Is it possible to be "fully recovered" and still have anxious thoughts, or are we all just making it up as we go?Welcome to the very first episode of Recovered & Rambling! This is a new monthly feature where I sit down with my right-hand person and friend, Brittany, for a completely unscripted, unfiltered conversation. Think of it as a "vibe check" on life, recovery, and the random stuff that keeps us laughing. In this episode, we're bridging the gap between my decade of recovery and Brittany's more recent journey. We dive into the awkwardness of therapy "first dates," the reality of having no control as a mom, and why we're both currently obsessed with the psychological warfare on The Traitors.HERE'S WHAT TO SAY TO YOUR BRAIN WHEN YOU'RE SPIRALING: https://ahealthypush.myflodesk.com/calmpanicTAKE MY FREE QUIZ AND FIND OUT WHAT'S CAUSING YOU TO STAY STUCK: https://www.ahealthypush.com/blocking-quizA HEALTHY PUSH INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/ahealthypush/GET THIS EPISODE'S SHOW NOTES: https://www.ahealthypush.com/post/rambling1
Ever feel like your words just... keep going? Like you started making a point, but then it multiplied into three half-finished thoughts, and now you're not even sure what you were trying to say? You're not alone. Upper-intermediate English learners often struggle with rambling—not because their English is bad, but because they're trying to sound too perfect, fill every silence, and prove they belong in the conversation. In this episode, we break down exactly why rambling happens (it's not a vocabulary problem—it's a confidence problem), and we give you 5 practical, field-tested strategies to speak more clearly and confidently:Kill the Safety Net — Stop adding "you know what I mean?" and trust that your point landedThe Power Pause — Use silence as punctuation, not something to fearOne Point, One Breath — Make one clear point per turn instead of stacking multiple thoughtsThe Exit Ramp — Give yourself permission to stop talking, even mid-thoughtFirst Answer Confidence — Trust your first instinct without rephrasing it three different waysEach strategy includes real-world examples from meetings, presentations, casual conversations, and interviews—so you can see exactly how to apply them starting today. If you've ever walked away from a conversation thinking, "Why did I say so much?"—this episode is for you. After British police arrested the former Prince Andrew in connection with revelations involving Jeffrey Epstein, a reporter asked Donald Trump directly if anyone will face accountability in the United States. Trump rambled and rambled, insisting he had been “totally exonerated.” That's not true, but regardless, Trump could not explain why accountability is happening in other countries, but not in ours. He also had nothing whatsoever to say about whether his Justice Department will ever seek accountability for any elites implicated in the scandal. Meanwhile, MAGA figures are raging over the latest Epstein-file revelations and demanding exactly the accountability that is not forthcoming from DOJ. We talked to Nicole Hemmer, author of good books about the conservative movement and about the right wing media. She explains why Trump has not been exonerated, how the latest in this scandal is causing MAGA to crack up, what all this reveals about supposed Trump-MAGA hatred of “elites,” and what the prospects are for genuine accountability. Mighty Blue On The Appalachian Trail: The Ultimate Mid-Life Crisis
Today, we meet an AT thru-hiker from the Class of 2015 who went on to buy and run a hostel near the Nantahala Outdoor Center. Erin Tuveson, or Bookie, became so enamored of the trail that she wanted to be around the community she met out there. Erin now owns and runs the Rambling Roots Hostel, bringing her AT knowledge to bear as she puts together the kind of place she loved when she was hiking. You can learn more about Erin and her hostel at her website Rambling Roots Hostel. Additionally, you can keep up with Erin and the hostel on social media at: Rambling Roots Hostel andRambling Roots Hostel (@ramblingrootshostel) • Instagram profile. Also, Erin's blog about traveling with her dog is at How My Dog Survived a Thru-Hike With Me: Keeping Them Healthy - The Trek . Also on the show today is JC Van Etten, who recently published a book following his successful completion of the Continental Divide Trail, which completed his Triple Crown. Check out his book at Hiking the Continental Divide Trail: "Embracing the Brutality" Our Hike the Good Hike team moves on to Shanda Carter, a mother of threew who will be hiking the Colorado Trail later in the year. You cvan follow Shanda on Instagram at Shanda Carter (@shandacarter_) • Instagram profile . In my accountability blog, I've started to acquire some of the smaller items I'll need for my hike, and I also lost Luis, my personal trainer this week. We keep moving forward though, as Jake has taken up the task of getting me in some sort of shape for the trail. I used my hike in 2024 on the South West Coast Path in the UK to help raise money for my absolute favorite charity, Parenting Matters, on whose board I've been privileged to serve for over a decade. You can learn more about the hike and the organization–and donate–by visiting https://parentingmattersfl.org/eventer/hike-with-steve-empowering-parents-one-step-at-a-time/edate/2024-04-15/. I hope you want to support this critical mission. Don't forget.
