Today I offer you the story of the time I met someone important to me. Did I will them into my life? Or was our destiny written into the ones and zeros of tumblr dot com…I don't fucking know. Feat. Julian.
For this epi of NEW REC I'm joined by my good Judy Jordan for a chat on talk drag & queer nightlife. Action in defense of trans lives now is an essential part of all movements for justice. There are over 400 bills pending in state legislatures across the United States that would ban health care for trans minors, ban trans women and girls from sports, ban trans people from restrooms, and ban schools and school staff from educating about history. View the ACLU's Map tracking these bills Donation Links Below!! ☻ Black Trans Femmes in the Arts☻ Black Transcendance☻ Comfrey Films

I'm so excited for the season 2 premiere to be tenderly ushered in alongside the season of romance. I am one lovesick fool & so i thought i'd i invite a kindred spirit onto the show to discuss matters of the heart and we usually do. Nat Torres is a tv and film writer, with their most recent credits including Our Flag Means Death on HBO!! In this episode, we discuss something i've wanted to since i re-entered the hellscape of dating apps—the elusive dating app voice prompt. Listen to part 1 to hear Nat and I unpack this sometimes sexy (mostly scary) form of voice memo.
I am running into a new year! And kissing this one goodbye with one last parting gift :) all love. This episode features the lovely Tara Raani!
You know how people like to stretch their birthday to a birth-week, or birth-month? Well this... is my birth-life. Birth-life is a mindset. I've had a Happy Birthday sign hanging in my living room for a full year now. Happy Birthday to New Recording. New Recording started first and foremost as a bridge to something that I felt like I lost capacity for: connecting to other people with depth. It's been a whole year of connecting with not only my podcast guests but with the cherished people who reach out to let me know my work or stories have moved them in some way. Thank you for keeping me afloat. AND THANK you to everyone who sent me a voice memo for my birthday! I truly love each of you. Episode Guests Katja Jinn
One fateful day, Katja Vujic walked into Essex Market and her life changed forever! Have a listen to discover the twisted world of celebrity, clandestine recording, and all the shades of meeting your idols. Check out Katja's work here, and give our collaborative playlist a listen here.
Have you guys seen high fidelity? Maybe the Zoe Kravitz remake has graced your screen in the past few years. I loved the 2000 rom com it's based on which is about an angsty man with a “poor understanding of women” who recounts his most painful breakups seeking to find a reason for his failed romances. Guys…shit has just not been working out for me romantically, I have been doing my fair share of exing and being exed…so…it's time to do a little user research. I interviewed by first boyfriend desperately seeking a little wisdom around what's working and not working and if all the people ive dated in my life should maybe start a support group.
We're friends right? So…would you mind if I asked you something slightly personal? Have you ever felt like the world is leaving you behind? That's one of the questions being asked by BROKENWORZ: an experimental sound / audio installation by Taisuke Yamada. For this episode, I had a chat with the artist alongside the show's curator, Jun Mabuchi, to muse on the way modern life bends toward connection & disconnection. Brokenworz is currently up at mhPROJECT space, and you can see it until September 30th, when it will culminate in a final performance with Nava Dunkelman, percussionist.
Who among us hasn't had a roommate ISSUE? Indigo and I discuss!
This episode features one of my favorite Leos of all time, Taylor Burgess! Happy belated TB. Taylor is a classical jazz, opera, and contemporary singer. We grew up together so ofc, I needed her to come bless me on the show. It gets a lil meta this episode, as we take a trip down memory lane (2017) to listen to a voice memo we recorded during our first international trip together, fast forward 5 years later, Taylor is living on a completely different continent!! Taylor, this one goes out to you, shining bright in so many peoples lives, to many more! Happy birthday
Today we're pulling an episode from the archives—one I recorded over a year ago now with my BFF and roommate Katja Vujic! Katja is a social editor at the cut, freelance writer, and BREAD enthusiast (according to her Twitter bio). I am blessed to know and love her. It's funny that we made an episode about what it feels like to leave home because Katja is someone with whom I have built a home with over the past year. Listen to our playlist here. Thank you to SOW for supporting NEW RECORDING.
