long Covid that has a fluctuating and variable healing trajectory. This podcast describes the process and criteria with the PIFU and eventual discharge process.I am Dr Tim Robinson, formerly a GP for 30 years, retired as planned at the start of the Covid pandemic.
