Send us a textCoach Canter is the owner of South County Youth Performance in Wakefield Rhode Island. Canter's training facility is a successful passion project that allows for young people to train with or without their parents or guardians. Before SC Youth Performance Coach Canter taught weight training and PE as the assistant strength coach at Goose Creek High School in Charleston SC. Canter grew up in Virginia Beach where he was an assistant sport and strength coach at Landstown High School prior to Goose Creek. At Landstown he coached and help develop Percy Harvin, Damon McDaniel, and several other Division 1 Football Players. Percy won 2 National Championships at Florida and was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. Damon McDaniel attended FSU and was a top 5 WR in the country as a high school senior. Canter became the Head Football Coach at Landstown in the spring of 2006. Coach Canter spent a number of years in college football as a player and Coach. He played football collegiately at Virginia Tech for Legendary and Hall of Fame Football Coach Frank Beamer and moved into a strength and conditioning graduate assistant position in January 2004, immediately after graduation. He also worked under Master Strength Coach and Industry Legend Mike Gentry. Assisting with both the Olympic Sports and the Football Team within the weight room environment. Feel a sense of lightness and renewal as the air moves through you to clear out any stagnant energy of anything that does not serve you. DAY FOURTEEN April Mindful Minutes challenge:WATER MEDITATIONCongratulations on ending your second week of this 30-day challenge! Today's episode is a simple guided imagery meditation connecting to the energy of water at the ocean.The quote I introduced was:“The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears, or the sea" - Isak DenisenI kind've think this is true. How about you?BREATHING TIPS FOR THIS MEDITATIONUjjayi pranayama involves breathing through the nose, slightly constricting the back of the throat (the glottis) to create a soft, hissing sound, similar to the sound of the ocean. With the mouth closed inhale through the nostrils then slowly release and exhale through the nostrils. Expand and Release: pay attention to physical expansion in the belly, lungs and ribcages when you inhale and a release & emptying out when you exhale.CHECK-IN: Before and after each practice I will invite you to check in and rate your stress level from 0 - 5.0 = zero worries/stress5 = feeling like you're going to lose it.These episodes are posted at 7am PST. I saw 8:11 (no joke this happens to me) and I set up to record.I recorded a video for you AND it took several takes because the mic was on mute...sheesh I finally finished, just a short check-in, uploaded the video THEN it published UPSIDE DOWN! Welcome to Spiritually Fit Yoga with Amelia Andaleon!DAY EIGHT April Mindful Minutes challenge:EIGHT MINUTES - DIRGA BREATH✅ Congratulations on completing week one of this 30-day mindfulness challenge!Today I'm introducing you to Dirga breathing which is a basic yoga breath work technique or pranayama. Almost six minutes of this episode is an introduction, including any contraindications. If at any time you feel discomfort, gently stop the practice. CHECK-IN: Before and after each practice I will invite you to check in and rate your stress level from 0 - 5.0 = zero worries/stress, 5 = feeling like you're going to lose it.MY STORYWhen I began learning breath work, I had to ease into it. I didn't realize I was breathing so shallow. Oxygenating my lungs & brain initially made me feel dizzy and anxious, which can be typical experiences when first learning deep breathing. As I continued practicing, I increased my lung capacity, I reduced my need for my inhaler (I had asthma), and I increased my overall sense of well-being. ~15 years later my asthma is gone. I also realized my asthma was triggered by stress and anxiety. Once I learned how to breathe & manage stress, my asthma disappeared. Still hard to believe!That's just one profound way how meditation and breath work have made a difference in my life.These episodes are posted at 7am PST.
