This is a tale about opening a bottle of wine. No ordinary bottle of wine. In fact an old, rare, delicious Chartreuse. The bottle heavily protected by a very thick, very solid, wax seal. My pet topic of 'Cognitive Connections' usually involves humans. This time I applied my new, shortened name of Observe - Act to the situation. Instead of rushing in, like a "bull-at-the-gate" I took my time and I thought, thought hard, about my problem - and then acted. Thankfully with a successful conclusion. "Pretty obvious" you may well say. Not so, not with me - and maybe, not with you either. Listen to my story.

Do you have a full "to-do" list? Are you always "running"? Do you have too much on each and every day to find time to relax - time for yourself - TFM aka "time for me" in my weekly calendar? Breakfast on-the-run, kids to school, early job meeting, zoom calls and conferences, yoga-classes, exercise classes, dancing classes, shopping, home-chores, kids sport, homework, feeding, bed, finish that report before sleep time - and repeat and repeat. Crazy!!? "There is no other way" you tell me? OK, you got hit by a truck last month (always put it in the past then it cannot have happened to you. Phew!) and you are no longer 'here'. Then what happens to that time-chewing, life-destroying, yet "necessary" list above? What is really important to you? Tough, I know. However you only live once - that we know of - and no one has ever come back and said to me, "Sam, it's fantastic - wait till you get there". Your loved ones need you, here and now - and you need them too. Your job needs you - and you need your job, or your business or your profession. However don't make it a balancing + juggling act. Today's podcast is all about that initial meeting. How you "break the ice" with someone. Whether a total stranger, someone you see or recognise but don't know. The reason Shaquille O'Neal appears in the image for this podcast is because I met and chatted with him using the techniques described in this podcast. I walked into the Nike store in Chicago and he walked in at exactly the same moment. By co-incidence (cognitive connection?) we both happened to walk out through the store at the same time. "No luck finding what you wanted"? I asked. "No, they didn't have it" he answered. [Genuine statement coming up ...] "Man, you sure are a fit looking guy" I said. "I try sir, I try" he said. "Well you obviously succeed" I said and extended my hand towards him, "my name is Sam". With that he shook my hand and said, "Sam, please, let me get this door for you." "No way, you opened the door for me on the way in". I replied. "You Sam are a visitor, my guest, in my Country" he said. We shook hands again, he smiled, told me to be safe and enjoy my time in Chicago and we parted company. A couple of people rushed up to me and said, "Do you know Shaquille"? "I do now" I said and walked off, smiling to myself.

"Know Thyself" Not that easy! We all think we 'know' ourselves. How we react to certain situations. What we like. What we do not like. These things are mainly driven by our Values. Those values dictate what we wear, what we like to eat - and what we never eat. Even how we sit on a bus or train. How we drive a car. All values-driven. The purpose is what pushes us. Our individual, true life purpose. A good question is, "does our purpose motivate us to action that purpose - or - does our motivation force us to follow our purpose"? I believe it is the former - our purpose motivates us. In this segment, I introduce Sam Star. He is an interesting and different person plus a very well-meaning and knowledgable person. Finding Your Purpose #1

We are all a bit different. You know that saying, "No two alike". However, the same Purpose can drive many, many different people. Once you know your "Why", which is your purpose, the "how" of achieving your goals becomes ever so much easier. The path becomes obvious. Start by going back in time - to when you were a youngster. What were you 'naturally' good at and what gave you enjoyment and pleasure and was easy for you to do. What you may have found easy, others found difficult or embarrassing or both. You could never understand why they found it that way. To you, it was all a "piece-of-cake" so to speak. As you grew and grew older, that natural talent wanted to be released so that you could be the real you. Sometimes it happened - and you followed your purpose, which became your passion and many times it remained and probably still remains, deep inside you - wanting, hoping, pleading, to be released and embraced and fostered. Let it happen. Find your purpose, release your purpose, follow your purpose and truly live your life!

Our lungs - shortness of breath, stomach - pains and digestive problems, skin - sweaty or dry. I am not telling you anything you do not already know.
