A nonprofit they co-founded, Architecture + Advocacy, worked with neighborhood partners on a community celebration and a design-build project.Reily and Willa walk and talk about Sugar Hill's history and legacy of activism, and Kianna shares how a new generation of architecture students is using heritage conservation (even if they don't call it that) to help neighborhoods affected by structural racism and gentrification.See episode page for photos, resources, and transcript.Connect with us on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn!
Pencil Busters, we made it through another week! So let's take some time to reflect on how essential-curricular activities contribute to the "becoming" of young adults. Two weeks ago, we talked with the managers of WSU Hockey's award-winning social media team. Today, we hear from Kianna Hamer and Katherine Bresani, members of the team who produce incredible video and photography to support the hockey team. Together with Giancarlo Bresani, dedicated WSU parent and supporter of the social media team, Kianna and Katherine created two video series to support the hockey players. Their series "Behind the Bench" provides rarely-seen footage of players and coaches preparing for games. Their other series, "Meet the Players" introduces and humanizes the team members to their school and beyond. The projects create unique mementos at a pivotal period of the players' lives, preserving these magical moments of them becoming their adult selves. And it's not just the players who benefit from the creative endeavors! Kianna and Katherine share how they've grown, found their passions, and created enduring connections through their work. They themselves relish in the beauty of becoming, of finding purpose in telling the stories of their team members. BustED Pencils: Fully Leaded Education Talk is part of Civic Media. Kianna Shore. Set in Tokyo in 2015, Tokyo Nexus is a story about identity, class, trauma, and finding connection in a disconnected future. In this episode, Kianna guides Patrick through these first four issues, discusses her "big break" in the comics industry, and talks about working with amazing collaborators like Blade Runner Origin's Mellow Brown and Tokyo Nexus' artist Mariano Taibo. Issues 1-4 of Tokyo Nexus are on sale wherever you buy comic books. In this episode, I addressed a question from a listener, Kianna in Pennsylvania, who is in an internship and recently inherited a playroom. She's working with three boys whose parents are going through a divorce, and one of the boys has been falling asleep during the sessions. I explained how to handle this situation and the importance of meeting the child where they are, emphasizing that we should respect their need for rest if that's what they require. I also shared a policy in my practice not to bill for sessions where therapeutic work couldn't take place due to the child's exhaustion. Providing exceptional customer service and prioritizing the child's well-being above all else is crucial in our practice.
