Welcome back to Alopecia Life and season 4. It's so great to be back, sharing about topics that are important to those of us living with autoimmune hair loss. I've been on a brief hiatus as I've been working on releasing a course for parents and caregivers of children living with alopecia. If you haven't yet checked out my website https://www.alopecialife.com/, feel free to head on over there to see what it's all about. I'm super excited to release episodes this season. Guests are always phenomenal, and I know they provide such great insight as they share their stories with all of us. I love talking about alopecia now, but throughout my life, as I lived with different levels of hair loss, I didn't want to talk about it at all. That all changed, when I met a group of friends who were living with alopecia too. Connection is important, for everyone, really. I know the last few years has really put that into perspective for the entire population. Connection to others, to not feeling alone, and so much more.No-one looks at what I do and wonders, "Gee. Why does she do this?" But some may wonder why I put my energy into very specific things. Head-On, Stories of Alopecia is 7 years old. I can't believe it's been out there for so long. When I didn't see a book that could provide inspiring stories and beautiful photos of people around the world living with alopecia - I knew it had to be done. When I was looking for podcasts that opened up conversations around alopecia and I didn't find something that fit - I decided to release one. Publishing a book and releasing a podcast didn't come easy for me. I knew nothing about either of them, and undeniably...they both had a steep learning curve. I had strong doubts, which I think was more about my evolving alopecia confidence, than anything else. Never talking about it, to always talking about it, and encouraging others to share their own stories so that each of us can help each other grow has become something that feeds my soul. To make those deep connections with text on the page or a voice through the airwaves. It's now part of who I am. Now, I'm adding something new. Something I care so deeply about that it's taken me over a year to create. My parents, who are awesome, didn't have a clue about alopecia. As we talked about before, there were very few to no resources when I was diagnosed. Over the last several years, as I've coached and mentored families, I've consistently heard the same questions and concerns that my own parents felt when I was diagnosed. I started wondering how I could help multiple people at once - families and children who were feeling lost, confused, and very alone. What would have helped my parents? What would have helped me and my sisters? How could I make it easier for these families so they didn't ultimately have to learn all of it on their own over several years or decades? Sometimes, we have to learn on our own to make the experience a better one. In this case, this added knowledge only gives you powerful options, a way forward in ways that make sense for you, your family, and your child. If we could have had a how-to model of doing alopecia, this would have been it. The Alopecia Roadmap course gives you video lessons that explain key knowledge, skills & resources, checklists to help navigate the first day of school, traveling, and doctor's appointments, and so much more. There are messages and knowledge from alopecia mentors, with a cameo appearance from Anthony Carrigan. Parents who have gone through the struggles have shared their letters to school and their insight about what to do in difficult situations so that you can be one step ahead. With anything I do, it's always a collaborative effort, and I'm so thankful for all who contributed their time and energy intoSupport the show

#AskDrJohnWatts Using Minoxidil 5% solution with shampoo, got good growth but stopped and again hair loss. Shall I start using minoxidil again? Good Boy Gaming asks: “Sir, without doctor consultation I have been using Minoxidil 5% solution with shampoo and I got good results. Recently, I stopped using it and noticed soon after that I lost the hair growth. Now, I have restarted using Minoxidil again since last week. Will I regain the lost hair? In his response, Dr John Watts tells Good Boy Gaming that opting to use Minoxidil without prior doctor consultation and advice is a mistake as self-medication may often backfire with adverse consequences. “Stopping use of Minoxidil should not have been done as getting good results again on continuing Minoxidil is not guaranteed,” said Dr John Watts, while advising him to consult a dermatologist.
#AskDrJohnWatts Does taking excess water will help in controlling hair loss condition? | Dr John Watts Ram Teja asks: “Sir If I take excess water will it help in controlling hair loss condition?” In his response, Dr John Watts tells Ram Teja that keeping the body hydrated is always good but there is no connection between taking water and hair fall control. “There are various factors that may result in hair loss conditions and lack of nutrition could be one such reason,” he said.

Alopecia is an autoimmune disease that can lead to a partial or complete loss of hair. While the condition appears to be purely cosmetic, we speak with one patient, Deirdre Nero, about how it can lead to a plethora of physical problems and can greatly affect daily life. Dr. Brett King, a dermatologist at Yale University, explains how one new FDA-approved treatment is the first systemic therapy for severe alopecia. Recorded July 21 , 2021You don't need to have hair loss concerns to benefit from this episode. If the hair that grows out of your scalp is naturally kinky, tune in, this is for you.Guest information:Dr. Chesahna Kindred is a board-certified dermatologist, published research author, and national speaker. Soon after graduating from her dermatology residency at Howard University, she became a leading dermatologist at MedStar Health in the Baltimore area. Five years later, she founded Kindred Hair & Skin Center in Columbia, Maryland where she treats people of all ages and ethnicities. Dr. Kindred remains on the cutting-edge of hair loss treatment, performing Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP, on a regular basis. Currently, she owns the only dermatology office with a full-service salon that specializes in hair loss.Topic:We invited Dr. Kindred to the show to speak to us about hair loss from her expertise as a dermatologist. Her medical practice is the first in our country to include a natural hair salon specifically for her hair loss patients. What we learned from Dr. Kindred was so much more than we expected and we loved all of it! In today's episode, we learned about the type of genetic hair loss (CCCA) that most often affects black women, how to identify a hair loss issue, who to reach out to for help, which hair beliefs are actually myths and how black women in executive positions can help normalize natural hair in the workplace. It was astounding to realize how much we didn't know about a topic that is so dear to us as black women.... our hair. And if that weren't enough, we got some bonus lessons in the importance of seeking out culture competent physicians for all our health needs. Guest Quotes:Patients fall through the gaps between what I do medically and what [hair] stylists are trained to do. This [hair salon] was the solution.I need for our culture to be aware that there are now a decent number of culturally competent dermatologists that specialize in hair loss.We will admit that our culture is a little too obsessed with neat edges. As if we all don't know that our hair is curly! The way my hair grows out of my head is professional too! There is data that says that if black patients are cared for by black doctors the patients live longer. You can't pull on hair follicles like a tug of war and call it protective. Every 'protective style' is not so protective. Almost any style can be protective or detrimental.Mentions:GuestInstagram: @kindredermWebsite and Products: dermamyth.comurl: thecrownact.comPlease support our podcast:Please rate/review, subscribe and share!!Cashapp:$GirrrlPodcastDonate: PatreonHave a question or topic you want us to talk about? Hair transplants and scalp micropigmentation ~ how they can be used together Caitlin James has a background as a beauty therapist. She expanded into medical beauty options and started to work alongside a hair transplant surgeon as a transplant assistant. She first became aware of Scalp micropigmentation at a conference in Alaska; it wasn't common in Australia at the time. And so SMP Australia was set up 7 years ago.Caitlin realised the potential for SMP to work hand- in- hand with transplant surgery to camouflage scarring, add density to transplanted areas and also work to minimise any scarring on the donor sites, especially if they have been over harvested. She also finds that as clients age, they may find that hair systems or wigs can be limiting for their lifestyle and also start to look unnatural, and SMP can then help people transition to a more natural option.Connect with Caitlin:Instagram- https://instagram.com/caitlin.smpaustralia?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=https://instagram.com/smpaustralia?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=Website- https://www.smpaus.com.au/Facebook- https://www.facebook.com/smpaustralia/YouTube- https://youtube.com/channel/UCASGkcsqFCNu22qWk1kkodQPodcast- https://anchor.fm/SMP-AustraliaConnect with Hair therapy:Facebook- https://www.facebook.com/HairTherapyUKInstagram- https://www.instagram.com/hairtherapyuk/Twitter- https://twitter.com/HairTherapyUKClubhouse- @Hair.TherapyThinking of starting your own podcast? About 55 percent of women experience some hair loss by the age of 70. The most common cause is female-pattern baldness, an inherited condition. It's characterized by gradual thinning of your hair, which may be noticeable as a widening part or a ponytail that's less hefty than it used to be (according to the mayo clinic)Generally, humans shed between 50 and 100 single hairs per day. Hair shedding is part of a natural balance — some hairs fall out while others grow in. When the balance is interrupted — when hair falls out and less hair grows in — hair loss happens. Hair loss is different from hair shedding. The medical term for hair loss is “alopecia.”In Today's episode we are discussing both hormonal and non-hormonal causes of hair loss.~ The most common cause of hair loss~ What women experience hair loss~ What types of hair loss~ What are hormonal causes~ Other types of hair loss- Stress is one of them and I have freebie for you 25 simple ways to reduce stressSend me a DM on the gram @wellwomennetworkAre you subscribed to my podcast? As the Director of Product Development, she's a naturopathic doctor, responsible for developing natural products. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Ashley: I have a redundant or tortuous colon, as well as chronic constipation. I've done candida cleanses, treated leaky guy, but now also have hormone and thyroid issues. Any suggestions on how to deal with a physical issue? Rachel: Hi Dr. Cabral- I have listened to all your hair episodes. I have been having hair fall for the last few years and am young and trying to get to the root cause like you say. I have higher estrogen and test (plus DHT). I have normal TSH but my T4 and Free T4 are low. I am wondering if you might be able to review all the correct ranges for thyroid and hormones if you don't mind. I have pieced together most of the elements but would love a holistic review. Would you be so kind to do this? I know I am not alone on this and it is so hard to get to the bottom of it all. Thank you so much for all you do! Rachel Zoe: Hello, I was wondering if you could do a podcast for health care personel about reversing diabetes with dietary interventions. Maybe in regards to intermittent fasting, correct diet changes. How to avoid hypoglycemia in patients. Specifically I am a pharmacist looking to become a functional medicine pharmacist. I see many diabetic patients I want to try IF with but I do not want to run the risks of hypoglycemia. Thanks so much!! Zoe Alyssa: Hi Dr. Cabral, I wanted to get your thoughts on Bach Flower Remedies. Do you feel they “work”? Ryan: Hello Dr Cabral! Hope this finds you well. My question is supplementing certain electrolytes and getting panic, anxiety and a general out of body type sensation. Basically what seems to be happening to me is sometimes when I take some sea salt in mountain valley spring water I get these symptoms. This has been happening on and off for two years. I have changed salts but it doesn't seem to be the salt, it's me. It has happened the last few days while trying a new salt out. I won't name the company that makes it but it contains sodium chloride (1000mg), potassium chloride (200mg) and magnesium Malate (60mg). These are pretty good forms to my knowledge. But once again has happened with other products. And sometimes even equi life. It's usually when I'm drinking something though. What could this be from? I did neurotransmitter testing last year, everything was normal beside very high cortisol. My electrolytes were fairly balanced in a hair tissue test as well. I supplemented to correct any minor issues from that HTMA too. I am not sure what is causing the massive anxiety and panic feeling. Would love your feedback, thanks a lot! Joey: Hello Dr. Cabral, what do you think about the "Active EMF Protection Technology" and its claims to stop the body responding to EMF, by EMF being neutralised at a cell level. Is it a total scam?
