Canada is a wonderful country. We are blessed to live in a place where a television personality can make a racist statement regarding racist statements made by another television personality. We think you might enjoy this episode.
On this episode of The National Talky League... why doesn't Alberta have more of a jilted ex-girlfriend/ex-boyfriend/ex-non-binary-asexual-cis-province-friend attitude about all the investment that left Alberta? Also, what would the NDP say and do if the UCP introduced a PST and what would you call a Trevor Tombe podcast if there were a Trevor Tombe podcast?

Dave realizes how much fun it is to write recaps as though they are for TV episodes.
The National Talky League gets into the origins of chess and the etymology of words like sheriff and university. Then the lads get control of themselves and discuss a little politics. Questions we ask include (but are not limited to): What is the city trying to accomplish in reviewing livery by-laws? Are Progressives struggling with the fact that not absolutely everything Jason Kenney is doing is disastrous as they imagined? Which party will hold the balance of power in our federal government should voters return a minority gov't this Fall? Ready, Set, Joust!

It's week 9 of the National Talky League. The questions we ponder this week include: Are Calgary's new street cleaning signs designed to help the city raise revenue? Could the UCP float a PST as early as Y2Q1? (Sooner than later?) Can the Liberals rely on Canadians to forget about their scandals and vote for Trudeau in the Fall.
The election is in the rearview now. Roger and Dave discuss the rising tide of conservatism in Canada and the lessons progressives must learn if they want to take back the province. Dave spent some time running numbers and different outcomes for the election and the insights are remarkable... or not, depending on how legit you thought the NDP government was in the first place.

Canada and Saudi Arabia are in a bit of a row. Canada official took the moral high ground and called on Saudi Arabia to release two political activists. Saudi Arabia took the international diplomacy version of "their business elsewhere." In this episode of the National Talky League, Dave and Roger discuss what this means for our country and our government. Is this a warning that Canada should stay in its lane and know its place? You decide. (Also... Roger points out a small nuisance.)
A group of about 400 artists in Calgary signed an open letter to have Jordan Peterson's recent talk canceled because of his "toxic, and often violent, rhetoric" and because his "quasi-academic ideas are misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, and racist." In this episode, Roger challenges this notion with a simple question; "So what?" Does free speech include hate speech, regardless of who deems the speech hateful? Dave points out that some people who oppose Jordan Peterson are less likely to have actually heard Peterson himself and more likely to have heard somebody recount what Peterson said and why it should offend them. Please share your thoughts on this episode in the comments on the National Talky League page and in the Beleaguered Talkies Facebook Group.

The "Kokanee Grope" story isn't going away. Trudeau has effectively created a scenario where he is allowed to be held to a different standard than other Members of Parliament. This episode explores hypocrisy and whether we should be more willing to accept past transgressions in leaders. (Maybe there should be something about showing contrition or remorse tossed in there.) Here's something else to think about... should we treat political heroes as more "disposable" than we do? We seem to put a lot of stock in one and when they inevitably fail, we're without a backup plan.
This week on the National Talky League, we look again at Equalization payments, and their effect/use in politics today. We look at the history of the payments, and talk about other options the Federal Govt might choose instead.
Welcome to the National Talky League! Today's episode focuses on the excuses we tell ourselves when our side doesn't win. Roger and Dave dive deep in to the coping strategy that seems to be growing in popularity online, and why it's akin to blaming the teacher for a bad grade. We discuss the reasoning behind voting and why it's crazy to think that you know why people vote the way they do.
Roger and Dave riff on the notion that Trump's election wasn't a one-off. It's a trend of disaffected people finding their voice and having their day at the ballot box. But are they finding their voice? Or are they happily and eagerly being told to what to think? The left tells us that feelings are what matters and feelings should be a priority in society. The right showing that the same might be true in elections and government.
