That's precisely what happened when a new subscriber sent in some thought-provoking questions about content creation that I knew would benefit everyone in our audience.Starting your content journey can feel overwhelming, particularly when faced with decisions like whether to begin with audio-only or video podcasting. Drawing from my experience of publishing over 1,500 episodes, I share why I recommend starting with whatever format makes you most comfortable. I began with just a $20 microphone (which now sits on my mantle as a reminder of how far I've come), and there's no shame in starting simple. The key is getting started and building confidence before adding complexity. We also dive into crucial strategic questions, such as when to start monetizing your content (hint: make small asks from day one), what consistency really means for different creators, and whether platforms like Patreon are worth exploring. I share candid insights about why I've never used Patreon myself but know creators who've found great success with it. Additionally, I share my favorite content planning system—the PrepEm method—that helps creators integrate content into their lives rather than letting content creation dominate their schedule.Whether you're just starting out or looking to elevate your existing content strategy, this episode offers practical advice without the fluff. If your structure is perfect on paper, but your story still falls flat, this might be what you're missing.Have you ever structured a story with all the right pieces, but something still feels flat? You check all the boxes on paper:✅ Inciting incident✅ Progressive complications✅ Turning point✅ Crisis✅ Climax✅ ResolutionAnd yet it still falls flat. They mostly align, probably, you're pretty sure. But somehow, they're not working together the way they should. The turning point doesn't pack the right punch. The crisis doesn't feel devastating enough, even though all is technically lost. The climax doesn't feel like a cathartic payoff, but a gentle womp-womp.All the pieces are there. So what went wrong? Here's the thing: in order for the six elements of story to work, you have to understand your character's goal. Most writers have a vague sense of what their protagonist generally wants. But that's not enough. You need to know specifically the thing that they want—and the thing they don't want.So in this episode, I'm putting the goal under the microscope. You'll learn:Why it's not enough to know what your character wantsA super-simple framework for a character's goal (seriously, it's ridiculously easy)How that framework summarizes the meaning of the entire storyAnd how the goal glues all six elements of story together, driving the entire story from inciting incident to resolutionWithout a clearly defined goal, all the structure in the world won't make your story come alive. With it, everything else falls neatly into place.Dig deeper with these related episodes:Inciting incident (qualities & traps)Progressive complications (qualities)Progressive complications (traps)Content genresSend me a Text Message!Support the showRate, Review, & Follow on Apple Podcasts "I love Alice and Your Next Draft." Send me a Text Message!Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth! Be honest, when is the last time you prayed for meek? Are you seeking meek? What comes to mind when you paint a picture of meek? Well meek is weak right? Blessed are the weak for they shall become the doormats of life and everyone will walk all over them. In fact Webster defines meek as TOO submissive. Blessed are the spineless, for they never stick up for their rights. Blessed are those who never take a stand. Webster calls them spiritless and deficient in courage. But Jesus calls them blessed.Perhaps as much or maybe even more so than a heart that leans toward mourning today, we need a heart that leans towards meek. But maybe, meek is a bit different from what we think? Maybe it really is true, mighty are the meek.

Dr. Ravi Kamepalli made a startling realization that changed everything: bacteria aren't the enemy. As both an infectious disease specialist and wound care physician, he witnessed firsthand how traditional medicine's war on microbes was failing patients catastrophically. In this profound conversation, he unveils his revolutionary "disease triangles" framework that connects our immune system, lipid metabolism, and microbiome in ways that transform how we understand healing. The statistics he shares will shock you: diabetic foot amputations have a higher five-year mortality rate than breast cancer. While diabetes costs healthcare systems $237 billion annually compared to cancer's $80 billion, we're attacking symptoms instead of root causes. Dr. Kamepalli explains his concept of "energy toxicity" - how excess stored energy triggers inflammatory cascades that turn our own immune systems against us.Through his personal journey of losing 50 pounds and dramatically reducing his LP(a) levels, he demonstrates that supposedly "genetic" markers are actually nutritionally modifiable. His approach integrates metabolic interventions with wound care, using continuous glucose monitoring, food logging, and remote patient tracking to address the underlying metabolic dysfunction that prevents healing. This isn't just about wound care - it's about reimagining medicine itself. Dr. Kamepalli advocates for moving beyond "mass medicine mindset" toward personalized, n-of-one healthcare that empowers patients with tools, tracking, and understanding rather than simply prescribing interventions. His vision extends from revolutionizing American healthcare to building sustainable systems in rural India.BIG IDEA"We cannot kill bacteria and keep the humans alive - we need to learn how to survive together, and that survival depends on fixing our metabolic dysfunction, not declaring war on microbes."Dr. Ravi Kamepalli Contact InfoWebsite: https://nobadbugs.com/Social Media: @WoundPhysicianWebsite: ColigoMed.comSociety for Metabolic Health Practitioners SMHP.orgSend Dr. Ovadia a Text Message. It touches our minds, bodies, and spirits, and it doesn't follow tidy stages or timelines. Without understanding this, we risk judging ourselves and suffering more than we need to.In this episode, master certified life coach Krista St. Germain shares how the sudden loss of her husband transformed her understanding of grief. In fact, this may be the wine that convinces your non-wine drinking friends that wine can be awesome. Most often used as a blending grape to add fruity aromas and softness to more tannic wines, on its own, Cinsault is a light, fruity, thoroughly enjoyable wine that belongs on your wine list. Perfect for cookouts and parties! Cinsault is also a wine known by many different names and is grown all over the world, and you probably have had it more than you know because of how often it is blended into red wine. And, evidently, if you are a big escargot fan, this is the wine for you! Discover how unprocessed emotions literally lodge in your cellular memory and learn the revolutionary SERVE framework that transforms grief from suffering into authentic self-discovery.What You'll LearnThe physiological difference between normal grief and complex griefWhy traditional therapy often fails for long-term grieversHow childhood survival patterns create people-pleasing behaviors that block authentic healingThe SERVE framework: a step-by-step system for releasing trapped emotionsReal transformation stories, including a client who healed from 20 years of grief in monthsSigns that indicate you may be experiencing complex griefKey TakeawaysUnderstanding Grief as Physiological Grief isn't just emotional—it's a whole-body experience that triggers biological survival responses. When unexpressed, these emotions literally lodge in your cells and emerge at unexpected times through triggers. The People-Pleasing Pattern Many who struggle with complex grief developed people-pleasing survival mechanisms in childhood. These patterns, formed to maintain conditional love, prevent authentic self-expression and proper emotional processing. The SERVE FrameworkS - Surrender to feelings and emotions (with proper support)E - Engage with supportive community (like elephants protecting their grieving)R - Reframe your story about the lossV - Vision for who you want to becomeE - Express your authentic self in the worldInstead of seeing grief as something to overcome, honor it as a testament to love. Perhaps we need to pray that God would help us be tenderly moved.  When we die and stand before Jesus and he asks us, "How did you feel about the suffering around you?" What will you say? Jesus felt enough cmpssn for Jerusalem to weep. He wept for every broken person in Jerusalem. He wept for their loss. He wept for people broken by sexual sin and financial greed. He wept for people who didn't love their neighbors and wept for hearts filled with unforgiving bitterness. He wept for people missing God's dreams for their lives.Blessed are those who mourn? Send me a Text Message! When Jesus showed up, on that mountain-top, the people who gathered around were going through a time of deep darkness. While some Jewish leaders  experienced an element of prosperity and security, most of them were politically, religiously, and economically oppressed by the Roman Government. High taxes, religious restrictions, crucifixions were common. Most people knew someone who had been crucified. And then Jesus shows up.  Remember the report from the last part of Matthew 4? Jesus is proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom; healing people, exhibiting the power of God and telling people about the blessings of heaven breaking on earth. And the news spread and crowds gathered. There were crowds of people who had been broken and experienced loss and given up hope. People who wondered if God was gone and how far they werefrom the blessed life and I think Jesus was telling them, "Don't quit, you are not so far."
