Hadrat Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Al Aas (ra) Session 28 Words of Wisdom It is written in the Torah that whoever digs an evil hole for his companion will then ultimately fall into it himself (Abu Nu'aym). Whoever harms others then Allah SWT will harm him. Whoever makes things difficult for others then Allah SWT will make things difficult for him (Ahmad). Guard your tongue as you would guard your documents (Abu Nu'aym Hillya). Affliction results from loose talk (Daylamee). Glad tidings - Tooba to the one who holds his tongue from saying more but does not restrict his hand from giving more (Baihaqi). Ma'n ibn Adee (ra) said after the departure of The Messenger ﷺ... Join David Herrera, chair of the European Workshop Committee, Mariano Sanz, co-chair of the Perio Workshop 2023, and ADEE past president, Pål Barkvoll, as they delve into the key outcomes of Perio Workshop 2023. The workshop brought together 70 leading international experts from 22 countries, and the purpose of the gathering was to discuss and establish a new consensus on undergraduate, specialist training, and continuing education in periodontology. In this episode, our guests discuss with Bruno de Carvalho the changes in the discipline (such as those brought about by the 2018 classification of periodontal and peri implant diseases, or the publication of different clinical practice guidelines developed by the EFP) and advances in educational methods and technologies (such as the development of new tools accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic) that made it necessary to update the previous workshop from 2009. The consensus report of the second European consensus workshop on education in periodontology has just been published in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology.
The growing understanding of electricity over the past 200 years has dramatically changed our understanding of the universe, including, you might say, the universe inside our bodies. I had the pleasure of speaking on our podcast, AMSEcast, with Sally Adee, author of We Are Electric: Inside the 200 Year Hunt for Our Body's Bioelectric Code, and What the Future Holds. In this fascinating book, Sally explores the ways our bioelectrical makeup is central to our lives. Still, our understanding of the electricity in our bodies, and how the nervous system works, are relatively recent discoveries.
On this episode Sally Adee, a science and technology journalist based in London joins us. Sally has written for publications like the Economist, the New York Times and BBC Future, and was the technology, features and news editor at New Scientist. Today we're going to talk with her about her wonderful book, We Are Electric The New Science of Our Bodies, Bioelectric Code and What the Future Holds.

Our subject in this episode is the idea that the body uses electricity in more ways than are presently fully understood. We consider ways in which electricity, applied with care, might at some point in the future help to improve the performance of the brain, to heal wounds, to stimulate the regeneration of limbs or organs, to turn the tide against cancer, and maybe even to reverse aspects of aging. To guide us through these possibilities, who better than the science and technology journalist Sally Adee? She is the author of the book “We Are Electric: Inside the 200-Year Hunt for Our Body's Bioelectric Code, and What the Future Holds”. That book gave David so many insights on his first reading, that he went back to it a few months later and read it all the way through again.Sally was a technology features and news editor at the New Scientist from 2010 to 2017, and her research into bioelectricity was featured in Yuval Noah Harari's book “Homo Deus”.Selected follow-ups:Sally Adee's websiteThe book "We are Electric"Article: "An ALS patient set a record for communicating via a brain implant: 62 words per minute"tDCS (Transcranial direct-current stimulation)The conference "Anticipating 2025" (held in 2014)Article: "Brain implants help people to recover after severe head injury"Article on enhancing memory in older peopleBioelectricity cancer researcher Mustafa DjamgozArticle on Tumour Treating FieldsArticle on "Motile Living Biobots"Music: Spike Protein, by Koi Discovery, available under CC0 1.0 Public Domain Declaration
Welcome back! Today, we have science journalist Sally Adee with us to discuss her new book titled 'We Are Electric: Inside the 200-Year Hunt for our Body's Bioelectric Code, And What the Future Holds.' This book and our conversation delve into a fascinating area of biology now known as the electrome. Decrypting this bioelectric code, as it has been termed, holds incredible promise for understanding ourselves and developing new treatments and interventions, ranging from spinal cord injuries to reversing aging.
Sally Adee is a freelance science writer in London. After a decade editing and writing science news and features for science and engineering magazines, she left magazine journalism to write a book on the history and future of biological electricity. You are in for a sweet and sticky treat today! Joining me are Adee Honey Farms' second and third generation family members, Marla Hoyer, and Sarah Hauge. We cover everything from the history of Adee Honey, way back to even before Richard and his brother Stanley purchased the South Dakota honey operation of about 1,000 honeybee colonies in 1957, to how they've grown the business to 100,000 colonies of bees that journey thousands of miles between producing honey in several states, and pollinating almonds in California and apple orchards in Washington. As with any agricultural industry, growth comes with challenges and honey production is not immune. Sarah shares about the company's rebrand and adding new merch like hats, hoodies, stickers and T-shirts. We cover a few health benefits and the healing power of honey, tips to enhancing your baking, and how to be a smart consumer when it comes to fraudulent honey. Plus, after many years of mostly selling to the wholesale market, they let us in on a few development ideas as the company expands their retail line to meet the needs and wants of consumers. We wrap up the episode with a mocktail recipe using a simple syrup made of honey, the sought-after recipe for honey of a fudge sauce, and Marla is so kind to share her grandma Mae Adee's Honey Apple Crisp recipe. This episode is jam-packed with so much more good stuff like Bruce Honey Days, how the color of your honey affects the flavor of the dish you are making, and tips for substituting honey for sugar, maple syrup and corn syrups. And you'll learn why you should add honey to your first aid kit, and why you want to turn honey bottles upside down and watch how the bubble flows through the honey. Sally Adee's new book, We Are Electric: The New Science of Our Body's Electrome, exams the centuries-long quest to understand how the body uses electricity. Beyond just how neurons send electrical signals, new research is showing how ancient biological mechanisms use electricity to heal our bodies and dictate how cells behave. Adee, a former editor at IEEE Spectrum, talks with host Stephen Cass about this research and how it may even open the door to regenerative technologies that are currently science fiction.
In this episode, Tim talks with scientific journalist and author Sally Adee about her new book; We Are Electric. Every cell in our body – bones, skin, muscle, nerves – has a tiny voltage, like a battery. This bioelectricity enables our brains to send messages, but can also help us heal from injury and develop in the womb. In her new book, We Are Electric, science journalist Sally Adee explores our body's electrome, and reveals the ways it could help us treat cancer, regenerate cells, and even halt ageing. >> Before we dive into this episode, we wanted to let you know we're opening registration for our next Coach Certification course on January 12th, 2022. If you are someone whose life has been changed through nutrition and you're ready to give back, this program could be for you. To learn more, go to www.workingagainstgravity.com/coach-certification and join our presale list today! In today's episode, host Michael Cazayoux interviews Ivette Carcas, the Training Director for Working Against Gravity. Ivette joined WAG as a client in 2014 and began working with Adee as her coach (Adee is still her coach to this day!). Before that, Ivette trained as a ballet dancer for 27 years (she's since switched to flamenco). She worked as an architect and has her first Master's degree in architecture. She's also a competitive Olympic weightlifter. For years, Ivette sought a way to work in the nutrition world. So, when Adee offered her a job with WAG, Ivette jumped at the chance. Since then, Ivette has become WAG's top coach. She's in charge of the creation and operation of our WAG Coach Certification. In this interview, Michael and Ivette talk about the WAG Certification, including how it offers students something that no other nutrition certification offers: digital mentorship. At the same time, if you can learn how to be productive while working from home, it provides massive flexibility in time and location—you can work from anywhere with WiFi! Today's special episode does exactly what it says on the tin - plus a little more. AdvantageGo organised a prestigious panel of three prominent US-focused P&C CEOs and I got to work with them on dissecting the state of the market. Marc Adee, CEO of Crum & Forster, Andrew Robinson CEO of Skyward Specialty and Greg Hendrick the CEO of Vantage Group were all on excellent form as we examined rate adequacy, the prospect for loss trends and whether underwriters might keep ahead of them, resurgent economic and social inflation, the re-rating of cyber insurance and the ever-developing view of the industry Covid loss. We also rounded up the mid-year renewals, talked about the largely benign impact of reinsurance on the current market, and took a view on the sky-high valuations of public Insurtech stocks and the future of innovation and the industry's developing relationship with technology. Many thanks again to AdvantageGo for organising this one – all I had to do was show up and ask the questions! Enjoy the podcast. NOTES Greg Hendrick couldn't remember who said the famous quote about the market being able to stay irrational longer that you can stay solvent. This one is from the British economist John Maynard Keynes. LINKS We thank our naming sponsor AdvantageGo - enabling an enterprise view of exposure: https://www.advantagego.com/
