What if the secret to navigating life's uncertainties isn't about finding quick answers, but about embracing the questions themselves? In this episode of Glass Ceilings and Sticky Floors, Erica Rooney sits down with Elizabeth Weingarten, author of How to Fall in Love With Questions. Elizabeth's unique career path, spanning journalism, public policy, behavioral science, and tech, is driven by a lifelong curiosity about why people behave the way they do and how to design spaces where everyone can thrive.Together, they dive into the art of embracing uncertainty by loving the questions—a liberating approach that moves beyond the often-unrealistic expectation of "embracing uncertainty" in difficult times. Elizabeth shares powerful strategies for navigating life's messy middles, from career pivots to personal crises, by reframing how we interact with the unknown.Inside the Episode:The "Messy Middle": How curiosity has connected Elizabeth's non-linear career path across diverse fields.Beyond Embracing Uncertainty: Discovering why "loving the questions" offers a more authentic and liberating path forward. The Charlatans of Certainty: Identifying and avoiding sources that offer quick, often misleading, answers to deep personal questions. The "Questions Map": A powerful tool to identify, refine, and commit to the right questions for clarity and progress.Cultivating a Questions Practice: The four key elements—curiosity, conversation, community, and commitment—for transforming your relationship with uncertainty.Finding Courage in the Questions: How shared questions and community can provide the strength to move forward, even when answers are elusive.Redefining Self-Worth: A crucial question for women in particular: how to define your self-worth outside of achievements and accomplishments. If you're ready to transform your anxieties about the unknown into a journey of deeper understanding and empowered action, this episode is your guide.Connect with Elizabeth on LinkedIn BUY THE BOOK - Glass Ceilings and Sticky FloorsBe a Book Launch Insider!!!My FREE 5x5 Starter Kit for LinkedInFREE WEEKLY SUCCESS PLANNERJoin our Facebook Group! In this episode, Derek sits down with our fearless leader, Eric Clark's cousin, Jeremy Clark. Jeremy is someone Eric has looked up to and admired as a deer hunter for several years. Eric has long talked about Jeremy's effectiveness in the deer woods and was thrilled to get this conversation lined up. Jeremy starts off discussing his first bow kill on a beautiful P&Y buck, which came together all too easily. This fast and successful start to Jeremy's hunting career led him to quickly focus on holding out for trophy bucks. As a result, he lost many opportunities to hone and practice the finer skills of pulling off successful shots and kills with archery equipment. Then Jeremy dives into some tactics he uses on private ground, where he has permission to hunt, vs. the public marshes he hunts. He discusses how and why he uses trail cameras on both public and private and the type of set ups he uses to put himself in the chips. Jeremy shares a story of a giant 10-point he took this past season with his longbow. His story illustrates not only how to effectively set up to intercept cruising bucks searching for does, but also the importance of being confident in your set up. In Jeremy's story, he had originally chosen a tree to hunt out of during off season scouting, but after setting up for his hunt, he quickly realized that there was a better option just 30-40 yards away, so without hesitation, he pulled his stand and made the move. This move shortly led to a close encounter and an even closer shot on a mature buck. Jeremy also talks about tactics for getting into deer on public ground and not wasting your time hunting spots that aren't “in it”. He lays down some great ideas and thoughts on scouting your way into the woods and knowing when to hang and spend time. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Watch Out For This Chinese Stock Scam! Yes, there's another scam out there trying to part you from your hard-earned money. This has happened many times in recent years and it's occurred in very small Chinese stocks that are vulnerable to manipulation. For some reason some US investors see these and think they've hit it big. US regulators try their best, but typically cannot get access to information in China to go after these people. They're so good they trick people who should know better like businesspeople and even a university professor lost $80,000 in the scam. Their advertisements show up on social media or in messages on WhatsApp and they contain investment advice that looks very convincing with the alure of big, quick returns. They trick investors into thinking that this company is on the verge of something very big and they show that there are already short-term gains, which are engineered by the scammers through manipulative trading. The hucksters come from Malaysia, Taiwan and other places around the world. Some have been so bold that for some investors who lost money, they come back with a second better offer to make up losses on the first investment. Obviously, these people have no shame and the only thing I can recommend is to stay away from small Chinese stocks, especially if you see them advertised on social media. Remember the old saying if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Is The Current 401K System Out of Date? The current 401(k) system was first established 42 years ago in 1978 when the use of normal pension plans was in place and when people still worked for a single employer for most of their career. This change in 1978 was beneficial to both the employees and employers, because it gave employees control over their retirement plan and reduced the long-term financial risk for many companies with underfunded pension plans that caused multiple problems form companies during the 2008 financial crisis. Today, times have changed and employees might experience over their 40 years plus work career different jobs that may include side gigs, the launch of a business or two and potentially a change in their job that could take place as much as 12 times over their career. The benefit for employees of the 401(k) is it gives people the ability to control their retirement. If they do leave an employer, they can take their retirement with them and invest it as they see best. The problem of today with changing jobs so many times is unfortunately these employees decide to take and use the money, even though the penalties and taxes due are sometimes as high as 50%. In my opinion, there is not one good reason why you should be taking your retirement money early as you'll pay for it many times over if you reach retirement with little or no retirement funds. Believe me, it is hard being older, but it is devastating to be older with no retirement funds. It has been estimated that frequent job changes over a career can cost as much as $300,000 in retirement savings. I like the new system that has made auto enrollment the default for employees starting a new job, but there is talk that they also want to require when a worker leaves an employer that their 401(k) automatically follows them to the new job and it should contain the same contribution rates as well. I think this is a terrible idea as it could get employees that are changing jobs locked into a terrible new 401(k). It could perhaps be additional administrative work for the new employer who already has enough to take care of when you include all the regulations, they have along with health insurance and current retirement plan administration. Being an employer myself one would not believe how much employers have to do already. The Unknown Risk of the S&P 500 Many people love investing in the S&P 500 because the recent performance has been very strong. We have talked in the past about the over concentration of technology in the index, but I was shocked to learn that 71% or roughly 351 companies in the index report either non-GAAP income or non-GAAP earnings-per-share. This is dangerous for investors because you're not comparing apples to apples and 89% of those 351 companies that made adjustments had results that appeared better. Wall Street has forced companies to continue to report higher and higher earnings each year and sometimes each quarter or else the stock gets pulverized. Non GAAP numbers were supposed to be allowed to explain extenuating or extraordinary circumstances like a factory fire or a sale of a division, but companies have abused the rule and exclude items like stock based compensation, amortization of intangible assets and currency fluctuations. The one that bugs me the most is restructuring charges that occur every year. For example, Oracle has had a restructuring charge for the past five years. Unfortunately, the SEC is absent on enforcing the rules and non-GAAP earnings have just about become the standard. The problem for investors is with no standard, you cannot compare true earnings of a company. If you have been investing as long as I have, you'll remember the last time the abuse of non-GAAP earnings was during the tech boom and bust. Some people say we are too conservative with our investing and we are missing out on some big gains, but I do believe fundamental investing and understanding the true numbers of a company is far safer and it should produce better returns in the long run. Financial Planning: What is the Net Investment Income Tax? The Net Investment Income Tax (NIIT) is a 3.8% federal surtax that began in 2013 under the Affordable Care Act, targeting high-income individuals. It applies to any net investment income that exceeds a single taxpayer's modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) of $200,000 or $250,000 for married couples filing jointly. Crucially, these thresholds are not indexed for inflation, so while they may have seemed high in 2013, today they would equal roughly $270,000 and $337,500 in 2025 had they been indexed for inflation, meaning more taxpayers are caught by the tax over time. Net investment income includes interest, dividends, capital gains, rental income, passive business income, and the earnings portion of non-qualified annuity distributions. While non-investment income sources such as wages, IRA withdrawals or conversions, and active business profits aren't directly subject to NIIT, realizing large amounts of those sources can push your MAGI above the threshold, thereby exposing your investment income to this additional tax. Also keep in mind, most investment income is still taxed as ordinary income as well. Only long-term capital gains and qualified dividends receive the lower capital gain tax treatment, but all investment income may trigger the NIIT if income exceeds the thresholds. Sharp Pins is the solo project of 20-year-old Kai Slater, who also runs a zine called Hallogallo. Based in Chicago, he started the zine during the height of the coronavirus pandemic as a teenager, overwhelmed and frustrated with a life dominated by screens. So, both his music and zine are analog, made with tape recorders, photo copiers, and type writers. KEXP’s Dusty Henry talks with Slater about his music and the thriving DIY scene in Chicago. “The way that you remain young is by staying in touch with your creative side,” Slater says in the interview. “If I were to stop that, I would surely die,” he adds with a chuckle. Sharp Pins’s album Radio DDR came out March, 21 2025 on Perennial Records. A pesar de tener un personaje inclusivo, la película fracasa debido a decisiones ilógicas que están para generar una tensión que no funciona y que se siente artificial.

Why Rack Pulls RockTop‑end strength & thickness – the shortened range lets you load ~20 % heavier than floor deadlifts, overloading glutes, spinal erectors & upper traps. Target sticking points – set the pins just below the spot where your deadlift usually stalls. Lower‑back friendly – the higher start position reduces shear stress if you're rehabbing or just want extra volume without beating yourself up. Eric Kim mantra: “Heavy partials forge full‑range courage!” — let the bar teach your nervous system what mega‑poundage feels like. 2. Set‑Up (First‑Principles Style)ItemEric Kim CueDetailsRack height“Pins at power‑zone: mid‑shin → knee → mid‑thigh.”Start just below knees for most lifters. Go higher (mid‑thigh) only for supra‑max overload singles. Spine & lats“Chest proud, lats on like airplane wings.”Neutral/arched back; pull bar into thighs to lock lats.3. The Six‑Step Eric Kim PullBrace & Breathe – Big belly breath ↔ brace 360°; think “inflate the weight belt.”Hinge & Engage – Push hips back until shoulders hover just in front of bar; soft knees.Launch – Drive feet through floor, snap hips forward; bar scrapes thighs the entire way.Lockout Authority – Stand tall, squeeze glutes & traps hard for 1 s, never hyper‑extend.Controlled Descent – Reverse‑hinge; set bar gently on pins/blocks (respect the gym gear!). Reset & Repeat – Let the bar settle; re‑brace before the next rep.4. What if the darkness could hold you down, paralyze you, and make you feel completely helpless? This story takes you into the terrifying world of a man who becomes the victim of an entity that seems to feed off his fear and immobilizes him night after night. It's not just sleep paralysis—it's something far darker. As the episodes become more frequent and intense, the man starts to feel the entity even when awake. It's no longer confined to the shadows of the night; it's following him into his everyday life. Is it a manifestation of his worst fears, or is there truly something paranormal at play? The boundaries between reality and nightmare blur as the entity tightens its grip on his life, forcing him to confront not only the haunting but the very nature of his own fears.

Tesla's (TSLA) massive slide to the downside pulled the SPX down with it. However, as Kevin Green points out, a bounce off the lows kept the worst possible technical scenario off the table. The index came just short of the 6,000 level at the highs. Kevin also warns of seasonal volatility trends coming into play, which includes the Fed's interest rate meeting later this month.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. Send us a textAdam Smith's pin factory example from "The Wealth of Nations" demonstrates how dividing labor into specialized tasks dramatically increases productivity. Ten workers specializing in different aspects of pin-making could produce 48,000 pins daily, while individually they might struggle to make even 20 pins each—a productivity increase of at least 240 times. This division of labor, Smith argued, is limited by the extent of the market.Transaction costs—expenses associated with exchanging goods across distances—determine this market extent. As railroads, steamships, and eventually air freight reduced these costs, pin manufacturing evolved from numerous small local producers to global consolidation. The largest pin producer today, Prim-Dritz Corporation (headquartered in South Carolina), conducts most manufacturing in Asia. Modern pin factory workers now produce approximately 800,000 pins daily—200 times more than in Smith's era. This transformation wasn't about "exporting jobs" but rather the natural evolution of specialized production. Multiple attempts to form price cartels in the pin industry failed as producers leveraging greater division of labor could always undercut competitors. The pattern we see in pins repeats across countless industries: as transaction costs fall, markets expand, allowing for increased specialization and productivity.Understanding this relationship between division of labor and market size helps explain why some manufacturing concentrates geographically, why attempting to "bring back" certain industries is economically challenging, and why consumer prices have fallen for many goods. Smith's insight continues to provide a framework for understanding economic trends in our increasingly interconnected global economy. Links:Dutton, H. I., and S. R. H. This week's Talkhouse Podcast is kind of a dream episode for me, because I managed to wrangle two of my favorite songwriter/performer/lyricists ever into a conversation, Matt Berninger and Alan Sparhawk. Sparhawk first came to my attention way back in the early ‘90s with his band Low. Over the course of 30-ish years, he and his wife, Mimi Parker, created an almost indescribably stunning body of work. The early days were characterized by slow, spare, minimalist songs, but over the decades, Low blossomed in a hundred beautiful ways, from stark, almost confrontational music made with Steve Albini to some of the sweetest pop songs you'll ever hear to their final incarnation, in which they organically integrated some harsh electronics. It's hard to believe they went so long and stayed so true, but they did. It's a pretty perfect catalog. Then, in 2022, Parker died of cancer. Sparhawk worked through some of his grief by pushing right back into music, first with 2024's White Roses, My God, a dense, electronics-heavy album that sounds like confusion itself. Now, just months later, he's set to release another album, this one called With Trampled By Turtles. The title references the Duluth band that backed him on it, and the songs themselves offer a much more clear-eyed, straightforward look at where his head is at. They're very different but both really powerful. Check out the song “Not Broken,” which features Sparhawk and Parker's daughter Hollis on vocals. I think Matt Berninger, the other half of today's conversation, feels as strongly about Low and Alan's music as I do: He's been listening since before his band, The National, had even come together. Perhaps you're aware of their history, but just in case: The National has been making incredible records since 2001, finding pretty huge success with cathartic, arena-sized songs that are still always grounded by Berninger's intentional, literate words. Just as with Low, it's impossible for me to pick a favorite record, but today it's Alligator, from 2005. But Berninger, like Sparhawk, has had plenty of side projects over the years, and his second proper solo album is coming out this week as well. It's called Get Sunk, and it feels like a sort of deliberate step away from any semblance of gloom, with Berninger writing about childhood summers and more innocent times. Don't get me wrong, these songs aren't without their emotional perils, but they do feel different enough from his main gig that you'll notice. Oh, and in case I didn't mention it, it's really great. Check out “Bonnet of Pins” from Get Sunk right here. Sparhawk and Berninger don't waste much time with idle chit-chat in this episode. They've both been through the mental-health wringer over the years, and they explore those low-lows with the benefit, thankfully, of some hindsight. Matt has some really insightful things to say about Alan's recent solo records, and they dive into their religious backgrounds with perhaps the funniest, potentially deadliest interview question ever asked on Talkhouse: “What are your thoughts on God and religion? Go.” Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Alan Sparhawk and Matt Berninger for chatting. A new research study from UK fintech startup Nuke From Orbit, highlights a sharp rise in smartphone theft across the country and the growing impact on how people use their devices. As thefts soar and public trust in police and tech providers declines, the findings point to a security crisis that is reshaping digital habits for millions of Britons. According to the study, which surveyed 1,000 UK adults (18 years and above), 29% have now experienced phone theft, up from 17% just a year ago. The surge is fuelling widespread anxiety and has started prompting consumers (5% or greater) to scale back their use of mobile banking, email, social media and digital wallets. The findings reveal a nation struggling with digital vulnerability. 67% of consumers say they are most concerned about unauthorised access to their bank cards or accounts, underlining the financial risks of losing a smartphone. Despite this concern, 34% of users still rely on the same or similar PINs for multiple apps and to unlock their devices - a risky behaviour that continues to undermine security efforts. "The findings are deeply worrying," said James O'Sullivan, CEO of Nuke From Orbit. "In the past 18 months, we've seen a perfect storm: thefts are rising, personal security is lacking, and users are stuck in risky habits. It's unacceptable that nearly one in three people have had their phone stolen. The current solutions - and the police response - simply do not match the scale of the problem." Everyday phone habits are also contributing to increased theft risk. Nearly half of respondents (47%) say they use their phones in public several times a day - a figure that rises to 71% among 18-25-year-olds, making them easy targets for opportunistic thieves. This visibility, especially on public transport or in busy urban areas, significantly increases the likelihood of theft. Yet many victims are reluctant to report the crime. The research shows that those who have not experienced phone theft are almost three times more likely to report it than those who have, indicating a breakdown in trust and expectations around police intervention. Public opinion is divided on who should take responsibility for improving smartphone security. While 44% believe phone manufacturers should lead the charge, 30% say the onus is on users themselves. Interestingly, those who have never had their phone stolen are nearly three times more likely to report theft than those who have - suggesting that personal experience often leads to disillusionment. A Call for Urgent Action Nuke From Orbit is calling for stronger, more coordinated action on smartphone safety. The Rising Threat of Smartphone Theft: Consumer Behaviour and Security Challenges report highlights the need for improved consumer education, closer collaboration between tech providers and law enforcement and more integrated security solutions to better protect users and their data. CEO James O'Sullivan has been actively engaging with stakeholders, from meeting with officials at Downing Street to working alongside ethical hackers to identify system vulnerabilities, pushing for faster progress across the sector. "We need to shift how we approach smartphone safety," added O'Sullivan. "With greater awareness and stronger protections, we can reduce the impact of this growing threat and help prevent it altogether." See more stories here.
